Rueben Christofferson
Rueben Christofferson, 87, Fergus Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at Pioneer Retirement Community of Fergus Falls.
He was born July 28, 1917, in Thief River Falls, to Carl and Anna (Skomedahl) Christofferson. He grew up in Thief River Falls where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935.
On Oct. 4, 1940, he married
Helene Storhaug in Thief River Falls.
In 1943, he entered the United States Army Air Corps.
He was stationed at Kimbolton Field in England as a tail gunner in a B-17.
He flew 36 missions over Germany and received a Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After his discharge, he worked in car sales and grocery sales for Nash Finch Company. In 1957, he moved to Fergus Falls, where he worked as a Petroleum Inspector for the State of Minnesota, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He and his wife shared ownership of a hunting cabin near Itasca Park for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Knutson and her husband, Art of Hudson, Wisconsin; sister, Eleanor Bradley and husband, Peter of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Eleanor Christofferson of Thief River Falls; nephew, Gary Christofferson of St. Paul; and close friend of ten years, Lucille Harry of Fergus Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Anna; wife, Helene; brother, Alvin; and two sisters, Mabel and Florence.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Sylvia Tonsager
Sylvia Tonsager, 74, Perham, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at St. Mary's Regional Health Center, Detroit Lakes.
She was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Doran, Minn., to Fred and Ruth (Wahl) Arneson. She married
Hilmer Tonsager April 14, 1951, in Milbank, S.D. She loved to cook, bake and garden. Listening to old country music -- Johnny Cash and Hank Williams -- along with playing guitar and singing were also things she enjoyed doing.
She took special delight in watching the chickadees and bluebirds and spending time with her dogs and cats.
She is survived by her husband, Hilmer, currently of Frazee; two sons, Thomas (Cindy), of Goodhue, Minn., and Timothy (Rebecca) of Vallejo, Calif.; two daughters, Teresa (Mark) Klegin of Vergas, Minn., and Tonia Tonsager, of Perham; seven grandchildren: Scott, Tina, Terry (Abby) and Christopher Tonsager and Erin, Danny and Matt Klegin; four step-grandchildren: Karla Cummings, Mike Altman, Mathew and Kaiyla Duyanos; two step-great-grandchildren, Bryton and Emilie Cummings; and three sisters: Mrs. Maxine Herness, of Dalton, Betty Ann (James) Spanswick of Ottertail, and Muriel (Larry) Tonsager of Wilsonville, Ore., as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lillian Burhans; and two brothers, Fred, Jr. "Fritz" and Orville "Orrie."
Visitation: At the funeral home Monday, Dec. 20, from4 to 8 p.m.

Amy Toso
Amy Valeria Toso, 97, formerly of rural Rothsay, died, Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Meadows Township, Wilkin County, Minn., to Ole M. and Netta (Nelson) Toso.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Hamar Lutheran Church, Rothsay, by the Reverend Langland.
In 1914, the family moved to Trondhjem Township.
She resided on the family farm until 2003, when she became a resident of the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center.
She was a member of the Hamar Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Church Group, WELCA and Circles. She loved to garden, crochet, and tatting.
She is survived by her sister, Muriel Toso of Barnesville; two nieces, Eileen (Paul) Smiley of Shoreview, Nita (Charles) Neuleib of Rothsay; two nephews, Jerome (Joy) Toso of Rothsay, and D. Norman (Margaret) Toso of Rapid City, S.D. Also surviving are numerous grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Minnie Toso and Julia Toso; and three brothers: Arthur, Winfield and Harry; two sisters-in-law, Alvina and Inga Toso; and one nephew, Wallace Toso.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. public prayer service at the funeral home and will resume at the church one hour prior to the service

Rune Thom
Rune Ingver Thom, 53, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, in Montrose, Colo.
He was born April 22, 1951, to Floyd and Thyra Thom.
He was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Friberg Township.
He graduated from Fergus Falls Sr. High School in 1969.
He continued his education at the Fergus Falls Junior College.
In 1975 he entered the United States Air Force, serving in Japan, Sicily and Turkey during his 12-year enlistment.
In January 1980 he married
Tanya in Denver, Colo.
Their daughter, Aber, was born in 1981.
He then began working in he civil service in the field of electronics in Virginia, Kansas, Colorado and most recently at Western Area Power Administration doing electronic equipment craftsmen work in Vernal, Utah.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working with electronics, hunting, fishing and especially living in the mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Tanya of Vernal, Utah; daughter, Amber of Salt Lake City, Utah; mother, Thyra; brothers, Rick (Roxane) and Tim (Linda), all of Fergus Falls, Perry (Heidi) of Golden Valley, John (Angie) of Marion, Iowa; four nieces; two nephews; and a host of family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; infant brother, Jerry; father, Floyd; and several aunts and uncles.
Local memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Friberg, Fergus Falls.
Gregory Kalvik
Gregory Allen Kalvik, 57, died unexpectedly at his home in Moorhead. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls.
The visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls.
Helen Stender
Helen Stender, 64, Pelican Rapids, died Dec. 22, 2004, at the Barnesville Good Samaritan Center of Barnesville. Arrangements pending with Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids.
Alice Nord
Alice (Sanden) Nord died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in Mesa, Ariz., after a long struggle with cancer.
She was born Aug. 26, 1926, and raised in the Pelican Rapids area. On Dec. 25, 1943, she married
Gordon Nord from Rothsay. She is survived by her loving husband, Gordon; three children: Audrey (Lee) Walters of Brooklyn Park; Gloria (Joe) Simonson of Seattle, Wash.; Gary Nord of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is deeply missed by all her family and friends.
David Fjoslien
David Owen Fjoslien, 68, Brandon, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004.
He was born July 23, 1936, to Olof and Luella (Johnson) Fjoslien, near Elbow Lake. The family moved to a farm south of Brandon. He attended school in Brandon and graduated from Brandon High School in 1954. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota St. Paul Ag. campus.
On Nov. 9, 1953, he entered the Army National Guard and served in the Guard for 43 years, retiring in 1996.
He married
Joan Erdahl at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church near Donnelly, Minn., Dec. 26, 1965. They have a grain and Angus beef farm near Brandon. He operated Fjoslien Aerial Spraying.
From January 1973 to 1986, he was a Minnesota State Representative. During his years as State Representative, he was instrumental in organizing the Minnesota State Veterans' cemetery near Camp Ripley.
He worked to defeat a bill to have an experimental city in the Brandon-Millerville area. Locally, he helped save the Knute Nelson Home, which is known as the Douglas County Historical Society in Alexandria.
He participated in many community activities.
He was commander of the Brandon American Legion.
Two of his favorite projects were the monuments in the park honoring Brandon servicemen who never returned from war, and displaying flags on the streets of Brandon on ceremonial days such as the 4th of July.
Other organizations to which he belonged were the Midwest Air Society, board member of Selective TV, Brandon Lions Club, Alexandria Shriners, Sons of Norway, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon.
He arranged for the Collings Foundation to bring the 817 and B24 aircraft to Alexandria for education and enjoyment.
His hobbies centered around air activities such as being a paratrooper, hot-air ballooning and flying fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
He will be remembered for his outgoing personality and love of his country.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; and sister, Lucille Fjoslien of San Francisco, Calif.
