KENNETH W. SCOTT
Kenneth W. Scott, 90, Independence, died Tuesday, March 3, in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Mr. Scott was born Feb. 16, 1908, in Smith Center, Kan. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of 39th Street RLDS Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Scott of the home; a daughter, Marjorie Hughart, Greensboro, N.C.; two sons, Jay C. Scott, Tulsa, Okla., and Larry Scott, Holland, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Carol Turner, Independence; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. March 26 at the 39th Street RLDS Church. Inurnment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity or to the Transformation 2000 Church Program, 15006 East 39th St., Independence, Mo. 64055.
LENA M. STUMFOLL
Lena M. Stumfoll, 86, Independence, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998, at the Maywood Terrace Living Center.
Mrs. Stumfoll was born Sept. 29, 1911, in Carona, Kan., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Stumfoll in 1981, her son, Robert L. Stumfoll in 1997, and two daughters, Barbara A. Teeple in 1991 and Delores M. Reich in 1984.
Her survivors include two daughters, Norma J. Douglas, Independence, and Betty L. Costigan, Oak Grove; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Highland Park cemetery in Pittsburg, Kan. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City, 7611 State Line, Suite 210, Kansas City, Mo. 64114, Cancer Research Institute or to St. Ann`s Catholic Church.
MARY E. MAHI
Mary Elizabeth Mahi, Lamoni, Iowa, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, Iowa.
Mrs. Mahi was born March 2, 1933, in Chariton, Iowa, and had lived in Ottumwa, Iowa, and Hawaii, before returning to Lamoni in 1991. She attended Ottumwa schools and graduated in 1951. She attended Graceland College for two years and then transferred to the Sanitarium in Independence, where she earned a bachelor`s degree in x-ray technology. She worked one year as an x-ray technician and then worked from 1967 until retiring in 1989 as an executive secretary in Honolulu, Hawaii, for Dean Witter Financial.She was an active member of the Bloomington RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kawailiula Mahi in 1991.
Her survivors include her sons, Kam Mahi and wife, Kindle, Blue Springs, and Kalani Mahi and wife, Chris, Peoria, Ill.; a brother, Bob Stark, Independence; three grandsons, Dane, Dustin and Brock; and a niece, Kelly Stark; and other relatives.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lamoni RLDS Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Lamoni. A memorial fund to the Bloomington Congregation of the RLDS Church has been established in her name.
OTIS E. "ED" SPEAKE
Otis Edward "Ed" Speake, 71, Independence, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Speake was born Nov. 6, 1926, in Springfield, Mo., and was a lifelong Kansas City and Independence area resident. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was an Army veteran of World War II, when he was awarded the Victory Medal.
His survivors include his wife, Maude Ellen Speake, Independence; a daughter, Jo Ellen Tucker, Denver; a stepson, Scott Hiedebrand, Parkville, Mo.; five stepdaughters, Cherrian West and Denise Fisher, both of Independence, Alnita Anderson, Grain Valley, Donna Rimmer, Blue Springs, and Diana Elbert, St. Louis; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 6 tonight at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Kansas City; cremation. Inurnment will be in Floral Hills East. Friends may call from 5 to 6 tonight at the chapel.
MARY H. CAUDILL
Mary Hazel Caudill, 87, Raytown, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at the Edgewood Manor Care Center in Raytown.
Mrs. Caudill was born May 20, 1910, in Strasburg, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City most of her life. She was a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Caudill.
Her survivors include a sister, Catherine Himes, Holden, Mo.; a daughter, Irma R. Hoyle, Independence; a son, Bill Caudill, Cole Camp, Mo.; two grandsons, Billy Gene Caudill and James Austin Caudill, both of Independence; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
EULALIA "EULA" HELM
Eulalia "Eula" Helm, 88, Independence, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Truman Medical Center East.
Mrs. Helm was born Dec. 2, 1909, in Yazoo City, Miss., and had lived in Independence for 50 years. She was a secretary for the Old American Insurance Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1978. Her husband, Donovan Helm, died in 1966.
Her survivors include a son, Douglas Helm, Independence; two daughters, Patricia Stout, Elko, Nev., and Olive Reppeto, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park cemetery, Lawrence, Kan. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.
MARY E. MAHI
Mary Elizabeth Mahi, 65, Lamoni, Iowa, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa.

FRANK E. SOUKUP SR.
Frank Edward Soukup Sr., 77, Park Rapids, Minn., died Friday, May 1, 1998, at the St. Joseph`s Area Hospital.
Mr. Soukup was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Omaha, Neb. He attended school in Omaha and graduated from North High School in 1939. Following graduation, he served for a year with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Nebraska. He served in the military as a staff sergeant with the 726th Bomb Squadron and was a paratrooper and commando in the European Theater of War. His military career was marked with numerous decorations for bravery and heroism, and in January 1945 he was notified of his receiving the Purple Heart and the Soldiers Medal. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. After his honorable discharge, he was an electrician and technician for the Watson Brothers Trucking Co. for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Alan Soukup in 1979.
His survivors include his wife, Helen Maxine Abram Soukup, Park Rapids; nine children and their spouses, James and Bronwen Soukup, Independence, Robert and Carol Soukup, Omaha, Neb., Mary Ann Skinner, Los Angeles, Frank Jr. and Barbara Soukup, Park Rapids, Timothy and Diane Soukup, Howard Lake, Minn., Kathleen Daugherty, Ponsford, Thomas and Linda Soukup, Omaha, Barbara Jean and Dale Derner, LeCenter, Minn., and David and Amparo Soukup, Montgomery, Minn.; a sister, Mildred Rotella, Omaha; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were today at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids. Burial was in Lakeport cemetery, near Laporte, Minn.

FREDERICK T. SPENCER JR.
Frederick Todd Spencer Jr., 83, Atlanta, Mo., died Monday, May 4, 1998, at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Mo.
Mr. Spencer was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Atlanta and was a lifelong Atlanta resident. He was a 1932 graduate of Atlanta High School, and a member of the Milam Chapel United Methodist Church until it closed, then moved his membership to the Callao United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Holman on Oct. 17, 1997, and a son-in-law, Howard Fink on April 30, 1990.
His survivors include his wife, Mary E. Sewell Spencer of the home; a daughter, Betty Sue Fink, Independence; a son, Larry Spencer, Macon, Mo.; a son-in-law, Roger Holman, Indianhead Park, Ill.; two brothers, Herman Spencer, Elmer, Mo., and Robert Spencer, Atlanta; three grandchildren, Kimberly Thollander, Gregory Holman and Steven Fink; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Ann Thollander.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Elliott Funeral Home, Atlanta, Mo. Burial will be in Milam Chapel cemetery, north of Bevier, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the cemetery association and may be left at the funeral home.
CARL A. WIDDERS
Carl A. Widders, 76, Independence, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Widders was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Springfield, Mo., and lived in Raytown from 1956 until moving to Independence in 1967. He was a pharmacist and had owned Carl`s Drugs in Independence. He also had worked for Cascio`s Pharmacy and Crown Drug, both in Independence, retiring in 1983. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater and was a master sergeant and pharmacist in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ila L. Widders in 1985, and a daughter, Carlyla Widders in 1951.
His survivors include his wife, Helen Collier-Widders of the home; two daughters, Ilana M. Widders-Wilhelmsen, and her husband, Henry K., Springfield, Ore., and Andyla L. Widders-Hollmann, and her husband, Dan, Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Ray Widders, Anderson, Mo.; Mr. Widders` grandchildren, Kyla Shuttleworth and Kali Wilhelmsen, both of Springfield, Ore., Cassie Hollmann and Carlie Hollmann, both of Overland Park, and Hugo Ortiz, Independence; and Mrs. Widders` grandchildren, Jessica Fuqua, Independence, and Leroy Crumet and Sadie Crumet, both of Lawrence, Kan.
No funeral services will be held. He donated his body to science at the Osteopathic Hospital. Flowers may be sent to his home or contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice of the Northland.
JANE A. GAUDUTIS
Jane A. Gaudutis, 50, Odessa, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Gaudutis was born July 5, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kan., and had lived in Odessa since 1982. She was a 1965 graduate of St. Mary`s-Colgan High School, Pittsburg, and a 1967 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Fort Scott, Kan. She did post graduate work in nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center, St. Luke`s Hospital, Research Medical Center and Bethany Hospital. Her memberships and recognitions include the Confirmation Ministry, St. George`s Catholic Church, Odessa; 1985, the Bishop Recognition for Church Service in Youth Ministry, Kansas City Diocese; 1994, The Odessan "Lafayette County People;" 1996-1998, volunteer, Cancer Hot Line, R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Kansas City; 1970, Kansas State Counsel of Practice _ American Nurses Assoc., Statewide coordinator for educational programs regarding new laws. She was head nurse, ICU/CCU at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, from 1968 to 1975; was clinical instructor at the KC VoTech School in Kansas City from 1978 to 1980; Director of Nursing, Truman Neurological Center, Kansas City, from 1994-1996; and was clinical instructor for Lex-La-Ray VoTech School from 1996-1997.
Her survivors include her husband, Paul Gaudutis of the home; a son, Joe Gaudutis of the home; two daughters, Christi and Katie Gaudutis of the home; and four sisters, Jean Falke, Odessa, Mary Jo Homolka, Farmington, N.M., Joyce Feder, Stilwell, Kan., and Linda Collar, Pittsburg.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa, where the rosary will be said at 6 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Hotline, R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Kansas City.
BIANTHA C. MARTIN
Biantha C. Martin, 78, Independence, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Guymon, Okla., and had lived in Independence the past 40 years. She was a member of Mount Washington United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay F. Martin in 1992.
Her survivors include two sons, Bill Martin and Larry Martin, both of Independence; three daughters, Jonette Lee, Olathe, Kan., Connie O`Donnell, Lee`s Summit, and Kathy Wardle, Grain Valley; a brother, Bob Rathgeber, Kiowa, Kan.; two sisters, Christine Corr, Alva, Okla., and Patt Patterson, Woodward, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
VIRGINIA L. BARRETT
Virginia Lucille Barrett, 79, Independence, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Barrett was born Nov. 27, 1998, in Argentine, Kan., and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren D. Barrett.
Her survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Lynda and Don Keith, and Sharon Whiting, all of Independence; a grandson, Kenneth Keith; two great-grandchildren, Chad Whiting and Deanna Whiting; and a niece, Betty J. Scott.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
GAIL R. BERRY
Gail R. Berry, 88, Independence, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Berry was born Feb. 3, 1910, in Iberia, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a crane operator for Armco Steel for 40 years before he retired. He was a member of the 39th Street Church of Christ, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Opal Berry, died April 12, 1994.
He is survived by a sister, Edna Crosby of Independence.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
