C. GARY SIRON
C. Gary Siron, 55, Independence, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.
Mr. Siron was born Aug. 31, 1942, in Sedalia, Mo. He served four years in the U.S. Army. He attended the University of Missouri and earned a bachelor`s degree in accounting from Central Missouri State University. He was a senior financial systems analyst at Hallmark Cards, where he worked for nearly 32 years.
His survivors include his wife, Connie Siron of the home; his children, Sharon Ella, Troy Alan and Susanne M.; a sister, Mary Cathryn DeLapp, Sedalia; and six brothers, Robert E. Siron, Huntsville, Ala., Donald L. Siron, Columbia, S.C., Ralph D. Siron, Mexico, Mo., Michael L. Siron, Sedalia, Stanley D. Siron, Lincoln, Neb., and his twin brother, Larry Siron, Overland Park, Kan.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Unity Temple, 707 W. 47th St., Kansas City. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or other charities.
JOHN H. MOSS
John Henry Moss, 75, Independence, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Moss was born May 28, 1922, in Buckner. He worked for the Jones Truck Line for 33 years, retiring in 1979, and was a member of Teamsters Local Union 41.
His survivors include his wife, Alma Moss of the home; two sons, John R. Moss, Bates City, and Jerry W. Moss, Independence; one daughter, Sylvia Antrim, Raytown; two brothers, Everett Moss, Kansas City, and Russell Moss, Independence; two sisters, Ada Mae Woods and Florella Reynolds, both of Independence; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
MARVIE O. SMITH
Marvie Opal Smith, Warrensburg, Mo., died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the Western Missouri Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith was born in Chilhowee, Mo., and she graduated from the Chilhowee High School before attending Warrensburg Normal School (Central Missouri State University). She taught in the rural schools and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Hickory Grove Homemakers Club and was a member of Lady`s Elk and several bridge clubs. She and her husband farmed in the Chilhowee and Warrensburg areas until retirement in early 1980s. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Smith on July 19, 1985.
Her survivors include a daughter, Vivian Brown, Kansas City; a granddaughter, Debbie Swartz, Blue Springs; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.
FREDRICK N. "FRED" EPPERSON
Fredrick Newton "Fred" Epperson, 86, Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Epperson was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Bayfield, Colo., and lived in Durango, Colo., before moving to the Independence area in the 1930s. He worked in various occupations throughout his life, including a salesman, radio/electronic technician, tool and die maker, engineer and vice president of manufacturing. He retired from business management activity in 1976, but continued several home manufacturing endeavors until 1990. He was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as pastor of the Slover Park congregation for five years, during which time he was instrumental in the construction of the present Slover Park church building. In his later years, he served as a marriage and family counselor for the Center Stake of the RLDS church. He graduated from high school in 1928 in Durango and established a record for the mile run in track.
His survivors include his wife of 62 years, Frances Louise Tankard Epperson of the home; four children, Arlin Frederick Epperson, Columbia, Mo., Sharon Epperson Spease, Independence, Merle Westley Epperson, Baytown, Texas, and Melvin Douglas Epperson, Cincinnati; two sisters, Helen Thomas and Dorthy Casteel, both of Independence; three brothers, Robert Epperson and Joseph Oliver Epperson, both of Kansas City, and Frank Epperson, Farmington, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.
JOHN D. KELLEY
John David Kelley, 82, Independence, died Tuesday, May 19, 1998.
Mr. Kelley was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Carroll County, Mo. He worked for Armco Steel for 33 years, retiring in 1972.
His survivors include his wife, Dorthy Kelley; two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Gabriel, and Patricia Kelley; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions in his memory to the American Lung Association.
JoANN MANN
JoAnn Mann, 55, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Mann was born Feb. 7, 1943, in Flemington, Mo., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a claims supervisor for the Lewer Insurance Agency.
Her survivors include her children, Stephani Samborski, Lathrop, Mo., Shannon Mann, Kearney, Mo., and Erik Mann, Independence; five sisters, Wilma Thomas, Kansas City, Bonnie McAllister, Independence, Wanda Robertson, Raytown, Della Young, Lathrop, and Lona Shaw, Bolivar, Mo.; four grandchildren, Shelby, Kody, Levi and Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
WAUNITA D. SNYDER
Waunita Delaine Snyder, 74, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Snyder was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Moran, Kan. She was co-owner of Snyder Insurance. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blue Springs, and had taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of the Blue Springs Auxiliary Police Wives and was past president of the Blue Springs Civic Club.
Her survivors include her husband, Don Q. Snyder of the home; a daughter, Donita K. Dust, Bettendorf, Iowa; two sons, Gailen Snyder, Lee's Summit, and James R. Snyder, Blue Springs; and grandchildren, Matthew and Cara Snyder, Britton and Brian Snyder, and Alex and Andrew Dust.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
VELVA J. FISH
Velva J. Fish, 94, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.
Mrs. Fish was born April 12, 1904, in Lamoni, Iowa, and lived in Colorado and Montana before moving to Holden, Mo., in 1914. She moved to Independence in 1922. She was a bookkeeper for the American Baptist Publication Society of Kansas City for approximately 15 years. She then worked for the Mercantile Bank & Trust Co. of Kansas City for seven years, retiring in 1969. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and attended the Walnut Park RLDS congregation. Her husband, Frederick Fish, died Feb. 23, 1991.
Her survivors include a son, Charles F. Fish of Grain Valley; three grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
LESTER E. SCHUSTER
Lester Ellis Schuster, 93, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Camden Health Center, Harrisonville, Mo.
Mr. Schuster was born April 21, 1905, in Polo, Mo., and had lived in Independence, Gallatin, Mo., and Tina, Mo., before spending the last 34 years at the health center. He was a retired member of IBEW 124 and was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, Independence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel May Stagner Schuster, and a great-grandson, Zakkery Evans.
His survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin Lee and Marie Schuster, Independence, and Larry Eugene and Deanna Schuster, Harrisonville, Mo.; two half brothers, Sterling Schuster, Napa, Calif., and Richard Schuster, Nairobi, Kenya; two half sisters, Dollie Taylor, San Leandro, Calif., Jean Clark Atchison, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George C. Carson's Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Avalon (Mo.) cemetery.
MARVIN T. SIMMERMAN
Marvin Temple Simmerman, 80, Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Nevada (Mo.) Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Simmerman was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Lexington, Mo. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the parts department of Allis Chambers Co., Independence. Following retirement, he moved to Schell City, Mo., before moving to Fort Scott in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Arlene Villers Simmerman on Feb. 7, 1997.
His survivors include a daughter, Carol Arnold, Fort Scott; a son, Robert T. Simmerman, Hampton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. 66701.
AGUEDA G. DEGUZMAN
Agueda G. Deguzman, 84, Blue Springs, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital.
Mrs. Deguzman was born Feb. 5, 1914, in San Manuel, Phillipines. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eutiquio Landayan in 1992.
Her survivors include her two sons, Fernadno Landayan, Gaithersburg, Md., and Jaime Landayan, Blue Springs; two daughters, Amelia P. Carino and Lita L. Hungriano, both of Blue Springs; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
JOHN T. "J.T." HUDDLESTON
John T. "J.T." Huddleston, 59, Independence, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Huddleston was born Jan. 20, 1939, in West Plains, Mo. He was a truck driver for Quality Sand and Material for 32 years, retiring in 1993. He had been a member of the Liberty Church of the Nazarene for more than 25 years, and was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary and served on the church board.
His survivors include his wife, Rosetta L. Huddleston of the home; a son, John Huddleston, Kansas City; a daughter, Shellie Huddleston, Springdale, Ark.; one brother, James Huddleston, Indepencence; one sister, Susan Pettker, St. Charles, Mo.; one granddaughter, Ashlee Huddleston, and a godchild, Chelsie Nicole Huddleston.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fry Funeral Home, Kearney. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Kearney. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
BERNARD MARTIN
Bernard Martin, 86, Lake Lotawana, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Research Hospital.
Mr. Martin graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1931. He studied at the Moran Art School in Kansas City and later studied under Thomas Hart Benton at the Kansas City Art Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He and his brother, Bill, formed the Tell-Well Press to publish children`s books which they wrote and illustrated. After selling the press in 1951, he wrote and illustrated nature features for the Sunday magazines of the country`s leading newspapers, including The Kansas City Star.
Since 1972, he has published prints of his wildlife song and game bird paintings. His works have been entered and sold in many wildlife art shows across the country. He had also donated pieces of art work to many wildlife conservation organizations for fund raising.
His survivors include his wife, Maxine Martin; three brothers, Glen, Kansas City North, Bill, Commerce, Texas, and Bob, Herington, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lake Lotawana Methodist Church, with visitation and lunch following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Lake Lotawana Methodist Church, 28901 E. Colbern Road, Lee`s Summit, or to the First Christian Church, 201 South Sixth, Hiawatha, Kan. 66434.
THOMAS R. TIPTON
Thomas Richard Tipton, 59, Bates City, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Tipton was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Toltec, Ark. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a plater of circuit and microchips for Allied Signal for 16 years and had worked at Vendo for 17 years. He was a member of the National Association of Aerospace Workers.
His survivors include his wife, Judy Kay Tipton of the home; a son, Randall Tipton, Maysville, Mo.; a daughter, Tomma June Worth, Stanbury, Mo.; a brother, Raymond Patterson Tipton, Kansas City; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg, Mo. Burial will be in Knob Noster (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
EVERETT L. WOODRING
Everett Lee Woodring, 83, Blue Springs, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Woodring was born March 31, 1915, in Lone Tree, Mo., and had lived in Denver, Colo. He was a rancher and a carpenter in Colorado before returning to Missouri.
His survivors include his brother, Ernest Woodring, LaJunta, Colo.; four sisters, Wilma Wills, Denver, Thelma Stancer and Faye Steele, both of Fort Scott, Kan., and Fern Keele, Lee`s Summit; 11 nephews; five nieces; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.
