JOHN A. NOLAND
John A. Noland, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, at his home. Mr. Noland was born in Chilhowee, Mo., and moved to the Independence area in 1943. He was a machinist for Westinghouse Industrial Repair in Kansas City until retiring in 1984. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Blue Springs. His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lela Noland of the home; three sons, Barry Noland and Scott Noland, both of Independence, and Larry Noland, Buckner; a daughter, Hollee Noland, Lee`s Summit; three sisters, Maxine Wilson, Independence, Helen Grimes, Butler, Mo., and Edith Greer, Blue Springs; and six grandchildren. Cremation with memorial services at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Colbern Road Restoration Church, Lake Lotawana, Gate2. Private inurnment at a later date in New Salem cemetery, Independence. Arrangements by New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.
ROBERT L. COOPER
ROBERT L. COOPER
Robert Lee Cooper, 45, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Cooper was born March 10, 1952, in Perry, Iowa to Robert G. and Rose Townsend Cooper. He married
Melissa Knauer on Dec. 29, 1981. He was a doctor of musical arts and composition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music. He also had performed in the Kansas City area for several years. He attended Webster University in St. Louis, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La., and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Some of his compositions were performed in the United States. He was a member of the St. Peter United Methodist Church, the musician`s union, and was a second-degree black belt in Saito Ninjitsu.
His survivors include his wife, Melissa Cooper, of the home; one son, Devin Levi Cooper, of the home; two daughters, Kuri Tiffany Cooper and Mallory Alyse Cooper, both of the home; three brothers, Charles, Harry and Kenny Cooper, all of Iowa; and three sisters; Linda Millosovic, Colorado, Denise Accola, and Michelle Dorman, both of Iowa.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at the St. Peter United Methodist Church, 3609 S. Missouri 7 in Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. A memorial trust fund for his children has been established at the Mercantile Bank in Blue Springs.
WILLIAM T. CUMMINS
William "Bill" T. Cummins, 69, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Cummins was born July 29, 1928, in Lee`s Summit and lived in the Independence area for the past 44 years. He was a chemical operator for Bayer Corp. (formerly Mo-Bay Chemical) for 25 years until he retired in 1987. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge No. 3976 in Sugar Creek. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Europe during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, W.T. Cummins III, and Thomas Wilson.
His survivors include his wife, Grace Cummins, of the home; one son, William T. Cummins, Jr., Independence; three daughters, Janet Nelson, Janice Kampe, and Billie Jean Davis, all of Independence; one brother, James Cummins, Raytown; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Lee`s Summit cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel.
MATTHEW M. GILMORE
Matthew Michael Gilmore, the 15-month-old son of Eugene and Debbie Fletcher Gilmore, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nancy VunCannon Fletcher.
His survivors include his parents, Eugene and Debbie Gilmore; maternal grandparents, Dick and Sharon Fletcher, Smithville, Mo.; two uncles and aunts, Rick and Tina Fletcher and Ron and Amanda Fletcher, all of Kansas City; great-grandparents, Jesse and Doris VunCannon, Independence, Lora Fletcher, Lee`s Summit, Louise and Quent Geyer, St. Joseph; cousins, and many great aunts and uncles. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, at Speaks Midtown Chapel in Independence.
FORREST L. MILLER
Forrest L. Miller, 71, Independence, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Miller was born June 8, 1926, in Marquette, Mich. He was a chaplain assistant during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and coached youth sports at Whatsoever and Northeast community centers. He has also been involved as music director in several local churches. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was active in Heartland Presbytery for many years, including serving at one time as moderator of the presbytery. He had been employed at the Downtown YMCA and later worked with the circulation department of the Kansas City Star and Times until retiring in 1990. Following retirement, he had worked at Grace United Church, Kansas City.
His survivors include his wife, Betty, two daughters, Lucy Berry and Mari Shineman; a brother, Thomas Miller; a sister, Bonnie Jones; a nephew; niece; and grandchildren, Kevin, Troy and Megan, Richard and Steven.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 Sheley Road, Independence. Friends may call beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the church memorial fund for building improvements for the physically disabled. Arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons.
ROXANNE MORSE
Roxanne Morse, 43, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Morse was born July 21, 1954, in Topeka, Kan. She received an associate`s degree from Emporia State University. She was a secretary for the U.S. Postal Service in Kansas City for 23 years. She was a member of the Blue Springs Christian Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Keith Morse, of the home; two sons, Shane and Kyle Morse, of the home; her father and step-mother, Ralph and Patty Stiles, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and her mother and step-father, Ruby and John Vandevord, Topeka, Kan.
Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Blue Springs Christian Church. Private inurnment will be in Mount Hope cemetery in Topeka. Friends are encouraged to visit after the service on Tuesday at the church.
The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs chapel.
HARRY T. PROCTOR
Harry T. Proctor, 78, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Proctor was born April 24, 1919, in Joplin, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City and Independence for more than 50 years. He worked for Laborers Union Local No. 264 for 15 years, retiring in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; one son, Glen Proctor, Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Lillian Howard, Joplin; one brother, Charles Proctor, Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Service will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Leavenworth National cemetery. He will lie in state Tuesday morning until 11 a.m. at the Speaks Midtown Chapel.
ROBERT M. ROGERS
Robert McDonald "Bob" Rogers, 71, Tyler, Texas, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997.
Mr. Rogers was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Buckner. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, attended William Jewell College in Liberty and Kansas City Junior College. He was awarded an honorary law degree in 1987 by East Texas Baptist University. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Donald Rogers. He owned a cable television system, TCA Cable TV, Inc, and received many industry honors. He made several contributions to colleges and universities, including the Tyler Junior College and Baylor University, where he was a trustee, and East Texas Baptist University. He provided funds to Baylor to establish a course on entrepreneurship and funded a scholarship at the University of Texas at Tyler.
His survivors include his wife, Robyn Malone Rogers, three daughters, Sheryl Rogers Palmer and Cynthia Louanne Rogers, both of Tyler; two sons, Randall Kent, Tyler, and Russell Bradley, Russellville, Ark; one sister, Marth Dean Rogers Thurmon; two grandsons, Austin Michael Rogers and Ryan McDonald Rogers; two stepchildren and a niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m, Sunday, at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler. Visitation is Saturday in Tyler.
EMMA I. WILSON
Emma Ida Wilson, 83, Odessa, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 18, 1997, at the Community Care Center, Oak Grove.
Mrs. Wilson was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Burlington Junction, Mo., and had lived in the Sugar Creek/Independence area, Ray County, Mo., and Harden, Mo., area before moving to Odessa in 1945. She married
Thomas Woodrow Wilson Aug. 9, 1933.
She was a housewife. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a member of the West Central C.B. Club, Odessa. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 5, 1990, and a son, Norris W. Wilson on July 5, 1975.
Her survivors include a son, Robert L. Wilson, Oak Grove; a daughter, Mary Jane DeAtley, Odessa; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery, Odessa. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the chapel. Memorials may be given to the giver`s choice.
JACK L. SMALL
Jack L. Small, 63, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in his home.
He was born March 18, 1935, in Pittsburg, Kan. His family moved to Independence when he was nine years old and he spent the remainder of his left in the Independence area.
He graduated from William Chrisman High School and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Reliance Printing and the Herald Publishing House before starting his own business, Arrow Printing, in 1963. He retired in 1997.
He was a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch of Independence, holding the office of priest.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Small, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Gail Small; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janna and Paul Willis and Angela and Gregory Porter, all of Independence; five brothers, James J. Small, Plattsburg; Gerald M. Small, Chance R. Small, and Donald D. Small, all of Independence, and Kenneth L. Small, Blue Springs; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Lewis, Gene, Paul .
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
SAN PHY
San Phy, 54, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at St. Louis University Hospital.
She was born April 4, 1944, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and had lived in Independence since 1991.
Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mao Vath and Matthew Carpenter, two sons and daughters-in-law, Sokha K. and Molly Vath, Vuth D. and Kunthea Vath, her mother, Seng Hass, two grandchildren, Dominic R. Vath and Donovan N. Vath, and her companion, Stanley E. Jones, all of Independence.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
MARTHA L. CLARK
Martha Lou Clark, 75, Independence, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Clark was born June 20, 1923, in Parsons, Kan., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the CCW St. Gerard Guild.
Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, James E. Clark of the home; three daughters, Kathryn Conway, Independence, Charlotte Antone, Kansas City, and Jennifer Clark, Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Sean, James R. and Spencer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the church, where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Music Ministry Fund at the church.
ROBERT L. LYLE
Robert Lee Lyle, 76, Republic, Mo., formerly of this area, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at the Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Mo.
Mr. Lyle was born Oct. 20, 1922, in El Dorado, Kan. He was a Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. pioneer, retiring as manager after 45 years of service. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, participating in four major European invasions, and also served in the Air Force Reserve during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion in Independence, and a graduate of Westport High School in Kansas City. His wife, Edith Margaret Dayton Lyle, died April 27, 1998.
His survivors include one daughter, Nancy Price, Medford, Ore.; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Linda Lyle, Republic; and three grandsons, Todd Michael Lyle, Eric Robert Lyle and Dustin Lee Lyle.
Services were today at the Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will be in Urich (Mo.) cemetery.
DARRELL C. DAVIS
Darrell Clark Davis, 51, Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Davis was born April 5, 1948, in Kansas City. He was a Vietnam War veteran, and an active member of the local chapter of the POW MIA, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000. He was retired from the United Auto Workers, and had been a pastor of Beulahland Church in Independence for six years.
His survivors include his wife of 21 years, Carol Ann Davis, two children, Darren C. Davis and Holly N. Davis, his parents, Enid A. Davis and Carroll C. Davis, and one sister, April D. Lombardo, all of Independence; two brothers, Randy M. Davis, Smithville, Mo., and Aaron P. Davis, Blue Springs; and four grandchildren.
Services were Aug. 26 at Chapel of Memories Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Burial was in the Jackson County Veteran's Field of Honor at Swan Lake Gardens. The family suggests contributions in Mr. Davis' name to your favorite charity.
DELBERT E. MUSGRAVE
Delbert Eugene Musgrave, 69, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Musgrave was born March 7, 1929, in Clarksburg, W.Va., and lived in Norton, Ohio, before moving to Independence in 1992. He retired in 1986 from W.G. Lockhart Construction Co., Akron, Ohio, and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 348, Akron. He was a member of the Restoration Church in Independence, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Musgrave of the home; four sons, and one daughter-in-law, David Musgrave, Barberton, Ohio, and Keith Musgrave, Jimmy Musgrave and Jeffrey and Alameda Musgrave, all of Independence; two brothers, Edward Musgrave, Norton, and Carl Musgrave, Talmadge, Ohio; three sisters, Juanita Cox, Wadsworth, Ohio, Willa Dean Butt, Doylestown, Ohio, and Judith Cox, Uniontown, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
