HERMAN C. NAUGLE
Herman C. Naugle, 69, Independence, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Naugle was born July 23, 1928, in Rockbridge, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 11 years. He was a self-employed tool and die maker before he retired. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ava, Mo., and served in the Army from 1946 to 1947.
His survivors include his wife, Sharlene F. Naugle, and two sons, Kevin I. Naugle and Kelly J. Naugle, all of Independence; a brother, O.W. Naugle, Mansfield, Mo.; a sister, Coeata Fry, Seymour, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.
HAROLD PARKES
Harold Parkes, 92, Independence, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Parkes was born Jan. 20, 1906, in Centertown, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1941. He was a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of the Railway Mail Accident Benefit Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member and deacon of Maywood Baptist Church. His wife, Veda G. Parkes, died in 1991.
His survivors include four sons, Kenneth Parkes, Parkville, Mo., Larry Parkes, Phoenix, Ariz., Roger Parkes, Lee`s Summit, and David Parkes, Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Maurine Bolin, California, Mo., Mildred Crum, Lincoln, Neb., and Velma Parkes, Alton, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the California (Mo.) City cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
LeROY STAPLETON
LeRoy Stapleton, 91, Windsor, Mo., died Monday, June 8, 1998, in Windsor.
Mr. Stapleton was born March 25, 1907, in Lexington, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a checker for P.I.E. truck lines for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Oak Grove Restoration Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Stapleton in 1984, and a son, Danny Ray Stapleton in 1998.
His survivors include a son, Robert Stapleton, Milan, Mich.; two daughters, Beverly Aker, Windsor, and Joyce Barton, Lee`s Summit; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
HAZEL E. THOMAS
Hazel Esther Thomas, 89, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.
Mrs. Thomas was born Jan. 30, 1909, Mendon, Mo.
Her survivors include two daughters, Jean Lalone, Laurie, Mo., and Patricia Broderick, Mesa, Ariz.; and six grandchildren, Patricia Elliott, Kathleen Pruente, Thomas Grotjan, Deborah Briggs, Beth Paschal and Robert B. Tietjen.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Menden. Inurnment will be in Mendon cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home.
HERBERT R. WAIT
Herbert Rolland Wait, 70, Kansas City, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Wait was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Muskogee, Okla. He retired on Aug. 7, 1992, from the Kansas City Fire Department after 374 years of service. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by three sons, David Lee, Dale Lee and Mark Lee.
His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marjorie June Wait of the home; two sons, Herbert Michael Wait, Raytown, and Gary Lee Wait, Kansas City; two daughters, Linda Lee Wait and Jamie Anne Swinney, both of the home; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Marlene Wait, Kansas City; two brothers, Wesley Wait and George Wait, and a sister, Rose Marie Belcher, all of Muskogee; and a grandson, Michael Daniel Wait.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. JIMMY J. BROWN
Jimmy J. Brown, 74, Independence, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Brown was born Dec. 31, 1924, in El Dorado Springs, Mo. He retired from Montgomery Wards in 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. His wife, Martha Jane Brown, died Jan. 13, 1996.
His survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, J. Steven and Jayne Brown, and Kevin Lynn Brown, all of Lee's Summit; three grandchildren, Jason S. Brown, Kendrick Lynn Brown and Jamie A. Brown; and one brother, Kenneth Brown, Kansas City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
PATTY L. SWEETLAND
Patty L. Sweetland, 69, Independence, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Sweetland was born Sept. 27, 1929, in West Point, Neb., and had lived in Independence since 1956. She was active at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church and the PTA. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Sweetland in 1989.
Her survivors include her husband, Robert I. Sweetland of the home; two sons, Monty R. Sweetland, Independence, and Stuart M. Sweetland, Blue Springs; one daughter, Peggy Jackson, Kansas City; one sister, Jean Lubbert, West Point; and one grandson.

FLOYD M. WARR
Floyd M. Warr, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Warr was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in Independence since 1925. He had lived in the Truman Historic District for more than 50 years. He was a 1941 graduate of William Chrisman High School. He had worked for several area savings and loan institutions as assistant vice president of Blue Valley Savings and Loan Association, and retired from the Home Savings Association in 1973, having been a branch manager at several locations. His first employment was as a master mechanic for Trans World Airlines and Mid Continent Airline. Other jobs included Addressograph-Multigraph, Western Adjustment and Inspection Co., and Herald Publishing House. As a high school youth, he worked as a delivery boy for several drug stores, including Childer's Prescription Shop, and later did special deliveries for the Independence Post Office. He served as a member of the Independence Planning and Zoning Commission for three years, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His wife of 52 years, Dorsy Lou Compton Warr, died in 1995.
His survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Brian L. and Helen Warr, and a daughter, Roxanne War Brennan, and her husband, Robert, all of Independence; four grandchildren, Katherine Anne and Cammie Allison Brennan, both of Independence, Scott Edward Bollinger, Parkville, Mo., and Buffie Lynn Cooley, Kansas City; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Bollinger and Hallie Cooley; and two sisters, Edna Beck, Kansas City, and Judy McRoberts, Overland Park, Kan.
Private graveside services will be held at Woodlawn cemetery. A celebration of life service in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Warr will be held at a later date, with the date and location to be announced. LEBERT B. ALLEY
Lebert Bruce Alley, 87, Independence, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Alley was born April 15, 1912, in Ponca City, Okla., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was an electrician for the Amoco Sugar Creek Refinery for 39 years, retiring in 1974.
His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Geraldine A. Alley of the home; two sons, Don B. Alley, Kansas City, and Lee R. Alley, Independence; two sisters, Blanche Engelman, Independence, and Ruth Parsons, Raytown; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.
CHRISTINA M. SHIPLEY
Christina Marie Shipley, 30, Independence, died Saturday, July 10, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Shipley was born Feb. 2, 1969, in Kansas City. She was a 1987 graduate of Fort Osage High School and a 1992 graduate of Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. She was a teacher at Cler-Mont Elementary School, and a member of the Good Shepherd Christian Church and MSTA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Angela Kathleen Ault, and her grandparents, James and Vera Ault, and Doris Virginia Horton.
Her survivors include her husband of seven years, Jeff Shipley, and a daughter, Alexandra Shipley, both of the home; her parents, James and Linda Ault, Independence; one brother, Todd Ault, and her maternal grandfather, Robert J. Bose, both of Lee's Summit; and maternal great-grandmother, Frances Wiebeck, Independence.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, 111 Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. MICHAEL D. STRUTTON
Michael D. Strutton, 32, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Strutton was born Jan. 31, 1967, in Independence. He worked in the maintenance department for the U.S. Postal Service, and was a Navy veteran.
His survivors include his father and stepmother, Albert L. and Judy A. Strutton, his mother, Beverly A. Biswell, three sisters, Tabetha E. Strutton, Monica M. Strutton and Jacinda N. Strutton, and one stepsister, Tammy D. Smith, all of Independence; and his grandfather, Warren D. Biswell, Buckner.
Services were today at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial was in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
REV. ROGER W. STEENROD
Rev. Roger W. Steenrod, 58, Lockwood, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at his home.
Rev. Steenrod, was born June 20, 1940, in Kansas City. He was a Van Horn High School graduate. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1975 from Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Mo., and his master's degree in 1978 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He continued his education with earning a Doctor of Ministry magna cum laude in 1987 and a Doctor of Philosophy magna cum laude in 1989. He became a deacon in 1971 at the First Baptist Church of Lee's Summit, where he was licensed to preach in 1973 and then ordained in 1975. He had served many churches and families in his years as a minister. He was a member of Lockwood First Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Kathy Steenrod of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and the Rev. Russell Johnson, Marshall, Mo., and Robin Kay and Michael Bridge, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his parents, Francis M. and Vesta K. (Norris) Steenrod, Greenfield; two sisters, Nancy J. Dodd, Topeka, Kan., and Kathleen A. Lyday, Highridge, Mo.; four grandchildren, Braden J. Johnson, Ariel A. Johnson, Levi W. Bridge and Jennifer D. Bridge.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lockwood First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lockwood cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Southwest Missouri. Services are under the direction of the Lockwood (Mo.) Funeral Chapel.
DENNIS A. MILLER
Dennis Arthur Miller, 48, Ozark, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at St. Louis University Hospital.
Mr. Miller was born Feb. 21, 1950. He was a former Eagle Scout and member of the Malibu's. He was a 1968 graduate of Van Horn High School. He earned his bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees from Southwest Missouri University. He joined the teaching staff of Ozark High School in 1973 and had been a coach, counselor, high school principal and was currently the Director of Special Services for the Ozark School District.
His survivors include his wife, Karen Miller, a son, Cole, and a daughter, Perry, all of Ozark; his mother, Alice Miller, Independence; two sisters, Cindy Vernon, Lee's Summit, and Tammy Andrew, Joplin, Mo.; two brothers, Terry Miller, Overland Park, Kan., and Larry Miller, Westwood, Kan.; eight nephews; and six nieces.
A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ozark High School Gym; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Dennis Miller Memorial Fund at Ozark Schools, P.O. Box 166, Ozark, Mo. 65721, or to the Leukemia Society of America. Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.
JAMES PARKER
James Parker, 81, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at Horton (Kan.) Rural Health Clinic.
Mr. Parker was born Jan. 9, 1917, in Blue Springs. He and his wife, Charline Parker, were the former owners of Parkers General Store and Locker Plant in Lone Jack, Mo. He was a World War II Army veteran with four Bronze Stars. He was a past member of the Lone Jack School Board. He also served on the board to incorporate the city of Lone Jack. He was a charter member of the Lone Jack Lions and Civic clubs. He was a 4-H leader, a member of American Legion Post 499, Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Charline Parker of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Eaval Spencer, Buffalo, Mo.; a stepson; three brothers, Robert H. Parker, Vernon Ted Parker and John Parker, two sisters, Ruth McBride and Julia Hawes, all of Blue Springs; several nieces and nephew; a grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Interment will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lone Jack Baptist Church.
GLENA J. BURTON
Glena J. Burton, 65, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Burton was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker.
Her survivors include two sons, Kenneth M. Jeffries, Independence, and Mark A. Jeffries, Kansas City; a daughter, Cheryl A. Hays, Kansas City; two brothers, Vernon Cole, Kansas City, and Virgil Cole, Lee's Summit; three sisters, Bessie Hicks, Oak Grove, Opal Fothergill, Independence, and Nina Yocum, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ROBERT J. HENRICKSEN
Robert J. Henricksen, 79, Lake Tapawingo, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Henricksen was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Duluth, Minn. He was an architect and was the owner/operator of the Henricksen Construction Corp. He was a Christian by faith, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 499. He was also a mebmer of the Lake Tapawingo Sportsmens Club.
His survivors include his wife, Jane Henricksen of the home; a daughter, Connie Christenson, Henderson, Nev.; one grandson, Robert P. Morris, Overland Park, Kan.; and three great-grandchildren.
