Marguerite Johnson
WEST PEORIA, Ill. Marguerite H. Johnson, 92, of St. Joseph's Home in West Peoria, Ill., and formerly of Topeka, Kan., died at 10:35 p.m. Jan. 9, 2000, at her home.
A memorial Mass was conducted Jan. 12 at St. Joseph's Home. The Rev. Edward Roberts officiated. The body was cremated and burial will be at a later date at Holy Family Cemetery in Hannibal.
Mrs. Johnson was born June 8, 1907, in Hannibal to Jeremiah and Mary O'Reilly Hart.
Survivors include three grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Finke; three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Johnson had worked as a dietitian for St. Francis Hospital in Topeka for 15 years, retiring in 1972. She attended Nazareth College in Bardstown, Ky., and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Home.

John Preston Hymers
HANNIBAL John Preston Hymers, 84, of Hannibal, died at 10:09 a.m. Jan. 17, 2000, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Robert Boyd will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Mr. Hymers was born May 12, 1915, in Monroe City to Preston Etson and Ella Belle Lee Hymers.
He was married to Rosemary Knickerbocker on Aug. 5, 1945, in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, John David Hymers and Donald Eugene Hymers, both of Hannibal; three grandchildren, Eric Hymers, James Hymers and Melissa Thomeczek; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a twin sister, Mary Belle Lee; one brother, Etson Hymers; and two grandchildren, Joseph David Hymers and Michael Aaron Hymers.
Mr. Hymers formerly worked for the Universal Atlas Cement Company in Hannibal. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Greg Mastin, Dennis Rupp, Mark Homan, Steve Gilbert, Hays Layton and Kevin Mastin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Kroencke, Ron Viar, Chris Yarbrough and Ken Boyd.
Betty Jean Roland
RENSSELAER Betty Jean Roland, 66, of Rensselaer, died Jan. 17, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. Jason Hargrave will officiate. Burial will be at the Olivet Cemetery in Center.
Mrs. Roland was born Nov. 3, 1933, in Rice, Ill., to Floyd and Anna Jones Hubler.
She was married to Donald Eugene Roland on Jan. 31, 1952, in Edwardsville, Ill. He preceded her in death March 2, 1995.
Survivors include her mother of New London; one son, Robert Jess Roland of Lewistown; two daughters, Linda Dillman of Quincy, Ill., and Marsha Ann Basler of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Kristen Dillman, Kelly Fannin, MaRanda Roland, Robert Roland, Raymond Roland, Jeffrey Rolland and Tara Epley; and three sisters, Shirley Carver of New London, Myrtle Brown of Granite City, Ill., and Eleanor Love of Madison, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her father; and one son, Royce W. Roland.
Mrs. Roland attended school in Granite City, Ill., and was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church of Rensselaer. She and her husband were Ralls County farmers and dairymen near Rensselaer for many years. She also worked for many years at the Rocket Truck Stop as a cashier.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mel Dillman, Scott Basler, Robert Brown, Larry Roland, Robert Roland and Raymond Roland.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Hospice program.
Rosalie Sinowski
WYOMING, Mich. Rosalie Sinowski, 71, of Wyoming, Mich., and formerly of Chicago, Ill., died at 5 a.m. Jan. 16, 2000, at her grandson's home in Wyoming.
Memorial services will be at a later date.
Mrs. Sinowski was born Aug. 28, 1928, in McLeansboro, Ill., to Omar and Florence Hungate Hart.
She was married to Marion Monroe. She was later married to Edward Sinowski who preceded her in death.
Survivors include one brother, Weldon Hart of Park Forest, Ill.; one daughter, Sharon D. Rose of Hannibal; one son, Jeff Monroe of Chicago; and five grandchildren, Robert Dornhecker of Wyoming, Mich., Joseph Dornhecker of Owensboro, Ky., Sharon Whittaker of Taylor, and Frank Rose and Evelyn Frye, both of Hannibal; and 11 great-grandchildren.
James Arlie Colbert
LOUISIANA James Arlie Colbert, 73, of Louisiana, died Jan. 19, 2000, at his home.
The body was cremated and in honor of his request, there will be no services.
Mr. Colbert was born March 10, 1926, in Silex to Samuel Foster and Martha Ann Fergueson Colbert.
He was married to Emma Patrick on Aug. 4, 1957, in Bowling Green. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Bob Patrick and Bob Lee Colbert, both of Louisiana; two daughters, Betty Barron of Elsberry and Susie Hager of Louisiana; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Colbert; an infant daughter; two brothers, Roy Lee Colbert and Clement Colbert; four sisters, Edith Colbert, Lola Bradshaw, Lydia Howland and Blanche Cannon.
Mr. Colbert was a lifelong resident of Pike County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the V.F.W. in Clarksville.
The Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green is in charge of the arrangements.
Elmer Connor
VANDALIA Elmer Connor, 83, of Vandalia, died at 6:20 a.m., Jan. 19, 2000, at his home in Vandalia.
Funeral services for Mr. Connor will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at Waters Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William Givens will officiate. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery.
Mr. Connor was born Jan. 25, 1913, to Arthur Sr. and Mattie Proctor Connor.
He was married to Grace J. Connor. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Robert E. Connor; four stepdaughters, Deloris, Viola, Frances and Evon, all of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Naomi Chad of Wentzville and Megaline, of Hannibal; a devoted friend, Rhoda Kerr of Vandalia; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Brock Connor.
Mr. Connor had been a Vandalia resident for several years. He enjoyed fishing.
Visitation will be from noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Zella M. Nutt
VANDALIA Zella M. Nutt, 69, of rural Vandalia, died at 3:39 p.m. Jan. 19, 2000, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nutt will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, at Waters Funeral Chapel. Sammy Lorton and Keith Gordon will officiate. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery.
Mrs. Nutt was born March 29, 1930, in rural Ralls County to William Cleo and Zella Cecil Benn Ledford.
She was married to John I. Nutt March 28, 1947, in Vandalia. He survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Billy Nutt, Charles Nutt and Ronnie Nutt, all of Vandalia; one daughter, Ruth Ann Nutt of New London; two sisters, Mary Fern See and Jo Ann Henderson, both of Vandalia; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Nutt had been a homemaker on the family farm north of Vandalia all of her married life. She was a lifelong Vandalia area resident.
She was a member of the Hays Creek Christian Church for nearly 40 years.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or The American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be Steve Nutt, Leslie Nutt, Brandon Nutt, David Nutt, and Raymond Kirtlink.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Coates, Bobby See, Gabe Jennings and Mark Black.
Ruby E. Sweet
KEOKUK, Iowa Ruby E. Sweet, 95, of Hannibal and formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 19, 2000, at Levering Regional Health Care Center in Hannibal.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk. Gary Zeh will officiate.
Mrs. Sweet was born July 5, 1904, in Keokuk to Arthur and Nina Roberts Richard.
She was married to Charles Sweet in 1957. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one nephew, Arthur Bert Richards of Huntsville, Texas; three nieces, Velma Jones of Keokuk, Sally Richards Krieger of Davenport, Iowa, and Joyce Wells of Birmingham, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur I. Richards and Harold Richard.
Mrs. Sweet was a private music teacher and one of Jehovah's Witness.
No visitation is planned.

Nora Z. Gaw
BOWLING GREEN Nora Z. Gaw, 90, of Bowling Green, died Jan. 19, 2000, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Whiteside Presbyterian Church. The funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. from Kirks Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green to go to the church. The Rev. Randal D. Cone will officiate. Burial will be at Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood.
Mrs. Gaw was born April 18, 1909, in Whiteside to George Edward and Mattie Colbert Colbert.
She was married to Eugene Gaw on May 29, 1935. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1994.
Survivors include three sons, Alfred Colbert of Whiteside, and Charley Cox and Billy Gene Gaw, both of Bowling Green; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Gaw; and three brothers, John William Colbert, Harry Colbert and Everett Colbert.
Mrs. Gaw had been a homemaker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and Whiteside Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Kirks Funeral Chapel, and from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Whiteside Presbyterian Church.
Bernice Shively
SHELBINA Bernice Shively, 89, of Shelbina, died at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 20, 2000, at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina. Father Chris Cordes will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Shelbina.
Mrs. Shively was born Jan. 12, 1911, in Shelby County to William Frederick and Blanche Elizabeth Kellogg Cochrane.
She was married to Herschel T. Shively on Feb. 14, 1932, in Shelbyville. He preceded her in death March 11, 1980.
Survivors include four children, Freddie L. Shively of Shelbyville, Phyllis Barley of East Alton, Ill., Mary Troxell of Chicago, Ill., and Ann Kammerer of Raleigh, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Glenn and Andy Chochrane; and four sisters, Alma Magruder, Josephine Snider, Mildred Winslow and May Heald.
Mrs. Shively was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at today at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina.
Pallbearers will be Charles Snider, Ronnie McWilliams, Larry Shively, Walt Trivette, Herman Bennett, Phillip Roberts and Mark Barley.
