SCOTT W. CLARKE

Scott William Clarke, 39, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Clarke was born Dec. 12, 1958, in Terre Haute, Ind. He worked for both O`Dell Tractors of Independence, and as a newspaper carrier for the Kansas City Star for the past five years. He was a 1978 graduate of Blue Springs High School, and a member of the Praise Tabernacle Church of God, Independence.

His survivors include his wife, Gay Clarke, a son, Daniel Scott Clarke, and three daughters, Amber Clarke, Brooke Clarke and Catrina Clark, all of the home; his parents, Donald and Janice Clarke, Punta Gorda, Fla.; two brothers, Ron Clark, El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Brad Clarke, Lee`s Summit; and a sister, Dona Boley, Blue Springs.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hopewell cemetery, Montrose, Mo. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Cancer Action, 12401 E. 43rd St., Suite 100, Independence, Mo. 64055, or the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plains, Ill. 60018, or Childrens Memorial Trust Fund, in care of Midwest Heritage Bank, 1525 E. 23rd St., Independence, Mo. 64055.

LINDA S. LAWTON

Linda S. Lawton, 49, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, in Independence.

Mrs. Lawton was born March 4, 1949, in Fond du Lac, Wis. She was the manager of Sheraton Suites.

Her survivors include her parents, Gary D. Voysey and Sieglinde Voysey of Gravois Mills, Mo.; a daughter, Chantelle Krizek, Blue Springs; a son, Shaun Krizek, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; two sisters, Sylvia Leach, Independence, and Tammy Shimek, Forest Junction, Wis.; two brothers, Craig Voysey, Manitowoc, Wis., and Dale Voysey, Lake Winnebago, Mo.; and her companion, Bob Riedesel.

Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Cancer Action.

MARTHA A. SQUIRES

Martha Ann Squires, 65, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Eugene and James Eugene.

Her survivors include her husband, Carl Eugene; a son, Mark Alan; a daughter, Sharon Ann Bryant; a brother, James B. McQuerry; two sisters, Mary Colston and Joan Fox; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel.

MISTY K. STAVES

Misty Kristeen Staves, 21, Vermilion, Ohio, formerly of Raytown, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998.

Miss Staves was born Jan. 13, 1977, in Raytown, and lived in Raytown until moving to Vermilion eight years ago. She was a deli clerk for the Amherst (Ohio) Convenience Store. During her high school years at Vermilion High School, she was involved in the soccer program. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dc Forest Staves in 1982.

Her survivors include her parents, David C. and Nancy J. DiManna Staves, Vermilion; her mother, Cynthia Dumas, Houston; three brothers, Robert James Good, Raytown, James Anthony Good, U.S. Air Force Base, Ramstein, Germany, and Christopher Howard, Houston; a sister, Danielle M. Staves of the home; maternal grandparents, Alfa Elvin, Houston, and Gary Dumas, Topeka; and her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Staves, Independence.

Services were Friday in Amherst. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Vermilion Education Foundation, 1250 Sanford St., Vermilion, Ohio 44089, or the Vermilion Athletic Booster Club, 1414 Lexington Ave., Vermilion, Ohio 44089. Arrangements were under the direction of Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst.

MARTELLE E. SHOEMAKER

Martelle Elizabeth Shoemaker, 93, Independence, died Tuesday, July 28, 28, 1998, at the Oakwood Manor.

Mrs. Shoemaker was born April 15, 1905, in Angola, Ind., and had lived in Independence for more than 44 years. She was an elementary teacher in rural school and had clerked in a dress shop. In later years she was a secretary for the Benton School and then the RLDS church. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ South Crysler Restoration Branch.

Her survivors include her husband, Dale Shoemaker of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carmen Shoemaker, Raymore, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and William Ruoff, Independence; a sister, Rachel Holubetz, Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Steven Ruoff, Mark Ruoff, Jill Ruoff, Timothy Ruoff, Lynnette Calder, Greg Shoemaker and Dana Shelton; and 11 great-grandchildren, Kimie, Chad, Jenna, Amy, Clairissa Ruoff, Cam and Caleb Calder, Aubrey and Curtis Shoemaker, Ashley and Megan Shelton.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

CEPHIS J. "JAY" SMITH

Cephis Jayden "Jay" Smith, 66, Independence, died Wednesday, July 29, 1996, at Independence Manor Care Center.

Mr. Smith was born April 24, 1932, in Elizabeth, Ark. He retired in 1997, as a sales representative for Forklifts Inc. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the military police. He was a member of the McDonald Masonic Lodge and a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple.

His survivors include his wife of 46 years, M. Rhudene Smith of the home; two sons, Greggory Smith and Timothy Smith, and a daughter, Sherwyn Willoughby, all of Lee's Summit; two sisters, Nina Adams, Grain Valley, and Sue Yourtee, Raymore, Mo.; a half sister, Mary Hamilton, Tulsa, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Heather and Aaron Giddings, Georgia, Jaimie and Alex Smith; and Tabetha Smith.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.

GEORGE G. BOONE

George Glenn Boone, 96, Independence, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Boone was born May 25, 1902, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He had been a self-employed carpenter, specializing in stadium and theater chairs, and was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1329. He was of the Methodist faith.

His survivors include his wife of 72 years, Bertha Boone of Independence; one son, George G. Boone Jr., Sunrise Beach, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Catherine Strand, Syracuse, N.Y., Betty Parlee Hurley, Juneau, Alaska, and Donna Rae Seward, Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

OSCAR S. CONNOLLY III

Oscar Sherman Connolly III, 46, Independence, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Mr. Connolly was born May 5, 1952, in Tucson, Ariz., and had lived in this area for 13 years. He was a waiter for many years, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

His survivors include one son, Oscarr Sherman Connolly IV, Raytown; two daughters, Christine Connolly, Arizona, and Kayla Lynn Connolly of the home; his fiance, Tina Davis of the home; his mother, Aggie Lancaster, Dallas; and two brothers, David Lancaster and Michael Lancaster.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Allen Family cemetery, Osceola, Mo. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

PERCY M. JENKINS

Percy Melford Jenkins, 91, Lamoni, Iowa, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Jenkins was born Sept. 12, 1906, in Dallas County, Iowa, and lived in Iowa and Minnesota before moving to Independence in 1950. In 1972, he moved to Panora, Iowa, and to Lamoni in 1985. He was a 1926 graduate and valedictorian of Redfield (Iowa) High School, and then attended Graceland College, Lamoni. He was a street cleaner for the city of Independence, and was an auto mechanic and operated filling stations in Independence and Panora. Earlier, he farmed in Iowa and had a dairy farm in Minnesota. He nearly completed the building of his two-passenger, single-engine, prop airplane that he was building from blueprints. He also designed some of his own tools to custom build his plane. He had had his pilot's license since the late 1940s, and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, having received the Chapter Aviation Achievement Award. He was also a violinist. He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1923, and was ordained a priest on April 18, 1965. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Marion Jenkins and Daniel Jenkins.

His survivors include his wife of 67 years, Alice Jenkins of Lamoni; one son and daughter-in-law, Jared and Zona Jenkins, Roseburg, Ore.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Joan Scribner, Independence, and Jeanette and Jerry Alsup, Ballwin, Mo.; one sister, Jeanne Forrest; six grandchildren, Carrie Davis, Edward Jenkins, Cheryl Brown, Cindy Doggendorff, Debra Shemwell, and Kenneth Scribner; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lamoni RLDS Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Lamoni. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

MARY C. WARD

Mary Catherine Moore Ward of Independence, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Ward was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Boonville, Mo., and lived in Pilot Grove, Mo., and Kansas City before moving to Independence. She was a graduate of Northeast High School. She had been a Southern Baptist all of her life and was presently a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher and on the Memorial Committee. She served as a board member and room mother at both Benton Elementary and William Chrisman High School.

Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, John F. Ward; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patty A. Brown, Independence, Cathy C. and Jim Shull, Odessa, and Joni L. and Jurel McCracken Jr., Blue Springs; two brothers, Richard D. Moore, Blue Springs, and Lee R. Moore, Independence; one sister, Jo Ann White, Independence; seven grandchildren, Douglas W., David W., Darrin W. and Christina L. Brown, Amanda W. Shull, Joshua B. and Jessica L. McCracken; five great-granchildren, Matthew J., Danielle W., Jared W., Zachary A. and Erika M. Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1915 N. Liberty St. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church.

NEAL S. CAMPBELL

Neal S. Campbell, 77, Camillus, N.Y., died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at Community-General Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Campbell was born in Buckner, and had lived in Buckner for approximately 20 years. He then lived in DeWitt, N.Y., from 1953 to 1957 before moving to Camillus in 1957. He was an engineer with General Electric Co. in Syracuse for 32 years before retiring in 1985. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics and education at Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, and a master's degree in physics from the University of Missouri. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Josselyn Stone Broadwell Campbell; four sons, Neal S. Campbell, San Jose, Calif., David B. Campbell, Oak Ridge, Tenn., D. Blair Campbell, Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Scott S. Campbell, Homer, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Buranich Funeral Home in Camillus. The burial will be private. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus, N.Y. 13031.

MODELLE COOPER

Modelle Cooper, 90, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at the Blue Springs Care Center.

Mrs. Cooper was born Aug. 2, 1908, in Huntsville, Mo. She was a bookkeeper for the masonry business owned by her husband, Ralph C. Cooper, who preceded her in death. She was of the Methodist Faith. She was also preceded in death by a son, Max Cooper.

Her survivors include three brothers, H.A. Gunn, Hawthorne, Nev., Donald Gunn, Moberly, Mo., and Gene Gunn, Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Erleene Stein, Orlando, Fla., Martha Wilson, Las Vegas, Nev., and Barbara Burns, Texhoma, Okla.; and a niece, Kendra Dietrich, Blue Springs.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oakland cemetery, Moberly. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

MARGARET M. MORREY

Margaret Mary Morrey of Blue Springs died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998.

Mrs. Morrey was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., and lived in Festus and Cape Girardeau in Missouri, and Coffeyville, Kan., before moving to Blue Springs. While in Festus, she was one of the early leaders of the Junior Great Books program at Our Lady's School, and while in Cape Girardeau, she was a member of the League of Women Voters, AAUW, and St. Vincent's Sodality. She was also a contributing columnist to the diocesan paper. She received a bachelor's degree in education in 1942 from St. Mary's College, Xavier, Kan. During her stay in Coffeyville, she tutored children, served with the Meals on Wheels, and belonged to the Welcome Wagon. She attended Holy Name parish where she taught CCD and was a member of St. Theresa's Circle of the Altar Society and Eucharistic minister.

Her survivors include her husband of 54 years, Thomas F. Morrey of Blue Springs; seven children, Mary Anne Cresto, Union City, Calif., Monica Bayer, Gainesville, Fla., Rosemary Gianelli, Stockton, Calif., Jane Parkin, Nashua, N.H., Joseph Morrey, St.

Joseph, Mo., Ellen Trakas, Blue Springs, and Tom Morrey, Morrison, Colo.; a sister, Genevieve Lueckenhoff, Kansas City; five sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; and 18 grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, Coffeyville. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home.
