CARROLL F. WEDDLE
Carroll F. Weddle, 68, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Weddle was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 26 years, retiring in 1993. He was a Marine Corps veteran and a member of American Legion Post 21. He had been active in Scouting and was an Eagle Scout.
His survivors include his wife, Barbara Smith of the home; three sons, David Weddle, Independence, Matthew Weddle, Blue Springs, and Norman Weddle, Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Paula Cayer, Odessa; one brother, Curtis Weddle, Sallisaw, Okla.; one sister, Virginia Trowbridge, Kansas City; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
RAYMOND A. PETERS
Raymond A. Peters, 40, Aurora, Colo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, May 22, 1999, in Creede, Colo.
Mr. Peters was born Nov. 19, 1958, in Independence and lived in Independence until moving to Colorado eight years ago. He was a computer technician for Tech-America and a computer consultant for Prime Star. He was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Peters in 1990, and a brother, Kenneth Peters in 1992.
His survivors include his mother, Benedean Peters, and three brothers, John H. Peters, Ronald L. Peters and Kevin K. Peters, all of Independence; and two sisters, Susan M. Hale, Lone Jack, and Sharon K. Crowe, Independence.
Mass of Christian burial will be 9 p.m. Thursday at St. MarkÕs Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
MELVA E. MINTON
Melva Eleanor Minton, 78, Grain Valley, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Ms. Minton was born Nov. 5, 1920, in New Canton, Ill., and lived in Independence before moving to Globe, Ariz., in 1962. She returned to Independence in 1992. She worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant and later became a secretary to Elmer B. Hodges, a Kansas City attorney. She worked for the Council of Twelve for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the office of the first presidency where, altogether, she spent almost 13 years. While in Globe, she worked for a short time for an attorney, then spent 16 years in the county supervisors office, retiring in 1983. She taught Sunday school at the RLDS Stone Church and the Auditorium for many years, and belonged to the church choir. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch, Colbern Road congregation.
She is survived by a sister, Veta, of the home; and many cousins and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
ORVILLE J. "RED" MILLMAKER
Orville J. "Red" Millmaker, 72, Independence, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Liberty Hospital.
Mr. Millmaker was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Piedmont, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area since 1968. He was a grade checker for Heavy Construction Union Local 663, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Silver Dollar Square Dance Club and was of the Baptist faith.
His survivors include his wife, Sharon Millmaker of the home; one son, John Kenneth Millmaker, Blue Springs; two daughters, Karin Dover and Kathy OÕDell, both of Kansas City; a brother, Melvin Millmaker, Yuma, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Lisa Clark, Tulsa, Okla., and Angela Martinez, Overland Park, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Brian and Frances.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Orville J. Millmaker Memorial Fund.
NEAWANNA L. COEN
Neawanna Lee Carpenter Coen of Grain Valley, formerly of Independence, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at the Carrollton (Mo.) Nursing Home.
Mrs. Coen was born Dec. 30, 1922, and lived in Independence before moving to Grain Valley in 1963. She had a successful career in electronics, and had attended night school in the secretarial field. She retired early in her career and raised champion German shepherd show dogs.
Her survivors include three children, Clarence E. Coen Jr., Phoenix, Ariz., Neawanna Sloan, Grain Valley, and Sonja Callaway, Kingsville, Mo.; two brothers, Francis Carpenter and William "Bill" Carpenter, both of Independence; six grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery, LeeÕs Summit. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
PATSY R. FRAZIER
Patsy R. Frazier, 68, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jami and Dan Kester, Grain Valley, and Carla and Lyndle Hoaglin, Independence; grandchildren, Shaina and Ryan Kester, and Ashley and James Hoaglin; one brother, Ronald Shadwick, and one sister, Harriet Roe, both of Colorado Springs; a niece, Cheri Rice, and a nephew, Darrel Hendricks, both of Aurora, Colo.; an aunt, Edna Kramer, Bakersfield, Calif.; and several cousins.
Cremation. No services are scheduled at this time. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, Kan. 66212 or the American Lung Association, 2007 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo. 64108.
J.D. FIZER
J.D. Fizer, 82, Independence, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Fizer was born Aug. 23, 1916, in Odessa, and lived in Harrisonville, Mo., and Lee's Summit before moving to Independence in 1973. He was a commercial construction laborer for Local 264, working in this area for 35 years, and was a member of the International Laborer Union of Greater Kansas City. He was also a member of Noland Road Baptist Church and the Independence American Association of Retired Persons. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brooke Snyder.
His survivors include his wife, Marie Lueck Fizer of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Sharon Fizer and Don and Mary Lou Pragman, all of Odessa, and Jim and Linda Pragman, Raytown; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Judy and Dwain Keck, Becky and Bob Barker, and Jeanne Berry, all of Odessa, and Joyce and Jim Kempton, Blue Springs; a sister, Susie Martin, Odessa; two brothers, Bill Fizer, Holden, Mo., and Herb Fizer, Warrensburg, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Long Branch Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
EDWARD AUFDERHEIDE
Edward Aufderheide, 74, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Aufderheide was born May 25, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the manager of the KC Men's Club for many years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Odd Fellows Lodge 497 in Blue Springs. His wife, Lillian Mae Aufderheide, died in 1991.
His survivors include two daughters, Joy E. Jackson, Kansas City, and Cheryle A. Lee, Blue Springs; three sons, Albert Monteil, Polo, Mo., Joseph Monteil, Cleveland, Mo., and Charles Monteil Jr., Kansas City; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, with Odd Fellow services beginning at 7:30 p.m.; cremation. The family suggests contributions to Odd Fellow Lodge 497.
DANIEL PRATHER
Daniel Prather, 88, Topeka, Kan., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in a nursing home in Topeka.
Mr. Prather was born Aug. 11, 1910, in Independence, and had lived in Independence for most of his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ on Lacy Road in Independence, where he was very active in church functions. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Ballew in 1967.
His survivors include his wife, Florence Prather, Topeka; two sons, Noel Prather, Independence, and David Prather, Red Springs, N.C.; four stepsons, Warren "Buster" Ballew and Charles "Tiny" Ballew, both of Independence, Jessie Ballew, Odessa, and Ray Norton, Terre Haute, Ind.; three stepdaughters, Barbara Ulmo and Alice Swan, both of Topeka, and Alice Ballew Nasta, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Evelyn Kearns, Wylie, Texas, and a half-brother, Ray Nichelson, Independence; and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Washington cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 8 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lacy Road Church of Christ, Independence.
MARY N. FAHERTY
Mary Nivarde Coleman Faherty, 83, LaGrange Park, Ill., died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Faherty was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Kingsville, Mo., and had lived in LaGrange Park for the past three years. She attended the Ralston High School and Holden High School. In 1937 she completed nurse's training at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mackay Coleman, and her second husband, George E. Faherty.
Her survivors include a son, Michael Coleman, Kansas City; and a daughter, Mary Patricia Hensley, LaGrange Park.
Services will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet cemetery, Kingsville. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.
ROSALENE HOOTZ
Rosalene Hootz, 64, Warsaw, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at the Cornerstone Care Center in Lakewood, Colo.
Mrs. Hootz was born March 27, 1934, in Oak Grove, and had lived in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Warsaw. She was a graduate of Oak Grove High School. She had been an Avon lady, and had worked at Sloan's Printing in Mission, Kan. She retired from Ohio Casualty in Overland Park, Kan. She was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Rose DeFries.
Her survivors include a son, Michael A. Hootz Sr., Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Karen L. Geiger, Lakewood, Colo.; four sisters, Mary Anna Wood, Warsaw, Georgia Rae Mastin, Independence, Ida Mae Meyerdirk, Seymour, Mo., and Bonnie Sue Jones, Stuartsville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
CHRISTOPHER L. BROYLES
Christopher L. Broyles, 46, Salem, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Broyles was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Kansas City, and had lived in Salem for the past three years. He was a truck driver for Roadway Trucking. He was a member of Teamsters Local 245. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
His survivors include his companion, Susan Hawks Broyles, Salem; a son, Michael Broyles, Lawrenceville, Ga.; two daughters, Maureen Broyles, Lawrenceville, and Memoree Broyles, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Richard Broyles, Omaha, Michael Broyles, Vista, Calif., and Charlie Broyles, Cromwell, Conn.; a sister, Carolyn Barry, Vista, Calif.; and his mother, Charlotte Broyles, Harrisonville, Mo.

JOHN M. BOWLING
John M. Bowling, 73, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Charter Funerals/Blue Ridge Chapel, 5000 Blue Ridge Cutoff, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel.
NORA M. BROWN
Nora May Brown, 85, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Brown ws born in Mapleton, Iowa, and had lived in the Independence area since 1985. She was a homemaker and a member of the Restoration Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Brown in 1976, and a daughter, Betty Malone in 1969.
Her survivors include a son, Edwin Graves, Canyon Lake, Texas; a daughter, Evelyn Norman, Independence; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Memorial services will be at a later date.
LEONARD C. HELMA
Leonard C. Helma, 74, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at St. Mary's Manor of Blue Springs.
Mr. Helma was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Brule, S.D. He was a 1950 graduate of South Dakota State University. He was a civil engineer. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion Post 499 and VFW Post 1000. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was an usher and lector at St. John's LaLande Church.
His survivors include his wife, Dolores Helma, Blue Springs; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Garrit van Huissteda, Scottsdale, Ariz., Anne and David Cenedella, St. Louis, and Patricia and Steve Mueller, Bismarck, N.D.; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Karen Helma, Mica, Wash., Gregory and Janet Helma, Exton, Pa., and Thomas and Jeanne Helma, Wakefield, R.I.; two sisters, Libbie Armstrong, Port Townsend, Wash., and Elsie Petula, Kimball, S.D.; and two brothers, Allen Helma, Concord, Calif., and Robert Helma, Kimball, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, Kimball. Burial will be in St. Margaret's cemetery.
