Manfred Holm
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Manfred Holm, 81, Roseau, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000.
Manfred Holm was born Oct. 10, 1918, the son of Emanuel and Katrina (Sjodin) Holm, in Roseau, where he graduated from high school in 1939. He moved to Milwaukee, where he worked in a Millwright Plant and attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He married
Barbara Van de Velden on Dec. 6, 1941, in Milwaukee. He took over the family farm in Jadis Township, Roseau County. In 1951 he started the Roseau Fix-It-Shop, which he owned and operated until selling it in 1970. He was a charter member of the Roseau Flying Club. Barbara Holm died in 1999.
He is survived by children, Michael (Cheryl), Charlotte, N.C., and Nancy (Denny) Andol, Glenn and Lee Ann (Gordy) Haugen, all of Roseau; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lennea Wickstrom, Roseau.
Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with an 8 p.m. devotional service, in the church.
Burial: Hope cemetery, Roseau (Helgeson, Roseau).
Helen Hagen
ROSEAU, Minn. -- Helen Hagen, 77, Roseau, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in Roseau Area Hospital.
Helen Mae Albin was born May 1, 1923, the daughter of Victor and Alida (Syverson) Albin, in Stafford Township, Roseau County. She graduated from high school in Roseau. She married
Melvin Hagen on July 11, 1943, in Roseau. They lived and farmed in Stafford Township. She worked as a bookkeeper for Builders Supply for more then 20 years. Melvin Hagen died in March 2000.
She is survived by her children, Paul (Eileen), Yorkville, Ill., Marion (Jerry) Solom, Wannaska, Minn., Michael (Karen) and Tom, both of Roseau, Donald (Connie), Plummer, Minn., and Janet (Greg) Johnson, Lakeville, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beatrice (Evan) Grahn, Bradenton, Fla., Ardys (Wally) Erickson, Little Falls, Minn., and Gerda (Allon) Anderson, Yuma, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Milford and John; and sisters, Bessie and Amanda.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church, Roseau.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6: 30 p.m. devotional service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Roseau.
Burial: Bethel-Stafford cemetery.
Greg Maloney
KENNEDY, Minn. -- Greg J. Maloney, 45, Kennedy, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Hospital, Hallock, Minn.
Gregory Joseph Maloney was born March 15, 1955, the son of Eugene and Ruby (Lundell) Maloney, in Grand Forks. He grew up and graduated from high school in Kennedy in 1973. He married
Catherine Klegstad on Oct. 23, 1976, in Hallock. He lived his entire life in Kennedy. He began working for his father at Farmers Oil Co. in 1973.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael; his parents, Kennedy; a sister, Maureen Fletcher, Phoenix; and brothers, Tim (Mary Lu), Virginia Beach, Va., and Dan (Cynthia), Hallock.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Evangelical Mission Covenant Church, Kennedy.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: Jupiter cemetery, Kennedy (Hughes, Hallock).
Arnold Mattson
KENNEDY, Minn. -- Arnold Mattson, 89, Kennedy, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Arnold Mattson was born July 27, 1911, the son of Martin and Charlotta (Nyberg) Mattson, in Svea Township, Kittson County, Minn. He attended school near Kennedy. He worked for Ziegler Motors in Kennedy until June 1941. He served in the U.S. Army From June 1941 to March 1945. He returned home and began farming with his father. He also worked as a mechanic at Olson Motors in Kennedy. He married
Marion Anderson on Nov. 29, 1945, in Halma, Minn. They lived in Kennedy, where he drove school bus for the Kennedy School District. He retired in 1975 but worked part time on area farms.
He is survived by his wife.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: Kennedy cemetery (Hughes, Hallock, Minn.).
Flora Easter
ST. VINCENT, Minn. -- Flora Easter, 81, St. Vincent, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock, Minn.
Flora Turner was born April 2, 1919, the daughter of John and Anne (Kothe) Turner, in St. Vincent, where she attended school. She married
Herbert Easter on April 23, 1937, in Cavalier, N.D. They lived in St. Vincent. She had cooked at the St. Vincent School and also worked at the Pembina Locker Plant and Ronnie's Drive-in, both of Pembina, N.D. She retired from Motor Coach Industries in 1980.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Joanne), Shoreview, Minn.; daughters, Judy (Bill) Wightman, Emerson, Man., Cheryl (Dale) Hanson, St. Vincent, Donna (Bob) Matthews, St. Cloud, and Kathy (Gary) Wilkie, Pembina; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond, Springer, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jackie; and brothers, Lester, Gordon and Dale.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Evangelical Free Church, Pembina.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, all in the church.
Burial: St. Vincent cemetery (Hughes, Hallock).
Frank Waslaski Jr.
FISHER, Minn. -- Frank E. Waslaski Jr., 42, Fisher, died of cancer Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at home.
Frank Edward Waslaski was born Sept. 29, 1958, the son of Frank and Evelyn (McGauvran) Waslaski, in Glasgow, Mont. In 1961, he moved with his family to Billings, Mont., where he attended school. He moved to Edinburg, N.D., where he graduated from high school. He attended UND. He lived in Crookston and for the past two years lived in Fisher. He operated heavy equipment for road construction.
He is survived by his mother, Olga, N.D.; brothers, Richard, Crookston, and Robert (Bonnie), New Ulm, Minn.; sisters, Elizabeth (Kyle) Grove, Crookston and Mary (Allan) Krueger, De Pere, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon, N.D. (Brooks, Langdon).
Wilmer Rustad
ERSKINE, Minn. -- Wilmer Rustad, 86, Erskine, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine.
Wilmer Truman Rustad was born April 18, 1914, the son of Thor and Anna (Hauge) Rustad, in Erskine, where he attended school. In 1932, he moved with his family to Milton-Freewater, Ore. He picked fruit in Oregon and California and worked construction for Hanford Works in southern Washington. During World War II, he worked at the glider factory in St. Paul. He worked at a sawmill in Arizona and later as a lumber grader in Prineville, Ore. and at Harris Pine in Pendleton, Ore. He married
Alice Olson Amundson on Feb. 15, 1976, in Spokane, Wash. They lived in Milton-Freewater until returning to Erskine in 1978. He worked for the state of Minnesota as a caretaker of a U.S. Highway 2 rest stop.
He is survived by his wife; stepsons, Dennis (Mary) Amundson, Circle Pines, Minn., and Kenney (Diane) Amundson, McIntosh, Minn.; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Ruth), Spokane; sisters, Gladys (Robert) Shumway, Enumclaw, Wash., Ellen Curl and Dagmar "Dot" Jorgenson, Milton-Freewater.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbur, Neville, "Little" George, George Helge and Roy; and sisters, Agnes Opheim, Myrtle Glass, Thelma Dailey and Marie Smith.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Saron Lutheran Church, Erskine.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery (Carlin-Hoialmen, Erskine).
