BILLY R. FARMER
Billy Richard Farmer, 57, Blue Springs, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Farmer was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Bolivar, Mo. He worked for K.W. Dart for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Promise Keepers.
His survivors include his wife, Linda Farmer of Blue Springs; four sons, Billy Richard Farmer Jr., Grain Valley, David Earl Farmer, Independence, Bryan Leighow, Kansas City, and Carey Lynn Leighow, Dallas; one duaghter, Theresa Louise Johnson, Arizona; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the church.
JOHN KISH SR.
John Kish Sr., 85, Independence, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Kish was born Aug. 22, 1912, in Kansas City, Kan. He was a supervisor for the Sears & Roebuck Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1967, and was a member of the Sears Retiree`s Association. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Estella Catherine Kish of the home; a son, John Kish Jr., Federal Way, Wash.; two nephews, Joseph J. Cygan Jr., Blue Springs, and Gerald L. Cygan, Lee`s Summit; two grand-nephews, Chris M. Cygan, Grain Valley, and Joseph J. Cygan III, Blue Springs; and three grand-nieces, Pamela Sternberg, Lisa Gillen, Deborah Marie Cygan, all of Blue Springs.
Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
JEWEL J. LOWDERMAN
Jewel June Lowderman, 79, Independence, formerly of Grain Valley, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Lowderman was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Grain Valley and was a lifelong area resident. She was one of the founders of Happy Hut Teen Town, providing a place of social involvement for her son and other people with special needs. Her husband, Lawrence Lowderman, died Dec. 28, 1981.
Her survivors include two sons, Ernest Lowderman and Philip Lowderman, both of Independence; a daughter, Elaine "Judy" Benson, Dallas; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
WILLIAM S. STARKE III
William S. Starke III, 53, Hinesville, Ga., died Friday, April 25, 1998, at Liberty Regional Medical Center, Hinesville.
Mr. Starke was a native of St. Louis and had lived several years in Hinesville. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Army and retired as a major. He was a real estate appraiser in Liberty County.
His survivors include his wife, Judy B. Starke of the home; a son, Kenneth Shawn Starke, Lexington, Mo.; a daughter, Lisa Rodman, Prince George, Va.; his parents, Bill and Heidi Starke, Lexington; two brothers, Thomas Starke, Santa Fe, N.M., and Patrick Starke, Blue Springs; two sisters, Linda Occhipinti, Raleigh, N.C., and Lia Ream, Langhorne, Pa.; five grandchildren, Bethany, Erika and Hannah Starke and Courtney and Emily Rodman.
Services were Monday at Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Hinesville. Burial was in Oglethorpe Memorial Park with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
DIANA M. VERTAKO
Diana M. Vertako, 45, Blue Springs, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Vertako was born in Battle Creek, Mich., and lived in Troy, Mich., before moving to this area 18 years ago. She was a volunteer at John Nowlin Elementary School in Blue Springs, and for many years was an active member of the PTA. She was a member of the Woods Chapel RLDS congregation.
Her survivors include her husband, John J. Vertako, a son, Michael Vertako, and a daughter, Heather Marie Vertako, all of the home; and a brother, Daniel J. Clark, Homestead, Fla.

VENUS ALDERTON
Venus Alderton, 88, Raytown, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at the Cedar Valley Nursing Home.
Mrs. Alderton was born Aug. 6, 1909, in Bucklin, Kan. She had worked in food service at the Independence Regional Health Center, and was a member of Maywood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Craigg in 1958, her second husband, Harvey Alderton in 1997, and a son, Alvin Craigg in 1981.
Her survivors include one son, Orville Craigg, Rockford, Ill.; two daughters, Arline Brown and Wanda Struchtemeyer, both of Independence; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
DELLA M. BLASCO
Della May Drake Blasco, 71, Independence, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Blasco was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 846 Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary 0370, both in Overland Park, Kan., and Fraternal Order of Eagles 3717 Auxiliary in Sugar Creek.
Her survivors include a daughter, Carole Blasco, Newborn, Ga.; a sister, Catherine McPherson, Cottage Grove, Mo.; a half brother, James George; two grandchildren, Brian Patrick Cooper and James Franklin Cooper, both of Newborn; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kansas City Funeral Directors, Kansas City, Kan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
WILLARD M. COVEY
Willard Murriel Covey, 83, Independence, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, Texas.
Mr. Covey was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Bates County, Mo. He retired as owner/operator of Brown-Covey Precision Grinding and Machine Works. He was a 51 year member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge 630, where he was a master mason, and was also a member of the
Eastgate York Rite Bodies. He was past advisor for the True Kindred, was a chanter for the Ararat Shrine Temple, and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Ruth Covey of the home; four daughters, Patricia Cannafax, Kansas City, Jean Hughes, Lee`s Summit, Nedra Gargus, Tunas, Mo., and Diana Ackley, Independence; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Masonic services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City, followed by a funeral service. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. VERNIA O. DODGE
Vernia Orrin Dodge, 91, Raytown, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at the Cedar Valley Care Center.
Mr. Dodge was born Dec. 29, 1906, in Kansas City, and had lived in Raytown most of his life. He had worked for several lumber yards, was a member of the Raytown Christian Church, and was past president of the Missouri Bee Keepers Association.
His survivors include his wife of 69 years, Anna L. Dodge of the home; two daughters, Anna L. Combs, Independence, and Dorothy R. Balsley, Raytown; two half brothers, Ben Herr, Kansas City, and Frank Herr, Colorado; two half sisters, Virginia Needham, Raytown, and Helena, Arizona; and a granddaughter, Polly Ann Balsley, Lee`s Summit.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

Cleo L. Shaw, 93, Warrensburg, Mo., died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg.
Mr. Shaw was born Nov. 22, 1904, in El Dorado Springs, Mo. He was a concrete finisher for Tobin Construction Co. in Kansas City for several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Warrensburg.
His survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Melva and Calvin Wright, Independence, and Cleora and Earl Dean Fox, Holden, Mo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jo Shaw, Lee`s Summit, and Herbert and Shirley Shaw, and Ron and Wilma Shaw, all of Centerview, Mo.; a sister, Gladys Rogers, Independence; a nephew, Darrell Rogers; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

MYRTLE L. BROCK
Myrtle L. Brock, 70, Kansas City, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Park Lane Hospital.
Mrs. Brock was born Nov. 2, 1927, in Pikeville, Tenn., and lived in Georgia before moving to this area in 1951. She worked in the maintenance department of Metcalf South Shopping Center.
Her survivors include her husband, James E. Brock of the home; a son, LeRoy Brock, Kansas City; four daughters, Patricia Farmer, Brenda Russell and Betty Brock all of Kansas City, and Kathy Wiggins, Blue Springs; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
RICHARD "R.J." RICE
Richard "R.J." Rice, 69, Blue Springs, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Rice was born May 10, 1929, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He owned and operated his own housing construction company in this area. He was in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
His survivors include a son, Randall R. Rice, Blue Springs; four daughters, Rhonda A. Sloan, Rachelle R. Bartlett and Renee S. Schroeder, all of Blue Springs, and Rebecca S. Kaczynski, Austin, Texas; and the children`s mother, Anne; 13 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
