KELLY KJELLERSON

Kelly Kjellerson, 16, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Grain Valley.

Kelly was born Dec. 16, 1981, in Chanute, Kan. She was a sophomore at Blue Springs South High School. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a cousin.

Her survivors include her parents, Don and Mary Kjellerson, of the home; one brother, David Kjellerson, Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Kristina Kjellerson, Independence, Kari Kjellerson, of the home, and Susan Kjellerson, Stockton, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Interment will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to Blue Springs Christian Church.

FRANK DELBERT WHITE SR.

Frank Delbert White Sr., 90, of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the Rosewood Health Care Center.

Mr. White was born Oct. 21, 1907, in Independence, where he lived most of his life. He was an accomplished violinist and a concert master of the Kansas City Symphony and for many years played in the Independence Symphony. He was a member of the Wahdemna Choral. He managed the organ department for the Baldwin Piano and Organ Company in Kansas City for 18 years.He was also a hearing aid technician, and owned and operated Hearing Aid Centers in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, and in Independence, where in 1969 he established the White Hearing Aid Center until his retirement in 1976. He was an ordained minister and Evangelist Patriarch in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille May White, in 1976; and a daughter, Ruth Ann Darling, in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Winnogene White, of the home; two sons, Frank D. White Jr. and James E. White, both of Blue Springs; a daughter, S. Maxine Gouldsmith, of Buckner; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Odessa Hills Camp Grounds c/o Reggie Bendorf, 413 N.W. 21st St., Warrensbury, Mo., 64093.

THOMAS B. BATES

Thomas B. Bates, 86, Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at the Rosewood Care Center.

Mr. Bates was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Jackson County and had lived in Independence for most of his life. In 1972, he retired as general foreman with Missouri Portland Cement Co., after working 41 1/2 years. He was a 1929 graduate of William Chrisman High School. He was a member of Summit Grove RLDS Church.

His survivors include his wife, Frances H. Bates of the home; two sons, David Bates, Kansas City, and Thomas Bates, Grandview; a daughter, Diane Basquette, Independence; a brother, Arthur L. Bates, Independence; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Groves in Independence.

ELMER D. HAMPTON

Elmer Daniel Hampton, 89, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Hampton was born Dec. 27, 1907, in Wray, Colo., and has lived in the Independence area since 1953. He was a former Arkansas Valley tennis champion. He had been employed as a planner at Dit-MCO International for 15 years, retiring in 1973. He had previously farmed, worked at the Farm Bureau, the ASC office, Standard Oil, and as office manager of Hampton Construction Co. in Las Vegas, Nev. He was ordained a priest in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1943 and an elder in 1944. He served as pastor of the Far West congregation and as associate pastor of several other congregations. He worked for 25 years at Daytime Ministries in Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Eva Hampton of the home; two sons, Dr. Gerald Elmer Hampton, Lamoni, Iowa, and Daniel Ray Hampton, Blue Springs; four daughters, Donna Ree Crawford, Independence, Ethel Mae Esex, Columbus, Ohio, Eva Lee Cartwright, Sibley, Neva Marie Housknecht, Raytown; two sisters, Bertha Cavin, Independence, and Marie Carson Johnston, Sequim, Wash.; a brother, Harry Edmund Hampton, Bakersfield, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Independence Community Foundation Gift of Hope Hospice.

JANET C. LINDSEY

Janet "Jan" C. Lindsey, 54, of Harrisonville, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at her home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1943 in Independence, the daughter of Claude L. and Loretta (Greelish) Harter. She married Dayle P. Lindsey on Dec. 8, 1971. She lived in Independence before moving to Harrisonville.

Lindsey was a graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City. She received an art degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was a member of the Cass County Historical Society, St. Margaret`s Guild, and St. Peter`s Episcopal Altar Guild, all in Harrisonville.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1985.

Her survivors include her husband, Dayle P. Lindsey, of the home; her mother, Loretta R. Harter, Independence; two stepchildren, Ross Lindsey and Julie Coburn; one grandson, Jesse Coburn, and her son-in-law, Randy Coburn, all of Harrisonville.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter`s Episcopal Church, Harrisonville. Burial will be in Mt. Washington cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m.Monday at Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.

Contributions may be made to the St. Peter`s Episcopal Church Altar Guild Fund.

GLADYS E. MORMAN

Gladys E. Morman, 88, Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, at Park Lane Hospital.

Mrs. Morman was born Nov. 15, 1908, on Salisbury Farm, Independence, and was a lifelong Independence resident. She graduated from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Mo., and taught school for several years in Independence. She retired in 1973 from Western Auto after 25 years. She was active in the Seniors Club at the Sermon Center. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Morman in 1956, and a daughter, Barbara Jean Douglas.

Her survivors include three grandsons, Thomas Rowland, Glasgow, Mo., John Douglas Sr. and Bill Douglas, both of Independence; a granddaughter, Terri Rowland, Independence; a sister, Nora Gerber, Burlington, Iowa; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

BERT T. PHILLIPS

Bert T. Phillips, 57, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 1997 at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernadettes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at the church.

HELEN E. SCHMIDT

Helen E. Schmidt, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, in Hiawatha, Kan.

Mrs. Schmidt was born Dec. 6, 1910, near Falls City, Neb. She was preceeded in death by a husband, Lawrence H. Schmidt.

Her survivors include three daughters, Connie Prawl, of Independence, Doranne Van Orman, of Hereford, Ariz., Glenda Mayne Sr., of Dothan, Ala.; two sisters; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at the Door Funeral Home in Falls City.

MARY E. SKAGGS

Mary E. Skaggs, 70, of Sandoval, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, in St. Louis.

Mrs. Scaggs was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Piedmont, Mo. Her survivors include her husband, of the home; a mother, Annie Worley, of Flora, Mo.; four sons, Tom Skaggs, of Oak Grove, Andrew Skaggs, of Alton, Mo., and Tim and Wayne Skaggs, both of Sandoval; two daughters, Betty Williams, of Sandoval, and Marry Ann Crayne, of Granite City, Mo.; a stepson; four brothers; a sister; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

EDWIN J. CULP

Edwin J. Culp, 76, Blue Springs, died Monday, Sept.29, 1997, at the Blue Springs Health Care Center.

Mr. Culp was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City for 11 years.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

STANLEY M. LARSON

Stanley Merle Larson, 80, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Larson was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Erwin, S.D. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Stanley Pack Post of the American Legion. He was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired as a security officer for Standard Oil Co., Sugar Creek Refinery. He had lived in this area for 39 years and was an avid Chiefs fan.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Larson of the home; a daughter, Nancy Larson Popowski, Curlew, Wash.; four stepchildren, Robert Chambers, Miami, Fla., Reed Chambers, Independence, Joni Crane-Woods, Juno Beach, Fla., and Carol Rachel Jacobs, McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Jean Christensen, Rapid City, S.D., Ruby Miller, Auburn, Ind., and Elleen Kadiec, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2:30p.m. Sunday at the church, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Private interment services will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stanley Larson Memorial Fund.

LINDSAY L. WARD

Lindsay Lee Ward, 44, Ocean Springs, Miss., died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Biloxi, Miss.

Mr. Ward had been a resident of Jackson County for five years. He was vice president of the Home Builder Association of Southeast MS. He was a residential building contractor. He was president of Specialty Homes. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 22 years as a search and rescue swimmer and a gas turbine engineer.He was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Gautier, Miss.

His survivors include his wife, Paulette Charbonnet Ward, Ocean Springs; a daughter, Brandie Lynn Sallee, a son, Raymond Lee Ward, his father, George T. Ward, his mother, Jewell Frans Ward, and stepmother, Jeanette C. Ward, two stepbrothers, Robert Qualkenbush and Gary Qualkenbush, and a stepsister, Cindy Fowler, all of Blue Springs.

Services were Thursday at St. Mary`s Catholic Church, Gautier.

LENA G. WILLIAMS

Lena G. Sperry Williams, 88, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Monterey Park Nursing Center, where she had lived.

Mrs. Williams was born in Carroll County, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City for 30 years before moving to Oak Grove in 1971. She had lived in Monterey Park for the past six weeks. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Raymond Williams in 1990.

Her survivors include a son, V. Malcolm Williams, Independence; two brothers, Ivan Sperry, Marengo, Iowa, and Paul Sperry, Lisbon, Iowa; two grandchildren, Mark Williams, Odessa, and Janet Woodward, Independence; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Welsh cemetery, Dawn, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

DORIS V. BICKFORD

Doris V. Bickford, 91, Clarkston, Wash., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Tri-State Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clarkston.

Mrs. Bickford was born Nov. 20, 1906, in St. Joseph, Mo., and lived in St. Joseph and Walla Walla, Wash., before returning to this area. She had lived in Independence for 30 years and in Clarkston for the past three years. She was a retired cafeteria supervisor. She worked for the Sheffield Steel Mill for 12 years. She attended school in Kansas City and was a member of the Belmont Church in Kansas City. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her survivors include one daughter, Betty Wilcox, Clarkston; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews of the area.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery.

CATHERINE FRIEDRICH

Catherine Friedrich, 95, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Friedrich was born June 16, 1902, in Arrow Rock, Mo., and lived in Levasy before moving to Independence in 1969. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Buckner Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Friedrich, and a son, Richard Friedrich.

Her survivors include two grandchildren, Dennis Friedrich, Lee`s Summit, and Patricia Copple, Grain Valley; one brother, Frank Eastham, Phoenix, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

LILLIAN M. HENDERSON

Lillian May Henderson, 89, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Henderson was born April 4, 1908, in Fall River, Mass., and spent her childhood in Washington, D.C. She was valedictorian of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as an organist, pianist, choir member, church school teacher and Herald House book steward. She and her husband accepted missionary assignments for 25 years. They ministered throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. She shared her talents of painting, handcraft and crocheting with the women`s department and served on the staff of numerous youth camps and reunions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Henderson.

Her survivors include four daughters, Lillian Bayless, Blue Springs, Dorothy Gundling, Bluffton, S.C., Faith Beers, Hinsdale, Ill., and Janet Irby, Tiberon, Calif.; two sisters, Beatrice Purcell and Bertha Young; one brother, Thomas Wilkinson; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She donated her body to the Kansas University Medical Center for medical research. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Chapel at the Groves in Independence.
