CLARENCE E. McMILLIN
Clarence E. McMillin, 95, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at his home.
Mr. McMillin was born May 1, 1903, in Sibley, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a farmer, had worked for Armco Steel, and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 13 District. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Eugene McMillin in May 1997.
His survivors include his wife, Nettie L. McMillin, and a daughter, Betty J. McMillin, both of the home; a daughter-in-law, Gilda R. McMillin, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a brother, John Stanford, Kansas City; a sister, Mary Oldham, Harrisonville, Mo.; one granddaughter, Julia Annette; and one great-grandson, Dillon Edward Fisher.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. The family
suggests contributions to the National Diabetes Association.
DELORES L. MILLER
Delores L. Miller, 72, Amoret, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Miller was born March 18, 1926, in Boicourt, Kan. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Pleasanton (Kan.) Assembly of God Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 57 years, Roy R. Miller of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Allen and Shirley Miller, Fort Scott, Kan., Leslie and Kathy Miller, Gladstone, Mo., David Keith and Cathy Miller, Wellsville, Kan., and Kevin and Daniece Miller, Butler, Mo.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Martha and Jim McCullough, Amoret, Betty and Carl C. Anderson, and Beverly Miller, all of Independence, and Carrie and George Lindsay, Amoret; two sisters, Dorothy Gaston, Amoret, and Ida Singer, La Cygne, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church in Amoret. Burial will be in Benjamin cemetery, Amoret. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Mangold Chapel, Amsterdam, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Hospital.
VIDA V. ROGERS
Vida V. Rogers, 78, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998.
Mrs. Rogers was born Nov. 4, 1919, in Weir, Kan. She worked at and managed cafeterias for the Independence School District before she retired. Her husband, Donald M. Rogers, died in 1989.
Her survivors include a son, Donald M. Rogers Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; four daughters, Mary Brown, Wichita, Kan., Jeanne Barnes and Ginger Craven, both of Independence, and Vicki Hazelrigg, Fishers, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
DORIS M. ROUDEBUSH
Doris Mae Roudebush, 83, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at the Rosewood Care Center.
Mrs. Roudebush was born Sept. 20, 1915, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Gudgell Park RLDS congregation, and Pythian Sisters Temple 150, where she served as pianist. Her husband of 49 years, Clifton T. Roudebush, died in 1984.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sondra and Allen Watkins, and a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Helene Roudebush, all of Independence; two sisters, Emma Bridges, Independence, and Neita Hirst, Claremore, Okla.; a brother, Everett Holsworth; five grandchildren, Marc, Dennis and Jeff Roudebush, and Vance and Shannon Watkins; and two great-grandsons, Steven and Adam Roudebush.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Rosewood Care Center.
GERALD E. "NICK" STUCK
Gerald E. "Nick" Stuck, 47, Sweet Springs, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall, Mo.
Mr. Stuck was born July 28, 1951, in Independence, and lived in Independence until moving to Sweet Springs six years ago. He was truck driver for UPS, retiring in 1992, and a Navy veteran.
His survivors include his mother, Patricia S. McGinnis, Lake Havasu, Ariz.; a daughter, Nikita L. Stuck, San Angelo, Texas; a half sister, Paula Luna, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Smith, all of Independence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
DELLA M. "MaMa D" TURNER
Della Marie "MaMa D" Turner, 58, Kansas City, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Mrs. Turner was born Feb. 13, 1940, in California, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City most of her life. She was a cosmetologist and currently was resident manager for Cohen-Esry Properties. She was a member of the Sheffield Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Todd Anthony, and a grandson, Jeremy Joseph Kowalski.
Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Kelly Chavez, Independence, and Mark and Theresa Chavez, Blue
Springs; four daughters and sons-in-law, JoRita and James Martin, Independence, TyEtta and John Kowalski, Blue Springs, ReGina and Mike Thurman, Kansas City, and Danette and Zahir Dhillo, Overland Park, Kan.; her parents, Harvey and Amanda Bristow, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, David L. Robb, Webster, Fla.; a sister, Bridget Y. Kluge, Kansas City; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Hemophilia Association or the American Heart Association.
ELSIE E. WIGGINS
Elsie E. Wiggins, 81, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, at Crescent Health Services of Oak Grove.
Mrs. Wiggins was born Sept. 5, 1917, in McKenzie, Ala., and lived in Manhattan, Kan. for 46 years, moving to Oak Grove seven years ago. She was a licensed cosmetologist in Manhattan for 45 years, having owned and operated "Your Studio of Beauty" and "Coiffure Beauty & Spa." She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Randol and Florene Wiggins, Grain Valley; three brothers, Jerry Salter and Orval Salter, both of Independence, and Jasper Salter, Daleville, Va.; five grandchildren, Amy Leavell, and Gene, Brad, Randy and Brett Wiggins; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Wiggins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
NELLIE T. McCARTHY
Nellie T. McCarthy, 107, Odessa, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Concordia, Mo.
Mrs. McCarthy was born Sept. 17, 1891, in Oak Grove and had lived in the Odessa area since moving to the family farm in 1918. She taught school in the rural area of Odessa, Wagon Knob, Rocky Ford and Highland schools before retiring in 1921. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Elvin "D.E." McCarthy on April 21, 1970, and a son, T. Elvin McCarthy.
Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Marion and Alberta McCarthy, Mayview, Mo., and David D. and Roma McCarthy, Mesa, Ariz.; three daughters, Maxine Mace, St. Louis, Mo., Mary Robinson, Odessa, and Barbara McCarthy, Little Rock, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Odessa. There is no visitation. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church, Odessa.
VIRGIL H. SCHROER
Virgil H. Schroer Sr., 76, Kansas City, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Jefferson Health Care Center.
Mr. Schroer was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Kansas City. He was a World War II Navy SeaBee veteran. He had worked for Bendix-Allied Signal and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 006. He was also a skilled woodworker. He was preceded in death by Doris L. Schroer in 1988.
His survivors include his wife, Katherine Schroer of the home; two sons, Ronald L. Schroer, Blue Springs, and Virgil H. Schroer, Raytown; a daughter, Patricia A. Breitenbaugh, Irmo, S.C.; three brothers, Byron G. Schroer, Lee's Summit, Frank Schroer, Carson, Calif., and Fred Schroer, Riveria, Ariz.; and three grandsons, Matthew C., Kurt N., and Dustin R. Schroer.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
FREDDIE J. STEEN
Freddie Joyce Steen, 65, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at the Life Care Center of Grandview.
Mrs. Steen was born in Kansas City. She retired in 1967 after 17 years as a pharmaceutical buyer for McKesson-Robbins. She was a Baptist.
Her survivors include her husband, Robert L. Steen of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin Lea and John Crick, Independence, and Rayna Colleen and John Melvin, Blue Springs; and an aunt, Bertie Elder, Gladstone, Mo.
Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Muehlebach Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Heartland Chapter, 3846 West 75th St., Prairie Village, Kan., 66208.
LESTER K. UDO
Lester Kevin Udo, 57, Lone Jack, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Udo was born March 25, 1941, in Hickory County, Mo. He had been employed at the General Motors Fairfax Division, and was a member of the United Auto Workers. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His survivors include a son, Chris Udo, and one grandson, Jonathan Udo, both of Lone Jack.
He will be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.
FANNIE M. HEISHMAN
Fannie M. Heishman, 87, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Heishman was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Petersburg, Ill., grew up in Bosworth, Mo., and moved to Independence in 1939. She was a dietary aide at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital for several years. She was a member of the Susquehanna Assembly of God and the Womens Ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay O. Heishman in 1998, and a grandson, Michael Heishman in 1968.
Her survivors include three sons, Glenn E. Heishman, Napoleon, Mo., and Delmar C. Heishman and David O. Heishman, both of Independence; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 622 N. Jennings Road. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.
LILLIAN I. "MICKEY" BLACK
Lillian Irene "Mickey" Black, 84, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park, Kan.
Mrs. Black was born May 30, 1914, in Kan-sas City and lived in the area all her life. She was a real estate agent for many years. Mrs. Black was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Enoch Hill RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Leon F. Black, Independence; three daughters, Lorraine Cole, Grain Valley, Mo., Dolores Sawyer, Overland Park, Kan., and Edna Foster, Blue Springs, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Janice Chapman; a sister, Dorothy Oshel, Harlingen, Texas; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons; and two stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence. Burial will follow in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
PHILLIP "PHIL" P. CERUTTI
Phillip Paul Cerutti, 50, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Truman Medical Center East.
Mr. Cerutti was born Nov. 27, 1947, in Brosley, Mo.
His survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Christy and Mike Fansher, Blue Springs, and Michelle Kever, Kansas City; his mother, Ruby "Mickey" Bell, Kansas City; a sister, Connie Ruth, Lowry City, Mo.; and a grandson, Tylor Ely Balcom.
Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 7 until service time at the chapel.
JOHN B. DARBY
John B. Darby, 75, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at his residence.
Mr. Darby was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Broken Bow, Okla. He had lived in the Independence area since 1948. He was a warehouse foreman for Sears for 15 years retiring in 1963. He then went to work for Lipton Tea Company as a warehouse foreman for 21 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Jubilee Ministries. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Darby, Independence; three daughters, Carolyn Lasher, Paola, Kan., Paula Saddler, Independence, and Joanna Whitaker, Grain Valley, Mo.; a sister, Sue Jones, Murfreesboro, Ark.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel in Independence at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 today at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice Foundation, 1625 W. 92nd Street, Kansas City, Mo. 64114.
