Dorothy Morris
GUTHRIE, Minn. -- Dorothy M. Morris, 85, Dallas, Ore., formerly of Guthrie, died Oct. 22, 2000, in Dallas.
Dorothy M. Hewitt was born May 3, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Frances Hewitt, in Madelia, Minn. She married
Leonard Morris on March 20, 1938, in Madelia. They farmed near Delano, Minn., Bemidji, and Guthrie. Leonard Morris died in 1971, and she moved to Oregon. She worked in child care.
She is survived by daughters, Ethel (Don) Mohler, Bemidji, and Karen (Mike) Sullivan, Falls City, Ore.; sons, Bill (Anita), Dallas, John (Barb), Everett, Wash., James (Vicki), Bemidji, and LeRoy (Diane), Guthrie; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Moe, Bemidji.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services: Were held in Dallas (Bollman, Dallas).
Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday, Guthrie Township cemetery, Bemidji. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Alice Jernberg
WANNASKA, Minn. -- Alice A. Jernberg, 91, Wannaska, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in Portland, Ore.
Alice A. Edberg was born Jan. 21, 1909, the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Erickson) Edberg, in Roseau County, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Wannaska. She married
Conrad Jernberg on Aug. 26, 1939, in Roseau. They lived in Roseau until moving to International Falls, Minn. They moved to Portland, where she had lived for the past 30 years. Conrad Jernberg died Jan. 19, 1986.
She is survived by a son, James, Prineville, Ore.; a daughter, Bonnie Tunberg, Thief River Falls; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, May Spiering, Yuma, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Gerda, Emma, Mildred, Florence and Freda; and brothers, William, Walter, Gunder and George.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Riverside Lutheran Church, Wannaska.
Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Mickinock cemetery, Wannaska.
Evelyn Anderson
GRYGLA, Minn. -- Evelyn N. Anderson, 85, Grygla, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Evelyn Margaret Mattison was born Aug. 16, 1915, the daughter of Edward and Hannah (Muren) Mattison. She worked as a house-keeper in Thief River Falls. She then moved to Minneapolis to be a nanny and housekeeper. She returned to help on the farm. She married
Luther Anderson on Jan. 5, 1947, in Grygla. From 1968 to 1977, she worked at Arctic Cat. Luther Anderson died July 5, 1984.
She is survived by her children, Georgia Hall, Woodbury, Minn., and Gary (Mari Lou) and Lyle (Joni), both of Grygla; six grandchildren; and sisters, Geordis (Palmer) Holte, Grygla, and Adeline Legg, Manitou Springs, Colo.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Bratteli.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Petri Lutheran cemetery, Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn.
Mabel Wickstrom
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Mabel Wickstrom, 94, Roseau, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in Walnut Manor Care Center, Anaheim, Calif.
Mabel Josephine Brandvold was born July 25, 1906, the daughter of Olava and Berent Brandvold, in Greenbush, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Louis Wickstrom. They owned the Encore Cafe in Roseau, Minn. In 1970, they moved to Fullerton, Calif.
She is survived by children, Nancy (Bryson) Denis, Fountain Valley, Calif., Curtis (Jo), Fullerton, and Duane (Eileen) Anaheim; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Lowell and Clayton; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Visitation: One hour before services.
Burial: Spruce cemetery.
Joseph Vonasek
ANGUS, Minn. -- Joseph Vonasek, 80, Angus, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Joseph Vonasek was born Aug. 8, 1920, the son of Frank and Rose (Kluzak) Vonasek, in Northland Township, Polk County, Minn. He graduated from Crookston Agriculture College in 1938. He worked for Kuzel Meat Processing Co. He married
Marie Pahlen on June 30, 1942, in Euclid, Minn. They farmed in the Tabor, Minn., area until retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, East Grand Forks; a daughter, Donna (Dean) Burton, East Grand Forks; sons, Ron (Genny), East Grand Forks, and Dennis (Denise), Burnsville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Kuzel, East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by a son, David; brothers, Emil, Albert, Frank, Jim and Carl; and a sister, Mayme Arnold.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Tabor.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Holy Trinity Catholic cemetery, Tabor.
Gaylon Rysavy
OSLO, Minn. -- Gaylon A. "Spanky" Rysavy, 44, Oslo, formerly of Michigan, N.D., died of cancer Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, in Lakota (N.D.) Good Samaritan Center.
Gaylon A. Rysavy was born Aug. 11, 1956, the son of Clarence and Mary Ann (Maresh) Rysavy, in McVille, N.D. He grew up and graduated from high school in Michigan, in 1974. He worked for Michigan Implement. In 1978, he married
Karen Anderson in Michigan. He moved to Colorado, where he was a mechanic and carpenter. He then moved to Fargo, where he worked for Kirschmann Finish Carpentry. He moved to Alaska in 1984. He was a commercial fisherman for 10 years. He moved to Oslo in 1997. He then returned to Michigan.
He is survived by his parents; brothers, Franklin (Lauri) and Michael (Coral), both of Michigan; and a grandmother, Mary Maresh, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Frank and Emma Rysavy and Frank Maresh.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church, Michigan.
Visitation: After 1 p.m. Tuesday, with an 8 p.m. vigil service, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Michigan cemetery.
