MAXINE R. DOCTOR
Maxine R. Doctor, 79, Raytown, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998.
Mrs. Doctor was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Decatur County, Iowa. She was a licensed practical nurse at Research Medical Center for 15 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Raytown Christian Church and the True Kindred Order of the Eastern Star.
Her survivors include a son, S. Craig Doctor, Independence; five brothers, Perry Reynolds, Basehor, Kan., Pete Reynolds, Mission, Kan., Herschel Reynolds, Odum, Ga., Bob Reynolds, Hannibal, Mo., and John Reynolds, Napa, Idaho; four sisters, Juanita Carcuther, LaClede, Mo., Mildred Hanlin, Shelbina, Mo., Geraldine Maylor, Lamoni, Iowa, and Ferne Watson, Clarence, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Brian and Sheri Doctor of Independence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hinton-Gibson Funeral Home, Raytown. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.
JESS DONAHOO
Jess Donahoo, 82, Independence, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at Villa Saint Joseph.
Mr. Donahoo was born March 30, 1916, in Carterville, Mo. He worked for the General Motors Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church and Eastgate Masonic Lodge 630. His wife, Ruby R. Donahoo, died Dec. 21, 1994.
His survivors include a son, Don D. Donahoo, Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Billie J. Reed, Houston; a sister, Edna McBride, Winnemucca, Nev.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice, L.C.
HELEN V. LOWE
Helen Virginia Lowe, 81, Independence, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at the Independence Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Lowe was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Reuter, Mo. She was a member of Jolly Jane`s Extension Club and the Fairmount Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Lowe in 1995, and a daughter, Norma Julian.
Her survivors include a daughter, Sharon Terry, Independence; five grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church.
HARRY R. MAYFIELD
Harry R. Mayfield, 89, Kansas City, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Mayfield was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Little York, Ill. He was an auto body mechanic for Sight Chevrolet for 36 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge 630. His wife, Dorothea L. Mayfield, died in 1991.
His survivors include a sister, Vita Irene Beeman; a sister-in-law, Martha Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Son Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City.
LAWRENCE E. MOSBY
Lawrence Eldon Mosby, 62, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Mosby was born March 12, 1936, in Smithville, Mo., and lived in Independence for 33 years before moving to Blue Springs. He was a foreman and a Methodist by faith.
His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Mosby, Blue Springs; a half sister, Kay Koontz, Medina, Ohio; a brother, Robert Mosby, Lawson, Mo.; a sister, Freta Petitt, Smithville; two godsons; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.
RAYMOND F. RINER
Ramond Floyd Riner, 78, Buckner, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Riner was born May 7, 1919, in Napoleon, Mo., had lived in Missouri since 1919, in Jackson County since 1960, and in Buckner less than five years. He was a farmer in Lafayette County until 1960, and served as a foreman for Jackson County Public Works for 25 years. He had been a member of the Antique Tractor Club since 1986, and was of the Baptist faith.
His survivors include his wife, Helen Riner of the home; four daughters, Donna Roach, Lee`s Summit, Bonnie Brady, Wellington, Mo., Beverly Wilson, Independence, and Yvonna Stapleton, Buckner; six sons, Floyd Riner, Lee Riner and Brian Riner, all of Buckner, Charles Riner, Grain Valley, Sam Ellis, Kansas City, and Dan Ellis, Independence; two sisters, Elsie Husted and Charlene Kraemer, both of Buckner; 38 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Children`s Mercy Hospital.
HARRY E. SHEPARD
Harry E. Shepard, 72, Lee`s Summit, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Shepard was born Oct. 4, 1925, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He was a pipefitter for AT&T before he retired, and was a member of the Pipefitters Union. He retired from the Army as a sergeant first class after 21 years of service, and was a member of American Legion Post 499 in Blue Springs.
His survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Robin and Paul Furney, Kansas City, Sharon Game, Kingsville, Mo., and Jean Shepard and Don Mayberry, Olathe, Kan.; three sons, Don Shepard and Tim Shepard, both of Lee`s Summit, and Robert Shepard, Platte City, Mo.; two sisters, Sarah K. Crenshaw, Blue Springs, and Frances Neely, Independence; two brothers, Robert Shepard, Kansas City, and William Shepard, Tampa Bay, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Joshua Furney, Brianna Game, Brandi Shepard, Angie Stadnick, Bridget Shepard and Samantha Smith.
Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the World War II Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.
ERMA M. WATKINS
Erma Maxine Watkins, 77, Harrisonville, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville.
Mrs. Watkins was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Hill City, Kan., and lived in Independence before moving to Harrisonville in 1978. She was a homemaker and earlier was a rural school teacher for Zion, Dodger Point Rural Schools. She also worked for nine years for Montgomery Wards in Kansas City. She was a member of the Coleman Baptist Church, near Peculiar, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merl Watkins on Oct. 10, 1978, and a son, Bobby Dale Watkins on March 26, 1977.
Her survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Milton O. and Marcene Boothe, Independence; a sister and brother-in-law, Velna L. and Paul Mathes, Harrisonville; and many other relatives.
Services were today at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Burial was in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to Gideons International.
MARY C. YEATS
Mary Catherine Yeats, 89, Gladstone, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mrs. Yeats was born Aug. 15, 1908, in Poland, and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a member of St. Charles Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Carl T. Yeats, and two grandsons, Robert and Richard Robertson.
Her survivors include two daughters, Patricia Yeats and Mary Lou Robertson, both of Gladstone; a brother, John Michalik, Shawnee, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Tom Robertson and Cathleen Lake.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, 900 N.E. Shady Lane. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the
McGilley Antioch Chapel, Gladstone, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Endowment Fund at the church.
MUREL G. GOLDSBERRY
Murel Glen Goldsberry, 91, Independence, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Goldsberry was born April 10, 1907, in Downing, Mo., and had lived in Danville, Ill., before moving to this area 29 years ago. He owned Goldie`s Potato Chip Factory and the Diamond Horseshoe Lounge in Danville for many years. He was a toll booth collector for the Broadway Bridge in Kansas City for 25 years, and worked for Pinkerton Security and the Kansas City Water Department, retiring in 1976. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Sterling Acres Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Goldsberry.
His survivors include his companion and caregiver, Thelma Sharp of the home; a half brother; and a stepsister.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount St. Mary`s cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice.
LUCILLE HACKNEY
Lucille Hackney, 83, Independence, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Hackney was born June 6, 1915, in Aberdeen, Miss. She was a clerk for the U.S. government for many years, and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Her survivors include three daughters, Fairby Brooks of the home; and Cecelia Rhodes and Johnnie Little, both of St. Louis; one son, Maurice Hall, East St. Louis, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, cremation will follow.
LILLIAN E. POWELL
Memorial services for Lillian Elizabeth Powell, 76, of Independence, who died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Rosewood Health Center Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (Keith Worthington Chapter) or the Kansas City Hospice Chapter.
HAZEL I. SHORT
Hazel Ilene Summers Chase Short, 79, Wellington, Mo., died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Short was born June 26, 1919, in Bloomfield, Iowa, and had lived in Wellington most of her life. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellington, American Association of Retired Persons and T.O.P.S. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Louis Chase and Edwin T. Short, and one daughter, Ruth Paris.
Her survivors include three sons, Louis S. Chase, Odessa, Jerry Chase, Independence, and Michael Chase, Oak Grove; two daughters, Retha M. Beebe, Lawrence, Kan., and Darlene Blevins, Wellington; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Wellington City cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
WINIFRED HOBBS
Winifred Hobbs, 81, Independence, died on Thursday, July 22, 1999 at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Hobbs was born Aug. 5, 1917, in Redfield, Kan. She was a salesperson at the Jones Store for 15 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church and Soul's Harbour Assembly of God. She was a volunteer at The Fountains at Greenbriar retirement community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Hobbs.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth Hobbs, Houston, Texas, and William R. Hobbs, Raymore; daughters, Elizabeth Anderson, Independence, and Joan Austin, Broomfield, Co.; sister, Mildred Keeney, Ft. Scott, Kan.; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, at Hinton-Gibson Funeral Home in Raytown. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Brooking cemetery.

NORMA C. BUENEMANN
Norma C. Buenemann, 71, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Beunemann was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Kansas City, and she had lived in Omaha, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, and Broken Arrow, Okla., before moving to Blue Springs 13 years ago. She was a 1943 graduate of William Chrisman High School. She had been a hospital volunteer.
Her survivors include her husband, Hugh Buenemann of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda and Richard Stewart, Las Vegas, Nev., and Janet Long; and grandchildren, Marty and Cara.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Association.
JAMES M. BARNETT
James M. "Red" Barnett, 86, of Independence died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999.
Mr. Barnett was born May 18, 1913, in Green Ridge, Mo. He was a partner in Barnett and Horn Motors from 1960 until his retirement in 1979.
His survivors include his wife, Wilma Alene Barnett, of the home; two sons, Bobby J. Barnett and Danny R. Barnett, both of Edwardsville, Kan., and seven grandchildren, Shirley Long, Sandy Barnes and Stanley Crumbaugh, all three of Independence, Julie Davis and Jeff Barnett, both of Blue Springs, Katherine Stadter of Clinton, Mo., Janet Frye of Columbia, Mo.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday and services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at George C. Carsons and Sons Independence Chapel, with burial in Floral Hills cemetery.
