Richard Brown, 61, of 619 N. German, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest Section. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by New Ulm veterans' organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm. A parish prayer service is at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Scott Riederer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kim Brown, of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sarah Brown of Rapid City, S.D., James Brown of Mankato, Robert Brown and his fiancee, Michelle Stoner of Lake Crystal, and Scott and Denise Brown, of New Ulm; ten grandchildren, a great grandson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty and Arnie Goblirsch of Wabasso, Cathy and Bernie Baune of St. George, Mary and Neal Johnson of New Sweden, and Margaret and Greg Barrett of Madelia; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Mona Brown of Lakefield and Paul and Grace Brown of Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in New Ulm, to Henry and Evelyn (Wilfahrt) Brown. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from November 1956 to October 1959. He married Elaine Springer on July 2, 1959, in Escondido, Calif. They returned to New Ulm where he managed the Derby gas station for 19 years. He also worked for the Backerei & Coffee Shop for 17 years. He retired in August 1999. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Beulah Starrett, 82, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at the Burns Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, rural Buffalo Lake.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hughes Funeral Home and Saturday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don Kalkbrenner of Spicer; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sharon Starrett of Hutchinson, Donald and Janet Starrett of Denver, Colo., Michael and Gladys of Costa Mesa, Calif.; twelve grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marvel Manfull of Tama, Iowa and Cleo Holyer of Mountain Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1973, two brothers, a sister, a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was born July 8, 1917, at Bingham Lake, to Irvin and Eva Lee (Merrified) Smith. She married Ray Starrett on February 15, 1937, in Iowa. They lived near Mountain Lake until 1938 when they moved to a farm south of Hector. They moved to a farm north of Buffalo Lake in 1942 where she lived until 1996 when she moved to the Park Towers in Hutchinson. She moved to Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson in 1998.

Esther W. Becker, 93, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at the Meriter Health Center.
Services were held April 19, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Park.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and wife Sandy of Monticello and Eugene Becker of Echo; a daughter, Jeanette and husband Edward of San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alys Daniels of Crystal; sisters-in-law, Martha Pufahl and Violet Becker, and a brother-in-law, Adolph Stahl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harvey; grandsons, Vincent Becker and James Wilson; a brother, Armin Pufahl and an infant brother; a sister, Lydia Stahl, a daughter-in-law, Jan Becker, and a brother-in-law, Leslie Becker.
She was born June 11, 1906, in New Ulm to August and Emma Pufahl. She married Harvey Becker on Aug. 2, 1926. Harvey preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1983. She was a member of First Congregational Church.

Bruce Mattison, 50, of St. James, died Thursday, August, 3, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial Mountain Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife Cathy, of St. James; sons, Tim and Ryan of St. James; father, Milford of Bingham Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Kathy of Soldotna, Alaska, Mark and Cindy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and David and Heidi of Windom; mother and father-in-law, Arnold and Elaine Regier of Mountain Lake; sisters-in-law and husbands, Kirsten and Bill Freitag of St. James, Ruth and Mark Forsline of Minneapolis, and Carol Regier of Newton, Kan.; brother-in-law and wife, Arne and Peggy Regier of Hackensack; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, step-mother, Ruth Mattison, and sister Marilyn Mattison.
He was born June 4, 1950, in Mountain Lake, to Milford and Phyllis (Ratzloff) Mattison. He graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1968. He traveled in Europe in 1972 before returning home and working at the Green Giant plant in St. James until it closed in 1980. He worked for M&M Signs in Mankato for two years. He operated the Gambles store in St. James from 1982 to 1985 and operated Mattison Signs and Designs from his home. He enjoyed history and the reenactment of fur trading from the 1800s.

Helen Sparby, 84, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cornerstone Christian Church (Church of Christ), Redwood Falls, with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Richard Benson of Redwood Falls; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Maude Sparby of Olivia; son Bob Sparby of Savage; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Bessie Hogstad of Ingelwood, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1982.
She was born Oct. 16, 1915 in Redwood Falls, to Charles and Etta (Redding) Schelkoph. She attended Redwood Falls Public School. She was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Willis Briggs, 82, of Mankato, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at the Mankato House.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Mankato.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, of Mankato; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Benno Sydow of Roseville, and Lynn and Mark Paulson of Stevensville, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one great grandson; and Ruth's children, James Firle and Thomas Firle, both of New Ulm, and Denise Firle Leitz of East Troy, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and one sister.
He was born Sept. 7, 1917 at Mankato to Marshall and Vinnie (Johnson) Briggs. He grew up and attended school in Mankato. He served in the U.S. Army from July 10, 1942 to Oct. 23, 1945. He married Doris Borchard March 17, 1946 in Mankato. She died May 26, 1986. He married Ruth Firle Dec. 26, 1992. He worked for Brakke-Benzie Oldsmobile-Buick for 40 years as a mechanic and service manager. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 11.

John Knisley, 85, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, August 3, 2000, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bechyn.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and 8:30-9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie, of Redwood Falls; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Mabel of Perry, Iowa, Lloyd and Evelyn of New Ulm and Craten and Bernadine of Olivia; sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Ben Serbus of Redwood Falls; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.
He was born January 27, 1915, in Henryville Township, Renville County, to Albert and Mary (Malecek) Knisley. He lost his eyesight in a 1940 car accident and enrolled in a school for the blind in Faribault. He worked for the Judy Toy Company in Minneapolis and as an instructor for the blind. He also owned newspaper stands. He married Minnie Quast in Minneapolis. They retired and moved to North Redwood in September 1977. They both lived at the Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center since 1995.

Irene Youso, 85, formerly of Foley, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000 at St. Benedict's Care Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Foley, with burial at Assumption Cemetery and Mausoleum, St. Cloud.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Monday at Foley Funeral Home. Christian Mothers Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. and parish prayers at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by sons and daughters Bette Jayne and Louis Haak, St. Paul; Severin and Julie of Reston, Va.; LuVerne Molmberg of Palm Springs, Calif.; Ronald and Mary Ann of Foley; Gary and Roberta of Neenah, Wis.; Joan and John Wisniewski, New Ulm; Catherine and Dave Mumma, Janesville, Wis.; 18 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brother Ralph of Foley and sisters Julie Kreger, Waite Park; and Marie Quick, Glen Carbon, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Severyn; an infant son, John; brothers Maurice, John Leonard, Greg and a sister, Dolores O'Hara.
She was born August 15, 1914 in Gilmanton Township, rural Benton County to Frank and Mae (Foster) Henry. She graduated from St. Cloud Teacher's College and taught in Santiago, Buckman and Benton County rural schools. She married Severyn Youso February 3, 1936 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rockville. They co-owned and operated the Benton County News and in Foley for 50 years and also managed the Foley Parkway. She was a board member of the Central Minnesota RSVP and established the Benton County Chapter. She belonged to the Foley Lionesses, Christian Mothers, President's Association, St. John's University and St. Benedict's University, Onamia Crossier Apostulate and was an election judge for the City of Foley. She belonged to St. John's Catholic Church.

DuWayne Dennin, 50, of Brownton, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Hutchinson, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Brownton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hantge Funeral Chapel in Brownton, and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Leonard Anderson, 84, of Lamberton, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Valley View Manor.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Lamberton, with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton; and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Tracy; children, Luetta and Charles Schultz of Bloomington, Lois and Dennis Diedrich of Bloomington, Keith and Cheryl Anderson of Eagan, Kenneth and Marilyn Anderson of Atlanta, Ga., and Robin Anderson of Richfield; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Arvella and Vern Halvorson of Moorhead, Marlys Anderson of Akley; and four stepchildren, their spouses and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth in 1991; sister, Leota Fester; and a brother, Marstrand Anderson.
He was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, to Axel and Laura (Mattison) Anderson. He went to school in Granite Falls before the family moved to the Lamberton area in the 1930s. He belonged to Zion and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton. He married Elizabeth Wendt on Feb. 23, 1941 in Waterbury Township. She died in 1991. He married Ruth Wegner on March 10, 1995, in Marshall. He worked at the Kluegel Furniture Store and Funeral Home for over 25 years, drove school bus for the Lamberton School District and drove truck for Lamberton Stockyardss. He delivered ice to many homes in the Lamberton area and had a Minneapolis Star and Tribune rural paper route. After he retired, he drove seniors for the Western Community Action Council.

Vernon Meyers, 81, of Odin, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Trimont Health Care Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Odin, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors by the Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post 373 of Trimont and the Donald Larson VFW Post 9607 of Butterfield.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and at the church Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Edward Donohue, 84, of Lake Allie, Boon Lake Township, Renville County, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Stewart, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughes Funeral Home with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. and at the church Thursday, one hour prior to the service.

Georgia Budahn
TEMPERANCE, Mich. -- Georgia J. Budahn, 82, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in her home.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bedford Funeral Chapel, Temperance.
She is survived by her children Gary and Debra Budahn of California, Jeanine and Robert Smith of Temperance, Nancy and Larry Jenson of Iowa; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter, Barbara Jeanne.
She was born Aug. 23, 1917, to George and Emilie (Markiewitz) Gallas in Sioux City, Iowa. She moved to St. Paul where she lived until 1939. She taught at Arlington High School and married Burnell "Jack" Budahn on June 22, 1942, in St. Paul. They lived in Norwood. He died in April 1997. She directed a choir in Norwood. She lived in Temperance for the past 13 years with her daughter Jeanine and belonged to the Bedford Senior Citizens.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association.
