Elizabeth Szczodroski
Elizabeth (Betty) Szczodroski, age 95, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN, died February 1, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 4 at the Brenny-Simonet Funeral Home in Little Falls with Father Nick Lands-berger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Elizabeth was born in Rice, MN, on November 17, 1902, to Frank and Stella (Lentner) Stellmach. She married Anthony Szczodroski in Gilman, MN, in 1924. They owned a boarding house in Pontiac, MI, for many years. The couple moved to the rural Little Falls area where they worked on the farm. They retired and moved to the city of Little Falls.
Survivors include her son, Ken Szczodroski of Carson City, NV; two sisters, Evelyn Modejeski of Minneapolis, MN, and Rita Jedlicki of Rice, MN; three grandchildren, Gail Evans and David and Pat Szczodroski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; three brothers, Otto, Roman and Lawrence and one sister, Marcella.
Alphonse Weiss
Alphonse N. Weiss, age 92, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center, Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Alphonse was born and raised in Pierz, MN, on September 29, 1905, to Charles and Mary (Grell) Weiss. He was united in marr
iage to Rosabella (McGuire) Weiss on September 18, 1934, in Little Falls. He then worked for Minnesota Light and Power for most of his life, and was a member of the International Brother-hood of Electrical Workers for the last 51 years. Alphonse also loved to go fishing and to hunt.
Survivors include his wife, Rosabella; sons, Alphonse E. Weiss of Blaine, MN, and James Weiss of Little Falls; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly; six brothers and two sisters.
Ambrose Gelhar
Ambrose M. “Andy” Gelhar, age 74, a resident of rural Hillman, MN, died January 27, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian burial was held January 31 at Holy Family Church in Bulldog Lake with Father Vincent Ott officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Ambrose was born in St. Paul, MN, on November 10, 1923, to Leo A. and Catherine (Block) Gelhar. He served in the Maritime Service for nearly 35 years. Ambrose moved to Sullivan Lake during the 1960s, where he later retired. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, painting and photography. He was active in his church and was a member of the Lakes Area Lions Club.
Survivors include brothers, Leo H. and wife Janet of Minnetonka, MN, and Robert J. and wife Billie of Beaverton, OR; sisters, Mary A. Tyler and husband Bill of Eden Prairie, MN, and Leora R. Mahood of Lenexa, KS; 10 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were Steve, Jim and Herman Gelhar, Joel Tyler, Mike Gallagher, Tom Gelhar, Mark Kloempken and Bill Mahood.
Mark Mueller
Mark L. Mueller, age 42, a resident of Long Prairie, MN, formerly of the Swanville, MN, area, died January 31, 1998, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held February 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie with Rev. William Postel officiating. Burial was in the Bearhead Cemetery, near Pillsbury, MN.
Mark was born January 20, 1956, in Little Falls, MN, the son of LeRoy and Bertha (Thompson) Mueller. He grew up in the Swanville area and attended Swanville schools. Mark farmed with his family in the Swanville area until 1973 when the family moved to a farm west of Long Prairie. Mark continued to work the family farm until illness caused him to quit. He loved his twin daughters and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mark was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie.
Survivors include his daughters, Crisy Mueller of Fergus Falls, MN, and Nicky Mueller of Duluth, MN; father, LeRoy Mueller of Long Prairie; brothers, Neil Mueller of Long Prairie and Steven Mueller of Long Prairie and nephews, Curt and Andy Mueller of Long Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha on September 9, 1991.
Pallbearers were David “Buzz” Barber, James Moldenhauer, Larry Wolbeck, Jerry Wolbeck, Tim Ritter and Roger Berkness.
Beatrice Tuller
Beatrice “Bea” E. Tuller, age 85, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1998, at the Maplewood Care Center in Maplewood, MN.
Funeral services were held January 31 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.
Beatrice was born September 12, 1912, in Glenwood City, WI, to the late Louis B. Larson and Christine Blomberg. She attended school in Glenwood City. She was united in marriage to Lyle A. Tuller on November 7, 1936, in the Fort Snelling Chapel at Fort Snelling, MN. In May of 1939 the couple moved to Little Falls. Bea worked at Victor Clothing, Camp Ripley and later from her home as a seamstress. She was a member of First United Church in Little Falls, Eastern Star and a former member of the Little Falls Garden Club.
Survivors include a brother, Dennis “Jack” Larson of Maple-wood; brother-in-law, Clarence Tuller and wife Regina of Little Falls and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle on January 24, 1996; parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Bessie Kedrowski
Bessie Emma Kedrowski, age 92, a resident of Swanville, MN, died January 28, 1998, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held January 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN, with Father Tony Kroll officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Flensburg.
Bessie was born January 16, 1906, in Todd County to Adolph and Mary (Hardec) Vavra. During her lifetime, she grew up and attended the lake Beauty Country School. She married John Kedrowski in October of 1921 at Sacred Heart Church in Flensburg. Bessie and John lived on their farm in Morrison County. Bessie was a member of the Rosary Sodality at Sacred Heart. In July of 1995, due to declining health, Bessie became a resident at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.
Survivors include her sons, Albert and wife Shirley, John and wife Wilma, Paul and James, all of Swanville and Larry and wife Karen of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Evelyn Carlson and husband Marshall of Pine City, MN, Geraldine Lodl and husband Leonard of Dodge, NE, and Joan Pearson and husband Dave of Little Falls; brothers, Adolph Vavra, Jr., of Scottsdale, AZ, and William Vavra of Motley, MN; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on September 10, 1978, and a sister, Lily Steinert.
Casketbearers were grandchildren Grant Pearson, David, Steven, Brant and Kurt Kedrowski and Dan Carlson.
Hattie Moe
Hattie Edith Moe, age 94, a resident of Port Angeles, WA, died December 18, 1997, in Port Angeles.
At her request, no services were held.
Hattie was born March 30, 1903, in Raymond, MN, to James W. and Laura Alice (Mallette) Dayton. She married Harold R. Moe December 5, 1922, in Burtrum, MN. She moved from Minnesota to Port Angeles in 1954 and was active with the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries, Daughters of the American Revolution and Navy Mothers.
Survivors include son, Gerald of Port Angeles; daughters, Elaine Cluka of Little Falls, MN, and Despo Storstad of Deerwood, MN; sister, Edna Dayton of Port Angeles and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Little Falls at St. Gabriel’s Hospital.
