WILLIAM R. "BILL" PAYNE

William R. "Bill" Payne, 93, St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at Beverly Manor, St. Joseph.

Mr. Payne was born Sept. 30, 1904, in Independence. He had also lived in Independence from 1990 to 1993, and Lebanon, Mo., from 1993 to 1997; until moving to St. Joseph in 1997. He was a standing engineer for the City of Independence Power and Light for 38 years, retiring in 1975. He was a Christian. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mary Sheer Payne.

His survivors include a stepdaughter, DoLores Hadley, Independence; four stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Odessa cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home.

MABEL L. SPILLMAN

Mabel Lillie Spillman, 96, Independence, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Spillman was born Oct. 7, 1910, in St. Joseph, Mo. She had lived in this area for the past 30 years. She had been employed as a travel agent at Carpentours Inc. She was a member of the Golden Age Club, Heritage Club, NARFE, American Association of Retired Persons, and the Professional Business Women`s Association. She was the Liahona House Mother for 13 years at the University of Missouri, Columbia. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and attended the RLDS Stone Church.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank L. and Jean Spillman, Honolulu, Hawaii; three grandsons, Les Howell, Winston Howell and Frank J. Spillman; three granddaughters, Virginia Mikuckis, Sylvia Farias and Jeanette Pocan; four great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence. The family suggests contributions to The Groves Endowment Fund.

JULIUS "RYAN" JORDAHL

Julius "Ryan" Jordahl, 17, Oak Grove, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999.

Ryan was born May 23, 1981, in Kansas City, and lived in Independence until moving to Oak Grove seven years ago. He was a senior at Oak Grove R-VI High School, and was a member of the Central Assembly of God in Raytown. He worked for Joker`s Playhouse Pizza & Pub in Oak Grove.

His survivors include his parents, Eric and Deborah Jordahl, and one brother, Joshua Jordahl, all of the home; two sisters, Jackie Prater, Blue Springs, and Jessica Nunn, Oak Grove; paternal grandparents, Halvor and Marie Jordahl, Kansas City; and his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Rita Nunley, Martinsville, Va.

Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home.

DOROTHY M. CRUMPTON

Dorothy May Crumpton, 61, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at her home.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

JOHN B. CLUTTER

John Burton Clutter, 63, Independence, died Monday, March31, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Clutter was born June 17, 1933, in Oxford, Mo., and had lived in Independence for the past 20 years. He was a certified welder and had owned John`s Machine in Independence since 1979. He was a member of the Good Sam Club and the National Rifle Association.

His survivors include hiswife, Miriam Clutter of the home; two sons, Sanford Clutter, Kellerton, Iowa, and Sherwin Clutter, Aurora, Ill.; two daughters, Susan Bone, Carrollton, Texas, and Shelley Clutter, Independence; one brother, Louis Clutter, Gold Hill, Ore.; two sisters, Angela Goates, Lehi, Utah, and Joyce McAlister Polito, Pueblo, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Athelstan (Iowa) cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas CityHospice.

KENNETH E. DIXON

Kenneth E. Dixon, 33, Pleasant Valley, Mo., died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Truman Medical Center.

Mr. Dixon was born March24, 1964, in Kansas City and lived in Independence most of his life, moving toPleasant Valley two years ago. He attended Van Horn High School and Penn Valley Community College. He was secretary, treasurer and a member of The Dream is Alive Inc., a non-profit corporation working with terminally ill, handicapped and abused children.

His survivors include his parents, Carol Dixon, Independence, and Deva Dixon, Texas; a brother, Keith Dixon, Independence; a half sister, Amanda Gaspard, and a half brother, Brian Dixon, both of Texas; and his maternal grandmother, Helen Sams, Warsaw, Mo.

Cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Independence Chapel.

GOLDIE M. ENNIS

Goldie Mary Ennis, 80, Independence, died Monday, March 31, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Ennis was born April 14, 1916, in Burden, Kan., and lived in Mineral Springs before moving to Independence. She was a member of Carlisle Baptist Church and the Fairmount Senior Citizens Group. Shemade corsages and distributed them to area nursing homes. Her husband, Henry Ralph Ennis, died in 1970.

Her survivors include four daughters, Barbara Warren, Exeter, Mo., Mary Lowe, Cassville, Mo., Carol Parscale, Independence, and Terry Lynn Scofield, Bon Scarbo, Colo.; one son, Rodney Dale Ennis of the home;seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m.Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial willbe in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m.Wednesday at the chapel.

PHILIP M. HININGER SR.

Philip M. Hininger Sr., 81, Independence, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Hininger was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Independence. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and attended William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., and the University of Kansas, Lawrence. During college he purchased the Wright Oil Co. and owned and operated the Moore Oil Co. for the next 30years. He retired in 1970, but continued to oversee various real estate investments in the area. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was stationed at the submarine base in New London, Conn. He was a member of the Independence Chamber of Commerce. His family donated the land that became Moore Park on U.S. 24and in 1954, gave approval for the property to become the site for the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library. He was preceded in death by a son, Philip M. Hininger Jr. in 1992.

His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Elinor Hininger of the home; two daughters, Sharon Decker, Charleston, S.C., and Mary L. Hininger Bukaty, Kansas City; six grandchildren, Kent Decker, David Decker, John Decker, Phil Hininger III, Nikki Hininger and Jessica Bukaty.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society -- Mid America Chapter. Arrangementsare under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.

MARY E. LYONS

Mary E.Lyons, 92, Independence, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at Columbia IndependenceRegional Health Center.

Mrs. Lyons was born in Rich Hill, Mo., and lived in Butler, Mo., most of her life. She retired from Meyer Optical Co. in Kansas City in 1973. She was a Presbyterian and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Her husband, Harold D. Lyons, died in 1959.

Her survivors include one daughter, Norma "Deanie" Shull, Independence; one sister, Mabel Bowles, Butler; five grandchildren, James Shull, Odessa, Robert Shull, Hayesville, Kan., StephenShull, Lee`s Summit, and Mary Jo Taylor and Lisa Passantino, both of Independence; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Butler.

ORNEVA R. RUSSELL

Orneva R. Russell, 87, Independence, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Independence Manor Care Center.

Ms. Russell was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Texas.She was an artist and also worked as a medical and legal secretary. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Her survivors include two sisters, Violet Rowley, Garden Grove, Calif., and Lucille Peterson, Rosebury, Ore.; and many niecesand nephews.

Cremation. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association. Arrangements were under the direction of the George C. Carson& Sons Independence Chapel.

ROXIE H. COLLEY

Roxie H. Colley, 91, Independence, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at her home.

Mrs. Colley was born March 19, 1906, in Keytesville, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1949. She was a secretary for National Bellas Hess for 30 years, retiring in 1968. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Colley in 1988, and a daughter, Dorothy Benefiel in 1963.

Her survivors include two granddaughters, Michelle Beard, Grandview, and Janet Staugaard, Kimberling City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m.Saturday at Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

FRATIE MITCHELL

Fratie Mitchell, 100, Independence, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Aug. 9, 1896, near Quincy, Mo., and lived in Glendale, Ariz., before moving back to Missouri in 1976. She had lived in Independence for the past 16 years. She was a member of the Noland Road Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Mitchell, infant son, Howard, a great-granddaughter, Dawn Karr, and her brother Lowell Bernard.

Her survivors include five children, Stanley Mitchell, Quincy, James Dallas Mitchell, Betty Logan Houtchens and Monte R. Mitchell, all of Independence, and Bonnie Stevens, Bloomfield, N.J.; two sisters, Jewell Hammond, Bolivar, Mo., and Zelma Walker, Lee`s Summit; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home, Wheatland, Mo. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

PATSY R. KIRBY

Patsy R. Kirby, 51, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Patsy was born in Kansas City and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a hairdresser for more than 30 years in the Independence area, and was recently employed at Station Casino. She attended the Sheffield Family Life Center.

Her survivors include two sons, Michael Brown, Kansas City, and Jerry Kirby, Independence; her father, Harvey Sparks Sr., Kansas City; two brothers, Harvey W. Sparks Jr., North Kansas City, and Howard Sparks, Verona, Wis.; a sister, Virginia D. Pool, Independence; three stepgrandchildren; several half brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Calvary cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

GUY M. JULIANA SR.

Guy Michael Juliana Sr., 82, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Juliana was born April 26, 1916, in Mulberry, Kan. As a youth he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Camp and worked in the Colorado area. He farmed for several years in Arkansas during the 1930s. After moving to Kansas City, he was active as a Boy Scout master. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jeus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was a Priesthood member, serving in the office of teacher. He attended the Walnut Park Congregation.

His survivors include his wife, Alice Juliana of the home; four sons, Guy Juliana Jr., Independence, Peter Juliana, Canyon Country, Calif., Larry Juliana, Independence; Aughtie Juliana, St. Peters, Mo.; a brother, Arthur Juliana, Farmers Branch, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

EDITH M. KING

Edith Marie King, 78, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at the Rosewood Care Center.

Mrs. King was born March 28, 1920, in Loomis, Mich., and had lived in Independence since 1989. She was a member of the Atherton Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne King in 1995.

Her survivors include her husband, F. William King of the home; three daughters, Marilyn Lewis, Lawrenceville, Ga., Joy Huff, Parkville, Mo., and Carolyn Baumann, Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Robert Burton, Brimley, Mich.; one sister, Arlene Townsend, Loomis; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

CHARLES D. LUNDBERG

Charles David Lundberg, 93, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999.

Mr. Lundberg was born Dec. 10, 1905, in Norton, Kan., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was retired from Benson Manufacturing Co., and a member of the Pittman Road Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Lundberg on April 6, 1995.

His survivors include one son, David E. Lundberg, Independence; two daughters, Shirley J. Harris, Blue Springs, and Judy Michon, Houston; and two grandsons, Charles L. Harris, Independence, and Richard A. Harris, Oak Grove.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
