April 22, 1911 - Jan. 16, 2001

HANNIBAL ­ Elaine M. Hayes, 89, of Hannibal, died at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Blessed Sacrament Chapel in Hannibal. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Mrs. Hayes was born April 22, 1911, in Perry to Callahan S. and Marie Ellen Bloomfield O'Donnell.

She was married to Edwin Joseph Hayes on June 29, 1937. He preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1961.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mary O'Donnell and Hazel O'Donnell, both of Hannibal.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Clark and Ellen Lewis; and two brothers, George W. O'Donnell and Frank G. O'Donnell.

Mrs. Hayes was the owner and operator of Broadway Realty and Hayes Tax Service and also worked for many years for the Beneficial Finance Co. of Hannibal. She was a member of Holy Family Church and was a graduate of Chillicothe Business College.

Pallbearers will be Charles Hayes, Tom Hayes, Joseph Hayes, Larry Hayes, Gary Hayes and Tom Hayes Jr.

Willard J. Stevenson
Oct. 15, 1908 - Jan. 17, 2001

SHELBYVILLE ­ Willard J. Stevenson, 92, of Emden, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Prairie View Baptist Church north of Hunnewell. The Rev. David Rice will officiate. Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

Mr. Stevenson was born Oct. 15, 1908, on Prairie View Farm in Emden to Joseph Yancey and Annie Margaret See Stevenson.

He was married to Mary Elizabeth Easdale on Feb. 1, 1936, in Shelbyville. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Joe Stevenson of Alhambra, Ill.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Weldon Stevenson of Shelbyville.

Mr. Stevenson was a member of Prairie View Baptist Church between Hunnewell and Emden where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also served on the Prairie View School Board and was a crop and livestock farmer. He attended Prairie View Elementary School and two years at Emden before transferring to Hunnewell High School for the final two years where he graduated.

Hiram H. Lucas

HANNIBAL ­ Hiram H. Lucas, 89, of Emden, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Monroe City Manor in Monroe City.

Funeral services are pending at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Ruby Alice Tisue
May 1, 1919 - Jan. 14, 2001

CLARENCE ­ Ruby Alice Tisue, 81, of Duncan's Bridge, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Loma Linda Nursing Home in Moberly.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church in Duncan's Bridge. Donna Barton will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Paris.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence, and from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Tisue was born May 1, 1919, near Irondale to William Luther and Mintie Luvina Province Williams.

She was married to J.C. Tisue on April 21, 1946. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1971.

Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Van Houten of Moberly; three grandchildren, Laura Ann Van Houten Heimann, Donald Christopher Van Houten and Sarah Elizabeth Van Houten, all of Moberly; and two great-grandsons.

Mrs. Tisue was a member of Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church in Duncan's Bridge for more than 50 years. She was a graduate of Irondale High School.

Memorials may be made to the Monroe Chapel United Methodist Church.

Charles R. (Bob) Smoot
Aug. 11, 1927 - Jan. 14, 2001

PALMYRA ­ Charles R. (Bob) Smoot, 73, of Palmyra, died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Beth-Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Father Michael Quinn will officiate. Cremation rites were observed and inurnment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra. Military rites will be conducted by the Boots Dickson Post No. 174 of the American Legion.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Smoot was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Maywood to Charles and Bessie Washburn Smoot.

He was married to Kathleen Louise Logan on Aug. 22, 1948, in Lewistown. She preceded him in death Aug. 12, 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Claudia Buckman of Hannibal and Duanita McLemore of Lake Forest, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Smoot of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jim Smoot of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Jacquelyn Andregg of Gloucester, Va., and Jo Ann Darr of Russellville; and four grandchildren, Brandon Buckman of Overland Park, Kan., Leigh Ann Buckman of Hannibal and Nicholas McLemore and Lindsay McLemore, both of Lake Forest.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Georgina Brown; and one grandson, Scott Buckman.

Mr. Smoot was a telephone manager for Central Telephone Co. in Palmyra, where he retired in 1977 after 29 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Boots Dickson Post No. 174 of the American Legion and a protestant by faith.

Memorials may be made to Kathleen Smoot Memorial Scholarship at Marion County R II School in Philadelphia.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shelby Pugh, David Ely, J. B. Kroeger, Claude Maddox, Wayne Snodgrass, Charles Luke Smoot and Henry Dooley.

Velma Margaret Marks
Nov. 8, 1905 ­ Jan. 30, 2001

CANTON ­ Velma Margaret Marks, 95, of Hannibal and formerly of Canton, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Fountain Court Care Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. Larry Daugherty will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services at Davis Funeral Home in Canton.

Mrs. Marks was born Nov. 8, 1905, near Canton, to Charles F. and Lizzie Ellen Alderton Speer.

She was married to Lloyd James Marks on Sept. 5, 1933, in Quincy, Ill. He preceded her in death Jan. 14, 1968.

Survivors include two sisters, Marjorie Ellen Scott and Edna Mildred Finson, both of Hannibal.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Audrie Pearl Speer, James Willard Speer and Alva Speer, who died in infancy; and one sister, Mable Frances Price.

Mrs. Marks was a nurse, who had worked at Canton Hospital and for Dr. Wagner and Dr. Pudliner. She also had worked as a private duty nurse.

Mrs. Marks was a member of Wyaconda Baptist Church near Canton.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.

Mildred Howard
Oct. 8, 1916 - Jan. 30, 2001

HANNIBAL ­ Mildred Howard, 84, of Hannibal, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Hannibal.

Funeral services are pending at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Amanda Joanne Megehe
May 3, 1985 - Dec. 30, 2001

HANNIBAL - Amanda Joanne Megehe, 16, of Hannibal, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, in Ralls County.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. John Hayes will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the funeral home.

Miss Megehe was born May 3, 1985, in Quincy, Ill., to Tyler J. and Deanna L. Oenning Megehe.

Survivors include her father and stepmother, Tyler and Deborah Megehe of Warminster, Pa.; her mother and stepfather, Shawn and Deanna Lee of Hannibal; her grandparents, Donald and Joanne Jennings of Ewing, James and Edith Megehe of New Canton, Ill., James and Delores Lee of Hannibal; her great-grandmother, Josephine Lee of Hannibal; two sisters, Yvonne Megehe of Hannibal and Anastacia Harnen of Warminster; and one brother, James Megehe of Warminster.

The family wishes to include as survivors 20 aunts and uncles: Darrell and Bobbie Oenning of Fayetteville, N.C., Stan Jansen and Donna Cogdal, both of Payson, Ill., Ronnie and Dianna Perrine of Hull, Ill., Chad Jennings and Bryan Jennings, both of Ewing, Mark and Cindy Jennings of LaGrange, Robert and Susie Wood of Canton, Judy and Gerald Miller of Ursa, Ill., Karla and Larry Long of New Berlin, Wis., Karen and James Bernard of New Canton, Ill., and Kelly and Steve LaForce of Hannibal; and 26 cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Larry Oenning.

Miss Megehe was a student of the Hannibal High School junior class, where she lettered in soccer and was a member of the Future Teachers of America. She was a member of the Saverton-Ilasco United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Saverton-Ilasco United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Oenning, Stan Jansen, Chad Jennings, Bryan Jennings, Christopher Cogdal, Wesley Cogdal, Justin Bernard and Mark Jennings.

Earl McMillen Sr.
March 4, 1940 - Dec. 30, 2001

HANNIBAL - Earl McMillen Sr., 61, of New London, died at 4:04 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

There will be no funeral services. The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McMillen was born March 4, 1940, to Shelton and Leona Smallwood McMillen.

He was married to Linda Marburger on Oct. 3, 1959, in Maquoketa, Iowa. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Earl McMillen Jr. of Hannibal, Steven McMillen of Jefferson City, and Ben McMillen and Brian McMillen, both of the home; one daughter, Brittney McMillen of the home; three sisters, Martha Hayden of Frankford, Linda Snell of New London and Mary Barr of Bowling Green; and several grandchildren.

The family wishes to include as survivors, several friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Albert McMillen; and two sisters, Velma Swan and Dorothy Sims.

Mr. McMillen was an iron worker and member of Local 577 Iron Workers. He was a member of the Skyview Saddle Club and the Hannibal Moose Lodge.

Rita L. Rucker
May 8, 1958 - Dec. 31, 2001

HANNIBAL - Rita L. Rucker, 43, of Center, died unexpectedly at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Grand View Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. The Revs. Richard Epperson and Russel Walton will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rucker was born May 8, 1958, in Mexico to Lee Roy and Barbara Jennings McCurdy.

She was married to Dale Rucker on March 7, 1975, in Center. He survives.

Also surviving are her father, Lee Roy McCurdy of Vandalia; her mother, Barbara Neville of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one son, Jeffery Rucker of Center; one daughter, Julie Mudd of Hannibal; two brothers, Joshua McCurdy and Johnathan McCurdy, both of Vandalia; four sisters, Anita Akua of Emma, Diana Walker and Carla Kilppel, both of Columbia, and Jessica McCurdy of Vandalia; and one grandson, Robert Mudd.

Mrs. Rucker was a Baptist by faith. She worked for Ralls County School District as a cook at the elementary school in Perry for 15 years. She was a graduate of Mark Twain High School.

Pallbearers will be Kevin McCurdy, Joshua McCurdy, Chris Cowden, Rob Mudd, Tony Cowden, Gary Dicks, Sam Mahood and Charles Janes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Mudd II, Rodney Flowers and Dale Brown.

Edythe McDuffee
July 21, 1919 - Jan. 2, 2002

CLARENCE - Edythe McDuffee, 82, of Clarence, died at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Clarence Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Clarence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Beryl Cragg will officiate. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence.

Visitation was Thursday at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence.

Mrs. McDuffee was born July 21, 1919, in Clarence to Robert L. Vickers Sr. and Hallie Mae Wickham Vickers.

She was married to Raymond McDuffee on Nov. 25, 1943, in Shelbyville. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Dr. Terry McDuffee of Redlands, Calif.; one daughter, Vicki Garton of Nevada, Mo.; four grandchildren, George Garton of Nevada, John Garton of Venice, Italy, and Kelsey McDuffee and Anderson McDuffee, both of Redlands, Calif.; one brother, Robert Vickers of Clarence; and one sister, Evelyn Meadows of Clarence.

Mrs. McDuffee was a 1937 graduate of Clarence High School and received a bachelor's degree in education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville.

She was an active member of Clarence United Methodist Church and participated in community activities. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Southern Aires Extension Club.

Memorials may be made to Clarence United Methodist Church.
