Ethel Mae Bailey, 86, of Crosby, formerly of McGregor, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in the Cuyuna Regional Care Center, Crosby.

LAURA MABEL HALLIDAY
Laura Mabel Halliday, 84, of Nashwauk died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001.
Survivors include daughters Arleen Halliday and Mabel (Jerome) Gangl; a son, Robert (Shirley) Halliday; a brother, Marvin King; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Nashwauk United Methodist Church. Interment in Nashwauk cemetery, Nashwauk.
HELEN SOFIA NELSON
Helen S. Nelson, age 91, of Cloquet, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Community Memorial Hospital-Convalescent Care Section, Cloquet. She was born March 1, 1910, in Thomson Township (Esko) to Alfred and Tillie (Olson) Korby. She was united in marriage to Ervin H. Nelson on May 29, 1930, in Cloquet and was a lifelong area resident. Helen was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and cared for the church plants for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and painting. She worked for the Diamond Match Co. for 20 years in her younger years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Bob, Emil, Raymond, Henry and Ernie Korby; and sister Julia Seppala.
She is survived by sons Dale (Margaret) of Iron and Rodney (LaVerne) of Graham, Wash.; sisters Martha Erkkila of Carlton, Florence Sarazin of Esko and Mavis (Bob) Kruger of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet with the Rev. Anne Andert officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kirby Nelson, Craig Nelson, Tim Nelson, Curtis Nelson, Chris Nelson, Heather Parenteau, Jodi Turco and Tom Nelson. Interment services will be held in Maple Grove cemetery in Cloquet. Luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall at Zion Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
FRED HENDRICKSON
Fred Hendrickson, 82, of Parkville died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in Buchanan Nursing Home in Chisholm.
He was born June 29, 1919, to William and Phena (Emason) Hendrickson, in a mining location near Biwabik. In the early 1920s the family moved to Wuori Township where he attended school. He later attended Virginia High School. He worked various jobs including being a seaman on the Great Lakes.
On March 17, 1942, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Jokinen in Duluth. He was drafted into the Army 90th Infantry Division. He made the initial Normandy landing on June 6, 1942, at Utah Beach. As a sergeant in a heavy weapons company, he was wounded in the Normandy campaign and awarded the Purple Heart. The couple made their home in Virginia and moved to Parkville in 1954. He had also worked in the iron mines, being a mechanic, and running two service stations. He owned a gravel and lumber business. He served as a licensed Minnesota assessor for more than 30 years in the city of Mountain Iron, Nichols, Sandy and Wuori townships. He retired from Wuori Township in June 2001.
In his later years he enjoyed running his sawmill, keeping up with current events, and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of Virginia Senior Citizens Club, Biwabik Masonic Lodge and the Disabled American Veterans. He had been a former member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Missabe Lodge 222 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1117, both of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, on Feb. 7, 1984; three sisters; a brother; and his parents.
Survivors include sons David (Claudia) Hendrickson and Daniel Hendrickson; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion and friend, Olga Stovern.
Visitation: 3 until the 4 p.m. service Monday in Range Funeral Home, Virginia, the Rev. Raymond Hendrickson officiating. Burial in Greenwood cemetery, Virginia.

Gerald M. Brown, 67, of McGregor died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in his home.

Emil J. Butler, 80, of Aitkin, formerly of West Concord, Minn., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, in his residence.
SERVICES:A service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Margaret J. Williams-Lamb
Margaret J. Williams-Lamb, 77, of Culver passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 29, 1924, to Ivor H. Sr. and Marie L. (Berg) Nelson in Superior. Margaret was involved in community education in AlBrook. She was also involved at Faith Lutheran Church in Bible study, the cribbage club and chaired the W.E.L.C.A. committee.
She was a teacher's aide for Alborn Elementary School and retired as a secretary from Alborn Elementary School.
She was a member of the Culver's Women's Club, Culver's quilters, RSVP birthday club and AARP. Margaret enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a big Twins and Vikings fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and her son, Richard Sr.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Leonard "Bud" Lamb Jr; children Russell T. (Jackie) of Iowa, Diane of St. Paul, Roger Sr. (Linda) of Saginaw, Donna (George Jr.) Brewer of Saginaw, Donald J. (Carol) of Culver, Patti (Tom) Gerard of Cloquet, Gary Sr. (Lynn) of Syracuse, N.Y., Kay (Mike) Anderson of Cloquet, Peggy (Larry) Broughton of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Walter Jr. (Lori) of Culver, Lori (Chuck Jr.) Pattee of South Range and Larry (Tammy) of Denver; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy of Saginaw; special son, Charles (June) Lembke of Cloquet; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell (Alice) Nelson of Wimbelton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank J. Anzelc
Frank J. Anzelc, 84, of Biwabik died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, in Duluth.
He was born Dec. 22, 1916, in Belgrade Location, Minn., to Matt and Angeline (Zallar) Anzelc. He attended school in Gilbert and McKinley, and later served our country in the Army during World War II. He married
Sarah Gillespie on July 16, 1949, in Grand Forks, N.D. He began working in the Mary Ellen Mine and later transferred to Reserve Mining Co., where he worked as a shovel operator until his retirement in 1979.
He was a member of St. John's Church and the Knights of Columbus, Biwabik Senior Citizens, Biwabik American Legion Post and KSKJ Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah; a son, Patrick Anzelc of Minneapolis; a daughter, Mary (Allen) Shostedt of Duluth; brothers John and Matt, both of Biwabik; a sister, Rosalie Anzelc of Biwabik; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Catholic Church, Biwabik, Father Frank Perkovich as celebrant. Burial in Lakeside cemetery, Biwabik, with military honors accorded by the Aurora American Legion Post.
Stanton H. South
Stanton H. South, 61, of Cohasset, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer.
Stan was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Cass Lake, Minn., to Lee and Vallerie (Hasbrouck) South. He grew up in Cass Lake and graduated from Cass Lake High School. Stan's first love was cooking and he started this love affair at Hills Cafe in Cass Lake. He moved to Grand Rapids in the 1960s and worked several years at Mickey's Cafe and later had his own restaurant. In 1970, Stan was united in marriage to Kathleen O'Brien, and in 1971, the couple made their home in Cohasset. His last working years were at Minnesota Power, until his retirement in 1995. Another love was singing. He sang a few years with the Showboat, directed a youth choir, sang in the church choir, and sang at many weddings and funerals.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Jean.
Stan was dearly loved and will be missed by his wife of 31 years, Kathleen; his sons, Chip (Sandra) of Cohasset, Lee (Stacy) of Superior, Lynn (Andra) of Cohasset, Jay (Lisa) of Grand Forks, N.D., Nick of Cohasset, and Billy, stationed in Korea; a grandson, Victor Stanton South of Cohasset; sisters Shirley (Frank) Mustar and Bonnie (Paul) Swan, both of Cohasset; brothers Lloyd (Inge) of Fairfax, Va., Al of McAllen, Texas, and Rod (Kari) of Grand Rapids; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mildred Kangas, 89, of Hibbing and formerly of Buhl, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen (James) Jurkovich; a son, Roger (Carolyn) Kangas; four sisters; a daughter-in-law; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Friday in Anderson-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Hibbing, the Rev. Father Clem Gustin officiating. Interment at a later date in Lakeview cemetery, Buhl.

Faye B. Hardy, 84, of Hibbing died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in Leisure Hills of Hibbing.
She is survived by daughters Faye A. (Frank) Sherman and Nancy L. (Paul) Shain; two sisters; a brother; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Bill Hooper.

Barbara Amick of International Falls died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in Falls Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her daughter; two sons; a grandson; two great-granddaughters; and a brother.
