STEPHEN BARBER III
Stephen Barber III, 26, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999.
Mr. Barber was employed by the Kansas City Southern Railroad for seven years. He was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a 1990 graduate of Blue Springs High School and had attended Blue Springs Community College. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 813 in Blue Springs. He was a past-member of the Golf Superintendents Association, and had been assistant superintendent for Chapel Woods Golf Course. He was a Catholic. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tudie Solito in 1998, and his grandmother, Katherine Barber.
His survivors include his father, Steve Barber Jr., and his mother, Mary Solito Barber; a sister, Amanda Barber; his grandmother, Mary Solito; and his grandfather, Steve Barber.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 East 51st Terrace, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at the church, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Passantino Brothers Funeral home.
BRAD B. BAKER
Brad Benton Baker, 46, Cuba, Mo., formerly of Odessa, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Baker was born Nov. 7, 1952, in Odessa. He was elected prosecuting attorney for Crawford County, Steelville, Mo., in 1994. He had a private practice in Cuba, Mo., was formerly employed by Committee of Legislative Research for the Missouri General Assembly, Jefferson City, Mo.; Nevada State Legislature, Carson City, Nev.; Appellate Division of Missouri Public Defender, Columbia. He was a 1971 graduate of Odessa High School, a 1976 graduate of Washington University, St. Louis, with a major in history and graduated in 1979 from St. Louis University, Law School. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 77 and A.F.&A.M., Lebanon, Mo. He was of the Catholic faith.
His survivors include his mother, Joyce D. Baker, Sunrise Beach, Mo.; a brother, Max Baker, Arlington, Texas; a nephew, Ben Baker; and a niece, Johanna Baker.
Services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo., and at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. There will be no visitation service. The family suggests contributions to Lebanon Lodge 77, A.F.& A.M.
GEORGE R. TERRYBERRY
George Richard Terryberry, 57, Newport, Ore., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
Mr. Terryberry was born July 16, 1941, in Independence, and had lived in California before moving to Newport 14 years ago. He was a station manager for Frontier Airlines in Kansas City and Stockton, Calif. He was a Navy veteran, a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Terryberry on Jan. 27, 1996.
His survivors include one son, Shawn Corey Terryberry, Marshall, Mo.; a stepson, Kevin Kornegay, Mcminnville, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Becky Lamma, Newport, and Shelly Kornegay, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; his mother, Blanche B. Haddock, Independence; one brother, Alfred E. Terryberry, Independence; and three stepsisters, Linda Edson and Vicky Glass, both of Independence, and Patty Hamilton, Kansas City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
WILLIAM "BILL" CAVANAUGH
William "Bill" Cavanaugh, 57, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Cavanaugh was born March 27, 1941, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He was an accountant and was employed as a controller/treasurer at Tompkins Bearings for many years, retiring in 1984. He served in the Air Force Reserves and was a member of St. Mark`s Catholic Church.
His survivors include his wife, Judy Cavanaugh of the home; three children, Maureen Ann Hurd, Parkville, Mo., Patrick Joseph Cavanaugh, Overland Park, Kan., and Anne Elizabeth Bledsoe, Independence; two grandchildren; Colleen Marie Cavanaugh and Sean Joseph Hurd; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery, Lenexa, Kan. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to Multiple Sclerosis Society Research.
LUCILE DUGGER
Lucile Dugger, 83, Independence, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.
Mrs. Dugger was born April 23, 1915, in Weir City, Kan., and had lived in this area since 1949. She was a cafeteria manager for the Independence School District for many years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Second Church RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Dugger on April 9, 1996.
Her survivors include her husband, Willard Dugger; her children, Betty Sturgis, Independence, Dr. Donald Dugger, and his wife, Susie, Marlborough, Mass., Irene Dugger, Arlington, Texas, and Geri Bowen, and her husband, Spencer, Guthrie, Okla.; two sisters, Jo Terry, Independence, and Velma Gordon, Centerview, Mo.; a brother, Dale Mason, East Linn, Mo.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. MARCELLA F. SANTELLAN
Marcella F. Santellan, 73, Independence, died Sunday, June 7, 1998.
Mrs. Santellan was born in Chicago, Ill., and had lived in Independence for the past 19 years. She was a member of the Independence Cancer Support Group and St. Mary`s Catholic Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 494 years, Ygnacio Santellan Sr. of the home; two sons, Ygnacio Santellan Jr., Independence, and Candido Santellan, Kansas City; two daughters, Margarita Sullivan, Ottawa, Kan., and Delores Santellan, Independence; two sisters, Mary Perez and Delores Galvan, and a brother, Frank Ortega, all of Independence; a stepbrother, Joe Ojeda, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the Gift of Hope Hospice Fund, 300 N. Osage St., Independence, Mo. 64050.
THELMA J. SNEDDEN
Thelma Jeanne Payton Snedden of Grandview, died Friday, June 5, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mrs. Snedden was born Nov. 10, 1914, near Dearborn, Mo., in Platte County, and had lived in this area most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Snedden in June 1984.
Her survivors include a stepdaughter, Mary Pat Derendinger; grandchildren, Deanna Sasser, Damon Derendinger, Linda Loucks, Al and Richard Snedden and families; a nephews, Jim Payton; and a niece, Cindy Nelson.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carson Funeral Homes.
LUTHER G. TERRILL
Luther Glenn Terrill, 82, Los Angeles, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Terrill was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Dixon, Mo., and had lived in the Kansas City area for 28 years before moving to Los Angeles in 1973. He was employed by Railway Express Agency in Kansas City for 33 years before his retirement. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a sister, Evelyn Wyatt, Independence.
Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Midtown Chapel.
BONNIE L. TURNER
Bonnie L. Turner, 68, Independence, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Turner was born April 10, 1930, in Willow Springs, Mo., and had lived in the Blue Springs/Independence area for the past 41 years. She was a mail order clerk for Montgomery Wards for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Most recently she was a broker for B&L Century 21 Real Estate in Blue Springs. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Holloman in 1997.
Her survivors include her husband of 49 years, Donald Turner of the home; a son, Steven Turner, Independence; two daughters, Stephanie Perryman and Patricia Searcy, both of Independence; a brother, Ernest Lee Stephenson, Jacksonville, Ark.; three sisters, Kay Losh, McKinney, Texas, Connie Hiler and Jerry Johnson, both of Willow Springs; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Hiler Funeral Home, Willow Springs. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Willow Springs. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Friends may also call from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the Hiler Funeral Home.
CHARLES WOODSON
Charles Woodson, 63, Berkeley, Calif., formerly of Kansas City, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, in Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming.
Mr. Woodson had been a professor at Berkeley College for the past 40 years, and was a member of the Flying Club of Berkeley.
His survivors include his wife, Yoko Woodson, and one daughter, Maiko Woodson, both of Berkeley; two brothers, Wilbur Woodson, Independence, and Bill Woodson, Augusta, Kan.; three sisters, Charlene Burge, Dodge City, Kan., Nancy Woodson, San Jose, Calif., and Wilma Woodson, Denver; seven nieces; and three nephews.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Berkeley.
CECIL L. HARMON
Cecil Louise Harmon, 78, Kansas City, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Harmon was born July 9, 1920, in California, Mo. She was a seamstress and had worked for Fashion Flare and Kansas City Boys Wear. Her husband, Nelson W. Harmon, died in 1985.
Her survivors include two sons, Chilton Strode and Norvin C. Ennis, both of Independence; one daughter, Emma F. Moore, Kansas City; three brothers; one sister; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
GLORIA J. DOBSON
Memorial services for Gloria J. Dobson, 69, of Sibley, who died Friday, July 17, 1998, in Central Washington Hospital, Wonatchee, Wash., will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Buckner Town Hall.
A private burial was held July 22 in Sibley. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
JAMES J. "JIM" HALL
James Joseph "Jim" Hall, 52, Lake Tapawingo, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Hall was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Indianapolis, Ind., and lived there until moving to the Kansas City area in 1960. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1964 and attended the Kansas City Police Academy. He served as a Kansas City police officer and retired after 10 years. He then became a business partner operating food and drink establishments, including The Eastsider and Maxine`s in Independence and in Blue Springs. In the world of racing at Riverside Race Track, he was known as #31 "Mad Dog" Hall. He competed in the stock car division and demolition derbys in other various arenas. He was also a local disc jockey, known as "Jimmy J." He was a supporter of the Dream Factory and the Children`s Place. He was also a little league football coach for many years and volunteered to play music for the children of B.W. Shepard State School. He was a member of the American Pool Players Association. He was also a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church of Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Maxine Hall of the home; two sons, Richard Hall, Lee`s Summit, and Michael Hall, Blue Springs; three daughters, Lisa, Texas, Denise, Lee`s Summit, and Jeanette, Kansas City; his parents, Robert and Florence Hall, Kansas City; a brother, Thomas, Houston, Texas; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions for a scholarship given in his name, in care of the Blue Springs Community Foundation, 1100 N.W. Outer Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64015.
JOHN A. BITNOFF
John Alden Bitnoff, 48, Odessa, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Bitnoff was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Sheridan, Calif., and lived in Sheridan, Sacramento and Concord in California, and in Great Bend, Scott City and Bel Pre in Kansas, before moving to Odessa in 1996. He was an interstate truck driver for F-J Boutell Trucking Co. of National City, Calif., and he delivered new trucks across the United States. Previously he had been an independent cattle hauling truck driver in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam, plus one extended tour. He was a member of United Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 542, San Diego, Calif. He was of the Christian faith.
His survivors include three daughters, Bartra Jean Churchill, Great Bend, Kan., Natasha Marie Bitnoff and Sherry Ann Bitnoff, both of Bel Pre; a brother, Michael A. Bitnoff, Odessa; a sister, Irene Ann Bean, Citrus Heights, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Mystacia Churchill.
Cremation with burial in Bel Pre, Kan., area cemetery. Local arrangements under the direction of the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.
ROBERT M. WILLIAMS
Robert M. Williams, 73, Independence, died Monday, May 31, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Williams was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Altoona, Pa. He had a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy, having served in the Navy Seabees during World War II. After retiring from Naval service, he worked for Allis Chalmers until his retirement in 1987.
His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Winifred of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Ann and Robert, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, Michael of the home; six grandchildren, including Robert Duff of the home; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. NewcomerÕs Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
