Jacqueline G. "Jackie" Witt
Aug. 26, 1928 - March 11, 2001
Jacqueline G. "Jackie" Witt, 72, a Detroit Lakes resident the past 40 years, died Sunday, March 11, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, from the David - Donehower Chapel.
Rev. Tim Cook officiated at the service.
Interment was at the Lake View Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Kemit Rodewald, Ward Luneberg, "Robbie Simms, Glen Schattschneider, Kevin Stall, Josh Kilde and Julio Pitre.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kris Pitre, Sara Pitre, Ethan Pitre, Tristan Pitre, Jason Schmidt, Michael Witt, Nicholas Selck and Samantha Selck.
Jacqueline Gail Peterson, daughter of Milo and Elizabeth Thompson Peterson, was born at Carbondale, Colo., on Aug. 26, 1928, where she was raised and attended school.
On Feb. 20, 1948, she and Carl "Ray" Witt were married in Glenwood Springs, Colo.
They lived in Tacoma, Wash., until moving to Fargo in 1955 and moved to Detroit Lakes in 1961.
Mrs. Witt was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital (1969 - 85) and at Dakota Clinic (1985 - 94).
Surviving are three sons - Carl, San Antonio, Tex.; Mike (Patty Clark) and Scott, both Detroit Lakes, and two daughters - Marsha Schmidt and Tracy (Mike) Selck, both Detroit Lakes. There are five grandchildren and three great - grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband (who died in 1986).
Darrell J. "Moon" Carpenter.
May 23, 1943 - March 12, 2001
Rites were at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, from St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth for Darrell J. "Moon" Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter, 57, a resident of the Lutheran Memorial Home in Twin Valley and formerly of White Earth, died at the White Earth Clinic on Monday, March 12.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Darrell James Carpenter, son of Clifford and Rita St. Clair Carpenter, was born May 23, 1943, in Cass Lake.
He grew up and attended school at White Earth and, after school, moved to Minneapolis and worked at various jobs throughout the years..
During the 1980s, he resided at White Earth for some time and then moved from Minneapolis to White Earth in 1995. He entered the Lutheran Memorial Home at Twin Valley last December.
Mr. Carpenter, who was a member of the American Indian Movement, enjoyed music.
Surviving are his mother - Rita Rogers, White Earth; two sisters - Beverly (Bill) Means and Jean Rogers, Minneapolis; two brothers - James (Marlene) Rogers, White Earth, and Frank (companion of Pamela Quinn), Minneapolis. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mr. Carpenter in death was a brother (George Rogers).
Thomas B. Weston.
Feb. 2, 1951 - March 14, 2001
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, from Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes for Thomas B. Weston.
Mr. Weston, 50, died Wednesday, March 14, at SCCI Hospital in Fargo.
The Rev. Dan C. Abrahams will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Allan Larson, Jan Larson, Steve Michaelson, Jon Michaelson, Steve Fick, Jerry Daily, Larry Daily, Greg Anderson and Christine Anderson.
Thomas Bruce Weston, son of Vernon and Edith "Jeanette" Mackner Weston, was born Feb. 2, 1951, in Detroit Lakes.
He was raised in Detroit Lakes, attended the Faribault School for the Deaf and then attended the Thief River Falls Area Vocational Technical Institute (AVTI) auto body program.
Mr. Weston worked for Arctic Cat for a year and then returned to Detroit Lakes and attended the welding program at the Detroit Lakes AVTI. He later completed the small engine program at the Detroit Lakes AVTI and was employed by several firms in the area.
A member of the Minnesota Deaf Association and a past vice chairman of the organization, he also belonged to the Fargo Deaf Club.
Surviving are his mother - Jeanette Weston, Detroit Lakes, and two sisters - Virginia Weston and Cindy Weston, both Detroit Lakes. A niece and great - niece also survive.
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral at Zion Lutheran Church.
Arvid M. Anderson
Jan. 8, 1921 - March 14, 2001
Arvid M. Anderson, 80, Detroit Lakes, died at the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center in Fargo on Wednesday, March 14.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, from Grace Lutheran Church.
Rev. Mark R. Olson officiated at the funeral and Phyllis McLeod was the organist.
Interment was at Hegland Cemetery, rural Hawley, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Everett Anderson, Ernie (Glenn) Anderson, Curt Anderson, Erlin Hovelson, James Olson and Dean Chadbourne.
The honorary pallbearers included Arnt Olson, Floyd Anderson, Paul Johnston, Gordon Olson, Ernest Grani and Gordon Sellin.
Arvid M. Anderson, son of Arthur and Martha Anderson, was born Jan. 8, 1921, at Hawley.
He grew up and attended country school at rural Hawley and then served with the U. S. Army (1942 - 45) during World War II.
Mr. Anderson returned to Hawley and farmed upon receiving his discharge from the armed forces.
On Nov. 29, 1952, he and Clarice Nelson were married in Hawley.
They lived and farmed at rural Hawley and he also worked for John Deere for 25 years. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1964 and he retired from John Deere in 1986.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and The American Legion.
Surviving are his wife - Clarice; three sons - Everett and Glenn "Ernie" (Bonnie), both Detroit Lakes, and Curtis (Jane), Frazee, and a sister - Marion (Arnt) Olson, Renton Wash. There are five grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Anderson in death were his parents and two brothers (Arvid and Earl).
Genevieve Lindstrom
June 16, 1915 - March 17, 2001
Genevieve Lindstrom, 85, who was Woman of the Year in Detroit Lakes in 1954, died Saturday, March 17, at Sunnyside Nursing Home east of Lake Park, where she had resided since last year.
The funeral was at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, from Eksjo Lutheran Church west of Lake Park.
Rev. Randy Whitehead officiated at the funeral, Mercedes Roos was the organist and the vocalist was Dorothy Clark.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the Vigen - Wright Funeral Home of Lake Park in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were John Lindstrom, Paul Langseth, Mark Miller, Paul Carlson, Gregg Magnuson and Don Blanding.
Genevieve Emma Walstrom, daughter of Swen and Lena Bergquist Walstrom, was born on June 16, 1915, in Little Fork, grew up in Highland Grove Township of Clay County (near Hitterdal) and then moved with her family to Minneapolis, where she graduated from high school.
On Nov. 6, 1937, Genevieve Walstrom and Rodney Lindstrom were married at Lake Park.
They lived at Thief River Falls (1937 - 41), at Storm Lake, Ia. (1941 - 44) and then moved to a farm near Lake Park.
They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1959 and then returned to Lake Park in 1997. From 1977 - 97, they wintered at Apache Junction, Ariz.
Mrs. Lindstrom was a part - time matron at the Becker County Jail for 19 years and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary at Detroit Lakes and at Lake Park.
Surviving are her husband - Rodney, Lake Park; a son - Vincent (Dorothy Clark) Lindstrom, Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren; two shared granddaughters; two shared great - granddaughters, and two sisters - Delores Miller, Minneapolis, and Judith Swenson, Moorhead.
Dorothy T. Swenson
Oct. 28, 1919 - March 18, 2001
The funeral for Dorothy T. Swenson will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 23, from Cormorant Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Swenson, 81, died at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes on Sunday, March 18.
Rev. Lori Beck will officiate at the funeral and Leona Jordahl will be the organist.
Interment will be at Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery, with the Vigen - Wright Funeral Home of Lake Park in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy T. Tollefson, daughter of Alfred and Mayme Christensen Tollefson, was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Walhalla, N. D.
She grew up and attended school in the Callaway and Waubun area.
On Dec. 15, 1942, she married George M. Swenson in Oakland, Calif.
Mr. Swenson served in the military and they lived in various places throughout the world until retiring in 1980 and moving to Middle Cormorant Lake near Lake Park.
Surviving are two sisters - Ada Tietz, Myrtle Beach, N. C., and Irene Kerman, Castro Valley, Calif.
Preceding her in death was her husband, who died July 16, 1985.
