Vincent "Little Butch" Roy Martineau III
Vincent "Little Butch" Roy Martineau III, 31, of Sawyer died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 18, 1970, in Duluth, to Vincent "Butch" and Toni Martineau. He attended Carlton schools and worked for Fond du Lac Construction. Vincent married
Connie Middleton on Dec. 20, 1999, at Fond du Lac Tribal Center.
He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Vincent's personality, compassion and sense of humor will be sadly missed by friends, family and the Fond du Lac community.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vincent Roy Martineau I; and uncles Daniel and Herbie.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Connie; daughters Sabrina and Ashley; his parents, Vincent "Butch" Martineau of Sawyer and Toni Liebsch of Wrenshall; his grandmother, Evelyn Olson of Cloquet; his grandfather, Joe Wilson of Denver; sisters Millie and Kayla White of Denver, Rachel Martineau of Cloquet and Jennifer Martineau of Cass Lake; his stepbrother, Chad Bakken of Cloquet; and many aunties, uncles, nephews and cousins.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and continues until the 10:30 a.m. traditional service Friday in the Sawyer Center, Sawyer. Traditional service by Lee Staples. Pallbearers will be: David "Jack" Couture Jr., Todd Soukkala, Sean Soukkala, Chad Kettlehut, Jim Northrup III and Joey Enger. Honorary pallbearers: Keith Diver and Kelly Diver. Ignatz "Louie" Wojtysiak, 84, of Culver died unexpectedly at his home Monday, Aug. 13, 2001.

Frank T. Lehtinen
Frank T. Lehtinen, 70, of Lake Vermilion, Cook, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, John (Jingzhu) Lehtinen of Clear Lake, Minn.; daughters Sue (George) Rowley of Minnetonka, Diane (James) Lagios of Esko and Tammy (Mark) Ferris of Plymouth, Minn.; a brother, Jack (Carolyn) Lehtinen of Las Vegas; and eight grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends: 5-7 p.m. Sunday in Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, where the memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Morris Johnson officiating. Inurnment in Greenwood cemetery, Virginia.

Irene Mary Jorgensen, 79, of Askov died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Chris; sons Ralph (Peggy) Hammer of Askov, Russell Jorgensen of Askov, Ron (Laurie) Jorgensen of Askov, Robin (Laurie) of Sandstone and Jon (Tammy) Jorgensen of St. Paul; a daughter-in-law, Wandee Slater of Tacoma, Wash.; and other relatives.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Hansen's North Pine Funeral Home, Sandstone, and continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Thursday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bruno. Interment in Vilstad cemetery, Bruno.
Jean N. (Chiaravalle) Sacco
Jean N. (Chiaravalle) Sacco, 83, of Hibbing died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in her home.
She is survived by daughters Anita (Richard) Krollman and Brenda Sacco; sons Joe (Janis) and Tom (Sandra); a sister, Esther Williams; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services were held in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. Interment was in Maple Hill cemetery, Hibbing. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
Harold C. Scanlan
Harold C. Scanlan, 88, of Pengilly died Saturday, July 28, 2001, after a long illness, surrounded by his family in his home.
He was born in Long Prairie, Minn., on Oct. 6, 1912, to John and Iona (Fallbeck) Scanlan. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and had owned and operated Scanlan's Auto Body in Pengilly. He later worked as a welder for Butler Bros. Mining Co.
He was a member of St. Kevin's Catholic Church, Nashwauk Knights of Columbus Council 5283 and St. Kevin's Men's Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alberta Weiss; and a brother, Walter Scanlan.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mollie of Pengilly; a son, John (Diane) Scanlan of Round Rock, Texas; daughters Rosemary (Paul) Jernigan of Lakewood, Colo., Margaret Metzer of Pengilly and Carol (Mark Hawkinson) Anderson of Grand Rapids; sisters Isadore Bentfield of Sauk Centre, Minn., Alice Tamble of Kent, Wash., and Marcella Steiger of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren Jason, Brian, Doug, Gregory, Rachael, Jaime, Jessica, Matthew and Stephanie; and a great-grandson, Jacob.

Elizabeth Berglund
Elizabeth Berglund, 88, of Moose Lake died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
She was born July 13, 1913, in Partridge Township to Olof Vilhelm and Augusta B. (Olofsson) Persson. Elizabeth taught at the Park and Pleasant Hill Country Schools, east of Bruno. On Oct. 17, 1936, Elizabeth married
Adrian Berglund in Partridge Township. She returned to her teaching career in 1956. After retiring from teaching, Elizabeth worked at Gift Design in Askov.
Elizabeth enjoyed volunteering at the Sandstone Nursing Home and the Askov Historical Society. She was very active in the church and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, quilting, working on crossword puzzles and going for walks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian; a son, Allen Berglund; a sister, Ingrid Watrin; brothers Harry Pearson and Kenneth Pearson; and her parents, Olof and Augusta Persson.
She will be lovingly remembered by sons Edward (Bonnie K.) Berglund and Stanley (Bonnie L.) Berglund; a daughter, Carol (Floyd) Headman; a daughter-in-law, Linda Berglund; a sister-in-law, Dawn Pearson; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Harry "Teddy" Youngbauer
Harry "Teddy" Youngbauer, 69, of Cloquet passed away unexpectedly at Cloquet Hospital on Monday, July 30, 2001.
He was born Nov. 28, 1931, to Harry and Frances (Grzybowski) Youngbauer in Cloquet. He attended and was a charter member of Pinewood Learning Center since January 1964.
Teddy was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Harriet (Floyd) Kruger of Cloquet; a brother, Gary of Brainerd; a niece, Nancy Fox; nephews David, Walter, Keith, Kenneth and Kyle; and his special care provider, Janet Oachs.

Helen Irene Maki
Helen Irene Maki, 76, of Brookston died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in her home.
She was born April 2, 1925, to Edward Nelson and Aina Palmi. Helen was raised in Brookston by her grandparents, John and Saima Palmi. She married
Edie Maki on August 23, 1941. Helen owned and operated Maki Home Inc., a home for mentally retarded adults, for more than 30 years. She retired in 1996.
Helen was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookston. She was a member of the Cloquet VFW Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed doing stain glass and ceramics, knitting, crocheting and traveling.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Edie, on December 13, 1980; and sons Gerald and Kenneth.
She is survived by her children, Lola (Arnie) Pirsig of Longville, Archie Maki of Brookston and Cindy (Gary Karkiainen) Fortune of Floodwood; daughter-in-law Liz; a brother, Eino (Betty) Seppala of Wisconsin; sisters Nancy (Larry) Petrie and Dorothy Spindler, both of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Deb Hyry of Brookston.

Ruth DeFoe Peterson
Ruth DeFoe Peterson, 76, of Cloquet passed away Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Nopeming Nursing Home.
She was born in Cloquet on Dec. 8, 1924, to Frank and Katie (Connor) DeFoe. Ruth enjoyed working with ceramics, doing embroidery and crocheting rugs. She was a member of the Fond du Lac tribe of the Lake Superior Band of Chippewa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold "Slim"; brothers Leonard, Mead, Tony, Joe and Pete DeFoe; and a sister, Angeline Barney.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Violet Reynolds-Wyner; grandchildren Vicki, Sonny and Jeff Reynolds; great-grandchildren Erin, Amanda, River and Austin Reynolds; a brother, Edward DeFoe; a sister-in-law, Margaret DuFault; and several nieces and nephews.
