ERSKINE A. DAVIS
Erskine A. "Tex" Davis, 79, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Davis was born March 7, 1918, in Runnells County, Texas. He retired as a regional operating manager for Montgomery Wards, Houston. He previously had worked for Western Auto and was manager for Community Discount in Kansas City. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bellaire, Texas, and was a past president of Animal Owners Association of Independence and the Missouri Rebel Riders Saddle Club. He was also a member of The Carriage & Driving Society of Greater Kansas City.
His survivors include his wife, Iris H. Davis of the home; four daughters, Queenell Davis, Independence, Neysa Kurle, Lee`s Summit, and Tana Cosentino and Ceryse Poland, both of Blue Springs; a son, Rance H. Davis, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Steve R. Davis, Independence; a sister, Thais Phelps, McAllen, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Longview Funeral Home. Burial will be in Longview Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice Care of St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
JILL E. DOSTAL
Jill Elaine Dostal, 39, Higginsville, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Dostal was born Dec. 4, 1957, in Kansas City. She was a waitress at Truck Stops of America in Concordia, Mo., and a member of Unity Village.
Her survivors include her husband, David Dostal of the home; two sons, Colby Wochner and Joseph Wochner, a daughter, Taylor Wochner, a stepdaughter, Alie Dostal, and her mother, Suzanne Moorhead, all of Blue Springs; three brothers, Fred Mountjoy, South Kansas City, and Stephen Mountjoy and Gary Mountjoy, both of Blue Springs; and two sisters, Jan Wright, Blue Springs, and Lisa Gilbride, Shawnee, Kan.
Services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
CLOYD E. JENKINS
Cloyd E. Jenkins, 88, Grain Valley, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Jenkins was born Jan. 14, 1909, in Byrnville, Ind., and had lived in Grain Valley for 46 years. He was a retired from the General Motors Leeds Plant. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Odd Fellows of Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Josphine Jenkins of the home; three daughters, Birdie Curtis and Maureen McClarnon, both of Independence, and Claudette Beck, Gloversville, N.Y.; two sons, Rocky Jenkins, Apple Valley, Minn., and Mark Jenkins, Burleson, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mound Grove cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center Hospice.
IRENE S. BRACKENBURY
Irene S. Brackenbury, 85, Blue Springs, died Friday, June 20, 1997 at the Blue River Care Center.
Mrs. Brackenbury was born May 2, 1912 in Knowles, Okla. She lived in this area since 1913 and worked as an assembler at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for six years before leaving in 1972. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon A. Brackenbury Sr., in 1984.
Her survivors include two sons, Vernon A. Brackenbury Jr., Blue Springs and Robert K. Brackenbury, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Mildred Clow, Blue Springs; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
GAIL L. CHAPPELOW
Gail Lynn Chappelow, 37, Buckner, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Chappelow was born Feb. 6, 1960, in Albuquerque, N.M. He lived in this area her entire life and was a homemaker. She was a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 82 and was an active member of the Buckner Restoration Branch Congregation.
She is survived by her husband Keith, of the home; two sons, Michael and Brent, both of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth, of the home; her mother, Ruth Van Fleet, Independence; a brother, David Van Fleet, Buckner; a grandmother, Ruby Hanna, Royal Oak, Mich.; two nieces and a nephew.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
QUENTIN "RED" GARD
Quentin "Red" Gard, 75, Independence, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Gard was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident.
He was a cement mason and a member of Cement Masons Local 518, E.O.E. #385 and V.F.W. Post 9979. He was a World War II Army veteran.
His survivors include a daughter, Beverly Arthur, Independence; two sisters, Norma Nave, Independence and Thelma Sullivan, Schapoose, Ore.; two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons, Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
THERESA A. KARNER
Theresa Anna Karner, 87, Blue Springs, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. Mrs. Karner was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Kansas City. She graduated from Loretta Academy in Kansas City. She had been employed by the Jones Store for 10 years and Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 10 years.
Her survivors include her husband, Michael L. Karner of the home; three daughters, Margaret Shaw, Blue Springs, Theresa Liles, Odessa, and Geraldine Smith, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; a sister, Leo Anita Peake, St. Louis; two brothers, Charles Peake and James Peake, both of Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
No services. Arrangements under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests memorial contributions to Children`s Mercy Hospital.
NANCY MOODY
Nancy Jane Dunton Moody, 69, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Independence Health Care Center.
Mrs. Moody was born May 7, 1928 in St. Augustine, Fla., and was an Independence resident for the last seven years. She wasa teacher and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church where she served as director of church school and Sunday schoolteacher. She was a past member of the National Education Association.
Survivors include her husband, Chesley B. Moody, of the home; a daughter, Ada Louise Bauman, Independence; a sister, Gertrude Derganz, Maqucketa, Iowa; a half-sister, Judith Dunton Brown, Iowa; a half-brother, Larrimore F. Dunton, Illinios; two grandchildren and a great grandson.
A memorial service is pending. The body has been donated to science.
Contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Church Building fund or the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.
RUTH ROBISON
Ruth Robison, 66, Blue Springs, died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at St. Luke`s Medical Center, Kansas City.
Mrs. Robison was born June 5, 1931, in Booker, Texas. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Women of the Moose and enjoyed fishing and working puzzles.
Her survivors include two sons, Larry Robison, Kansas City, and Bob Robison, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister, Mary Newberry, Independence; a brother, Harold Hughes, Raytown; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Thursday at Old Boston cemetery, Oldfield, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of Ayre-Goodwin-Lee.
EVA A. ROSE
Eva Almeada Rose, 57, Independence, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at Providence Medical Center.
Mrs. Rose was born April 7, 1940, in Marston, Mo. She moved to the Kansas City area in 1974. She was a member of the Eagles Club and attended the Olive Branch Church in Kansas City.
Her survivors include one daughter, Darlene Smith, Independence; two sons, Lynn Rose, Independence, and Darrell Rose, Kansas City; three sisters, Cora Taylor, California, Jesie Smith, Florida, and Lucille Reno, Cruthersville, Mo.; one brother, Herman Butler, Mountain View, Mo.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Charter Funerals. Friends may call form 5 to 7 p.m. at the chapel.
JOHN R. THOMPSON
John Raymond Thompson, 70, Blue Springs, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 29, 1926, in Sedalia, Mo. He was a field engineer and manager for Burroughs Corp. for more than 40 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church and was a fourth degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the VFW and volunteered at St. Mary`s Hospital.
His survivors include his wife Jeanne Thompson of the home; two sons, Thomas N. Thompson, Lenexa, Kan. and Dennis Thompson, Lakeland, Fla.; two daughters, Cindy Wrehe, Lee`s Summit, Mo. and Connie Watson, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Rosemary Howard, Gaston, Ind. and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
GLEN E. DENSMORE JR.
Glen E. Densmore Jr. of San Jose, Calif., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, in San Jose.
Mr. Densmore was a native of Clinton, Iowa, and had lived in Independence from 1956 until moving to the San Francisco Bay area. He was a senior systems analyst in charge of the MIS group at Stanford Research Institute, where he traveled world wide on various project teams. He retired after 13 years. Earlier he was assistant vice president and manager of the electronic data processing department at City National Bank and Trust Co. in Kansas City.
He was a high priest in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints and presiding elder in several bay area congregations. He was a graduate of the 1936 class of Clinton High School. He was a Navy veteran and served aboard the battleship USS New York. The battleship represented the United States in the parade of ships at the coronation of King George V. As a career Navy officer, he taught military science at Harvard University in 1943.
His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nelda Welch Densmore of the home; one daughter, Judith C. Anshutz, and one son, James C. Densmore, both of San Jose; one sister, Delores Garrett, Lake Isabella, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Internment was in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va.
ROGER L. HEITZMAN
Roger Lynn Heitzman, 44, Independence, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Heitzman was a graduate of Van Horn High School, and received a bachelor`s degree from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, a master`s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity and was an ordained minister of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
His survivors include one son, Jason Ryan Heitzman, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Heitzman, one brother, Robert L. Heitzman, and one sister, Brenda S. Brown, all of Independence.
Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Blue Ridge Boulevard RLDS Church, 3317 Blue Ridge Blvd.
PAUL E. LaDUE
Retired Army Col. Paul Elton LaDue, 88, Blue Springs, died Monday, April 21, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor.
Mr. LaDue was born Oct. 15, 1908, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was a 1933 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and later earned a master`s degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and served in the Aleutions and the European theater of operations. He retired from the Army in 1957. Later he was employed by the state of Illinois at the Interlake Steel and Wakefield Co.
His survivors include two sons, Wade LaDue, Blue Springs, and Michael LaDue, Lee`s Summit; two grandchildren, Major Paul LaDue and Virginia Raney; and one great-grandson, Cody Raney.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Park Hill cemetery, Bloomington, Ill. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
LaVENA MARKWELL
LaVena Hays Markwell, 91, Independence, died Monday, April 21, 1997.
Mrs. Markwell was born Aug. 3, 1905, in Braymer, Mo. She was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Brig Markwell.
Her survivors include one son, Steve D. Markwell, Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Myrna Grindinger, Independence; one brother, Kay W. Hays, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight atthe funeral home.
