ALICE M. SCHULTZ
Alice Margaret Schultz, 76, Caulfield, Mo., died Saturday, June 7, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital Northland.
She was born April 3, 1921, in Bates City, Mo. She had lived in the area most of her life. She was baptized in the RLDS Church. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club and was an avid quilter, winning many blue ribbons.
Her survivors include her husband, Carl E. Schultz of the home; a son, Carl F. Schultz, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Alice J. Richards, Smithville, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Tann and Kathleen Butcher, both of Independence; a brother, Don Balldus, Independence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the charity of the donors choice.
MARY S. STONE
Mary Sue Stone, 58, Lake Tapawingo, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at St. Mary`s Blue Springs Hospital.
Mrs. Stone was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Joplin, Mo., and has lived in Lake Tapawingo since 1962. She was a graduate of Central Missouri State University with a teaching degree in English. She taught English at South Raytown High School for five years. She then retired to be a homemaker. She was a member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church and has served as both an elder and a deacon. She was a member of the Chapter LE, P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Her survivors include her husband, Jim Stone of the home; a daughter, Kristin A. Stone, Hamilton, Ill.; two sons, Kevin H. Stone, Olathe, and Kyle B.Stone, Dearborn, Mo. a sister, Norma J. Keys, Salt Lake City, Utah; a grandson, Colby Stone, a sister, Norma J. Keys, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Services will be 1:30 today at the Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs. Inurnment will be at the Blue Springs cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.
JON P. SUMMERS
Jon P. Summers, 41, Grain Valley, died Thursday, June 5, 1997, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Mr. Summers was born in Ogden, Utah, and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1968. He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1974 and was a commercial construction carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenter and Millwright Union. He was a member of the LDS Church, Blue Springs First Ward.
His survivors include his wife, Lou Ann Summers of the home; a son, Jon Summers of the home; three daughters, Shawna, Alissia and Rebecca Summers of the home; his father, James K. Summers, Layton, Utah; two brothers, Morris Summers, Prairie Village, Kan., James M. Summers, Layton, Utah; three sisters, Diann Johns, Clearfield, Utah; Rebecca Wilde, Orem, Utah, and Traci Summers, Wilmington, N.C.; and a grandmother, Pearle Pledger, Clearfield, Utah.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley. Burial will be at Perdee cemetery in Grain Valley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Royer Chapel.
ETHEL M. JOSLIN
Ethel Mae Joslin, 94, Odessa, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at Lafayette Regional Hospital, Lexington, Mo.
Mrs. Joslin was born in Fairmount, Minn., and had lived in Anamosa, Iowa, before moving to Odessa. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joslin in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Bowles, Independence; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were today at Mound Grove cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Muehlebach Funeral Home.
NOLA D. SAVANA
Nola Dee Savana, Independence, died Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Savana was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Independence and had lived in California before returning to Independence three years ago. She had been a beautician and owned the Nola`s Beauty Shop in Yuba City, Calif., for 30 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Center Branch Restoration Church and the Center Branch Women`s Group and Restoration Tithers Association. Shewas preceded in death by her husband, James Gilbert Savana in 1994, and a son, Bruce Rene Savana in 1995.
Her survivors include two daughters, Dee L. Savana Sr., and S. Diane Adkins, both of Independence; a stepmother, Martha McNeely, and two sisters, Elaine Heath and Monica Christensen, all of Independence; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mound Grove cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made tothe American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.
AMY M. BROWNING
Amy M. Browning, 21, Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, May 30, 1997, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Miss Browning was born June 21, 1975, in Tulsa, Okla. She was a member of the Triumphant Church Assembly of God.
Her survivors include her father, Rick Browning, Tulsa; her mother and stepfather, Brenda and Claude Robinson, Kansas City, Kan.; four brothers, Rick Browning, James Browning and Bo Browning, all of Tulsa, and Jason Goebel, Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters, Christina Browning, Tulsa, Lori Goebel, Kansas City, Kan., and Shawn Turney, Independence; one stepbrother, Denny Robinson, and one stepsister, Michelle Johnson, both of Kansas City, Kan.; maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Wanda and James Patterson, Kansas City; maternal grandfather, William Turney, Chillcotha, Okla.; and stepgrandmother, Eula Robinson, Kansas City, Kan.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Amy Browning Memorial Fund.
GEORGE R. GLASGOW, JR. George R. Glasgow, Jr., 73, Excelsior Springs, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Mr. Glasgow was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Columbus, Kan., and lived in Independence from 1953 until moving to Excelsior Springs six years ago. He worked for Allis Chalmers for 27 years before retiring in 1984, and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 61. He was also a member of the Flack Memorial Christian Church of Excelsior Springs. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Irene Glasgow in 1988.
His survivors include his wife, W. Nadine Glasgow of the home; one daughter, Johnna D. Harris-Lingle, Shawnee, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Columbus (Kan.) City cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army.
MARGARET J. HAYS
Margaret Jane (Scott) Hays, 79, Independence, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Hays was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Lamoni, Iowa, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Earl Hays in 1987. Her survivors include three daughters, Connie Wyatt, Independence, Judy Horne, Spring, Texas, and Linda Graybill, Warrensburg, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Haleand Evelyn Adams, both of Independence; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Wednesday in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Independence Regional Hospice.
AMBER L. PATTON
Amber Lynn Patton, infant daughter of Adam and Anette Patton of, Independence, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Her suvivors also include one brother, Austin Michael Patton, and a twin sister, Audrey Nichole Patton, both of the home; paternal grandparents, Gary and Debbie Patton, Independence; maternal grandparents, Everett and Jackie Ortega, Lee`s Summit; paternal great-grandparents, Marian Patton and Delores Drinkard, both of Independence, and Alex Drinkard, York, Neb.; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Ruth Lusso, Independence.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Floral Hills East cemetery, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
MILDRED STEWART
Mildred Stewart, 85, Independence, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Stewart was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Independence where she spent most of her life. She was a hairstylist for Harzfelds, the Jones Store and Stix-Bauer and Fuller. She owned her own shops for more than 35 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Hill Cumorah Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by her husbands Myron Chamberlain and Donald S. Stewart.
Her survivors include two sons, Gene Chamberlain, Overland Park, Kan., and Larry Stewart, Maple Hill, Kan.; two brothers, Virgil Crull, Springfield, Mo., and William Crull, Independence; two sisters, Charlotte McKrill of the home, and Wilma Ballinger, Galveston, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Parkinson`s Disease Association.
CHESTER H. TAYLOR
Chester H. Taylor, 77, Kansas City, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Taylor was born July 12, 1919, in Moberly, Mo., and had lived in the area for 50 years. He was a switchman for Rock Island and Cotton Belt Southern Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1980, and was a 45-year member of United Transportation Union Local 1368. He was also a member of Cecile Daylight Masonic Lodge AF&AM 305 in Kansas City and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Hunt Taylor in 1953.
His survivors include his wife, WynonaSchwanke Taylor of the home; four sons, David Taylor, Kansas City, and WilliamSchwanke, Jimmy Schwanke and Danny Schwanke, all of New London, Mo.; six daughters, Janet White, Junction City, Kan., Patty Poe, Kansas City, Kan., Charlene Salazar, Kansas City, Margaret St. Clair, New London, Diana Goodman, Oak Grove, and Nora Meadows, Independence; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Cremation with burial in Moberly Oakland cemetery. Funeral services are pending at Million-Taylor-Patton Funeral Home in Moberly. Local arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
BERTHA G. YOUNG
Bertha Gladys (Zook) Young, 88, Belton, Mo., died Friday, May 30, 1997, in Independence.
Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Zook, and one daughter, Murle Weisbach.
Her survivors include one son, Milo E. Zook, Ridgeway, Mo.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ridgeway cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Polley-Slaughter-Polley Funeral Home in Ridgeway, with family receiving friends from noon to 1:30 p.m.
RUSSELL E. HARWOOD
Russell Edwin Harwood, 92, Buckner, died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at Maywood Terrace Living Center.
Mr. Harwood was born May 14, 1905, in Royal Oak, Mich., and lived in Royal Oak before moving to Buckner four years ago. He was a sales agent for the Rap Co. in Royal Oak, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a 25-year member of the Christian Businessmen, both in Royal Oak. He wasa life member of Royal Oak Masonic Lodge 506 in Ferndale, Mich., and served as chaplain for Street and Prison Ministries for many years in Michigan. His wife, Selma Harwood, died in 1968.
He is survived by one son, Edwin M. Harwood, Buckner; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren..
Graveside services were today at Buckner Hill cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home, Buckner.
DOROTHY E. MORRIS
Dorothy Ellen Morris, 77, Independence, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at Independence Manor.
Mrs.Morris was born June 24, 1919, in Peoria, Ill., and lived in Illinois before moving to this area 25 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, William Howell in 1978.
Her survivors include one son, Thomas Howell, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of Morticians Service in Kansas City.
S. LEE ROBINSON
S. Lee Robinson, 54, Butler, Mo., died Friday, May 23, 1997, at White Ridge Care Center in Lee`s Summit.
Mr. Robinson was born May 8, 1943, in Butler and had lived in Butler most of his life. He was a farmer in the Butler area for many years and was a member of the Butler RLDS congregation.
His survivors include two sons, Stacy Davenport and Shaun Davenport, both of Butler; one daughter, Kristie Davenport, Warsaw, Mo.; two brothers, Charles Robinson, Independence, and Guy Robinson, Butler; one sister, Martha Beatty, Lee`s Summit; and three grandchildren.
Cremation, with memorial services at 7 p.m. Saturday at the RLDS church, 409 W. Dakota, Butler. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
RUBY L. SAMPLE
Ruby L. Sample, 82, Independence, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Sample was a member of the Mount Washington Eastern Star and the White Shrine.
Her survivors include two daughters, Barbara Malone and Juanita Kelly, both of Independence; a sister, Flossie McDonald, Butler, Mo.; a brother, Frank Fritts, Amsterdam, Mo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
