Cynthia Rathman
Cynthia Rathman, 45, of St. James died Sept. 13, 1999, at St. James.
Services were held Friday at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Larry Brixius and Father Jim Berning officiating.
Pallbearers were Edward A. Rathman, Ann Brandstedt, Don Brandstedt, Darrell Ellanson, Billy Rusten, Bobby Joe Murilla and E.J. Rusten.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Cynthia Kay Ellanson was born Oct. 15, 1953, in Madelia to Hans and Jeanette (Vee) Ellanson. She attended schools in Hanska and Madelia and in 1971, she married Edward A. Rathman Sr. Following their marriage they lived in St. James and Cynthia worked at Downs Foods, ST Industries, Ben Franklin, Pamida, was a day care provider, worked at St. James Automotive/Western Industries, had a custodial job at St. James Schools and did housekeeping for others.
She was a life member of St. James Catholic Church and the Church Circle.
Survivors include a son, Edward A. Rathman Jr., of Bingham Lake; daughter, Ann (Don) Brandstedt of Windom; brothers and sisters, June Morgan of Madelia; Gordon (Connie) Ellanson of LeCenter; Judy Murilla of Mankato; Ted Ellanson of Madelia; Kelly Ellanson of Evanston, Wyo.; Vicki (Duane) Larson of Spanaway, Wash.; Allen Ellanson of New Castle, Wyo.; and Eugene (Deb) Rusten of Madelia.
Peter Sawatzky
Peter Sawatzky, 79, of Butterfield died Sept. 18, 1999, at Mt. Lake.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in St. James with Father Jim Berning officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. James.
Peter Walter Sawatzky was born May 20, 1920, in Mt. Lake to Peter and Helena (Wall) Sawatzky. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Peter continued to live on the family farm following his parents death and he, his sister, Helen, and brother, Diedrich, farmed.
In 1975, he married Mary Voge. The couple made their home on the family farm until retiring and moving to Butterfield in 1995.
Peter was a member of St. James Catholic Church and served on the Township board.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Sawatzky; and brother, Diedrich.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Sawatzky of St. James; step children, Richard (Cathy) Bird of St. James; Linda (Randy) Siem of Litchfield; Marvin Ringheim of Fort Worth, Texas; Penny (Randy) Callander of South Haven; Robin (Joe) Hanson of St. James; nine step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
Walter Quiring
Walter Quiring, 82, of Salem, Oreg.; died Aug. 24, 1999.
No services were held. Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Ore.
Born in Frazier, Mont.; he served in the Air Force during World War II. He graduated from the National Technical Institute in Los Angeles and moved to Salem in 1961. He owned Quiring T.V. in West Salem and was a radio and television repair man, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the West Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; sons, Perry, of Salem; and George of Keizer; daughter, Sherry Bentley of Gresham, Ore.; a brother, Pete Quiring of Lewiston, Mont.; a sister, Pearl Schmidt of Glasgow, Mont.; and three grandchildren.
Leander Schroeder
Leander B. Schroeder, 75, of Elkhart died August 6, 1999, at the Elkhart General Hospital.
Services were held Wednesday at College Mennonite Church.
Interment was at the Prairie Street Cemetery.
Leander was born May 7, 1924, in Dolton, S.D., to Peter and Susie (Becker) Schroeder. He married Bernice Detwiler in 1950 in New Wilmington, Pa. He was a graduate of Goshen College and received his master’s degree from Indiana University.
He retired from the Concord Community Schools where he served as an elementary teacher and principal. He also delivered RVs for Warrick Industries during his retirement.
He was a member of College Mennonite Church where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Dunlap Lions Club where he recently was honored as having the most years served among the current members. He also sang with the "Men of Music" for many years.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsa Peters and Linda Nickel and three brothers, Jake, David and Curt.
Survivors include one daughter Susan (Malcolm) Rhoades of New Castle; three sons, Dan of Goshen, Jeffrey of New Paris and Richard of Chicago; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Alvina Schroeder and Delphe (Edwin) Derksen, both of Mt. Lake, and Leona Nickel of Anoka; four brothers, Will of Mt. Lake, Dennis of Mound, Ervin of Grand Rapids and Peter of Golden, Mo.
Priscilla Fleming
Priscilla Fleming, 62, of Mt. Lake died Aug. 11, 1999, at her home.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Alliance Missionary Church in Mt. Lake with Pastors Byron Emmert and Dennis Siebert officiating.
Special music was provided by Karla Sorensen, organist; and Jackie Bargen, Dean and Jackie Harder, James Schultz and Doug Standerwick, vocalists; Lori Golinghorst and Kurt Jahnke, accompanists.
Pallbearers were Ben Anderson, Sheldon Rahn, Brandon Junker, Tim Rahn, Dwight Rahn and Micah Siebert.
Honorary pallbearers were Katie Evers, Hiedie Hockel, Abbey Golinghorst, Janice Nelson, Amanda Haglund and Lindsey Youngren.
Interment was at Mt. Lake Cemetery in Mt. Lake.
Priscilla Jean Scholl was born Nov. 18, 1936, to Rudy and Ann (Holmquist) Scholl in St. Peter. She graduated from St. Peter High School.
In 1956, she married Dr. James Fleming in St. Peter. They lived in St. Peter; St. Louis, Mo.; and Minneapolis before moving to Mt. Lake in 1963.
In the mid 1970s, Priscilla and Jim received Jesus Christ as their Savior and made public confession of their faith with baptism in the Jordan River in Israel.
Priscilla worked as a secretary and receptionist for several businesses and at her husband’s office.
She was a member of the Alliance Missionary Church in Mt. Lake, serving there as a youth teacher and Deaconess. She was a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rudy Scholl.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. James Fleming of Mt. Lake; a daughter, Dr. Terra Fleming of Anoka; a son, Ross (Christine) Fleming of St. Paul; her mother, Anna Scholl of Red Wing; a sister, Sylvia (Don) Buermann of Red Wing.
