THOMAS K. CROWLEY

Thomas K. Crowley, 59, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center.

Mr. Crowley was born March 2, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo. He was a salesman. He was a 1956 graduate of Webster Groves High School. He was a veteran of the armed services. He was a member of the Country Club of Blue Springs.

His survivors include his wife, Marlene Crowley, Blue Springs; his mother, Thelma Crowley, St. Louis; three sons, John J. Crowley and Morrison T. Crowley, both of Blue Springs, and Thomas K. Crowley, Lee's Summit; a brother, Timothy G. Crowley, St. Louis; a sister, Laura A. Johnson, St. Louis; a grandchild, Kayd T. Crowley, Lee's Summit; a daughter-in-law, and Christy Hackett-Crowley, Lee's Summit.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the sender's choice.

MARGUERITE J. BOVA

Marguerite J. Bova, 90, Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at the Regency Care Center.

Mrs. Bova was born Aug. 24, 1907, in Kansas City and had lived in Independence for 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Her husband, Charles Bova, died in 1981.

She is survived by one sister, Catherine Ray, Independence.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

JEAN E. SMITH-GALBRAITH

Jean E. Smith-Galbraith, 77, Independence, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Galbraith was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Stradford, Ontario, Canada, and lived in Nauvoo, Ill., Independence, Auburn Heights, Mich., West Chester County, N.Y., Manchester, Conn., and at Lake Pomme de Terre, Mo., before returning to Independence in 1996. She was ordained a priest in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Oct. 28, 1990, and served the church in many areas. Because of her husband's career, she was a pastor's wife for many years.

Her survivors include her husband of 58 years, Bernie Galbraith of the home; two sons, Neil Galbraith and Ben Galbraith, both of Independence; five grandchildren, Dean, Kelley, Joe, Jesse and Josh; and two great-grandchildren, T Dillon and Taylor.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Walnut Park RLDS Church. Cremation, with private burial in New Salem cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Outreach International, P.O. Box 210, Independence, Mo. 64051-0210. Arrangements are under the direction of New Salem Funeral Home.

EDWARD K. RAGAN

Edward Kelly Ragan, 78, Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

Mr. Ragan, also known as Kelly or Ed, was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Independence. He was a lifelong member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124 in Kansas City, where a good part of his career was spent as an electrician at Rockhurst College. He was honored for more than 50 years of service to Local 124 and maintained membership until his death. He attended Sugar Creek School, graduated from William Chrisman High School, and attended Kansas City Junior College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

His survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Jeannie Ragan, Lee's Summit, Tom and Mary Ragan, Independence, and Chris and Edwina Ragan, Overland Park; two brothers, Jim Ragan, Fairway, Kan., and Dave Ragan, Kansas City; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church, 130 N.W. Murray Road, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Mid-America Heart Institute, in care of the St. Luke's Foundation, 800 W. 47th St., No. 204, Kansas City, Mo. 64112.

WILLIAM A. ESRY JR.

William Amos Esry Jr., 68, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999.

Mr. Esry was a longtime Independence resident. He was a partner in Esry Insurance Agency and the owner-broker of Esry Real Estate, and a member of the Jackson County Planning Commission. He attended William Chrisman High School and William Jewell College in Liberty. He was a Mason and a member of the York Rite and Ararat Shrine. He was an active leader for many years in Boy Scouts, including Scoutmaster of Troop 216 and Explorer Post 555, and was a Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

His survivors include his wife, Gertrude "Trudy" Brown Esry; two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. "Kip" and Ann, and Jon Spach and Felicia; his mother, Olive L. Esry; one brother, Carroll D. Esry; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah and Stephen.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Ararat Shrine Wings of Mercy or Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children.

BETTY J. HOLT

Betty Jean Holt, 69, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Holt was born in Smithton, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She had been a real estate agent for several real estate companies. She had most recently been employed by Kohls department store in Independence. She was a member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where she had served on the Building Committee for the past six years. She is a former member of Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. Her husband, William Donald Holt, died in 1983.

Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Judy Holt, Oklahoma, and Brian and Terri Holt, Blue Springs; two daughters and one son-in-law, Bobbie Russell, and Bernadette and Mike McGuire, all of Independence; two sisters, Mary Overton, Independence, and Annalee Beem, Raytown; and six grandchildren, Ginny, Johnny, Betty Marie, Robert, Ralph and William.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Matthew United Methodist Church Youth Fund, 2415 R.D. Mize Road, Independence, Mo. 64057. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

Ralph Phipps Jr.

Ralph Phipps Jr., 61, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Phipps was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Bingham, Utah, and moved with his family to the Galt, Mo., community. He graduated from Galt High School in 1957. He married Patsy Ishmael on June 21, 1959, and they had lived most of the married life in the Independence area. He was a machine shop manager at the Agco Co., where he had been employed for 38 years.

His survivors include his wife, Patsy Phipps of Independence; a son, Scott Phipps, Odessa; two daughters, Sonja Artchuleta and Kimberly Hardie, both of Payette, Idaho; a brother, Larry Phipps, Grant City, Mo.; two sisters, Clara May Roach and Carol Ingraham, both of West Jordan, Utah; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Grove cemetery, north of Osgood, Mo. There is no scheduled visitation at the Payne Funeral Home in Galt.

MARTHA E. SCHULER

Martha E. Schuler, 91, Blue Springs, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Park Lane Medical Center.

Mrs. Schuler was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Camden, Mo. She was formerly a bookkeeper, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin A. Schuler in 1970.

Her survivors include one daughter, Arliss L. Henderson, Blue Springs; one son, Bernie H. Jenkins, Bolivar, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eldon (Mo.) cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

ELLA F. SCHWAB

Ella F. Schwab, 91, Kansas City, formerly of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at the Truman Medical Center East Care Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Schwab was born in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Independence 329 Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceant 150 and the Unity Village Chapel, Lee`s Summit. She was a past member of the Ararat Shrine Needleguild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis H. Schwab Sr. in 1957, and a son, Lewis H. Schwab Jr. in 1987.

Her survivors include a daughter, Betty J. Foster, Independence; a brother, Carl Maness, Fairmount, Mo.; five grandchildren, Stephen R. Foster, Stuart G. Foster, Stanley D. "Dino" Foster, Dr. Gary G. Schwab and Gail Whitehead; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Leukemia Society of America.

EMMA M. BARKER

Emma M. Barker, 85, Odessa, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Barker was born April 27, 1913, south of Lexington, Mo., and had been an Odessa area resident her entire life, living in the Greenton Community and other areas of Western Lafayette County. She had worked at the Lake City Ammunition Plant from 1965 to 1969; Higginsville Garment Factory from 1960 to 1965; and the Odessa Shoe Factory from 1955 to 1960. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Odessa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Barker in March 1985.

Her survivors include a brother, Waller N. "Buck" Small; two sisters, Margaret P. Kroeck and Violet J. Payne, all of Odessa; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa cemetery Association.

LUCILLE COX

Lucille Cox, 88, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 26, 1901, in Kansas City, and had lived in the Kansas City area for 80 years and in Blue Springs for the past 5 years. She had worked for Chase Bag for 46 years. She was active in the City Union Mission, Salvation Army and St. John LaLande Golden agers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cox on May 31, 1962.

Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Rick, Blue Springs; five grandsons, Robert Rick, Frank Rick and Mark Rick, all of Blue Springs, and Galen Rick; a granddaughter, Kathleen Key, Blue Springs; eight great-grandchildren, Joey Rick, Paul Rick, Nicklos Rick, Eric Rick, Tommy Rick, Billy Key, Angel Key and Erin Rick; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kailey Menterr.

Services were Monday at the C.H. Blackman & Son Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial was in Mount Washington cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice.

FLOYD E. DENHAM JR.

Floyd E. Denham Jr., 78, Independence, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the St. Joseph Health Center.

Mr. Denham was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Independence. He was a carpenter all his life, and did missionary work throughout Mexico.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty L. Denham of the home; five daughters, Barbara Denham, Lawrence, Kan., Sharon Decker, Blue Springs, and Carolene Guzman, Nancy Espinosa and Angelita Sprague, all of Independence; five sons, Floyd E. Denham III, Joseph D. Denham and John I.N. Denham, all of Independence, Nathan E. Denham, Grain Valley, and Jacob R. Denham, Buckner; five sisters, Marjorie Katamura, Angela Dooley, Lois Cerda and Adelia German, all of Independence, and Rosalee Monceda, Texas; two brothers, Bradley Denham, Arizona, and Ollie Denham, Independence; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the family.

BERNICE I. MORTON

Bernice I. Morton, 84, Troutdale, Ore., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, in Troutdale, Ore.

Mrs. Morton was raised in Sibley and Buckner, and lived in Independence until moving to Troutdale in 1956. She was a bookkeeper, retiring in 1979. She volunteered at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon and was active with the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry L. Morton, in 1993.

Her survivors include two children, Kathryn J. Duncan, Fairview, Ore., and Terry L. Morton Jr., Blue Springs; one sister, Margaret Ainsworth, Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Deborah Morton, Lesa McClain, Rachel Duncan and Annie Duncan; and one great-granddaughter, Danielle McClain.

Burial was in Douglas Pioneer cemetery, Troutdale. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Gresham, Ore. The family suggests contributions to the Genealogical Forum of Oregon, 2130 S.W. Fifth Ave., Suite 200, Portland, Ore. 97201.

IMOGENE SHARP

Imogene Sharp, 72, Independence, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Sharp was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Mountain Grove, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1956. She was a technician for several optical companies for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Sharp Jr. in 1988.

Her survivors include her husband, Edward Sharp of the home; one son, Rick Sharp, Independence; two daughters, Gloria Walk, Lee`s Summit, and Virginia Etzenhouser, Independence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were today at Woodlawn cemetery, Independence. The family suggests contributions to the Federation of the Blind or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

RONALD K. WAGENER

Ronald Keith Wagener, 49, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Wagener was born June 15, 1948, in Independence. He was vice president of the Acutek Corp. He was a member of the SPE, SAE and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his wife, Deborah Wagener, of the home; his parents, Robert Keith Wagener, Independence, and Mary Loraine Kersey, Shawnee, Kan.; two sons, Ronald Kevin Wagener of the home, and Ryan Keith Wagener, Blue Springs; two sisters, Tracy Belt, Shawnee, and Robin Smith, Olathe, Kan.; six brothers, George Robinson, Olathe, Brian K. Wagener, Robert Wagener and Steven L. Wagener, all of Independence, Richard M. Wagener, Virginia, and Donald D. Wagener; and two grandsons, Riley Kent Wagener and Ryan Kyle Wagener.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.
