HEINZ G. WEISBACH
Heinz G. Weisbach, 81, Shawnee, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Mr. Weisbach was born in Holstein, Germany, and had lived in this area most of his life. He came to the United States when he was five years old. He was an electrician for Porter Electric for 25 years, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124 for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorthy Weisbach of the home; three sons, Ronald Heinz Weisbach, Kansas City, Stephen E. Weisbach, North Kansas City, and Richard L. Weisbach, Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Carolyn S. Pope, Blue Springs, and Linda M. Palmer, Shawnee; one brother, Herbert Weisbach, Phoenix City, Ala. two sisters, Gerda Piper and Lottie How, both of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee. Burial will be in Hillsdale cemetery, Hillsdale, Kan. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
HARRIETT E. EARLY
Harriett E. Early, 68, Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999.
Mrs. Early was born March 17, 1930, in Garden City, Mo. She worked for the Gosepl Tract Society for 19 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of United Methodist Women. In 1979, she received the gift of a new life with the donation of a kidney.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Herbert O. and Kristy Early, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda K. and Michael Austin, Richmond, Mo.; a sister, Helen E. Graves, and two brothers, Harry E. Leslie and Herbert E. Leslie, both of Independence; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church, Independence. Burial will be in Garden City cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
DANA J. McBRAYER
Dana J. McBrayer, 20, Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999.
Miss McBrayer was born Sept. 11, 1978, in Kansas City. She was a secretary for Action Contracting in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her father, James Robert Green, and her grandfathers, James McBrayer and Robert Green.
Her survivors include her mother and stepfather, Janice and Bill Ryan, Independence; her grandmothers, Merle McBrayer, Lee's Summit, and Mabel Green, Mayview, Mo.; a brother, David Williams, Kansas City; her boyfriend, Jonathan Hanan, Independence; four
aunts, Jennie Weant, North Kansas City, Joyce Dine, Kansas City, Linda Johnson, Lee's Summit, and Carol Rippey, Kansas City, North; two nephews; a niece; and several cousins.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Charter Funerals, Earp & Sons Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the family, in care of the funeral home.
NEVA L. O'NEIL
Neva L. O'Neil, 75, Ottawa, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa.
Mrs. O'Neil was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Earlton, Kan., and lived in Independence from 1953 to 1980, moving to Tucson, Ariz., for three years. She continued spending 10 to 12 winters in Tucson with summers in Montana. She moved to Ottawa in 1994. She was a homemaker, attended Church of the Brethren, Ottawa, and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Association of Retired Persons, the Camper Ranch Club and the American and Escapees Club. She was a 1941 graduate of Thayer (Kan.) High School. Her son, Donald Dennis McHenry, died in 1949.
Her survivors include her husband, Wayne A. O'Neil, Ottawa; a son, Kenneth W. O'Neil, Osawatomie, Kan.; and a sister, Fern McHenry, Chanute, Kan.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Visitation will be held from 5 tonight until service time Wednesday. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, Kan. 6067.
RILEY R. QUICK
Riley Rogers Quick, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at his son's home in Villa Park, Ill.
Mr. Quick was born in Independence and had lived in the Chicago area for many years. He was a district sales manager for Regent Sports Equipment, and had owned his own business in Chicago for many years. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in World War II in Africa and in the invasion of Italy as a lieutenant in the Amphibious Engineers. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Quick; a daughter, Debra of Claremont, Calif.; one son, Riley Rogers Quick Jr., Villa Park; and one sister, Erma Austin, Mesa, Ariz.
DORA M. SHAY
Dora Mae Shay, 87, Blue Springs, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Blue Springs Care Center.
Mrs. Shay was born April 11, 1911, in Saline County, Mo. She had been a sales clerk for F.W. Woolworth, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Her husband, William S. Shay, died in 1979.
Her survivors include three sons, William Shay, Lee's Summit, Lawrence Ray Shay, Blue Springs, and Michael Shay, Independence; a daughter, Marjorie Shipman, Blue Springs; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
LOIS M. SPENCE
Lois Maurine Spence of Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at the Bethany Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Spence was born April 26, 1907, in Logan, Iowa, and lived in Council Bluffs most of her life. She had lived in the Independence area for approximately 10 years. She was a 1925 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Staints, serving as an organist for many years. She formerly attended the East 39th Street RLDS congregation. Her husband, L. Merl Spence, died in 1989.
Her survivors include a daughter, Lou Ann McCartney, Papillion, Neb.; two sons, Ronald Spence, Council Bluffs, and Loren Spence, Lake Ozark, Mo.; a sister, Doris Weddle, Independence; a brother, Orville Waterman, Persia, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation, with memorial services at a later date. Inurnment will be at Mound Grove cemetery.
MARGARET M. FITCH
Margaret Mary Fitch, 78, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Fitch was born March 14, 1920, in Fulton, Kan. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia, in 1959.
She is survived by her husband, Burton Fitch of the home.
Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Bishop Sullivan Center, Kansas City, or to St. Ann's School.
IRENE T. LACHAPELLE
Irene T. Lachapelle, 86, Parkville, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Lachapelle retired in 1980 from John Chezik Buick.
Her survivors include two daughters, Rose Latham of the home, and JoAnne Honeycutt, Parkville; a brother, William G. Hall, Independence; a sister, Martha Mitchell, Belton, Mo.; two grandchildren, Kevin Montalvo and Paula Kitterman and her husband, Jeff; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Heritage Funeral Home, Parkville.
DOROTHY J. "DOLLY" O'RENICK
Dorothy J. "Dolly" O'Renick, 65, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, in Independence.
She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Sugar Creek. She taught piano, organ and accordion to area students in her studio and many area schools. She also had a studio at Turner Music.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Linda O'Renick of Denver, Colo., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Resurrection will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sheil Colonial Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army, National Kidney Foundation or Nativity Catholic Church.
RALPH L. WINKLER
Ralph L. Winkler, 77, Buckner, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Winkler was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Kansas City, and had lived in Buckner for the past 46 years. He was a steel worker for Union Wire Rope (Armco) Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the AFLCIO Local 2916, VFW 6603 in Blue Springs, and
Masonic Lodge 644 AF&AM. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Evelyn Winkler of the home; two sons, Guy A. Winkler, Lee's Summit, and Clifford L. Winkler, Buckner; a daughter, JoAnn Tackett, Omaha, Neb.; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oakland United Methodist Church, 30701 E. Truman Road, Buckner. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
DEBRA DALE AKEMAN
Debra Dale Akeman, 44, Independence, died Fri. Feb. 19, 1999, at the Truman Medical Center West.
Ms. Akeman was born Dec. 18, 1954, in Independence, where she lived her entire life. She was a telemarketer for AT&T. She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Ladies Auxiliary, Independence Chapter 10 and attended the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. Ms. Akeman was preceeded in death by her mother, Willa Mae Akeman in 1993.
Surviving is a son, Clinton Zachary Zeller, and her father, Dale Akeman, both of the home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services and burial at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Bado cemetery, Cabool, Mo.
CLARA L. TERRY
Clara Louise Terry, 75, Lone Jack, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Terry was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Independence, and was a longtime Jackson County resident. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 29 years, retiring in 1985. She then worked for Wal-Mart in Lee's Summit for seven years. She was preceded in death by two children, Mary Louise Keller and Clifford Albert Terry.
Her survivors include two sons, Charles N. Terry Jr., Edwards, Mo., and Bill Terry, Lone Jack; one daughter, Gloria Walters, Blue Springs; two brothers, Owen Anthony, Independence, and Charles Anthony, Lee's Summit; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Lone Jack cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
DR. ELIZABETH K. "LIZ" or "LIZZIE KATE" BARANOWSKI
Dr. Elizabeth Katherine "Liz" or "Lizzie Kate" Baranowski, Woodland, Calif., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at her home.
Dr. Baranowski was born in Milan, Mo., and had attended the Blue Springs R-IV schools and graduated from Barstow Girls School. She attended Creighton University and the University of Missouri, Kansas City. She had been employed by the lab at the Kansas City Blood Bank; by Dr. Charles Wheeler in his laboratory in Overland Park, Kan., and graduated from the University of Health Sciences, Kansas City. She established her medical practice in Woodland.
She was a member of the George Edward Pickett Chapter 1316, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Kansas City, and was a former member of the Blue Springs Chapter of the DAR. She was an active American Cancer volunteer, not only teaching classes to members of the medical profession, but also as an active volunteer in fund-raising and assisting in programs for the public for the American Cancer Society. She also helped others financially by paying the college expenses of two students including medical school for one and others were helped as needed.
Her survivors include her mother, Francis Eloise Vaughn, Lake Tapawingo; two sisters, Margaret Francis Pointelin, St. Joseph, Mo., and Candy Connealy, Leawood, Kan.; two brothers, Dr. Joe B. Vaughn, Warrensburg, Mo., and James P.R. Baranowski, Kansas City; her grandfather, B. Hudgins, Stuart, Fla.; and five nieces and nephews.
She requested that her body be cremated and that the organization of Neptune scatter her ashes in the Pacific Ocean. Memorial services were Tuesday in Woodland. At a later date, a memorial service will be in Kansas City.
