EMMA A. DODDS
Emma Abigail Dodds, 82, Maryville, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Nodaway Nursing Center, Maryville.
Mrs. Dodds was born July 26, 1916, in Andes, Mont., and had lived in Independence from 1948 until moving to Maryville. She worked in the clerical department for five years for the Unity School of Christianity in Lee`s Summit until 1978. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Waldo Avenue Restoration Branch. Her husband, Charles W. Dodds Sr., died in 1987.
Her survivors include three sons, Charles W. Dodds Jr., Maryville, Lorance F. Dodds, Canton, Mich., and H.B. Dodds, Independence; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Private services will be held; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Center Place Restoration School, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
JUDY A. ADDAMS
Judy A. Addams, 55, Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at the Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Addams was born in Hays, Kan., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was a records supervisor with the Social Security Administration Record Archives Center. She was of the Non-denominational Faith and was attending The Sheffield Family Life Center.
Her survivors include her husband of 30 years, Jack Addams of the home; two sons, Brian Addams and David Addams; a daughter, Melissa Addams, all of Independence; her mother, Marie Schmidt, LaCrosse, Kan.; seven brothers, Gary Schmidt, Richard Schmidt, Galen Schmidt, Mike Schmidt, all of LaCrosse, John Schmidt, Hoisington, Kan., Joe Schmidt, Wamego, Kan., and Mark Schmidt, Colby, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Wagner, Rush Center, Kan., and Debbie Hollis, Independence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
EARL L. BURNS
Earl Leon Burns, 80, Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Burns was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Ruskin, Neb., and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a truck driver for Hub Concrete Co. for several years. He was member of Teamsters Union Local 541. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen May Burns in February 1998.
His survivors include two sons, Bill Burns, Independence, and Dick Burns, Kansas City; a daughter, Linda Dutzel, Independence; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
BETTY L. MILLER
Betty Lee Miller, 71, Golden, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Joplin, Mo. She was a dental receptionist.
Her survivors include her husband of 54 years, John Miller of the home; a daughter, Teresa Smith, Golden; and two granddaughters.
Cremation, with memorial services and burial pending in Westminster (Calif.) Park cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of New Salem Funeral Home.
EVOLENE PATTISON
Evolene Pattison, 83, Boonville, Mo., died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Lakeview Care Center.
Mrs. Pattison was born May 4, 1914, in Shaberg, Ark., and had lived in the Boonville community for 39 years. She was employed for 20 years at Spic & Span Cleaners before retiring. She was a member of the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church and the Wesley Circle.
Her survivors include her husband, Earl Pattison of the home; a son, Guy Wayne Pattison, Independence; a daughter, Janie Herigon, Boonville; six brothers, Devoy Ryan, Memphis, Tenn., Suler Ryan, Huntsville, Texas, Ray Ryan, Lamar, Mo., Claude Ryan, Independence, Charles Ryan, Lee`s Summit, and Jack Ryan, Jefferson City, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Bonnie Herigon, Kimberly Wightman, Allan Herigon and Brian Pattison.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Walnut Grove cemetery, Boonville. There will be no visitation. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Boonville. Arrangements are under the direction of the William Wood Funeral Home in Boonville.
JACK P. WOODS JR.
Jack P. Woods Jr., 49, Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Woods was born Sept. 13, 1948, in Chincoteague, Va., and had lived in Trimble, Mo., Gower, and Kansas City before moving to Independence in 1996. He graduated from Plattsburg High School and attended Central Missouri Methodist College in Fayette. He worked for Cooks Paint Co., in the lab, in North Kansas City, managed the Quick Trip in Kansas City, and later worked for D.R. Pruitt Painter`s in Trimble.
His survivors include two sons, Jack Woods III, Gulfport, Miss., and Jeffery Woods, Vancleave, Miss.; Cecil Simms of the home; his parents, Doc and Winnie Pruitt, Trimble; a brother, Ron Pruitt, Smithville, Mo.; a sister, Beverly Johnson, Trimble; three grandchildren, Bryce, Jeffery and Carissa.
Cremation, with private family memorial services at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home of Gower.
MICHAEL L. BROCK
Michael Lindell Brock, 39, Independence, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, in Blue Springs.
Mr. Brock was born Nov. 19, 1957, in Groton, Conn., and had lived most of his life in Oak Grove and Independence. He was the owner/operator of Mike`s Auto Interior in Independence. He was a member of the ceramic`s club and attended Christ`s Heartland Church.
His survivors include two sons, Michael L. Brock II and Bryan Wayne Brock, both of the home; his father, Charles Brock, Osceola, Mo.; his mother, Vera Brock, Independence; two brothers, Richard Brock, Lynchburg, Va., and David Brock, Independence;and three sisters, Debra Linneman and Carolyn Stegeman, both of Blue Springs, and Linda Jennings, Liberty, Mo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at theSpeaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7:30 to 9 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Shiloh Children`s Home, Route 3, Kahoka, Mo. 63445.
BETTY G. CLARK
Betty G. Clark, 50, Odessa, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Clark was born May 31, 1946, in Oxnard, Calif., and had also livedin Grain Valley before moving to Odessa in 1984. She had been a secretary for Odessa R-7 Upper Elementary and a former teacher`s aid at McQuerry Elementary School. She had also been employed by Kmart of Blue Springs from 1989 to 1992 and Blue Springs Bowl from 1992 to 1994. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Oxnard, and had attended Calvary Baptist Church of Odessa. She was a former member and secretary of Mother`s Club of Scout Troop 310, Grain Valley.
Her survivors include her husband, Larry D. Clark of the home; two sons, Duane Clark, West Liberty, Iowa, and Don Clark, Odessa; and a granddaughter, Caitlyn Clark.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens, Lexington, Mo. Friends may call from 12:30 until service time at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa, or to the Kansas City Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.
FLORENCE R. LaPICK
Florence R. LaPick, 90, Independence, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor of Blue Springs.
Mrs. LaPick was born Oct. 16, 1906, in Afena, Italy, and had lived in Independence for the past 17 years. She was a receptionist on Wall Street. She was of the Catholic faith.
Her survivors include two sons, Rudolph E. LaPick, Yonkers, N.Y., and John P. LaPick, Connecticut; a daughter, Gioia A. Brainard, Independence; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Entombment willbe in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the chapel.
HELEN O. PORTER
Helen Opal Porter, 88, Blue Springs, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Porter was born Dec. 19, 1908, in Blue Springs and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs and a Busy Bee for 40 years. She was also a member of LEA encampment for 25 years, Rebekah Lodge of Blue Springs for 25 years, charter and life member of the Blue Springs HistoricalSociety and Lobb Church Ladies Aide. She had worked for Lake City Ammunition Plant, Blue Springs School District, Jackson County Hospital (Truman Medical Center East) and was past city correspondent for the Jackson County Democrat and Blue Springs Sentinal newspapers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Parker T. Porter Sr.; a son, Parker T. Porter Jr., and a daughter, Mary Jo Huntsucker.
Her survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lera M. Porter, Blue Springs; ason-in-law, Havery Huntsucker; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
ROBERT J. "JIM" WYMAN
Robert J. "Jim" Wyman, 36, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at Kansas Univerity Medical Center.
Mr. Wyman was born Nov. 9, 1962, in Lexington, Mo. He was the branch manager for Arrow Truck Sales, and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
His survivors include his wife, Patrice M. Gunter Wyman, and one son, Joshua Gunter, both of the home; his mother, Joann Wyman, Independence; his father, Dr. Robert Wyman, Kansas City; one sister, Sue Wyman Pearman, and a niece, Alexandrea Pearman, both of Lee`s Summit; maternal grandparents, Merritt and Dever Antes, Hendersonville, N.C.; and paternal grandmother, Mary George, Sun City Center, Fla.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the St. Vincent DePauls Society or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
JOE L. ALLEN
Joe L. Allen, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at St. Mary`s Manor.
Mr. Allen was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a charter member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church. He was a cement contractor by trade. He was Past Master of Independence Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 76, past High Priest of the Independence Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons, past commander of the Palestine Commandery, Knights Templar, past Patron of the Independence Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and Knight Commander of Holy Royal Arch. He was a member of the Knights York Cross of Honor, Orcomot Club, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine and Nazarene Shrine No. 2. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia B. Allen, in 1982.
His survivors include two daughters, Betty Karr, Lincoln, Mo, and Norma Brents, Independence; two sons, Alvin Allen, St. Cloud, Fla., and Joe Allen, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Jess Patterson, Independence; a sister, Pauline Graham, Independence; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A Masonic ceremony and a Knights Templar Memorial Service were today. Burial was in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation. Arrangements were under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, Independence.
JUANITA L. WATSON
Juanita L. Watson, 86, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the Hill View Nursing Center, Platte City, Mo.
Mrs. Watson was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Newtown, Mo. She was the owner/operator of Juanita`s Beauty Shop in Kansas City for 39 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Newtown Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to The Salvation Army.
WILLIAM W. LATTIMER
William Wallace Lattimer, 70, Sugar Creek, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Lattimer was born July 27, 1926, and had lived in this area for more than 35 years. He was an inspector for the Ford Motor Division and a member of the United Auto Workers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Michael Lattimer.
His survivors include a son, David "Bruce" Lattimer, Kelso, Wash.; two daughters, Connie Hurst and Michelle Lattimer, both of SugarCreek; a brother, Dean Lattimer, Kansas City; two sisters, Geraldine Lattimer and Joyce Click, both of West Plains, Mo.; a grandson, Larry David Hurst; and several nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.
MARY M. WHITED
Mary M. Whited, 83, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Whited was born June 8, 1916, in Independence.
Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Mary Watson, Cherokee, Kan.; one brother, Elmer Butcher, Independence; two grandsons, Ronald T. Watson and Jeff Watson; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
