DOROTHY L. MALENSEK
Dorothy L. Malensek, 82, Kansas City, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at her home.
Mr. Malensek was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Carroll County, Mo. Her husband, William Malensek, died in 1994.
Her survivors include two daughters, Nancy McClure and Patricia Weeks, both of Independence; two sons, William Malensek, Independence, and Darrell Malensek, Raytown; one sister, Mary Kober, Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the chapel.
EMIL W. FINKE
Emil W. Finke, 91, Buckner, died Monday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Crescent Health Care, Oak Grove.
Mr. Finke was born Feb. 3, 1907, in Buckner, and was a lifelong Buckner resident. He was a farmer in the Buckner area for many years, and a member of the Ebenezer United Church of Christ,
Levasy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dena Finke, and one son, Gary Finke.
His survivors include one sister, Frieda Gate, California, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend and neighbor, Carl Clark of Sibley.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Ebenezer United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 48, Levasy, Mo. 64066. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Buckner Chapel.
DAVID L. HILL SR
David Lee Hill Sr., 53, Odessa, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Hill was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Independence, and lived in Independence from 1946 until moving to Bates City in 1968. He moved to Odessa in 1982. He worked for Owens-Brockway in Kansas City for more than 33 years, and was a member of the International Association of Machinest and Aero Space Workers Union Local 71, Lodge 990. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa, a former member of the Concord Baptist Church in Bates City, and a 1964 graduate of Van Horn High School. He was preceded in death by one son, David Lee Hill Jr. on April 6, 1985.
His survivors include his wife, Chriss Hill of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Denise Ann and Alan Best, Odessa; his parents, Betty and Robert Hill Sr., Independence; three brothers, Robert L. Hill Jr., Blue Springs, Dr. Mike Hill, Lee`s Summit, and Jeff Hill, Independence; and two grandchildren, Andrea and Jarrod Best.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa. Burial will be in Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the church.
ETHEL F. HOLLAND
Ethel Florence Holland, 84, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Holland was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Ellis, Mo., and lived most of her life in Nevada, Mo., moving to Independence in 1991. She was a psychiatric aide for the Nevada State Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1979. Her husband, John J. Holland, died in 1976.
Her survivors include one son, Jack E. Holland, Independence; four daughters, Betty Sinsley and Ada Householder, both of Independence, Florence Johnston, Lee`s Summit, and Barbara Shumaker, Nevada; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel, Nevada. Burial will be in Avola cemetery, Bronaugh, Mo. Friends may call from now until service time. MELODY M. KNOWLES
Melody M. McLaughlin Knowles, 35, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Knowles was born Dec. 22, 1963, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Word of Life Assembly of God and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, both in Brookfield, Mo.
Her survivors include her husband, Danny Knowles, and one daughter, Christina Knowles, both of the home; her parents, Janet McLaughlin, Independence, and James McLaughlin, Warsaw, Mo.; two brothers, James D. McLaughlin, Independence, and Richard L. McLaughlin, Blue Springs; one sister, Kimberly L. Cline, Independence; a half sister, Jamylyn Stuber, Cole Camp, Mo.; and her maternal grandmother, Mildred Hackett, Chillicothe, Mo.
Services were today at the Speaks Buckner Chapel. Burial was in Buckner Hill cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Melody M. Knowles Memorial Fund, in care of Debbie at Midwest Heritage Bank, 1525 E. 23rd St., Independence, Mo. 64052.
BERTHA M. CASE
Bertha Matilda Case, 98, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at the Independence Health Care Center.
Mrs. Case was born Sept. 15, 1900, in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, and had lived in the Independence area since 1932. She was a member of the Church of Christ Temple Lot. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Case in 1989.
Her survivors include three sons, Robert C. Case, Bartlesville, Okla., Leslie P. Case, Kansas City, and Marvin M. Case, Lee's Summit; a daughter, Mary E. Johnson, Higginsville, Mo.; a sister, Alice Stubblefield, Odessa; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

LARRY E. LEIBLIE
Larry E. Leiblie, 60, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Leiblie was born March 18, 1938, in Blackwell, Okla., and had lived most of his life in Grandview and Independence. He was a driver and salesman for Guy's Foods in Liberty, Mo., and was a member of United Food & Commercial Workers.
His survivors include his wife, Gloria of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny, and Brett and Lori; two brothers, Robert and Jim; five sisters, Mary, Gloria, Katie, Nancy and Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carondolet Home Care Services.
RODNEY R. MAHL
Rodney Rhodes Mahl, 66, Lee's Summit, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Mahl was born June 15, 1932, in Pacific, Mo., and had lived in Independence and Kansas City before moving to Lee's Summit in 1972. He was a sales manager for Armco Steel for 30 years, before his retirement. He was currently an independent sales representative for metal products. He was a graduate of Central Missouri State University, an Army veteran, and a member of the Lakewood Oaks Golf Club.
His survivors include his wife, Janice Mahl of the home; two sons, Troy Mahl, Greensboro, N.C., and Brian Mahl, Lee's Summit; one daughter, Tracey Mahl, Lenexa, Kan.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Josh, Alexander and Abby Mahl; and one brother, Manley Mahl, Villa Ridge, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Entombment will be in the Mound Grove cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel.
RUTH A. RUFF
Ruth Arlene Ruff, 73, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City.
Mrs. Ruff was born May 20, 1925, in Harrison, Ark., and had lived in this area for 45 years. She had been an insurance clerk for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the National Methodist Campers Club.
Her survivors include her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Ruff of the home; three daughters, Denise Anderson, Lenexa, Kan., JeriNell Stephens, Lee's Summit, and Debbie Maston, Kansas City; two brothers, Gordon Lawson, Heath, Ohio, and Glenn Lawson, Wichita, Kan.; four sisters, Nola Baker, PasoRobles, Calif., Laura Terry, Harrison, Ark., Virginia Long, Liberty, Mo., and Wilma Mathison, Independence; and five grandchildren.

PATRICIA E. "TRISH" SCARBO
Patricia E. "Trish" Waters Scarbo, 38, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Kansas University Medical Center.
Ms. Scarbo was born in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She had been a loan coordinator for McGuire Mortgage Co. for the past year, and was of the Baptist faith.
Her survivors include her parents, Doc and Helen Waters, Independence; two brothers, Randy Waters, Independence, and Rick Waters, Holden, Mo.; her companion, Rob Andrew, Independence; two nieces, Megan and Jasmine Waters; and five nephews, Jason, Dustin, Eric, Ryan and Jesse Waters.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
MILDRED M. SHROPSHIRE
Mildred Mae Shropshire, 90, Sibley, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Shropshire was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Barry, Mo., and had lived in Sibley since 1910. She was an active member of the Sibley Christian Church and the Sibley Women's Civic Club. Her husband, Roy Shropshire, died in 1990.
Her survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Terry Wilson, Independence; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Carol Shropshire, Kearney, Mo.; five grandchildren, Lisa Earles, Brent Wilson, and Chris, Kirk and Kelly Shropshire; and one brother, Lawrence Falconer, Sibley.

THOMAS H. "TOM" WRAY
Thomas H. "Tom" Wray, 50, Independence, died Wednesday, July 13, 1999, at Research Medical Center.
Mr. Wray was born July 27, 1948, in Tiptonville, Tenn. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, working for many years at the main branch in Independence. He was a Navy veteran, and a member of the Dudes Car Club.
His survivors include his wife, Martha Wray of the home; three daughters, Lisa Wray, Tami Hill and Kim Wray, one grandson, Jacob Hill, and one sister, Janis Goodall, all of Turner, Kan.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake cemetery, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel.
BRITTANY N. ZEORNES
Brittany Nicole Zeornes, two-year-old daughter of Michael Zeornes and Bobbie Chappell of Kansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Children's Mercy Hospital.
Brittany was born June 1, 1996, in Kansas City.
Her survivors also include two brothers, Isaac Zeornes and Stanley Zeornes, and one sister, Mindy Zeornes, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Ed and Barbara Guinn, Kansas City, maternal grandparents, Bob and Betty Chappell, North Kansas City, and Jean Bodenhammer, Independence; paternal great-grandparents, Isaac and Margurite Guinn, Kansas City; and many aunts and uncles.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
DAVID A. DAVIS
David A. Davis, 83, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Davis was born in Sharp County, Ark., and had lived in the Independence area since 1945. He had been employed at Allis-Chalmers for 24 years and had been a member of the United Steelworkers of America local 1958. He was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church.
His survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Odelia Davis of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Terry Hill, Blue Springs; a brother, Zedric Davis, Grain Valley; two grandsons, Rodney Hill and Scott Hill; and a great-grandson, Brett David Hill, all of Blue Springs.
