LUCILLE B. RAMSEY
Lucille B. "Lucy" Ramsey, 76, Independence, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Ramsey was born March 31, 1921.
Her survivors include her husband of 56 years, Chester Ramsey, Kansas City; a sister, Elizabeth Valentine, Kansas City; a brother, Robert Baber Sr., Independence; and several nieces, nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Charter Funerals/Earp & Sons Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Rockwood Baptist Church, 10035 E. Westport Road, Independence, Mo. 64052.
WILFORD L. SIDEBOTTOM
Wilford L. Sidebottom, 78, Kansas City, died Monday, March 2, 1998 at the Carondelet Manor.
Mr. Sidebottom was born June 14, 1919, in Eugene, Mo. He attended high school in Paonia, Colo. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and continued to serve until his retirement in 1968. He attained the rank of Lt. Colonel having served in both World War II and the Korean War. Among his honors were the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He was an avid golfer and active in the Masonic Lodge, having served as past master of Lodge 320 in Versailles, Mo. He was a member of the Riverside Baptist Church in Grand Junction, Colo.
His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Oleta Sidebottom, Kansas City; two sons, Gerald Sidebottom, Grandview, and Ronald Sidebottom, Woodridge, Ill.; three granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Leavenworth (Kan.) National cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, where Masonic services will be 8 p.m.
WENDY G. CARTER WATKINS
Wendy G. Carter Watkins, 34, Wintergarden, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at a hospital in Wintergarden.
Mrs. Watkins was born Dec. 12, 1963, in Independence, and had lived in Independence until moving to Florida in 1997.
She was a homemaker.
Her survivors include her husband, Kenny Watkins, two sons, Jeffrey Carter and Alex Carter, all of Wintergarden; her mother and stepfather, Pauline Schaller and Richard Schaller, both of Belton; four sisters, Tonnie Moore, Orlando, Fla., Diane Voyles, Fort Myers, Fla., Debbie Kolberg, Wright City, Mo., and Tammy Smith, Independence; two brothers, Farron Jones, Wright City, Mo., and Tim Jones, Odessa.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Charity Missionary Baptist Church, 9300 Independence Ave., Independence. Cremation, with burial in Belton at a later date. Flowers will be accepted at the church Saturday morning. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
JUDITH A. BUTLER
Judith Ann Butler, 50, Independence, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, near Iatan, Mo.
Mrs. Butler was born Oct. 15, 1947, in Atchison, Kan., and moved to Independence in 1963. She was formerly employed by Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, and for the past 15 years was a daycare provider in her home. She was a former member of the Sacred Heart Church in Atchison, attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated in 1963 from Mount St. Scholastica Academy.
Her survivors include one son, Richard Eugene Butler of the home; one daughter, Michelle Lynn Fanning, Independence; her father, Virgil "Skip" Loftin, Atchison; seven sisters, Raynette Mueller, Oakley, Kan., Michey Lash, Gladstone, Mo., Theresa Handke and LaDonna Book, both of Independence, Betty Jo Hughes, St. Joseph, Mo., Shirley Simpson, Rushville, Mo., and Barbara Wilburn, Atchison; two grandchildren, Heather Michelle and Marcus Bradley Fanning; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, Atchison. A parish rosary will be recited at 7 tonight at the funeral home, with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions in her memory to the Judith Butler Memorial Fund.
RUTH F. GORDON
Ruth Fay Gordon, 79, Odessa, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Gordon was born Dec. 23, 1918, southwest of Odessa, and had been an Odessa resident all her life. She had been a bookkeepter for J.B. Hereford Clothing Store, Thomas Ford Motor Co. of Odessa, Lake City Arsenal during World War II, and a dance instructor for the Arthur Murry Dance Studio, Kansas City. She was a 1937 graduate of Odessa High School and Missouri State Teacher`s College, Warrensburg. She was preceded in death by her husbands, A.F. "Bud" Gordon in 1979 and Leland Sanders in 1942. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Odessa.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jim Grechus, St. Joseph, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Rosalie Gordon, Kauai, Hawaii; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Elizabeth and Anthony Turpin, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Georgia Simpson, Orland, Fla.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Grechus; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services were today at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial was in the Odessa cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the First United Methodist Church, Odessa.
PATRICIA L. WISER
Patricia Lea Wiser, 65, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Wiser was born May 30, 1933, in Liberty, Mo. She was an underwriter for Royal Insurance Co., for 28 years until her retirement in 1991.
Her survivors include her sons, John Wiser, Blue Springs, and Michael Ogelsby, Olathe, Kan.; her brother, William Rose, Liberty, Mo.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church Archer Pasley Funeral Home, Liberty, Mo. Private inurnment will be in Fairview cemetery, Kearney. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
SHIRLEY D. CARPENTER
Shirley D. Carpenter, 69, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. She was of the Catholic faith, and was the First Lady of Independence from 1990 to 1994. She was preceded in death by a son, Terry Gaston.
Her survivors include her husband of 38 years, Bill Carpenter of the home; two sons, Larry Shields, Kansas City, and Delbert Gaston, Independence; a stepson, Michael D. Carpenter, and a daughter, Kimberlee A. Olah, both of Independence; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at New Salem Funeral Home.
LAURA M. CARR
Laura Michelle Carr, 17, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Blue Springs.
Laura was born April 20, 1981, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a senior at Blue Springs High School, and was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, James H. Ellison Sr., an uncle, James H. Ellison Jr., and an aunt, Jeanie Gastineau.
Her survivors include her parents, Kenney and Judee Carr, a son, Devon Carr, and two sisters, Samantha Carr and Erica Carr, all of the home; maternal grandmother, Maisie Ellison, Chillicothe, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Harvey and Bonnie Carr, Trenton, Mo.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Columbans cemetery, Chillicothe. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Devon Carr Memorial for College Education, and may be left at Speaks Suburban on Friday, or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Mo. 64601. Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home.
MARJORIE H. CUSIC
Marjorie H. Cusic, 75, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Cusic was born June 13, 1923, in Kansas City, and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a member of the Sheffield Family Life Center.
Her survivors include her husband, Marty L. Cusic of the home; two daughters, Deloris Farmer and Marlene Cusic, both of Independence; a sister, Opal Lampkin, Raytown; two grandchildren, Rick VanDolah, Kansas City, and Joe VanDolah, Blue Springs; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.
WANDA M. GARVER
Wanda May Garver, 69, Oak Grove, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Garver was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Fairmount, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. She formerly owned Harley-Davidson of Kansas City and Independence Honda. She had also been an accountant for Culp & Fox, P.C. She was an honorary member of Freedom of Road Riders, and attended the Disciples of Jesus Ministries in Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Garver in 1975, and two children, Ruth Ann Garver and David Garver.
Her survivors include a daughter, Kathy Stephens, Oak Grove; a brother, H. Bruce Pressly, Belton, Mo.; and many other family members.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Disciples of Jesus Ministries, 9414 E. Truman Road, Independence.
JUDITH A. McKANNA
Judith Ann McKanna, 46, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. McKanna was born Dec. 23, 1951, in Kansas City, and lived in Smithville, Mo., before moving to Independence 25 years ago. She was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing, and spent more than 25 years as a nurse. She was involved in hospital, infusion and home care nursing as a registered nurse and CRNI. She was the administrator and director of Clinical Services at Interium Health Care, Overland Park, Kan.
Her survivors include a son, Larry D. Riffle, Independence; two daughters, Megan M. Riffle, Independence, and Jessie Cannady of the home; her parents, Floyd and Gena McKanna, Luray, Kan.; three sisters, Dianna Carroll, Wasola, Mo., Janette Nixon, Luray, and Lora Spencer, Independence; two grandchildren, Caitlyn and MaKaylah Riffle; and a special friend, the Rev. Kenneth Simpson, Prairie Village, Kan.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a fund for her children, in care of Blue Ridge Bank, 4315 Sterling, Kansas City, Mo. 64133.
LOUIS A. TRITICO
Retired Judge Louis Anthony Tritico, 81, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Tritico was born March 20, 1917, in Kansas City. In addition to his law practice, he had served as municipal judge in Kansas City and a federal judge for the Social Security Administration. He was a member and past president of UNICO, and an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Christine Tritico, died in 1994.
His survivors include his wife, Patricia Fry Tritico of the home; two sons, L. Mike Tritico, Rayville, Mo., and Bill of Kansas City; a daughter, Margaret Andes, Independence; a brother, Newton Joseph Tritico, Kansas City; two stepsons, David Fry and Darrin Fry; two stepdaughters, Patricia Lackland and Shirley Williams; eight grandchildren; and 15 stepgrandchildren.
Mass will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 Lee's Summit Road; cremation. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, where a rosary will be held at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Truman Heartland Gift of Hope Hospice, 300 N. Osage Ave., Independence, Mo. 64050. Arrangements are under the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
WILLIAM BROWN
William Brown, 73, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Brown was born March 18, 1925, in Powderly, Ky., and had lived in the Independence area for 48 years. He was a brick mason for 50 years, and was active in BAC Local 4, serving as a business representative. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a 1st Class electrician aboard the USS Whitney, and was a member of the Grain Valley Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Brown of the home; four children, Kathy Mueller, Florida, Nancy Roberts, Blue Springs, Becky Brown, Independence, and Les Brown, Bates City; a brother, Zane Brown, Independence; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Children's Mercy Oncology Department.
RUTH E. DAVIS
Ruth E. Davis, 99, Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in the Fayetteville Nursing Center.
Mrs. Davis was born Sept. 23, 1899, in Lawrence, Kan., and had lived in Blue Springs, Springfield and Galena, all in Missouri. She was a member of McCord (Mo.) Baptist Church in Galena, Mo. She was a lifetime member and past matron of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Keith Davis, Mountain View, Ark.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Rivermonte cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of the Greenlawn Funeral Home, South, Springfield, Mo.
