Thomas Michael Kasowski, 59, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009.

Thomas was born October 31, 1949 in Breckenridge Minn. and spent the first years of his life in Wahpeton, N.D.
He has resided in California since 1956 and graduated from Reseda High School in 1967.
Employed by the City of Los Angeles in 1974, Tom loved his job as Supply Services Manager for the Department of General Services.
Married to Laurie Burns in 1971, Tom and Laurie spent over 36 years together, enjoying photography, traveling and showing their Borzoi dogs.
Tom was a life member of the Borzoi Club of America and member of the Valley Hills Obedience Club, Midwest Borzoi club and Borzoi Club of California. Tom served as President of the Borzoi Club of California for many years.
An avid photographer, Tom’s photos grace the collections of Borzoi owners worldwide.
Predeceased by his father Sylvester "Mike" Kasowski and mother Rosella Rieke Kasowski, Tom is survived by his wife, Laurie Burns Kasowski, sisters Shari Clark, Merry Kuykendall and brother Kevin Kasowski. Nephews Michael Johnson, Ret. Chief Warrant Officer III, US Army, Brett Johnson Lt. Medford Oregon Police Department, Casey Johnson, Brian Clark, Colin Kasowski and Logan Kasowski. Nieces Kristy Johnson Grieve, Aubrey Clark and Sarabeth Johnson.

Shannon Arndt, 32
Shannon Arndt, 32, Breckenridge, Minn., died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Valley Christian Church, Breckenridge, with the Rev. Dean Bjorlin officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m at Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Burial will be at Riverside cemetery in Breckenridge.
Shannon was born Dec. 14, 1976, in Garrison, N.D., the daughter of Tom and Bette Wallace. As a young child she moved with her family to Wahpeton, N.D., Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Minot, N.D. They settled in Kent, Minn., when Shannon was in the sixth grade. She was confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Kent and attended Breckenridge schools, graduating in 1995. Shannon worked as a certified nursing assistant while she was in high school, and always had dreams of a career in the medical field. She graduated from North Dakota State College of Science with a degree in the mental health program, and then furthered her education there by also completing the licensed practical nursing program and becoming a nurse.
On Oct. 3, 2003, Shannon was united in marriage to Douglas Dale Arndt in Wahpeton. They made their home in Breckenridge. Shannon worked as a nurse at St. Catherine’s Living Center in Wahpeton and was currently working at the Leach Home in Wahpeton.
Shannon was an intelligent, compassionate and loving person who loved being a nurse. She also loved to read and was very musical, playing piano, trombone, viola and singing. She always enjoyed spending time with family and especially reminiscing with her sisters.
Shannon is survived by: her husband, Douglas Arndt, Breckenridge; her mother and step-father, Bette “Lolly” and Robert J. Voller, Dwight, N.D.; her father, Tom Wallace, Wolverton, Minn.; her three sisters, Heather (Brian) Bernotas, West Fargo, Amanda Wallace, Dwight, and Isabelle Wallace, Wolverton; her brother, Eli Wallace, Wolverton; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marlene and Dale Arndt, Breckenridge; her sister-in-law, Sheila (Pat) Satterwhite, Cottage Grove, Wisc.; her maternal grandmother, Ruth Mehlhoff, Flasher, N.D.; three step-sisters, Holly (Randy) Braun, Rosholt, S.D., Kristy Voller, Sisseton, S.D., and Robin (Steve) Wetmur, Minot; her nieces, Johnica Bernotas and Charity Wetmur; her nephews, Dylan Bernotas, Nicholas Satterwhite, Riley Satterwhite, Joshua Satterwhite; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded by: her paternal grandmother; her grandfathers; two uncles; and her godmother, Gloria Friese, who passed away five hours after Shannon.

Russell L. Smith, 82, Fergus Falls, Minn., died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls, with the Rev. Curtis Deterding.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls. Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 will give military rights.

Lori Roberts, 49, Doran, Minn., died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at her residence in Doran. Arrangements are pending with Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn.
Lynn M. Brandenburger, 80, New Effington, SD
Lynn M. Brandenburger, 80, New Effington, SD, died Monday, Dec., at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 28, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Dennis Deis, O.M.I, officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Effington. Visitation will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at St. John’s in Rosholt.
Burial will be in the St. Nicholas cemetery, rural Rosholt.
Military honors will be provided by the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington. Pallbearers will be Lynn’s sons.
Lynn was born Dec. 15, 1929, at Wheaton, Minn., to Mathias and Josephine (Prost) Brandenburger.
After attending school at the St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, he farmed with his father.
On Oct. 8, 1953, Lynn married
Valeria Bernard at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Hankinson. From May 13, 1954, to September 13, 1955, Lynn served in the U.S. Army earning the National Defense Service Medal.
After returning home, he farmed and owned a road construction company. He also was a commercial fisherman in the winter for 21 years.
In 1988 Lynn retired from farming, but continued to do some construction work with his payloader. He built a new house with his own small lake south of New Effington in 1999. Valeria passed away in 2005.
Lynn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for nearly 50 years. He was also a member of the Read-Veflin American Legion in New Effington and a past member of the New Effington City Council.
Lynn was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed all types of gardening and playing cards. He was a photographer in the Army and continued to enjoy it the rest of his life. Lynn’s greatest passion was for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his ten children, Neil (Martha) Brandenburger of New Effington, Cynthia (Richard) Novotny of Wyndmere, ND, Timothy (Connie) Brandenburger of New Effington, Constance (Sidney) Sjoquist of Wahpeton, ND, Richard (JoLynn) Brandenburger of Great Bend, ND, Nathan (Karla) Brandenburger of Birmingham, AL, Dale (Manuela) Brandenburger of Agar, SD, Lynn, Jr., (Martina) Brandenburger, of Fargo, ND, Mathew (Kasey) Brandenburger of Rosholt, and Thomas (Janice) Brandenburger of Madison, SD; 33 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Valeria; and brother, Raymond.

Irene Loraine Boeckel, 80, Battle Lake, Minn., died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls, Minn.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28 at the Battle Lake First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27 at the church and Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
