DORA E. BARKER

Dora E. Barker, 90, Independence, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Barker was born Jan. 30, 1907, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a member of the First Church of God, Fraternal Order of Eagles 385 Women`s Auxiliary.Her husband, Ora Lee Barker, died in 1962.

Her survivors include one daughter, Joan Peters, Independence; three grandchildren, Clayton L. Barker, Sugar Creek, Linda K. Mallery, Lehighton, Pa., and Kathryn E. Rueber, Overland Park, Kan.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the George C.Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

JOYCE L. KING

Joyce L. King, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

EDITH E. LOGEMAN

Edith E. Logeman, 96, Independence, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Mrs. Logeman was born Aug. 22, 1900, in Grannis, Ark., and had lived in Independence for 70 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gudgell Park RLDS congregation. Her husband, Ammon E. Logeman, died in 1968.

Her survivors include one son, Otto "Bud" Logeman, Grain Valley; one daughter, Margaret I. Carlson, Lindsborg, Kan.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Heart of America Hospice, 9229 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.

SISTER MARY ALPHONSA MASTERSON

Sister Mary Alphonsa Masterson of Independence died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, in Independence.

Sister Masterson was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Pawhuska, Okla., and professes her faith April 13, 1921, in Nevada, Mo. She was baptized Marie Odilia and was given the name of Opal by the Cherokee mid-wife who delivered her. She began nurturing first her sister and four brothers, later elementary and academy students and her religious community as a nurse and teacher. She was a principal in Nevada, Martinsville, Pierce City, Higginsville, Tipton, Lexington, Independence, Warrensburg and Clinton in Missouri, was a house mother, mentor, counselor, infirmarian and Mother Superior.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Angel Chapel at St. Francis of the Holy Eucharist in Independence. Graveside services will be 2p.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary cemetery, Nevada. A rosary will be said at 7:30p.m. Friday at St. Francis. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

BARBARA M. McCORD

Barbara M. McCord, 60, Independence, died Monday, May 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. McCord was born Aug. 25, 1936, in Denver and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a financial clerk for the U.S. Treasury Department for 20 years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Missionary Restoration Branch. Her husband, Lloyd R. McCord, died in 1969.

Her survivors include three daughters, Karen Fike of the home, and Brenda Scott and Grace Ferguson-Betts, both of Independence; one brother, Wayne D. Holmes, Independence; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were today at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial was in Mound Grove cemetery.

THELMA R. SALTER

Thelma R. Salter, 79, Lillian, Ala., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

Mrs. Salter was born June 23, 1917, in Blue Springs, and lived in Kansas City until 1948, and in Denver until moving to Lillian in 1982.

Her survivors include her husband, John W. Salterof the home; three sons, Billy G. Salter, Georgia, Gerald W. Salter, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and James D. Salter, Molino, Fla.; one daughter, Donna Salter, New York; three brothers, Dennis Elliott, Foley, Ala., Charles D. Elliott, Phoenix, and Donald Elliott, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Loren Banger and Delia Thompson, both of Independence; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Grain Valley cemetery. Friends may call from 10to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel.

M. MARIE SCHNAKENBERG

M. Marie Schnakenberg, 93, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, May 13, at St. Mary`s Manor in Blue Springs.

Mrs. Schnakenberg was born June 20, 1903, in Sweet Springs, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of Timothy Lutheran Church She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Schnakenberg in the early 1970s.

Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery, Concordia, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the church.

MORGAN TALLMAN

Morgan Tallman, infant child of John K. Tallman Sr. and Carolyn S. Tallman of Sibley, died Monday, May 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Survivors also include one brother, John K. Tallman Jr. of the home; maternal grandparents, Earl and Ann Peters, Sibley; paternal grandmother, Bessie Tallman, Salisbury, Mo.; and maternal great-grandmother, Clara Pokershak, Gaylord, Mich.

Services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel. SHARON L. THOMPSON

Sharon Louise Thompson, 46, Warrensburg, Mo., died Tuesday, May 13, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Thompson was born Oct. 22, 1951, in Kansas City and lived in Kansas City until moving to the Warrensburg area in 1972. She was owner/operator of Thompsons Machine Quilting in Warrensburg and Odessa. She was a 1969 graduate of East High School and attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, from 1969 to 1972. She was a member of the Fayetteville (Mo.) Homemakers Club and was a judge for the Missouri State Fair for knitting and crocheting from 1992 to 1996.

Her survivors include her husband, Tom Thompson, and two sons, Andrew P. Thompson and Steven A. Thompson, all of the home; three brothers, Ben Jurd, Independence, Robert Jurd, Linn, Mo., and Allen Jurd, Sugar Creek; and her stepmother, Donna Jurd, Jefferson City, Mo.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Tabor cemetery, southeast of Odessa. Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice Division of Johnson County Health Service.

TERESA D. TITUS

Teresa Diane Titus, 50, Independence, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Titus was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Nevada, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. She was a painter and a member of the Independence Art Association. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended Coventry Estates Baptist Church.

Her survivors include her husband, Richard E. Titus of the home; two sons, David E. Titus and Sean P. Titus, both of Independence; her mother, Betty Mustain, Grove, Okla.; three brothers, Steve Mullis, Independence, Michael Mullis, Tulsa, Okla., and Rod Mustain, Grove; and four grandchildren, Chris, Craig, Cheyenne and Tyler.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Coventry Estates Baptist Church. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

THELMA WINTERMEYER

Thelma Wintermeyer, 83, Blue Springs, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at a nursing home in Lexington, Mo.

Mrs. Wintermeyer was born in Magnolia, Iowa, and was a lifelong Independence and Grain Valley resident.

Her survivors include one daughter, Vickie Krikorian, Lexington; one son, Mike Wintermeyer, Grain Valley; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Cremation. The family suggests contributions to the National Diabetes Foundation.

DARWIN L. BOZARTH

Darwin L. Bozarth, 87, Lee`s Summit, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.

Mr. Bozarth was born May 26, 1907, in Swink, Colo., and lived in Wichita, Kan., from 1935 until moving to this area in 1946. He was a tool and die maker for Boeing Aircraft and recently retired as a greeter from the Lee`s Summit Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Lee`s Summit RLDS congregation and a former member and associate pastor of the Wichita RLDS congregation. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Halie Bozarth in 1968, and a stepson, Jerry in 1995. His survivors include his wife, Thelma Bozarth of the home; two daughters, Lorraine Green, Alpine, Colo., and Darlene, Citrus Height, Calif.; a sister, Roselle Bozarth, Independence; two stepsons, Russell Adams, Carrier, Miss., and Bob Adams, Susanville, Calif.; three grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the John Knox Village Chapel, Lee`s Summit. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.

RICK CARTMILL

Rick Cartmill, 35, Kansas City, died Monday, March 31, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital. Mr. Cartmill was born Jan. 30, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan. He was a member of Norfleet Baptist Church and was a coordinator for the National Pen Pal Progarm for the Cystic Fibrosis Network Inc.

His survivors include his wife, Barbara Cartmill of the home; two stepdaughters, Miki Mellott, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Eliza Smith of the home; his parents, Dale and Charlene Rorie, Kansas City, and Richard A. Cartmill, Independence; his grandmother, Alpha Rorie, Independence; a brother, Mike Rorie, Warrensburg, Mo.; two sisters, Michelle Blue, Kansas City, and Melissa McDonald, Atlanta; eight nephews; and two nieces.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Rick Cartmill Memorial Fund or to the Cystic Fibrosis Network Inc., P.O. Box 204, Dublin, Pa., 18917.

HAZEL M. HEAVENER

Hazel Marie Heavener, 84, Kansas City, died Monday, March 31, 1997, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mrs. Heavener was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Grandview, Mo. She was a member of Triumphant Assembly of God Church. Her husband, Louie Albert Heavener, died in 1960.

Her survivors include four sons, Billy G. Heavener and Louie L. Heavener, both of Independence, and Robert Heavener and Jimmie D. Heavener, both of Kansas City; five daughters, Shirley A. Heavener, Mildred D. Heavener, Betty J. Heavener and Barbara J. Heavener, all of Kansas City, and Ida B. Plank, Sturgeon, Mo.; one brother, Henry Smith, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Dorothy McKenzie, Holden, Mo., and Georgia Holter, Lee`s Summit; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at thechapel.

THOMAS F. MURRAY

Thomas F. Murray, 77, Independence, died Monday, March 31, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Murray was born March 14, 1920, in Mendon, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 20 years. He was a welder for Don`s Mobile Welding.

His survivors include a companion, Mildred Koonce of the home; four sons, Harold L. Murray, Phoenix, Raymond E. Murray, Independence, Richard A. Murray, Kansas City, and Tommy L. Murray, Topeka; one daughter, Mary Ann Murray, Kansas City; five brothers; three sisters; several grandchildren, including Ronald Murray of Kansas City; and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Oak Hill cemetery, Carrollton, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the Carson Independence Chapel.

JESSE R. STOGSDILL JR.

Jesse R. Stogsdill Jr., 79, Kansas City, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Stogsdill was born Jan. 6, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a lifelong area resident. He was a bus driver for the Kansas City Area Transit Authority for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Mount Calvary United Methodist Church and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was an Army Corps of Engineers veteran of World WarII.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stogsdill of the home; one daughter, Jessica Stogsdill, and three sons, Joseph Stogsdill, Daniel Stogsdill and John Stogsdill, all of Kansas City; one brother, Lee Stogsdill, Kansas City, Kan.; and one sister, Verna Hubbell, Basehor, Kan.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

ROBERT L. CROWE

Robert Lee Crowe, 70, Odessa, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Crowe was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Lexington, Mo., and had lived in Lafayette County for more than 40 years since moving from Johnson County, Mo. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a staff-sergeant serving in the Battle of Luzon. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star; the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze battle star, the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan. He worked for 22 years as a tool and dye maker for Black, Cyvals & Bryson until retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Restoration Branch Church and the VFW 5675, both of Odessa. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Ellen Crowe on Aug. 5, 1962. His survivors include his wife, Marian L. Crowe of the home; his stepmother, Mary Crowe, Independence; a son, Robert L. Crowe Jr., Odessa; five daughters, Brenda Moore, Oak Grove, Karen Hicks, Everett, Wash., Dianne Locke, Dorothy Morris and Bonita Crowe, all of Odessa; three brothers, Luther Crowe, White Mountain, Ariz., and Donald and Jack Crowe, both of Independence; two sisters, Betty Hoover and Doris Steele, both of Independence; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Odessa Restoration Branch Church, Odessa. Burial will be in the Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Husman-Sparks-McDowell Funeral Chapel, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

RONALD D. DANNER

Ronald D. Danner, 48, Odessa, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 1997, at his home. Mr. Danner was born July 11, 1948, in Rich Hill, Mo., and had lived in Independence until moving to Odessa in 1978. He a metalurgist/inspector for Armco Steel, Kansas City, until retiring in 1989 after 25 years. He was a member of the Holden Baptist Temple, Holden, Mo., where he was also on the board of trustees. He was a member and board member of the Midwest Beekeepers Association. His survivors include his wife, Rose Ann Danner, a son, Jeff Danner, and a daughter, Angela Danner, all of the home; his father, John Wesley Danner, Tacoma, Wash.; his mother, Mary L. Danner, Independence; two brothers, Johnnie L. Danner and Rick A. Danner, both of Independence; and a sister, Deborah F. Kalwei, Independence. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Ronald D. Danner Memorial Fund.

ELIZABETH A. JUENGLING

Elizabeth Ann Juengling, 85, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997. Mrs. Juengling was born Oct. 19, 1911, in Carterville, Mo., and had lived in Blue Springs most of her life. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs since1957. Her survivors include her husband of 66 years, Harold H. Juengling of the home; two daughters, Darlyne Smith, Gig Harbor, Wash., and Irene Howard, Blue Springs; a sister, Rose M. Oakes, Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren, Ted R. Camper, Timothy H. Camper, Thomas W. Camper, Treg A. Camper, Joseph P. Lampe, Diana R. Larsen, Robert D. Howard and Jennifer E. Million; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel.
