LARRY V. BLANKENSHIP
Larry Vernon Blankenship, 47, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Blankenship was born June 18, 1950, in Kansas City.
His survivors include a son, Larry Scott Blankenship, Blue Springs; four daughters, Machelle Gleason, Raquel Blankenship and Felicite Spurgeon Blankenship, all of Independence, and Sandy Blankenship, Grandview; his parents, Vernon and Iona Blankenship, Kansas City; two brothers, Melvin Blankenship and Gary Blankenship, both of Kansas City; a sister, Pamela Wright, Shawnee, Kan.; five grandchildren; and his fiance, Gerri Spurgeon of the home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
GLORIA M. BOLIN
Gloria M. Bolin, 47, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Bolin was born Aug. 9, 1950, in Kansas City.
Her survivors include three sons, Mark Bolin, Christopher Bolin and Tyson Hughes, and her parents, Haroldean and Mitzie Lyerla, all of Independence; a brother, Harold Craig Lyerla, Atlanta; a sister, Patricia Thorpe, Gladstone, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Ciera Nicole Bolin.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
JOSEPH H. HERRON
Joseph H. Herron, 80, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Herron was born April 27, 1917, in Russell, Kan., and moved to the Independence area in 1923. He worked for Remington and Dupont at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 32 years, retiring as machine adjustor in 1981. He was a 25-year member of the Jackson County Sheriff Posse. He was a horseman, riding his horse, Robert, on many trails all over Missouri. His survivors include his wife of eight years, Mary Herron of the home; a son, Charles Herron, Knob Noster, Mo.; three stepsons, Bob Kayton, Kansas, Michail Sherrell of the home, and Scottie Sherrell, Laurie, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Carol Kampie, Independence, Linda Bridgman, Batesville, Ark., and Connie Campbell, Melburn, Ark.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
MAXINE E. LUTHER
Maxine Elizabeth Luther, 77, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Luther was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Clinton, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1950. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Washington United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Luther in 1980, and a daughter, Jacqueline, in 1971.
Her survivors include two sons, James C. Luther Jr., Odessa, and Jerry L. Luther, Dallas; two sisters, Genevieve Schroeder, Independence, and Christine Hurt, Harlington, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Independence Hospice.
LILA M. SAYLER
Lila M. Sayler, 75, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Sayler was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Harrison, Idaho, and lived in Idaho, and in Archie and Holden in Missouri before moving to Independence three years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ-Independence.
Her survivors include her husband, LeRoy Sayler, Independence; a stepson, Wayne Sayler, Fordland, Mo.; a brother, RaymondT. Bronson, Independence; and a sister, Ollie Mallory, Trout Creek, Mont.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Orient cemetery in Harrisonville, Mo. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.
SHIRLEY M. CARY
Shirley Mae Cary, 63, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Cary was born Oct. 12, 1934, in Independence where she lived her entire life. She was a cashier for the City of Independence before retiring in 1992.
Her survivors include her husband, Eddie Cary of the home; a son, Richard Cary, Independence; two daughters, Vickie Durbin, Mansfield, Texas, and Cindy Wells, Independence; a brother, Gary Lee Witherspoon, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Mary Frances Reed, Kansas City; her mother, Elizabeth Witherspoon, Independence; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
DOROTHY D. COX
Dorothy D. Cox, 87, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at Independence Manor.
Mrs. Cox was born June 15, 1910, in Ardmore, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a stenographer for Millard Insurance before retiring. She attended the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Unity School of Christianity.
Her survivors include her husband, Cecil Wayne Cox, Independence; two brothers, Robert Corn, Kansas City, and Harold Corn, Excello, Mo.; and one sister, LaVange Mabry, Macon, Mo.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
ALICE V. KUHLMANN
Alice Viola Kuhlmann, 92, Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Kuhlman was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Independence, and was a lifelong resident. She was a clerk for Knoepkers Department Store for 20 years. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Kuhlman in 1992.
Survivors include two stepsons, Larry A. Kuhlman, Woodruff, Wis., and Ronald E. Kuhlman, Independence, three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
ALTA B. TAYLOR
Alta B. Taylor, 78, Sibley, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at the New Haven Nursing Center in Odessa.
Mrs. Taylor was born Feb. 18, 1919, in Watertown, S.D., and moved to the Kansas City area in 1957. She worked as a cook for the Head Start program in Buckner until retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Blue Springs Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Edson M. Taylor, who died in May 1990.
Her survivors include two sons, Ron Taylor, Sibley, and Larry Taylor, Independence; one daughter, Elizabeth Dowell, Liberty, Mo.; one brother, Fred Wadleigh, California; two sisters, Ada Cogdill, Springfield, S.D., and Ida Gusso, Watertown, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Marshall, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. WILLIAM K. "KENNY" TERHUNE
William Kenneth "Kenny" Terhune, 41, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, in Kansas City.
Mr. Terhune was born Sept. 2, 1956, in St. Louis, and grew up in Jamesport, Mo., where he attended public schools. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Brushy Squirrel 4-H Club, Tri-County FFA chapter and The Saddle Club. He was employed by the Drake Design Co., Kansas City.
His survivors include his fiance, Sally A. Daily of the home; his mother, Margaret Terhune, Jamesport; and two sisters, Debra Carpenter, Perry, Iowa, and Kathleen Hein, Gallatin, Mo. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to the family.
JOSEPH A. ALLISON
Joseph A. Allison, 54, Kansas City, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Vencor Hospital. Mr. Allison was born June 30, 1943, in Burbank, Calif., and had lived in Kansas City for 30 years. He was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 124.
His survivors include his wife, Joyce D. Allison of the home; one daughter, Denise L. Crone, Independence;two sons, Eric J. Allison, Blue Springs, and Gary D. Allison, Kansas City; his mother, Virginia Jordan, and one sister, Carol Harrison, both of Alaska; one brother, Tom Allison, Orofino, Idaho; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
ORLETTA I. CHILES
Orletta I. Chiles, 83, Lee`s Summit, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee`s Summit.
Mrs. Chiles was born July 3, 1914, in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in this area since 1937. She was a cafeteria manager for the Independence School District for 30 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the John Knox Village Auxiliary and the Lee`s Summit RLDS congregation. Her husband, Merle E. Chiles, died in 1981.
Her survivors include two sons, Leonard Chiles, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Ronald Chiles, St. Charles, Mo.; one daughter, Shirley Dyer, Raymore, Mo.; three brothers, Frederick Brown, Lee`s Summit, and RaymondBrown and Marion Brown, both of Independence; one sister, Wanda Barwise, Camp Verde, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund or the John Knox Village Foundation.
BARBARA J. CUTLER
Barbara Jean Cutler, 69, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Cutler was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Independence. She was a homemaker and a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood and the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs.
Her survivors include one son, Mark D. Cutler, Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Dona Siragusa, Plano, Texas; three sisters, Ellen Dudley, Lenexa, Kan., Shirley Peters, Independence, and Margaret Fellow, Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Matthew Cutler and Meriedith Cutler.
Services will be noon Friday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.The family suggests contributions to the building fund at the church.
WILLIAM L. ETZENHOUSER
William L. Etzenhouser, 51, Independence, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. William Etzenhouser was born Sept. 17, 1945, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the main post office in Independence and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 14000.
His survivors include one daughter, Julie Brown; his mother, Laura Frances Etzenhouser, Independence; two brothers, Winn Etzenouser, Topeka, and David Etzenhouser, Leawood, Kan.; one sister, Laura Frances Whitten, Mill Valley, Calif.; and one granddaughter, Taylor Brown.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. The family suggests contributions to Veterans of Foreign Wars, 406 W. 34th St., Kansas City, Mo. 64111, attention quartermaster general.
LUCY A. FOGLIANI
Lucy A. Fogliani, 82, Independence, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Fogliani was born Aug. 11, 1914, inKansas City, and had lived in Independence for the past 41 years. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 64 years, John J. Fogliani of the home; one son, Harry J. Fogliani, and one daughter, Deanna M. Fogliani, both of Independence; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday atD.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
