Charlene Reeder Johnston
QUINCY, Ill. Charlene Reeder Johnston, 71, of Quincy, Ill., died at 8:55 p.m. Jan. 25, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 29, in Quincy. Father Austin Albers will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Mrs. Johnston was born March 15, 1928, in Hannibal to Adlia and Ruth Lappin Reeder.
She was married to Carl M. Johnston on Nov. 27, 1946, in Hannibal. He survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Carla J. Gosney of Quincy; two sons, Craig J. Johnston and Clinton D. Johnston, both of Hannibal; seven grandchildren, Christopher T. Gosney and Nicholas D. Gosney, both of Quincy, and Jacob C. Johnston, Zachary R. Johnston, Caleb S. Johnston, Jennifer L. Johnston and Jessica A. Johnston, all of Hannibal; and one sister, Genevieve Fry of Memphis, Tenn., and formerly of Palmyra.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Thurman Reeder; and two sisters, Esther Stephenson and infant Marjorie.
Mrs. Johnston was an assembly line worker for Motorola Company for more than 20 years and retired when the company closed the Quincy operation. She was then the assistant manager at Hickory Farms for more than 10 years. For three years she was employed at Niemann Foods in the demonstration department.
Mrs. Johnston was a 1946 graduate of Hannibal High School. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of the Moose. For the past 10 years, she and her husband had spent the winter months at the Fun-N-Sun trailer park in San Benito, Texas.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
Elizabeth A. Dodd
HANNIBAL Elizabeth A. Dodd, 87, of Hannibal, died at 5:45 a.m. Jan. 27, 2000, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hannibal. The Revs. Calvin Albert Jr., Michael Miller, and Robert Axton will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Mrs. Dodd was born Oct. 26, 1912, in Hannibal to Frank and Minnie Weidman Hamann.
She was married to John A. Dodd on May 11, 1931, in New London. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1991.
Survivors include one son, David Dodd of St. Louis; four daughters, Margaret A. Hathaway and Sandra J. Karr, both of Hannibal, Linda S. Wade of Paragould, Ark., and Marilyn R. Dilley of Kinderhook, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; five sisters; and one son, Robert Lee Dodd.
Mrs. Dodd worked as a nurses aide at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Hannibal for 28 years. She was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Gospel Lighthouse Church of Hannibal.
Pallbearers will be Steve Karr, Gary Hathaway, Randy Howe, Kevin Wade, Jonathon Fuqua and Andrew Fuqua.
Mary Leona Tepper
FRANKFORD Mary Leona Tepper, 96, of Catoosa, Okla., and formerly of Hannibal, died at 4:04 p.m. Jan. 26, 2000, at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Catoosa.
Memorial services will be at a later date with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Frankford.
Mrs. Tepper was born Dec. 3, 1903, in Atchison County, Kan., to William Brown and Mary Louise Chalfant Dean.
She was married to Donald Franklin Tepper on Feb. 18, 1923, in Frankford. He preceded her in death July 15, 1963.
Survivors include one son, Donald Dean Tepper of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Barbara Josephine Donaldson of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, John William (Jack) Tepper; two sisters, Alice Amanda Dean and Florence Elvira Dean; and two brothers, William Brown Dean and Marion Lynn Dean.
Mrs. Tepper formerly worked for the International Shoe Company in Hannibal at the rubber plant. She was a member of South Side Christian Church in Hannibal, and a member of Crown and Scepter Chapter No. 1 Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Gethsemane Shrine No. 6.
She had made her home in the Tulsa area the past two years to be near her family.
The Smith Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.
Lowery L. Snipes
TROY Lowery L. Snipes, 75, of Troy, died at 6 a.m. Jan. 27, 2000, at Troy Manor.
Graveside services for Mr. Snipes will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Glenwood Cemetery in Tupelo, Miss.
Mr. Snipes was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Kodiak, Alaska, to Frank and Audrey Lowery Snipes.
He was married to Nell Lumpkin on Nov. 11, 1946, in Tupelo. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Frank Snipes of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Fay Taylor of Northport, Ala.; one brother, G.G. Snipes of Clearwater, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth M. Snipes.
Mr. Snipes had worked as manager of outside production at McDonnell-Douglas Corp. in St. Louis for more than 26 years. He received his juris doctor degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the charity of the donor's choice, in care of McCoy & Blossom Funeral in Troy.
Harold L. Carothers
CLARENCE Harold L. Carothers, 69, of Clarence, died at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 26, 2000, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Clarence Christian Church. David Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence. Military rites will be conducted at graveside.
Mr. Carothers was born May 20, 1930, in Clarence to Willard Lester and Creola Pansy Copenhaver Carothers.
He was married to Mary Louise Malloy on Dec. 30, 1952, in Macon. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Harold Dean Carothers, Dennie L. Carothers, Tim K. Carothers and Shane R. Carothers, all of Clarence; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sonja Karen Atterberry.
Mr. Carothers was a member of Clarence Christian Church, Clarence American Legion and Clarence V.F.W. He graduated from Clarence High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence.
Pallbearers will be Greg Atterberry, Brent Atterberry, Jim Edwards, David Jones, Tim Harvey and Dan Harvey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth (Doc) Ralls, Bob Butler, Bob McCarty, Jim Wood, Jack Wood and Charles Ellyson.
Gertrude Leake
April 10, 1918 - Jan. 4, 2001
HANNIBAL Gertrude Weekly Leake, 82, of Palmyra and formerly of Hannibal, died at 2:12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Leake was born April 10, 1918, in Busch to Robert L. and Bertha Gillett Moore.
She was married to James L. Weekly Sr. on July 11, 1936. He preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1969. She was later married to Loyd Leake on Feb. 4, 1978. He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1983.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Likes of Hannibal; two sons, James L. Weekly Jr., of Papillion, Neb., and Joseph Weekly of Hannibal; one stepdaughter; three stepsons; two sisters, Lucille Bullard of Culver City, Calif., and Cecil Ada Waddell of Hannibal; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Leake was a retired sales clerk from S.S. Kresge's in Hannibal.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Unit at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.
Pallbearers will be Richard Waddell, Roger Likes, J.C. Steele, James (Bill) Baker, Jamie Bechtold, Jim Hoover and Jason Bechtold.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Bechtold and Jim Robinson.
Genevieve G. Neff

HANNIBAL Genevieve G. Neff, 80, of Hannibal, died at 3:28 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Southside Baptist Church in Hannibal. Pastor Alvin Young will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Neff was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Novelty to James H. and Myrtle Mann Garnett.
She was married to Wayne E. Hubble on Aug. 5, 1937. He preceded her in death July 24, 1974. She was married to Dr. Dale H. Neff on Feb. 14, 1975. He survives.
Other survivors include one son, Ronald E. Hubble of Quincy, Ill.; one daughter, Geniece Beswick of Hannibal; and one stepson, Bill Neff of Hannibal.
The family wishes to include as survivors: two daughters-in-law, Eleanor Hubble of Quincy and Pandy Neff of Hannibal; one son-in-law, Bill Beswick of Hannibal; six grandchildren, Kevin Hubble and wife, Brenda, of St. Peters, R. Craig Beswick and wife, Lori, of Philadelphia, Melissa Reardon of Hannibal; and Mark Hubble and wife, Laurie, Kim Gibson and husband, John, and Bradley Beswick and wife, Cindy, all of Quincy; 15 great-grandchildren, Heather, Brittany and Jill Hubble, Ryan and Abagail Hubble, Dillon, Aaron and Reilly Gibson, and Alexis and Amanda Beswick, all of Quincy; Joshua Reardon of Hannibal, and Amanda, Alexandra, Adam and Abagail Morrell, all of Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Opal Dodd; and four brothers, Orville Garnett, William Garnett, Everett Garnett and Earl McCannon.
Mrs. Neff was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Hubble, Mark Hubble, Bradley Beswick, R. Craig Beswick, John Gibson, Joshua Reardon and Bill Beswick.

Raymond F. Yager

MONROE CITY Raymond Francis Yager, 90, of Monroe City, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City. Father Bill Flanagan and Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City, with a parrish Rosary service at 7 p.m. today.
Mr. Yager was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Monroe County to James William and Martha Stella Carrico Yager.
He was married to Clarissa Mabel Hagan on Oct. 1, 1940, in Monroe City. She preceded him in death April 4, 1981. He was later married to Allene See. She preceded him in death April 4, 1985.
Survivors include one son, Raymond F. (Snooks) Yager Jr. of Colona, Ill.; two grandchildren, Christine Yager of Cool Valley, Ill., and Scott Douglas Yager of Ames, Iowa; one sister, Cecelia Adam of Indian Creek; and one brother, John B. Yager of Monroe City.
Mr. Yager was a truck driver for Henderson Produce Co. in Monroe City for many years.
Mr. Yager was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He attended St. Stephens Catholic School in Indian Creek. He enjoyed dancing and gardening.
Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Tom Yager, Danny Adam, Bill Adam, Scott Yager, Rich Seward, Cliff Seward and Mark Yager.
Fred Hill Jr.
LOUISIANA Fred Hill Jr. , 69, of Louisiana, died at 10 a.m. Jan. 27, 2000.
Funeral services for Mr. Hill will be at 11 a.m. today at Sterne Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Alexandar Jones will officiate.
Mr. Hill was born May 4, 1930, at Cairo, Ill. to Fred and Lottie Avery Hill.
He was married to Thersa Hill. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Reggie Burns, Todd Hill, Fred Hill III and Curtiss Hill; three daughters, Winnie Hill, Carlla Hill and Marie Morris; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hill and Willie Hill.
Mr. Hill was an upholsterer and landscaper. He was associated with the Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed studying the Bible.
Pallbearers will be Reggie Burns, Todd Hill, Fred Hill III, Curtiss Hill, John Minor and David Sterne.
