Albert LeRoy Bates, age 74, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Shirkey Leisure Acres in Richmond, Missouri.
LeRoy was born June 11, 1937 in Carrollton, Missouri, the son of Albert Lee and Flossie (Jones) Bates. He attended Carrollton schools.
LeRoy was married
to Patty Stark. He worked in maintenance for Con Agra and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norborne.
LeRoy is survived by four children, Doug Bates and wife, Debbie, Norborne, Missouri; Ricky Lee Bates, Norborne, Missouri; Lisa Rainey and husband, Allen, Norborne, Missouri; Robert Bates, Richmond, Missouri; two sisters, Betty Berning and husband, Jim, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Shirley Kelly and husband, John, Pensacola, Florida; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
His parents, one brother, Larry Bates, and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with memorial services following at the funeral home with Martin Brooke officiating. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill cemetery.

Carole S. Lehan
Carole S. Lehan, age 69, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Boulder Community Hospital in Colorado.
Carole was born June 18, 1942 in Henrietta, Missouri, the daughter of Marion and Martha (Schindhelm) Stigall. She graduated from Bosworth High School.
In May 1994, Carole married
Patrick Michael Lehan. He survives of the home.
Carole had worked in real estate management in California and Colorado. She was a member of the St. Hilary Episcopal Church and the Gateway Country Club in Fort Myers.
Carole is also survived by one son, Chris Shaddy, Prairie Grove, Arkansas; two step-sons, Mark Lehan, Berthoud, Colorado; Steve Lehan, Niwot, Colorado; one step-daughter, Lauri Lehan, Denver, Colorado; one brother, David Stigall, Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, Linda McCormick, Cherokee Village, Arkansas; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Her parents and one sister, Mary Ann Wright, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with graveside services following at Evergreen cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri. The Reverend Denise Vaughn will officiate.

Betty Long
Betty Long, 80, Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away October 6, 2011 at St. Luke’s East. Betty was born June 17, 1931 in Grandview, MO to Samuel and Sylvia Pearl Easton, Betty was their only child. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Kathy Schieszer. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years Homer Long, son and daughter-in-law Samuel and Gwendolyn Long, son-in-law Fred Schieszer, grandchildren; Angela Childress, and Doug, Chris, and Jill Schieszer, and 5 great-grandchildren; Avery, Sophia, Adam, Arthur, and Margaret. A visitation will be held 10 AM, Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at First Baptist of Lee’s Summit, 2 NE Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 AM. Johnny Eldon Stark
Johnny Eldon Stark, age 68, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at his home.
Johnny was born October 31, 1942 in Montrose, Colorado, the son of William and Laura (Thoeni) Stark. He graduated from Carrollton High School.
Johnny was married
to Patty (Stroud) Bates on June 3, 2006 at the Baptist Church in Norborne, Missouri. She survives of the home. He had worked in maintenance for Con Agra and was a member of the Norborne First Baptist Church.
Johnny is survived by two children, Teresa Lightfoot, Carrollton, Missouri; Jeff Stark, Norborne, Missouri; four step-children, Doug Bates, Rick Bates and Lisa Rainey, all of Norborne, and Robert Bates, Richmond, Missouri; brothers and sisters, Willetta Williams, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Wyman Stark, State of California; Clarence Stark, Carrollton, Missouri; Gary Stark, Carrollton, Missouri; Lloyd Stark, State of Kansas; Roger Stark, Carrollton, Missouri; Shirley Wheeler, Carrollton, Missouri; Sharon Eden, State of Iowa, and six grandchildren.
His parents and three brothers, Bill, Tim, and Harold, preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be held 10:30, Friday, October 14, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Homes, 201 South Main, Carrollton, MO.

Dorothy Irene McNiece
Dorothy Irene McNiece, age 90, a former Carrollton, Missouri resident, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at The Living Center, Marshall, Missouri.
Dorothy was born February 4, 1921 in Zion, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur H. and Ida (Harris) Borden. She graduated from high school in Illinois.
On April 12, 1941 she married
Paul McNiece in Maquoketa, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2006. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had worked at Taylor Shoe Store, Barry Electric and for Dr. F. M. Smith. She was a member of the Carrollton First Christian Church.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Marla Dillon, Marshall, Missouri; one granddaughter, Diane Gluck, and several great grandchildren.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with graveside services following at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Hill cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.

Michael George Schubert
Michael George Schubert, age 71, of Des Moines, Iowa, and formerly of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011.
He was born February 22, 1940 in Kingsville, Texas, the son of Alvin and Rose (Gaines) Schubert. He graduated from Carrollton High School.
Michael was in the United States Air Force where he worked in Electronics. He was a Lutheran.
Michael is survived by one brother, Pat Schubert, Carrollton, Missouri; two sisters, Emilie Wendell, Jackson, Missouri; Mollie Strickland, Jackson, Missouri; two nephews, Ryan Strickland, Hartford, Connecticut; Kyle Strickland, Cape Girardeau, Missouri; great-nephew, Robin Strickland, Hartford, Connecticut; Aunt Elva Schubert, St. Louis, Missouri; and his VA family at Knoxville and Des Moines Veterans facilities where he had lived for twenty-five years.
He was preceded in death by two nephews, John Strickland and Brandon Wendell.
Funeral services are tentatively set for Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Higginsville Veteran's cemetery. Arrangements by Gibson Funeral Homes, Inc. Carrollton, Missouri.
Catherine Zarker
Catherine Jean Zarker, 86, Raytown, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Zarker, in 1994, She was also preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret (Hughes) Neff, a brother John Neff, and a sister Margaret Schneikart. Catherine leaves behind her 2 children; Robert Zarker Jr., and his wife Diane of Peculiar, Missouri, and Jacqueline Ring and her husband Tim of Raytown, Missouri, a sister, Betty Nolte, grandchildren Jason, Beau, Merriel, and a step-grandson Kristian, and 3 great-grandchildren Coral, Bryan and Sara. Catherine was a resident of the metro area for her entire life. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from East High School. She worked as a claims adjuster for Allstate Insurance for more than 30 years before her retirement. After retiring she worked as an usher for Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. She was a founding member and past secretary of the KC Turner Society, and acted as Vice-president of the Women's Greater Kansas City Public Links Association. She enjoyed golf, a lifetime of bowling, she enjoyed being independent and traveling. Just last month driving herself to San Francisco for a getaway. A visitation will be held Monday, October 17, 2011 at 11 AM, followed by a funeral service at noon, and burial at Mt. Washington cemetery in Independence, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Shriner's Children Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Beverly C. Atherton Snyder
Beverly C. (Wolf) Atherton, age 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, at North Kansas City Hospital. She was a dedicated mother and grandmother.
Beverly was born April 28, 1926 in Norborne, Missouri, the daughter of William H. F. and Mary A. (Bucklinger) Wolf. She attended Norborne schools.
In 1952 Beverly married
Gerald E. “Poodle” Atherton. He preceded her in death in March of 1973. Besides Poodle, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Janet Rebecca, one brother, William H. Wolf, Jr., two sisters, Zelma Corbin and Ola Umberger, and one grandson, Cody, D. Whitmer.
Survivors include sons, Joe (Sharron) Stokes, Chuck (Janet) Atherton, both of Carrollton, Missouri; daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Hughes, Sherry (Alex) Wingate, both of Carrollton, Missouri; and son, Fred Stokes, Bogard, Missouri.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Billy Stokes, Patrick Stokes, Kayla Atherton, Tara Baker, Paul Stokes, Kelsey Atherton, Greta Stokes, Keshia Bruce, Kathy Martenson, and Kristie Richards. Beverly also has twenty-two great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Beverly was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton where she had enjoyed being the leader of the children’s choir for five years. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and the IOOF in Carrollton. Always conscious of her civic duty, she served the town of Carrollton for many years as councilman-at-large, as councilman for Ward 2, and as city clerk.
Visitation will be from 7-9:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Jeremy Payne officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.

Maurine May Newham
Maurine May (Myers) Newham, 84, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 quietly in her room at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab Center.
Maurine was born June 6, 1927 in Carroll County, Missouri. Her parents, William Saylor and Mary Ida (Bryan) Myers raised her in the areas of Lakeview, Nimrod, and Rockingham, graduating from Central High School in 1945. She married
her high school sweetheart, David William Newham, on November 25, 1945, in Leavenworth, Kansas. They worked together on the family farm for 54 years. She was a devoted mother and housewife, loved the outdoors, whether it was watching a sunrise or sunset, gardening, taking walks, or being with her family.
Maurine was active in her community being a past president of PTA, charter member of the Rolling Green Garden Club, various committees at the United Methodist Church and WMV.
Maurine lived a long and fruitful life centered on her love of farm life, giving others her garden treasures, her family, her community and her God.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, David and Jacob “Jake” Myers, and her sisters, Francis Fitzwater and twin, Corine Whittaker, and infant siblings, John and Viola Marie Myers, a daughter-in-law, Susan Kay (Edmonds) Newham, and a grandson, Denison James Newham.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis David and Jackie Newham, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jerry Douglas and Cheryl Newham, Richmond, Missouri, and Dudley Bryan and Rachelle Newham, Norborne, Missouri. Other survivors include grandchildren: Denton Myles Newham, Dallas, Texas, Kelly Lynne Hammons, Kansas City, Missouri, Kyle David Newham, New Franklin, Missouri, Amanda May French, Richmond, Missouri, and Stephanie Marie Newham, Norborne, Missouri, step grandchildren include Greg Armstrong, Richmond, Missouri, Jodie Bowman, Richmond, Missouri, Brian Blackmore, Neodesha, Kansas, and Greg Blackmore, St. Paul, Kansas, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Visitation was held from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Gibson Funeral Home, Norborne, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Norborne.

Dana Worthington
After battling cancer for 12 years, Dana LeaAnn Worthington passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011, at the age of 48.
She is survived by her husband, Donald; her sister, Laura; her brother-in-law, Danny; her daughter, Amanda; her son, Brad; her daughter-in-law, Tiffany; her father, David and her stepmother, Carolyn. She also leaves behind two nieces, Darla and Grace; two nephews, Christopher and James; and two grandsons, Alex and Zachary.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Carol and Dean Jones.
Dana was born on January 24, 1963, and was adopted by David Gordon and Carol Gordon, nee Elkins in March of the same year. Dana married
Donald Worthington on February 23, 1983, in Miami, Oklahoma. She gave birth to her daughter Amanda on June 4, 1984, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her son Brad was born on October 2, 1985. Dana dedicated her life to helping others and once confessed that she felt that working for the Department of Mental Health for the State of Missouri, where she served faithfully as a psychiatric technician for 20 years, was her way of doing God’s work. She was patient, compassionate, and full of hope. She redefined the term empathy and supported the dreams and ambitions of the people whose lives she touched. She saw the best in everyone and believed strongly in meeting people where they were in life. From her earliest days, Dana loved to read. Some of her favorite authors were Dean Koontz, Janet Evanovich, Mark Twain, and Kurt Vonnegut. She also enjoyed watching Jeopardy, taking trips to the zoo, exploring museums, and spending time with the people she loved. She will be sorely missed.
Her service will be held at Missouri Funeral Care at 6113 Blue Ridge Boulevard in Raytown, MO.
While the family welcomes donations of flowers, contributions to cancer research foundations are also encouraged.
The service will be followed by interment at Brooking cemetery at 53rd Street and Pittman Road.
