FREDERICK O. WEDDLE
Frederick Orion Weddle, 81, Independence, died Friday, April 17, 1998.
Mr. Weddle was born July 31, 1916, in Fargo, N.D., and had lived in Independence since 1950. He taught for 20 years in the Raytown School District as well as five years in Rock Creek and in Iowa. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, attained the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was active in World War II and the Korean War. For 35 years, he was an elder in the RLDS Stone Church, serving as Minister of Music and as a group pastor. More recently, he had been active in the South Crysler Restoration Branch. He sang in the Independence Messiah Choir, played tympani in the Independence Symphony, and for several summers directed the city summer band. He earned degrees from the University of Iowa and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and was a member of Phi Mu Epsilon. He was an avid builder and flyer of radio controlled model planes and was active in the Kansas City Radio Controlled Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Dale.
His survivors include his wife, Donna Weddle of the home; one son, Ronald Weddle, Hillsborough, N.C.; three sisters, Esther Schaefer and Betty Jones, both of Kansas City, and Genevieve Yoos, Overland Park, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Foundation for Research on Ancient America, 210 W. White Oak, Independence, 64050.
ALICE M. WELCH
Alice M. Welch, 100, Independence, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Welch was born in 1898 in Dover, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a member of the Army Mothers Club, Lexington Road Club and the Royal Neighbors Club. Her husband, Frank D. Welch, died in 1962.
Her survivors include one son, Frank H. Welch, Independence; three grandchildren, Stuart Welch, Gregory Welch and Sheila
McCoun; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
IMOGENE SHARP
Imogene Sharp, 72, Independence, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Sharp was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Mountain Grove, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1956. She was a technician for several optical companies for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Sharp Jr. in 1988.
Her survivors include her husband, Edward Sharp of the home; one son, Keith Sharp, Independence; two daughters, Gloria Walk, Lee`s Summit, and Virginia Etzenhouser, Independence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Federation of the Blind or the American Cancer Society.
ROBERT G. BEAMGARD
Robert G. Beamgard, 61, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Beamgard was born Oct. 17, 1936, in Independence. He worked for the city of Sugar Creek for 17 years, and the past 13 years at Colonial Square Homes. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Jo.
His survivors include one son, Mark A. Beamgard; five daughters, Vicki L. Martin, Dottie J. Smith, Lola A. Polacek, Bobbie G. Lawson and Patty L. Kennedy; one brother, Roy Beamgard; and 12 grandchildren, Randy Paul, Rebecca, Keith, Christina, Brittany, David, R.J., Drew, Jolynn, Tanner, Josh and Robert.
Services were today at Charter Funerals Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Barr Hospice of Kansas City.
VIRGINIA P. DOWELL
Virginia P. Dowell, 80, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Dowell was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Brunswick, Mo. She was a member of the Sheffield Family Life Center.
Her survivors include her husband, Donald L. Dowell of the home; one daughter, Vivian Rogers, Blue Springs; one sister, Gertrude Owen, and one brother, Arthur Gates, both of Independence; one brother, Leonard Gates, Raytown; four grandchildren, Kimberly Paroli, Rebecca Henry, Patty Earley and Michelle Lutzen; and five great-grandchildren, Kallina and Kara Flowers, Brenna Paroli, Jacob Early and Aaron Henry.

THELMA "BLANCHE" LESLIE
Thelma "Blanche" Leslie, 94, Raytown, formerly of Independence, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Leslie was born Dec. 1, 1903, in Garden City, Mo. She was a member of the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Her husband, Charles E. Leslie, died in 1974.
Her survivors include two daughters, Helen Graves and Harriet Early, and two sons, Harry Leslie and Herb Leslie, all of Independence; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Garden City cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. ROSA M. MORGAN
Rosa M. Morgan, 89, of the Rosewood Care Center, died Friday. Aug. 7, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Morgan was born May 28, 1909, in Akron, Colo., and lived in Sullivan County, Harris, and just north of Spickard, all in Missouri, before moving to Independence in 1983. She and her husband farmed throughout their lives, and she was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Morgan in 1964, and one son, Robert Morgan.
Her survivors include one daughter, Etta Mae Martin, North Kansas City; a daughter-in-law, Madalene Morgan, Kansas City; two sisters, Wilma Robinson, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Thelma Jackson, Lancaster, Calif.; three grandchildren, Cheryl Arnold, Janice Crain and Phil Morgan; and three great-grandchildren, Rosa and Sarah Crain, and Kayla Morgan.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Trenton, Mo. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton.
ALBERT J. SEMLER
Albert J. Semler, 74, Raymore, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Aug, 8, 1998, at Research Belton Hospital.
Mr. Semler was born May 8, 1924, in Odessa, Mo., and lived in Independence for 30 years, moving to Raymore five years ago. He was a mechanic for the Chrysler Corp. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Raymore.
His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret Semler of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Anna and John Caoile, Raymore; and one sister, Anna Leone Anson, Blackburn, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery, Odessa.
JERROL D. SMITH
Jerrol D. Smith, 64, Bay St. Louis, Miss., formerly of Independence, died Friday, Aug. 7.
Mr. Smith was born Jan 27, 1934, in Braymer, Mo., and was a longtime Kansas City and Independence resident. He was an electrician for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124, and retired from Allied Signal in Kansas City in 1992. He was an Air Force Veteran, and a member of the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church in Independence.
His survivors include his wife, Pat Smith of the home; four children, Kathleen Conner, Grandview, Roger Smith and Brian Smith, both of Independence, and Jerry Smith, Atlanta; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Aug. 18 in Bay St. Louis.
DR. ROBERT R. "SAM" TRYON
Dr. Robert R. "Sam" Tryon, 58, Brussels, Belgium, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, in Brussels.
Dr. Tryon was superintendent of the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, Brussels district since 1992. Before Brussels, he had been superintendent of DODD'S west district in the United Kingdom that also administrated DODD'S schools in Iceland. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School and earned his doctorate in school administration in 1985 from the University of Southern California. He had worked overseas since 1968. He had served on the local school advisory council, the community advisory council and the PTA. He had also been involved in the international clubs and Scouting.
His survivors include his wife, Joyce, and son, Brant, and daughter, Jennifer; his mother, Erma Tryon; a brother, Warren Arthur Tryon; and two sisters, Phyllis Tryon Wynn and Deborah Tryon Krawl.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. GEORGE R. WILKINS
George R. Wilkins, 80, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Wilkins was born Jan. 9, 1918, in St. Joseph, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was an engineer for the Milwaukee Kansas City Southern Railroad for 20 years,
retiring in 1978. His wife, Inez M. Wilkins, died in 1996.
His survivors include a son, David Wilkins, LeCompton, Kan.; two daughters, Debbie King and Nancy Doyon, both of Independence; five brothers, Victor Wilkins, Olathe, Kan., Chuck Wilkins, Colorado, Billy Wilkins and Jimmy Wilkins, both of St. Joseph, and Bob Wilkins, Independence; two sisters, Sue Wilkins and Betty Wilkins, both of St. Joseph; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

JAMES L. HINK
James Lucas Hink, 60, Independence, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Hink was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a carpenter shop supervisor for the University of Missouri-Kansas City for 20 years. He was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Boy Scouts of America and was an honorary warrior of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
His survivors include his wife, Karon Hink, Independence; two sons, James L. Hink Jr., Raytown, and Daniel Joseph Hink, Pleasant Hill; a daughter, Jennifer Hink, Independence; three sisters, Peggy Scott, North Kansas City, Shirley Wallace, Raytown, and Norma DeMarco, Patterson, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 9 a.m. Monday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Flemington (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
HARVEY M. BAIRD SR.
Harvey M. Baird Sr., 84, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Baird was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Kansas City. He worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant as a quality control foreman, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Independence, and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Mable M. Baird of the home; one son, Harvey M. Baird Jr., and one daughter, Martha Mae Henderson, both of Independence; five grandchildren, Debbra Riley, Michelle Walters, Scott and Joshua Baird, and Lori Cervantes; and five great-grandchildren, Nicholas DeMoss, Chase, Corey and Zachary Walters, and Colby Riley.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
FRED L. MULLEN SR.
Fred Lee Mullen Sr., 64, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Mullen was born Feb. 14, 1934, in Fort Smith, Ark., and had lived in Independence since 1960. He worked for L.&C. Meat Co. in Independence, retiring in 1994. He was a Methodist, a member of VFW Post 1000 and the American Legion Post 499. He was in the Army from 1954 to 1956.
His survivors include his wife, Bonnie "Darlene" Mullen of the home; one son, Fred Mullen Jr., and one daughter, Teresa Sifuentes, both of Independence; five sisters, Shirley Knight, Fairfield Bay, Ark., Betty Deason, Lena Reed, Ouita Teague and Margaret York, all of Fort Smith, Ark.; and six grandchildren.
Services were today at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial was in New Salem cemetery.
JACOB D. DUBE
Jacob Daniel Dube, 16, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 22, 1999, in Independence.
Jacob Daniel was active at the Independence Christian Center, where he was the soundman for the church youth group. He belonged to Club 121 at school and worked at the AMC Theater.
His survivors include his mother, Lori Anne, and two brothers, Jordan Spencer Presnell and Clayton Wesley Presnell, all of the home; his father, Raymond Dube, Portland, Maine; grandparents, Freida and Larry Wiley, Cowgill, Mo., Corky Rupe, Raytown, and Paul Dube, Portland; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Independence Christian Center. The family suggests contributions to medical expenses for Lori Anne and Clayton Wesley Presnell, c/o Independence Christian Center.
