MABEL CLINTON
Mabel Campbell Clinton, 86, Solana Beach, Calif., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, in La Jolla, Calif.
Mrs. Clinton was born Oct. 19, 1912, in McGregor, Mich., and moved to Independence in 1919. She had lived in Solana Beach for eight years. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a graduate of William Chrisman High School. Her parents, William J. and Minnie Sherman Campbell, owned several businesses just off the Square, including a hardware store and a produce business. She moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1935 after her marriage to James Howard Clinton Jr.,
the only child of James H. and Roberta Martin Clinton. They were the proprietors of the Clinton Drug Store established on the Independence Square in 1888, the building where Harry Truman held his first job and is now owned by the Jackson County Historical Society.
She was a homemaker and was active in volunteer work all her life. After moving to Rancho Santa Fe she was a Campfire Girl leader, chairman of the Halloween Carnival for the Rancho Santa Fe Elementary School, chairman of the Rancho Santa Fe Riding Club horse show, chairman of the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club rummage sale and a founding member of a charitable organization, Country Friends, besides serving as chairman and member of many other committees. She and her husband owned commercial and rental property in California, including a hotel, motel, restaurant, parking garage, parking lots and a service station. Her husband died in 1971.
Her survivors include one daughter, Jamie Detweiler, Solana Beach; one granddaughter, Shannon Detweiler, San Clemente, Calif.; one sister, Violet Campbell Sackman, Independence; and two nieces, Patty Campbell Lund, Liberty, Mo., and Carolyn Sackman Scafe, Independence.
Cremation. Arrangements were under the direction of the El Camino Mortuary, San Diego.
RONALD L. CAMPBELL
Ronald L. Campbell, 56, Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Campbell was born Feb. 17, 1941, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. He worked for AGCO Corp (formerly Allis-Chalmers) for 36 years. He was a 1960 graduate of William Chrisman High School and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
His survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Lehmann, Blue Springs; a son, Jason Campbell, Houma, La.; three brothers, William Campbell, Oak Grove, Charles Campbell, Marceline, Mo., and Loy Campbell, Blue Springs; and two grandchildren, Nick Lehmann and Lindsey Lehmann.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
PAUL J. GRIST
Paul J. Grist, 89, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Grist was born in Holland, Ill. He received an electrical engineering degree from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, in 1933, and worked for 40 years for Standard of Indiana and Amoco Pipeline Co., retiring as electrical and communications supervisor over five states with headquarters in Raytown. He had been a member of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church since 1952, a member of the Scottish Rite of Kansas City and Ararat Shrine, and a past master of the Masonic Lodge of Odessa.
His survivors include his wife, Sylvia M. Alderman Grist of the home; five daughters, Margaret Ann Coulter, Marissa, Ill., Betty Jean Johnson, Oxnard, Calif., Anita Marie Ganser, Mesa, Ariz., Eileen Frances Schreiber, Overland Park, Kan., and Donna Louise Nally, Kansas City; four brothers, John Grist, Kansas City, Walter Grist, Minneapolis, Warren Grist, Jenks, Okla., and George Grist, Wichita, Kan.; four sisters, Mary Snodgrass, Towanda, Kan., Anna Ayres, Andover, Kan., Winifred Reed, Decatur, Ala., and Ruth Evans, Wichita; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church.
FRANCES M. HINK
Frances May Hink, 93, Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Hink was born March 9, 1904, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a homemaker and attended school in Greenwood and William Jewell Junior College. She was a life member of the First Baptist Church of Independence and the Junior Service League and was active in the Jackson County Historical Society. She was the founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. Her husband, Dr. Fredrick W. Hink, died in 1996.
Her survivors include two cousins, Harold Vince, Independence, and Julia Thomas, Littleton, Colo.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel.
ERNEST C. PIERSON
Ernest C. Pierson, 83, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Pierson was born in Fulton, Mo. He was an auto worker for the B.O.P. Plant, General Motors. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Methodist and had been a Scoutmaster. His wife, Samantha G. Pierson, died in 1993.
His survivors include a daughter, Janice C. Butkovich, Independence; a brother, Jimmy Pierson, Fulton; three grandchildren, Eric Butkovich, Michael Butkovich and Nicole Butkovich, and three great-granddaughters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Muehlebach Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where lodge services will be held.
PEGGY J. BOYER
Peggy June Boyer, 71, Independence, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Boyer was born on April 16, 1926, in Jamesport, Mo., and had lived in the area for 45 years. She had been a bookkeeper at the Independence Bank for10 years before going to work as a clerk at the Sears Store at Independence Center for 10 years. She retired in 1987. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Jewell B. Boyer of the home; a daughter, Connie Evans, Blue Springs; a sister, Beverly Mallory, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Services were today at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial was in Jamesport (Mo.) Masonic cemetery.
SAMUEL E. HOOVER III
Samuel E. Hoover III, 73, Independence, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City.
Mr. Hoover was born Oct. 9, 1923, at Moberly, Mo., and had lived in this area for more than 50 years. He was an electronic checker for the Bendix Corp. for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the Navy during World War II. He enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Betty L. Hoover of the home; a son, Samuel E. Hoover IV, of Lee`s Summit; a granddaughter, Sarah Cooper, Lee`s Summit; an aunt, two nephews and one niece. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.
KENNETH E. LILE
Kenneth Eugene Lile, 53, Kansas City, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997, in Kansas City.
Mr. Lile was born in Kansas City. He was an assistant manager.
His survivors include his wife, Glenda Lile of Kansas City; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Williamson; three brothers, Gary Lile, Lyle Friess and Robert Lile;and a sister, Gwindolyn Banks.
Graveside services were today at Sunny Slope cemetery, Richmond, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City.
RALPH M. LINDSEY
Ralph M. Lindsey, 69, Independence, died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Lindsey was born on Sept. 8, 1927, in Lamar, Mo., and had lived in the area most of his life. He was a truck driver for Teamster`s Local No. 41 for more than 50 years, retiring in 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maybell Lindsey in 1992.
His survivors include two sons, John T. Lindsey, Morris, Ill., and Skip H. Lindsey, Independence; four daughters, Linda Duckett, Donna Chasteen and Margaret Osburn, all of Independence, and Mary Creel, Sugar Creek; eight sisters, Martha Durkin, Veda Phillips, Edith Moss and Mary Reddell, all of Independence, Sadie Love, Holden, Mo., Barbara Wharton, Appleton City, Mo., Pearl Jones, Clinton, Mo., and Nancy Jones, Calhoun, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family will have an open house from 1 to 6 today at 3004 S. Norwood. Cremation with private burial. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.
DORIS J. RIDDLE
Doris Jean Riddle, 45, Independence, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at her home.
Ms. Riddle was born May 29, 1952, in Independence and had lived in this area most of her life. She was an administrative clerk for Cigna Insurance Co.
Her survivors include a son, Patrick Wolf, and a brother, Terry L. Richardson, both of Independence.

ROBERT H. TINDALL
Robert Harold Tindall, 67, Independence, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Tindall was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a driver and salesman for County Beverage Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He was working at Alissa`s Flowers and Gifts at the time of his death. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a former president of Eagles 385, a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1000, a former member of American Legion 499, and a member of Teamster Union Local 838, Bingham Waggoner Historical Society and the Civil War Roundtable of Western Missouri. He was preceded indeath by a son, Joseph Tindall in 1982.
His survivors include his wife, Charlotte Lionberger Tindall of the home; a daughter, Linda Hoge, Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, John Tindall, Buckner, and Jack Tindall, Blue Springs; two sisters, Mary Lou Wilder and Barbara Greeson, Independence; and three grandchildren, Jason Tindall, Laura Tindall and Dervin Tindall.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, with military services being presented by VFW Post 1000. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
WYBLE J. WARFORD
Wyble J. "Jim" Warford, 77, Raytown, died Friday, July 4, 1997, at the Hidden Lake Care Center.
Mr. Warford was born April 14, 1920, in Hurdland, Mo., and had lived in Raytown since 1955. From 1947 to 1951, he was a principal, teacher and boys` basketball coach in Stanley, Iowa; from 1951 to 1955, he was the superintendant of the Edgewood (Iowa) School District; from 1955 to 1963, he was the principal at Raytown High School; and in 1961, he became the first principal of Raytown South high School until 1970. He became the director of the Safety/Driver`s Education Center of Raytwon Consolidated School District 2 from 1970 until he retired in 1981.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 1916th Ordnance Group. He achieved the rank of lieutenant and was a navigator/bombardier. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church, Raytown Kiwanis Club, Avalon Masonic Lodge 606 in Edgewood, the Missouri State and Raytown Retired Teachers Association and the Jackson County Retired Administrators Association. He was a life member of the National Education Association.
His survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Warford of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Jones, Blue Springs; a sister, Justine "Tina" Whiteaker, Overland Park, Kan.; two grandsons, Kyle Jones and Kevin Jones; four nieces; and two nephews.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church or the care center.
SYLVANUS R. WARNOCK
Sylvanus Renald "Ren" Warnock, 83, Independence, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at his home.
Mr.Warnock was born in Union City, Ohio, and grew up in Fort Recovery, Ohio, before moving to this area in 1942. He was an inspector for the Bendix Corp., retiring in 1977. Previously he worked for the Ford Motor Co. He was a member of the Pleasant Heights RLDS congregation and a former member of the Sterling Avenue congregation.
His survivors include his wife, Georgia Roberta Warnock of the home; two sons, Jerome A. Warnock, Independence, and James R. Warnock, Kansas City; three daughters, Salley C. Closson, Raytown, Susie R. Warnock, Independence, and Janie E. Epstein, Prairie Village, Kan.; a brother, R. Maurice Warnock, Maumee, Ohio; a sister, Clara Isabelle Abrat, Norwood, Ohio; 16 grandchildren, Gregory, Jeffrey, Steven, Aaron, Wendy, Matthew, Chad, Carol, Kelly, Elizabeth, Anne, Amy, Alexander, Christopher, Saul, Nathan and Jacob; and eight great-grandchildren.

CAROLYN DAWSON
Carolyn Scott Dawson, 71, Independence, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Dawson was born May 15, 1926, in Independence, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She received her master`s degree in education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and was a history teacher for more than 30years at the Clifford H. Nowlin Junior High School, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation, the Junior Service League of Independence, Delta Kappa Gamma and the AFT.
Her survivors include one son, Tom Dawson, Texas City, Texas; one daughter, Jeanne Dawson Simpson, Kansas City; one sister, Jeanne Miller, Independence; two granddaughters, Shauna Simpson and Chelsea Simpson; and two nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
DEAN R. BOYD
Dean Raymond Boyd, 71, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at Lee`s Summit Hospital.
Mr. Boyd was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Warrensburg, Mo., and had lived in Moberly, Mo., for most of his life. He was owner/operator of Boyd Oil Co., Moberly, for 41 years until retiring in 1991. He had been a Sunday school teacher, choir member and past Sunday school superintendent of the First Baptist Church in Moberly. He had served for 20 years on the Board of Trustees of Moberly Area Community College until retiring in 1996. He was a Rotarian. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Hazel Boyd of the home; three daughters, Laura Reed, Minneapolis, Minn., Rhonda Spicer, Grain Valley, and Libby Comfort, Blue Springs; two brothers, Dale Boyd, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Bill Boyd, Raytown; a sister, Beatrice Turnage, Pascagoula, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Moberly. Entombment will be in Oakland Garden Mauseoleum of Oakland cemetery, Moberly. A prayer service in celebration of his life will be at 7 tonight at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Friends may also call from 5:30 until service time tonight at the church or from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Million-Taylor-Patton Funeral Home, Moberly. ERNEST J. BRADSHAW
Ernest Jackson Bradshaw, 78, Bates City, Mo., died Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at the home of his sister in Bates City.
Mr. Bradshaw was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Port Orchard, Wash. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a batch weigher for Miller-Cooper Ink Co., Kansas City, for 35 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Coin Bradshaw.
His survivors include a son, Clyde L. Bradshaw, East Wenatchee, Wash.; a sister, Merva Bird, Bates City; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous stepchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services willbe 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 2 until service time at the chapel.
