ALLEN W. SMITH
Allen Wayne Smith, 36, Odessa, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at Truman Medical Center, Kansas City.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 21, 1960, in Clinton, Mo., and had lived in northeast Kansas City before moving to Odessa 12 years ago. He was a laborer. He was a Baptist.
His survivors include his wife, Linnie Smith of the home; a stepson, Andrew James Silvers, and a stepdaughter, Angela Lynn Silvers, both of Odessa; his parents, Gary S. Smith and Doris Smith, both of Odessa; a brother, Gary L. Smith, Odessa; a niece, Amber Smith; and a nephew, Kyle Smith, both of Odessa.
Private memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Gary Smith.
MILDRED A. GILL
Mildred A. VanSickle Gill, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the Park Place Care Center in Raytown.
Mrs. Gill was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Macon, Mo., and had lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was employed by Dr. A.R. Robinson for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and worked in various church groups.
Her survivors include her husband, Carl Gill of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Carl Brennaman Jr., Kansas City; a son, Larry Van Sickle, San Diego, Calif.; a grandson, Andrew Brennaman, Kansas City; and two sisters, Mary Seeds, Reno, Nev., and Martha Binder, Morris, Ill.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 4900 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
MELBA F. HANKINS
Melba Frances Hankins, 89, Stanton, Neb., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk, Neb.
Mrs. Hankins was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Ashland, Neb., and had lived in Sargent, Lexington and Wayne, all in Nebraska, before moving to Stanton in 1940. She was a member of the New England Congregational Church, Stanton. She was preceded in death by three grandsons.
Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, M.J. Hankins, Stanton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and James Ballantyne, Independence, and Mary and Ronald Wolff, Stanton; grandchildren, Nancy and David Taylor, Laura and Jeff Hankins, John Ballantyne and Joy and Rick Colwell; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were today at the New England Congregational Church, Stanton. Interment was in Stanton cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary, Stanton.
CARLTON F. PAWSEY
Carlton F. Pawsey, 90, Hamilton, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at a nursing home in Hamilton.
Mr. Pawsey was born Feb. 6, 1908, in Hamilton and had lived most of his life in Hamilton. He had been employed by WPA, Johnson Construction Co., and Lake City Arsenal.
His survivors include his wife, Juanita Pawsey, Hamilton; two sons, Rex Pawsey, Independence, and Bill Pawsey, Dallas, Texas.; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services were Saturday at the Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton. Burial was in Highland cemetery, Hamilton.
LESTER E. SCHUSTER
Lester Ellis Schuster, 93, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Camden Health Center, Harrisonville, Mo.
Mr. Schuster was born April 21, 1905, in Polo, Mo., and had lived in Independence, Gallatin, Mo., and Tina, Mo., before spending the last 34 years at the health center. He was a retired member of IBEW 124 and was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, Independence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel May Stagner Schuster, and a great-grandson, Zakkery Evans.
His survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin Lee and Marie Schuster, Independence, and Larry Eugene and Deanna Schuster, Harrisonville, Mo.; two half brothers, Sterling Schuster, Napa, Calif., and Richard Schuster, Nairobi, Kenya; two half sisters, Dollie Taylor, San Leandro, Calif., Jean Clark, Atchison, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George C. Carson's Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Avalon (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the chapel.
MANFORD SPICER JR.
Manford Spicer Jr., 82, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Spicer was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Kansas City. He received his early education in the Kansas City Missouri Public School District. He attended Englewood Assembly of God. He had been employed with Antoine Seed Co. as a grounds keeper and had also worked in the maintenance department for the Bank of Independence and retired after many years of service.
His survivors include a friend, James Lyke, Independence; and a host of many friends.
Graveside services were today at Mound Grove cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel.
VIVIAN B. ANDREA
Vivan B. Andrea, 82, Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at her home. Mrs. Andrea was born July 19, 1915, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Independence the past 15 years. She was a practical nurse for more than 20 years.
Her survivors include a daughter, Serena Olah, Independence; a brother, L.V. Porter, Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Cremation. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.
CLARENCE L.D. CRABTREE
Clarence Leland Derice Crabtree, 88, Independence, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Crabtree had lived in the Leeton and Chilhowee, Missouri, areas most of his life, moving to Independence more than 1 year and 8 months ago. He was a farmer and a member of the Holden (Mo.) RLDS congregation. His wife, Doris Irene Dennison Crabtree, died Feb. 18, 1994.
His survivors include two sons, Delbert Crabtree, Warrensburg, Mo., and Raymond Crabtree, Parkville, Mo.; two daughters, Patricia Baughman, Independence, and Rosalee Cunningham, Chilhowee; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mineral Creek cemetery, Leeton. Friends maycall from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. The family suggests contributions to the Rosewood Care Center in Independence.
GLADYS P. EICHENBERGER
Gladys P. Eichenberger, 85, Raytown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Eichenberger was born March 27, 1912, in Denison, Texas, and had lived in this area most of her life. She moved to Raytown one year ago. She was an inspector at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 33 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, chapter member of Lodge 329 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Independence. She was also a member of Assembly of 150 Beauceants, Royal Arch Widow and the Beau Knot Sunday School class of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. George Eichenberger Sr. in 1971, and a son, H. George Eichenberger Jr., and a daughter, Ruth M. Townley, both in 1995.
Her survivors include two daughters, Margaret Hawkins, Gravois Mills, Mo., and Mary Luppens, Independence; a son, Harvey Townley, Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, where Eastern Star services will beheld at 7 p.m.
BILLY G. LAUGHLIN
Billy G. Laughlin, 63, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Laughlin was born March 19, 1934, in New Madrid, Mo. He worked for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1988, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Betty Laughlin of the home; a daughter, Vicky Henson, Blue Springs; a son, Randy Laughlin, Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Jimmy L. Laughlin, Columbia, Mo., and Wayne J. Laughlin, O`Fallon, Mo.; four sisters, Betty Bosert, St. Charles, Mo., and Mildred Cain, Bonnie Merrett and Karen Williams, all of Eldon, Mo.; four granddaughters, Vanessa Callaghan, Deret Laughlin, Madison Laughlin and Sydney Laughlin.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
KARL W. MORGENROTH
Karl W. Morgenroth, 72, Kansas City, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Morgenroth was born April 5, 1925, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 33 years, and was an Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Donna Morgenroth of the home; two sons, Kurt William Morgenroth and Karl Wendell Morgenroth; a daughter, Rena Marie Morgenroth; two brothers, Max Morgenroth, California, and Paul Morgenroth, Grain Valley; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation, with private burial in Forest Hill cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to Baptist Home Services, 6700 Troost, Suite 10, Kansas City, Mo. 64131. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carson & Sons Blue Ridge Chapel.
PAUL J. POLLARD SR.
Paul Joseph Pollard Sr., 60, Richmond, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Liberty Hospital.
Mr. Pollard was born Feb. 5, 1938, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a lance corporal in the Marine Corps, serving in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1962. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
His survivors include his wife of 38 years, Judy Pollard of the home; two sons, Paul Pollard Jr., Blue Springs, and Walter Pollard, Independence; two daughters, Shirley Pollard, Buckner, and Donna Treas, Kansas; a brother, Leland Pollard, Lee`s Summit; two sisters, Ruby South Independence, and Judy Richardson, Kansas; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
RAYMOND J. SCHELP
Raymond John Schelp, 82, Lamar, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at Barton County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Schelp was born March 4, 1915, in Emma, Mo., and lived in Independence before moving to Lamar nine years ago. He worked for 18 years at the International ShoeCo. in Marshall, Mo., and retired after working 30 years at Tension Envelope Co. in Kansas City. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Lamar Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3691. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Debolt Lodge 515 and the Elks Club, all in Lamar. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Elsie Hemme Schelp in 1975 and Thelma Dumm Schelp in 1996.
His survivors include a brother, Norbert Schelp, Biloxi, Miss.; and one sister, Wilma Schelp Brady, Pearl River, La.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lohmeyer-Konantaz Chapel, Lamar. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Marshall. Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
JONATHAN C. SNOWDEN
Johnathan Clay Snowden, 43, Kearney, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998.
Mr. Snowden was born July 28, 1954, in Rich Hill, Mo. He was a member of Northern Hills Baptist Church, Holt, Mo., and an art education student at William Jewell College, Liberty.
His survivors include his wife, Diana, two sons, Jason and Jeremy, and a daughter, Jaime, allof the home; his parents, H. Clay and C. Beth Snowden, Independence; grandparents, Carroll and Darlene Snowden, Highlandville, Mo.; a sister, B. Carol Hensley, Raytown; and two brothers, Lyndell Snowden, Lee`s Summit, and W. Glenn Snowden, Kansas City.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Glenridge cemetery, Liberty. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Education Fund at the Farmland Credit Union.
HOLLIS J. VERMILLION
Hollis Jean Vermillion, 45, Belton, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at the Grandview Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Vermillion was born Dec. 13, 1952, in Adrian, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident.
Her survivors include her parents, George and Winifred Burton, Independence; four brothers, David Burton and Paul Burton, both of Kansas City, Stephen Burton, Mountain View, Calif., and Gary Burton, Independence; and a sister, Melissa Fink, Kansas City.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, followed by a cremation.
STEVEN P. WEHLING
Steven Paul Wehling, 35, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Truman Medical Center.
Mr. Wehling was born Jan. 22, 1963, in Independence, and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a mechanic in the auto repair business, and was a member of the Baptist faith. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lawrence Wehling.
His survivors include four children, Vanessa Wehling, Alyssa Wehling, Rachelle Wehling and Steven P. Wehling II; his former wife, Karen Rude; his mother, Norma Bruce, Sunrise Beach, Mo., formerly of Independence; two grandmothers, Alene Norman and Mable Wehling, both of Independence; four sisters, Donna Jenkins, Palm Springs, Calif., Nancy Sooter and Bobbie Hankins, bothof Independence, and Christel Bruce, Lockport, N.Y.; a brother, Ed Wehling, Independence; nine nieces and one nephew.
