GARY N. COE SR.

Gary N. Coe Sr., 45, Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Care Center.

Mr. Coe was born July 27, 1952, in Kansas City and was a lifelong Independence resident. He worked for Overnite Merchandizer for seven years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence in 1973.

His survivors include his wife, Minnie Coe, Blue Springs; two sons, Christopher Kidwell and Gary Coe Jr., both of Blue Springs; two daughters, Stephanie Schroeder, Lexington, Mo., and Candace Coe, Blue Springs; his mother, Verda Wallace, Independence; his paternal grandmother, Bernice Scherlinger, Nevada, Mo.; eight sisters, Vickie Smith, Mary Hicks, Kathy Morris and Donna Wallace, all of Independence, Marie Cantrell, Blue Mound, Kan., Leslie Roberts, Maysville, Mo., Lori Smith, Nevada, and Suzanna Smith, Kirksville, Mo.; six brothers, Jimmy Wallace, Blue Springs, David Swan, Otto Modlin and Paul Modlin and Bill Modlin, all of Nevada, and Chris Birt, Kansas City; and five grandchildren.

Services were Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial was in Brooking cemetery, Raytown.

MICHAEL L. "MICK" EVANS

Michael Lee "Mick" Evans, 48, Lawson, Mo., died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Evans was born May 16, 1949, in Independence, and had lived in the Lawson area for the last 20 years. He had worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo for 27 years and retired in 1994. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 249 in Claycomo. He was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War.

His survivors include his wife of 27 years, Doris Jean Evans of the home; a daughter, Shauna Shipley, Ava, Mo.; a son, Shae Evans, Boise, Idaho; his father, Lester Evans, Raytown; a brother, Randy Evans, Independence; and two grandchildren, Rachelle and Drew Shipley.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Jarman Funeral Home, Lawson; cremation. The family suggests memorial contributions in Michael`s memory to the American Heart Association.

WILLIAM J. JOHNSON

William J. Johnson, 71, Independence, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at the Excelsior Springs (Mo.) Medical Center.

Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 6, 1926, in Springfield, Mo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a signalman for the Union Pacific Railroad before retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood Railroad Signalman Local 21 and the Horse Shoe Club of Independence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Johnson, a son, William Stanley Johnson, a granddaughter, Tina Johnson, and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Barham.

His survivors include a son, Garry Johnson, Excelsior Springs; two daughters, Zella Stalker, Aurora, Mo., and Elizabeth Lackey, Excelsior Springs; two sisters, Wanda Gordon, Texas, and Glenda Walker, Springfield; two brothers, Paul Tindle and David Tindle, both of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Prichard Chapel, Excelsior Springs. Burial will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Prichard Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.

STEPHEN E. KUCIFER

Stephen Ernst Kucifer, 82, Bates City, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Kucifer was born Jan. 1, 1917, in New Orleans, La., and he had lived in Houston before moving to Bates City in 1990. He had been employed by the Houston (Texas) Light & Power Co., retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Bates City Restoration Branch Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah L. Kucifer.

His survivors include his wife, M. Selena Kucifer of the home; two daughters, Synthia DeBarthe, Kansas City, and Stephanie Bird, Bates City; two sisters, Ida Gaston, Texas, and Melanie Talley, Louisiana; four grandsons and one great-grandson.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. at Bates City Restoration Branch; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Cornerstone Campground, 3211 Quarry Road, Bates City, Mo. 64011.

ELEANOR E. MORRISON

Eleanor Elizabeth Morrison, 89, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Morrison was born March 1, 1909, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker and a member of Timothy Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Morrison in 1982, and one grandson, Thomas Wilkerson.

Her survivors include three daughters, Carol Vochatzer, Blue Springs, and Gloria Sheets and Joyce Titus, both of Independence; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church.

EMMA J. PARKER

Emma J. Parker, 86, Odessa, formerly of Sibley, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Parker was born May 22, 1912, in Joplin, Mo., grew up in Texas, moved to Leavenworth, Kan., in 1954, and to Sibley in 1977. She moved to Odessa in 1992. She was retired from the Fort Leavenworth Green House. She was baptized at the age of 10 in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was attending the Odessa Restoration Branch. Her husband, Iral Parker, died in 1996.

Her survivors include two sons, Wendal L. Parker and Eldon R. Parker, both of Odessa; one daughter, Carrow Lynn Briggs, Winchester, Kan.; two sisters, Edith McClosky and Etura Smith, both of Wichita Falls, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Odessa Restoration Branch, on 131 Highway north of Interstate 70. Arrangements are under the direction of the New Salem Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA E. BARNES

Virginia E. Barnes, 92, Odessa, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Barnes was born Oct. 30, 1905, in Berryton, Kan., and had lived in Odessa for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Lee Barnes in 1970.

Her survivors include two daughters, Judy Hinrichs, Odessa, and Joyce McDavitt, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

PAULINE D. PASLAY BEAL

Pauline D. Paslay Beal, 77, Independence, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Beal was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Vinita, Okla., and had lived in the greater Kansas City area for most of her life. She had been a seamstress for Gay Gibson Inc. & Mendels Inc., in Kansas City for 35 years, retiring in 1983. She had been a member of the International Ladies Garment Worker`s Union, Local 114, Lodge 10832. She was a Baptist.

Her survivors include her husband, Maynard N. Beal of the home; four sons, Joel Paslay, Independence, Larry Beal and Robert Beal, both of Blue Springs, and Kenneth Beal, Bates City; a daughter, Carolyn Kolb, Oak Grove; a brother, Ray Marang, Boiser City, La.; two sisters, Dee Price and Ellen Wilmoth, both of Coffeyville, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

GARY L. CARTMILL

Gary Lee Cartmill, 53, Buckner, died Monday, March 9, 1998.

Mr. Cartmill was born June 6, 1944, in Kansas City. He was a school bus driver. He was a member of the Central Assembly of God, Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Janis Cartmill, Buckner; his father, James Cartmill, Buckner; his mother, Lucretia Cartmill, Clinton, Mo.; three sons, Christopher Cartmill, David Cartmill and Eric Cartmill, all of the home; and two half brothers, Terry Cartmill, Grain Valley, and Donnie Molder, Deep Water.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

GERALDINE "GERRY" GARDNER

Geraldine "Gerry" Gardner, 72, Independence, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital.

Mrs. Gardner was born April 29, 1920, in Western Grove, Ark., and had lived in Harrison, Ark., before moving to Kansas City in 1942. She had worked for Ben Franklin Stores and had owned a dress shop in Harrison. In Kansas City, she was employed by Sears, Donley Garment, Spanglers and Macys. In Independence she owned Gerry`s Ceramic Gifts and taught ceramics crafting and decorating. She was an accomplished seamstress, flower arranger and interior decorator. She was a member of Norfleet Baptist Church of Kansas City.

Her survivors include her husband of 52 years, Joseph E. Gardner of the home; a daughter, Becky VanSickle, Greenwood; a brother, Robert Hudson, Independence; and two granddaughters, Staci Shippy and Danae VanSickle.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Norfleet Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

DONALD HORNE

Donald Horne, 44, Independence, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Horne was born Nov. 24, 1953, in Independence. He had been employed as a sheet metal worker for many years. He was involved with an archery club. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his wife, Barbara Horne of the home; three daughters, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Rachel Horne, all of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; stepdaughter, Ginna Martin, Independence; his parents, Vern and Marie Horne, Independence; three brothers, Russell Horne, Arizona, Gary Horne, Texas, and Steve Horne, Independence; a sister, Debbie Sindorf, Claycomo, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services wll be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Cremation following the services. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

ROBERT E. LINDSAY

Robert Eugene Lindsay, 70, Independence, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Lindsay was born May 9, 1927, in Blue Summit, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a pipefitter for Owens Corning for 13 years, retiring in 1989. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Elsie Lindsay of the home; a son, Tommie Lindsay, Kingville, Mo.; two daughters, Constance Wilson, Lee`s Summit, and Judy Crawford, Garfield, Ark.; a brother, William Lindsay, Kansas City; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

CECILE L. SAWYER

Cecile Lee Sawyer, 49, Blue Springs, died Monday, March 9, 1998.

Mrs. Sawyer was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker.

Her survivors include her husband, Phillip Sawyer, Blue Springs; two daughters, Stacey Marie Anderson and Lisa Sue Ann King, both of Kansas City; a son, Frederick Lee Sawyer of the home; her father and mother, Cecil Brown and Betty Brown, both of Grain Valley; a sister, Kendra Sue Brown-Lee, Kansas City; and three grandchildren, Breanne Anderson, Michael Tyler Anderson and Tiffany Anderson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

CASSIE E. PANGLE HAGEN

Cassie Elizabeth Pangle Hagen, 50, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998.

Her survivors include her husband, William Hagen; a daughter, Chandra Hagen, Fort Collins, Colo.; a son, Jason Hagen, Lawrence, Kan.; her mother, Amber Pangle, Yellville, Ark.; and a sister, Becky Cooper, Waldron, Ark.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cedar Grove Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Georges Creek cemetery, Yellville, Ark. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Burns Funeral Home, Yellville, Ark.

LEONARD R. BECK

Leonard Raymond Beck of Independence, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Beck was born in Centralia, Okla., and moved to Independence in 1953. He was retired from the Herald Publishing Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was injured in northern Italy in hand-to-hand combat, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as a pianist and organist for many years. He graduated from Centralia High School, attended college at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, and did graduate work at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.

His survivors include his wife, Emma Beck of the home; two daughters, Janet Huntsucker and Mona Kirk, both of Independence; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Bertha Kampe, Independence, and Frances Milton, South Carolina; four half brothers, Osburn A. Beck Jr., California, Wesley Beck, Cheyenne, Wyo., Joseph Beck, Independence, and Thomas Beck, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Children's Fund of the General RLDS Church.
