Robert A. Clark

HANNIBAL - Robert Angus Clark, 86, of Hannibal, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Beth-Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Memorial services will be planned for a later date. His cremains will be scattered at sea, off the coast of Maine. Smith Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no visitation.
Mr. Clark was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada to the Rev. Percy C. and Katherine Belle Ferguson Clark.
He was previously married to Jean Walden Birch in 1939. She preceded him in death. He was married to Erna Dean (Jackie) Sampson on Jan. 20, 1968, in Grandview. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Dr. Robin Clark Kennedy of Columbia and Heather Belle Johnson of East Dubuque, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as survivors, 27 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Angus, Douglas, John, Leonard and Charles Clark; and four sisters, Annabelle, Evelyn, Dora and Ruth.
Mr. Clark was variously employed as a teacher, chef, restaurateur, businessman, sales manager and entrepreneur. He worked for more than 30 years in the beverage sales business, retiring in 1977. He spent his childhood in Nova Scotia and the state of Maine, graduating in 1934 from Madison High School in Maine. He attended the University of Maine in Orono.

Anna R. Phillips
Feb. 2, 1923 - Jan. 15, 2002
HANNIBAL - Anna R. Phillips, 78, of New London, died at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Smith Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Gerald Begley will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Phillips was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Marceline to Joseph and Sally Faudree Dorrell.
She was first married to Kenneth Wright in 1942. She later married H.L. Phillips on July 4, 1958, near Marceline. He survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Jo Anna Stepniak of Jacksonville, Ill.; one grandson, Larry Stepniak; and one sister, Maxine Stallman of Marceline.
The family wishes to name and give the ages of three surviving great-grandchildren, Ariel Stepniak, 8, Anton Stepniak, 7, and Christian Stepniak, 2, all of Jacksonville, Ill.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; and her first husband.
Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of Marceline High School. She was a banquet waitress at the Hannibal Inn, formerly the Holiday Inn, where she had worked the past 32 years. She attended the Assembly of God Church in Hannibal.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Pallbearers will be Danny Hall, Shawn Janes, Dwayne Jones, John Pierceall, Eddie Willett and Bob Willett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Drazba, Charlie Janes, Gerald Janes Jr., Robert Janes and Jim Pierceall.
John C. Starr
July 31, 1926 - Jan. 16, 2002
PEORIA, Ill. - John Carson Starr, 75, of Peoria, Ill., died at 2:51 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. The Rev. Robert Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Starr was born July 31, 1926, in Hannibal to William Carson Starr and Gertrude Nellie Willage.
He was married to Mary L. Haynes on Dec. 21, 1947. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, William Ray Starr of East Peoria; and one grandson, Nathan Starr of East Peoria.
He was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister.
Mr. Starr had worked as a manufacturing planner for Caterpillar Tractor Co., retiring Sept. 1, 1982. He was formerly a glove maker for Boss Glove Factory in Peoria. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Peoria Dartball League, various bowling teams and Caterpillar Retirees Club.

Carl A. Tallman
QUINCY, Ill. - Carl A. Tallman, 66, of Emerson, died at 3:47 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.
John Henry Muehlebach II
July 5, 1932 - Jan. 9, 2002
INDIAN CREEK - John (Jack) Henry Muehlebach II, 69, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Hannibal, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in West Palm Beach.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Stevens Cemetery in Indian Creek.
Mr. Muehlebach was born July 5, 1932, to John Henry I and Genevra Accola Muehlebach.
He was married to Geraldine Daino in West Palm Beach. She survives.
Other survivors include one sister, June Wells of Linn; three daughters, Sonya Siler of Greeneville, Tenn., and Tina Williams and Michelle Stolte, both of Hannibal; three stepdaughters, Tracy Ham of Hannibal, Kelly Nichols of Columbia and Lori Pflum of St. Charles; two sons, Charles Muehlebach of Panama City and John Muehlebach of Palm Springs, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The family wishes to include as survivors, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gene and Kevin Muehlebach; and one daughter, Carmen Sue Muehlebach.
Mr. Muehlebach was an independent distributor for Mark Twain Dairy in Hannibal and after moving to West Palm Beach, he retired as an independent distributor for McArthur Dairy.
John J. Gilbert

HANNIBAL - John J. Gilbert, 69, of Hannibal, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gilbert was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Hannibal to James H. and Dora A. Billings Gilbert.
He was married to Mary Carolyn Elliott on Sept. 1, 1951, in Hannibal. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Kathy Rzysko of Twyford, England, Karla Allen of New London, and Nita Beilsmith and Sheri Ranabargar, both of Hannibal; four sons, John M. (Mike) Gilbert, Tim Gilbert and Joe Gilbert, all of Hannibal, and Jim Gilbert of New London; two sisters, Viola Epley and Doris Sebers, both of Hannibal; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to include the names of his grandchildren, Nikki Douglas, Darin Douglas, Aleca Rzysko, Duncan Budd, Stefan Rzysko, Hannah Rzysko, Chris Wilson, Sara Buckwalter Page, Eddie Wilson, Ashley Monroe, Robie Wilson, Noah Tolbert, Megan Beilsmith, Katlyn Beilsmith, Corey Ranabargar, Carrie Ranabargar, Rachael Ranabargar, Michael Gilbert, Kayla Gilbert, Amber Nelson, Justin Gilbert, Elizabeth Gilbert, Jaymee Gilbert, Daniel Gilbert, Josh Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Nicholas Gilbert and Sadie Irwin; and his great-grandchildren, Briar Douglas, Tia Rzysko, Austin Page, Lydia Page and Coady Gilbert.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon B. Gilbert; and two infant daughters, Jenny-Rae Gilbert and Lori Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was a retired pipefitter and was a member of St. Louis Local No. 562 for 40 years. He was a member of the Sons of the Legion, Goodfellows, ABC Local Bowling League and Hannibal Bowling Hall of Fame. He shot a 300 game at age 65. He also made the first "hole in one" at Rolling Dale Golf Course. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Lowe, Pat Morgan, Glen (Put) Garrett, Brad Tutor, Don Webster, Don Dooley, Gary Ranabargar and Russ DeLaPorte.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Beilsmith, Randy Ranabargar, Bob Allen, Andy Rzysko, Donna Gilbert, Crystal Gilbert, Tonya Gilbert and Chris Wilson.
Thomas Callis
July 18, 1909 - Jan. 19, 2002
PARIS - Thomas Fletcher Callis, 92, of Paris, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Boone County Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Agnew Funeral Home in Paris.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Callis was born north of Paris on July 18, 1909, to Chester A. and Patsy W. Hanger Callis.
He was married Lou Bridgford on May 25, 1935, in Fulton. She survives.
Survivors include one son, Charles E. Callis of Paris; three grandchildren, Chad A. Callis of St. Louis, Colleen Huffman of Corinth, Texas, and Bridget Weimer of Macon; three stepgrandchildren, Mellissa, Amy and Sarah Huffman; and one sister, Mary Virginia Johnson of Paris.
The family wishes to include as survivors one daughter-in-law, Jane Callis of Paris; and three grandchildren-in-law, Shannon Callis of St. Louis, Rick Huffman of Corinth, Texas, and Bruce Weimer of Macon.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles P. Callis.
Mr. Callis was a retired farmer and a member of the Paris United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge and Paris Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Scottish Rite Order and the Shriners. He served 16 years on the board of Consolidated Electric Cooperative in Mexico, two terms as a Monroe County Commissioner and on the Paris R-II Board of Education.
Roanne A. Juliano
Dec. 27, 1979 - Jan. 18, 2002
HANNIBAL - Roanne Avila Juliano, 22, of Hannibal, died at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in Palmyra.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Holy Family Church in Hannibal. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Miss Juliano was born Dec. 27, 1979, in Manila, Philippines, to Roly and Freida Avila Juliano.
Survivors include her parents of Hannibal; her grandparents, Bonifacio and Marcelina Juliano of Nueva Ecija, Philippines; one brother, Ryan Juliano of the home; and one sister, Rhea Juliano of Des Moines, Iowa.
Miss Juliano was a Bright Flight Scholar and Truman State Scholar at Truman State University in Kirksville.
She was a member of Holy Family Church.
She was employed by Hannibal Regional Hospital in the emergency department.

Gerald Atteln

CLARKSVILLE - Gerald (Gerry) Atteln, 50, of Clarksville, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at his home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church in Sunset Hills. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Affton.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Collier Funeral Home in Clarksville. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kutis Funeral Home in St. Louis.
Mr. Atteln was born May 22, 1951, in St. Louis to Clemens and Anna Wackenheim Atteln.
Survivors include his mother of St. Louis; and three sisters, Marianne Finch, Barbara Atteln and Anita Selley.
The family wishes to include as survivors one nephew, Jeffrey Angus; and one niece, Christine Angus.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Jessie Brammer Sr.
Oct. 3, 1932 - Jan. 18, 2002
KAHOKA - Jessie L. (Bud) Brammer Sr., 69, of Paris and formerly of Davenport, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka. The Rev. Dan Deatrick will officiate. Burial with a military service will be at Combs Cemetery in Luray.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services today at the funeral home.
Mr. Brammer was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa, to Robert and Erma Deane Young Brammer.
He was married to Evelyn L. Young on May 16, 1953, in Davenport. She preceded him in death Aug. 18, 2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Ronda Flores of Davenport; three sons, Larry Brammer and Jessie Junior (Roy) Brammer, both of Davenport, and James Brammer of Moberly; three grandchildren, Nichole Brammer, William Brammer and Amanda Dreifurst; and two sisters, Joy Johnson and Joanne Neece, both of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Vi Rench; and one brother, Robert Brammer.
Mr. Brammer was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Davenport. He was a supervisor for Ralston Purina Co. in Davenport for more than 35 years before his 1993 retirement.
Mr. Brammer was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean war, serving from 1952 to 1956.
