KARA E. SAY
Kara Elizabeth Doty Say, 23, Bates City, formerly of Independence, died Friday, June 26, 1998, in Oak Grove.
Mrs. Say was born Jan. 8, 1975, in Independence. She had been employed with the Quiktrip Corp. in Oak Grove for the past five years, and was recently promoted to management. She was a member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple.
Her survivors include her parents, Clark and Laurie Doty, Bates City; her husband, Matthew Say, Independence; one brother, Troy Doty, Odessa; one sister, Lana Doty, Independence; her paternal grandmother, Virginia Doty, Kansas City; and her maternal grandfather, Lloyd Lightfoot, Oak Grove.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
FLORENCE E. SWOGAR
Florence Estella Swogar, 95, Wann, Okla., died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at her daughter`s home.
Her survivors include one son, James C. Swogar, Paola, Kan.; three daughters, Bonnie Brown, Osawatomie, Kan., Loretta Tatum, Wann, and Shirley Cole, LeRoy, Kan.; 29 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home, Paola. Burial will be in Wagstaff cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
JOE E. TOPI
Joe E. Topi, 79, Sugar Creek, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Topi was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Sugar Creek, and was a lifelong resident. He attended Sugar Creek School and was a graduate of Northeast High School. He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, where he worked throughout Missouri. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was honorably discharged as a technical sergeant of Battery D 127 Field Artiliery, 35th Division. He was a chief operator of Standard Oil Refinery in Sugar Creek, where he was a member of the OCAW Union for 33 years. He was a Scoutmaster and assistant district commissioner in the Boy Scouts of America, where he worked with youth for more than 30 years. He attained the rank of Sachem in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and also earned the Wood Badge Award. He was a lifelong member of St. Cyril`s Catholic Church, where he was a eucharistic minister, and a member of the Jednota, the First Slovak Catholic Union. He was also a member of the American Legion, Conboy-Nichols Post 340 and the Amoco Oil Refinery Retirees` Club.
His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Frey Topi of the home; five sons, Stephen E. Topi, Sugar Creek, Michael A. Topi, Kearney, Mo., Joseph E. Topi Jr., Blue Springs, John T. Topi, Independence, and Martin A. Topi, Davenport, Iowa; three daughters, Elizabeth S. Pugh, St. Peters, Mo., and Linda L. Heman and Mary Ann Wegener, both of Lee`s Summit; one brother, John A. Topi, Kansas City; 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m.
HENRY W.FINKEMEIER
Henry William Finkemeier, 77, Wellington, Mo., died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Finkemeier was born July 20, 1920, in Wellington and was a lifelong resident of Wellington. He had been a farmer. He was a member of St. Luke`s United Church of Christ, Wellington. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Borgman-Asthoff Post 134 American Legion, Wellington. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
His survivors include his wife, Lorna Finkemeier, Wellington; three sons, Bill Finkemeier, Wellington, Larry Finkemeier, Lee`s Summit, and David Finkemeier, Grain Valley; five daughters, Barbara Castor, Franklin, Wis., Betty Bohrn, Olathe, Kan., Janice Jones, Independence, and Bonnie Koch and Connie Dorsch, both of Lexington; two sisters, Clara Lankford and Hulda Finkemeier, both of Lexington; 16 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke`s United Church of Christ, Wellington. Burial will be in St. Luke`s cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the Wellington-Napoleon R-9 FFA Chapter. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington.
EUGENE C. WEBER
Eugene Clark Weber, 79, Independence, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Weber was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Kansas City, and moved to Independence in 1970. He was a pipe fitter for Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union Local 533. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Cavalry Division and Air Corps. His work sent him to Puerto Rico, Decator, Ala., Canton, Ohio, and mainland China. He attended the First Assembly of God Church, Independence.
His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Georgia Mae Weber of the home; three sons, Michael G. Weber, San Ansel, Mo., Patrick S. Weber, Easton, Pa., and Stephen C. Weber, Taunton, Mass.; a daughter, C. Genelle Sankarsingh, Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Fred Weber, Joplin, Mo., and Don Weber, Higginsville, Mo.; a sister, Mary Schneider, Raytown; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial services will be at 7 tonight at the First Assembly of God Church, 3711 Whitney Court, Independence. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Springs Patient Care Fund, Blue Springs. Arrangements are under the direction of the New Salem Funeral Home.
JOHN F. BORLAND
John F. Borland, 88, Raytown, formerly of Oak Grove, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Independence Health Care Center.
Mr. Borland was born Aug. 20, 1909, in Holden, Mo., and had lived in Independence and Oak Grove before moving to the Hidden Lake Center in Raytown 14 years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a farmer and a member of the Oak Grove American Legion Post 379.
His survivors include his wife, Florence Borland of Blue Springs, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, north of Grain Valley. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
MILFORD M. VOTAW
Milford M. "Bob" Votaw, 81, Oak Grove, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City.
Mr. Votaw was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Dodge City, Okla. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He had been employed as a machinist at Lake City Arsenal for 19 years, retiring on Feb. 24, 1980. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Oak Grove, and the Oak Grove American Legion Post 379.
His survivors include his wife, Reva Votaw of the home; two sons, Rob Votaw and Kevin Votaw, both of Oak Grove; two daughters, Cheryl Hertel, Rochester, Minn., and Lyric Votaw, Oak Grove; a brother, Albert Bussear, Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Oak Grove Little League.
JULIA M. CAYLOR
Julia M. Caylor, 74, Independence, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at the John Knox Village Care Center, Lee`s Summit.
Mrs. Caylor was born July 11, 1923, in Ralston, Okla., and had lived in Independence since 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Assembly of God and Eastside Assembly of God churches. Her husband, Charles E. Caylor, died in January 1998.
Her survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Mae Butcher, Garden City, Mo., and Carol Ruth Lopez, Kansas City; two sons, Carl Ray Caylor, Gladstone, and Calvin LeRoy Caylor, Independence; three brothers, John Junior "J" Vassar, Kearney, Mo., William O. Vassar, Kansas City, and James E. Vassar, Basehor, Kan.; one sister, Mary Ellen Vassar, Buckner, Pa.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Lawson (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel.
JO ANN NEWTON
Jo Ann Newton, 46, Garner, N.C., formerly of Kansas City, died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, N.C.
Mrs. Newton was born June 9, 1952, in Kansas City and had lived in Garner the past nine years.
Her survivors include her husband, Jerry Newton of the home; two sons, Michael Newton and Timothy Newton, both of North Carolina; one daughter, Tina Holloman, Independence; her mother, Alice Staggs, Sibley; three sisters, Shirley Staggs and Bonnie Newport, both of Kansas City, and Helen Rowlett, Sibley; three brothers, Gordon Davis, Kansas City, and Randy Staggs and Howard Staggs, both of Independence; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
JOHNNY PAGE
Johnny Page, 63, Slater, Mo., died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Mr. Page was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Slater, and was a lifelong Slater resident. He was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church and the Missouri and National Cattlemens associations. He was a past member of the board of the Saline County Fair Association, and was chairman of the county Farm Services Agency.
His survivors include his wife, Linda Sellmeyer Page of the home; one son, Mike Page, Slater; four daughters, Susan Peuster, Slater, Jane Chapuis, Louisiana, Mo., Karen Riddle, Jefferson City, and Lori Page, Gilliam, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Edmonds, Independence, and Mary Vane, Peachtree City, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

ARLENE M. BRAGG
Arlene M. Bragg, 64, Independence, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998.
Mrs. Bragg was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Hamilton, Iowa, and had lived in Independence for more than 45 years. She was employed by the State of Missouri Division of Family Services.
Her survivors include two sons, David G. Lawson, Blue Springs, and Dennis J. Lawson, Lee`s Summit; three brothers, Carroll Vespested, Rapid City, S.D., Jerald Jacobson, Galena, Mo., and Virgil Wilcox, Jewell, Iowa; a sister, Doris Rastetter, Jewell; and seven grandchildren.

JACQUELINE E. JENNINGS
Jacqueline E. Jennings, 75, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at her home.
Ms. Jennings was born Dec. 26, 1922. She was a graduate of Central High School, Kansas City. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church, where she was very active. She was a chef.
Her survivors include a brother, Bob Jennings, Peoria, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jennings and Phyllis Jennings; three nephews and a niece.
Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Entombment will be 9 a.m. Monday at Mount Olivet cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home.
MARGARET P. KROECK
Margaret Pauline Kroeck, 82, Odessa, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at the New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.
Mrs. Kroeck was born Oct. 29, 1915, south of Lexington, Mo., and had lived in the Greenton and Mayview communities around Odessa for most of her life. She had been employed by the Lake City Ammunition Plant, Margie`s Cafe in Odessa, and in a garment factory in the mid 1950s in Higginsville, Mo. She was a member of the United Missionary Women at the Greenton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Vernon Kroeck on Feb. 10, 1986.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Rhonda Kroeck, Odessa; a brother, Waller N. "Buck" Small; a sister, Violet J. Payne; three granddaughters, Kiz Collins, Kelly Jennings and Valore Zeller.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Greenton Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. EUGENE M. RESCH
Eugene "Red" Michael Resch, 81, Independence, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Resch was born March 23, 1917, in Richardson County, Nebraska. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in France and Italy in the glider troops. He worked for the Missouri
Pacific Railroad for 40 years in Kansas City, Atchinson, Kan., and Omaha, Neb., before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael William.
His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Lee of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ben Jones, Webb City; two sisters, Betty Bracht and Shirley Bucher, Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Earl Resch, Independence, and Dale Resch, Phoenix, Ariz.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the East 39th Street RLDS Church, Independence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice in care of the Cremation Society of Kansas City, 3100 B South 24th St., Kansas City, Kan. 66106.
JOHN R. BAUER
John R. Bauer, 57, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, July 30, 1998.
Mr. Bauer was born in Independence and had lived in the Lee`s Summit area for the past 20 years. He was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church of Lee`s Summit, and served on the board of trustees. He owned a family printing business, and was a past member of the Rotary Club, Veterans Motor Car Club of American and the K.C. Chuggers. He was a master craftsman, who has restored an 1850s farm home and applied his skills to many building projects at his church. He also restored touring antique auto.
His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Brenda; a daughter, Kathy Bauer; his mother, Evelyn Bauer; two sisters, Judy Shelton and Linda Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit. Burial will be in the Lee`s Summit Historical cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. AUSTIN D. D. WEAKLEY
Austin Douglas Dean Weakley, the infant son of Douglas and Kimberly Weakley of Lee's Summit, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.
He is survived by a brother, Timothy D. Rogers, and a sister Samantha J. Rogers, both of Raymore, Mo.; grandparents, Joyce Belman of Independence, Marvin and Sherron Weakley of Independence, and Vicky O'Farall of Montrose, Mo.; two great-grandmothers, Grace Weakley of Independence and Josephine Nickel of Clinton, Mo.; several aunts and uncles including Shelly Anderson of Lee's Summit.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Floral Hills East cemetery.
