JOYCE I. RHOADS
Joyce Inez Rhoads, 86, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Rhoads was born April 8, 1912, in Newton, Kan., and had lived in Branson for more than 50 years, where she was the office manager for Continental Telephone Co. She had attended the American Business College in Wichita, Kan., and was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church in Branson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram R. Rhoads in 1966 and a son, Douglas Edgar Rhoads in 1933.
Her survivors include a son, Hiram Mikel Rhoads, Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Carrol Rhoads Lauer, St. Louis, Mo., and Ann Rhoads Stock, Blue Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, Branson. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery, Branson. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.
ROBERT H. PHILLIPS
Robert H. Phillips, 75, Kansas City, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Glennon Place Nursing Home, Kansas City.
Mr. Phillips was born in Graden Springs, Mo. He was an over-the-road truckdriver for the Jack Cooper Trucking Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 50 in Oklahoma.
His survivors include two brothers, Ralph B. Phillips, Branson, Mo., and John Lee Phillips, Newport, R.I.; and six sisters, Helen B. Phillips, Des Moines, Iowa, Lucy J. Hutchison, Raytown, Pearl L. Helsper, Blue Springs, Grace White and Lavetta Squires, both of Independence, and Inez Larsen, Mercer, Mo.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
JOSLYNNE M. CLARK
Joslynne Mae Clark, 8, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Joslynne was born Sept. 13, 1991, in Independence. She was a second grade student at Thomas Hart Benton School, and attended the First Baptist Church of Independence.
Her survivors include her mother and stepfather, Michelle Clark and Vince Morales of the home; her father, Gary Clark, Sapulpa, Okla.; three sisters, Sydni, Cierra and Miranda Morales; her grandparents, Sharon and Carlos Morales, Floyd Denham, Debbie Denham, and Jay Terryberry, all of Independence; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. GEORGE A. RENFRO
George A. Renfro, 77, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Renfro was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Cookson, Okla. He worked for Armco Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and an Army veteran. His wife, Geneva Renfro, died in 1993.
His survivors include two daughters, Velma Raines, Independence, and Jane Richards, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Kenneth Renfro, Independence, and David Renfro, Rosenburg, Texas; two sisters, Susie Holloway, Mount Sterling, Ill., and "Neat" Lambeth, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; one brother, Mack Renfro, West Plaines, Mo.; and four grandsons, Jeremy Raines, Mike Tillson, Charlie Richards and Brian Richards.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington Baptist Church, 9623 E. Independence Ave. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
MERLIN S. ALLEN
Merlin Stewart Allen, 77, Pleasant Hill, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City.
Mr. Allen was born June 3, 1919, in Minneapolis, and lived in Independence for 20 years before moving to Pleasant Hill in 1970. He was a commercial plumber before he retired and was a member of Plumber`s Local 8. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill RLDS congregation and a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a ship fitter 1st Class and a deep sea diver.
His survivors include his wife, Helen Williams Allen of the home; two sons, Roger E. Allen and Mark S. Allen, both of Pleasant Hill; four brothers, Stanley Allen, San Marcos, Calif., Leo Allen, San Antonio, Texas, Leon Allen, Raytown, and Gordon Allen, Independence; and two granddaughters, Michelle Allen and Melissa Allen. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Stanley & Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 3118. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association, Greater Kansas City Chapter.
OWEN C. COLLIVER
Owen C. Colliver, 93, Springfield, Ill., formerly of this area, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.
Mr. Colliver was born March 11, 1904, in Hale, Mo., and lived in this area from 1943 until moving to Springfield in 1995. He worked for the U.S. Trade School from 1943 until he retired in 1966. He was a member of Eastminister Presbyterian Church. His wife, Betty Colliver, died in 1994.
His survivors include two sons, Glenn R. Colliver, Sugar Creek, and Dr. Jerry A. Colliver, Springfield, Mo.; a brother, Alvin Colliver, Tempe, Ariz.; a sister, Lorene Owen, Garden City, Kan.; three grandchildren, Timothy L. Colliver, Kansas City, Brent R. Colliver, Sugar Creek, and Heather Lamb, Blue Springs; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel.
OSA E. CURNUTT
Osa E. Curnutt, 94, Independence, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at her home. Mrs. Curnutt was born Dec. 16, 1902, in Courtney, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a homemaker, a charter member of the Liberty Street RLDS Church, and past president of Ott Elementary School, William Chrisman High School and the Independence PTA Council. Her husband, Ernest F. Curnutt, died in 1980.
Her survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Anderson of the home; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 4:30 p.m. Friday in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel.
BESSIE GEORGE
Bessie George, 87, Independence, died Monday, March 10, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. George was born Jan. 18, 1910, in Eldon, Mo. She worked for the Brown Shoe Co. for many years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert George in 1973, and two sons, Gary George and Jimmy George.
Her survivors include three daughters, Peggy Garvey, St. Joseph, Mo., Janie Jenkins, Independence, and Lu Ann Hill, St. Catharine, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rose Hill cemetery, Brookfield, Mo. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield.
XANTHA L. McMINN
Xantha Lee McMinn, 94, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. McMinn was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Independence.
Her survivors include three daughters, Audrey Weis, Kansas City, Joanna McNaul, Laurie, Mo., and Sue Montgomery, Blue Springs; two sons, John "Jack" McMinn and Larry McMinn, both of Blue Springs; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
CORA L. McNEMEE
Cora Lorene Cameron McNemee, 81, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor in Blue Springs.
Mrs. McNemee was born in Nevada, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area since 1944. She was a clerk for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for31 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Rockwood Baptist Church.
Her survivors include three brothers, Asa William Cameron and Harry Cecil Cameron, both of Blue Springs, and Robert Eugene Cameron, East Lynne, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Englewood cemetery, Clinton, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonightat the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice.
DANIELLE E. WINSLOW
Danielle Elizabeth Winslow, 14, College Station, Texas, died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at Columbia Medical Center.
Danielle was born in Rolla, Mo., and attended A&M Consolidated High School. She participated in the school choir and theater arts and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her survivors include her parents, David and Debbie Winslow, a brother, Benjamin Winslow, and a sister, Naomi Winslow, all of the home; and her grandparents, Paul and Lorene Frye, Buckner, and Gene and Mary Ann Winslow, Independence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount United Methodist Church, 2119 Holke Road. The family suggests contributions to a trust account at Brazos Valley School Credit Union, 2298 Longmire Drive, College Station, Texas 77845.
MURLDEAN E. AUSTIN
Murldean Emily Austin, 77, Independence, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Austin was born July 2, 1919, in Pacific Junction, Iowa, and lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving to Independence in 1946. She worked for many years at May Lumber Co. in Kansas City, while also serving as a Blue Bird leader and Cub Scout den mother. While attending public schools in Council Bluffs, she distinguished herself academically and in track and field. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald Jack Austin.
Her survivors include one daughter, Sharon Keister; one son, Donald Austin; four grandchildren, Denise Dudenhoeffer, Julie Lickert, Lorie Montag and Clayton Keister; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1:30p.m. Friday at the church, 500 W. Truman Road, with a fellowship time to follow. Private burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. DOROTHY L. BAIN
Dorothy L. Smith Bain, 85, Butler, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at the Medicalodge of Butler.
Mrs. Bain was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Springfield, Mo. She was a member of the Adrian (Mo.) Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was past worthy matron of the East Gate Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her survivors include her husband, Leo Bain of the home; one son, Jim Smith, Lee`s Summit; and two grandchildren, Andrea and Justin.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. BESSIE M. COX
Bessie M. Cox, 85, Shawnee, Kan., died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Columbia Overland Park Regional.
Mrs. Cox was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Pike County, Ind. She owned and operated Bessie`s Beauty Cove and was a member of the Enoch Hill RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Cox in 1976.
Her survivors include one son, Marion A. Cox, Independence; one daughter, Mary Lorraine Kersey, Shawnee; one brother, Jake Sandage, Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Alberta Petering, Independence, and Vida Decker, Blue Springs; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

MARVIN H. HOLTGRIEVE
Marvin H. Holtgrieve, 83, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Holtgrieve was born Jan. 5, 1914, in St. Louis, and lived in St. Louis until moving to Blue Springs in 1961. He was a sales representative for several manufacturers of aluminum windows and doors and was part owner of an aluminum window and door manufacturing company before he retired. He later worked for the Jackson County Corrections Department before retiring for a second time. He served as a first lieutenant in the Army Engineering Corps during World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Isabelle "Scotty" Holtgrieve, Blue Springs; two daughters, Daryl A. Lewis, Lee`s Summit, and Gayle M. Brackman, Blue Springs; two sons, Marvin J. "Butch" Holtgrieve and Steven W. Holtgrieve, both of Blue Springs; two brothers, Millard Holtgrieve, Fort Meyers, Fla., and William Holtgrieve, St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
