Margaret H. "Kitty" Shea
Margaret H. "Kitty" Shea, 69, of Pengilly died Tuesday, July 10, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, William; daughters Karen Majkich and Becky (Bob) Hanson; a son, Paul Shea; four brothers; two sisters; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Nashwauk. Burial in Nashwauk cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
Patricia Louise "Patty" Schroeder
Patricia Louise "Patty" Schroeder, died Friday, June 29, 2001, in Tucson, Ariz., after a lengthy illness with diabetes.
Patty was born July 1, 1939, in Cloquet to Harold and Marie Tario. She graduated as class valedictorian from Cloquet High School in 1957. She married
David J. Schroeder of Duluth on Sept. 12, 1959.
The love of Patty's life was spending time with her grandchildren and making and sharing memories with her family. Patty would never end a telephone call to a family member without saying, "I love you." She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Tario of Cloquet.
She is survived by her husband, David of Tucson; a daughter, Christa Schroeder of Rio Rico, Ariz.; a son, David (Nancy) Schroeder of Tucson; her mother, Marie Tario of Carlton; sisters Bonnie (Harley) Johnson of North Oaks; Ann Tario of New Brighton and Judy (Harvey) Korby of Wrenshall; brothers James (Nancy) Tario and Jack (Sheila) Tario of Cloquet; grandchildren Angela, Dana, David and Patrick; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held July 5, 2001, in Tucson. Arrangements by Desert Rose Cremation & Burial of Tucson.
Joseph C. Marinaro
Joseph C. Marinaro, 76, of Nashwauk died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids.
He was born in Nashwauk on July 16, 1924, to Anthony and Elvira (Compenaro) Marinaro. He was an Army veteran of World War II and had worked as a service truck driver for M.A. Hanna Mining Co.
He was a member of the Nashwauk Fire Department, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 307, Hibbing Elks Club and managed the Nashwauk G.I. Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, in 1994; his parents; and a brother, Eugene Marinaro.
He is survived by daughters JoAnn Ghant of Minneapolis, Mary Abellera of Minnetonka, Minn., and Susan (Jeff) Hill of Hibbing; sons Joseph (Mary Roy) of Trout Lake, Minn., Peter of Minneapolis and Mark (Tracie) of Nashwauk; a brother, Frank Marinaro of Babbitt; grandchildren Nichole (Jason) Bosley, Matthew Marinaro, Joseph Abellera, Jennifer Marinaro and Anthony Marinaro; and six step-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial today in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Nashwauk, the Rev. Lloyd Mudrak as celebrant. Interment in Nashwauk cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Don Ward, Tom Marinaro, Tim Abellera, Chet Moellering, Matthew Marinaro and Pete Moran. Honorary pallbearer will be Joseph Abellera. June Marie Bailey, 77, of Aitkin died Monday, July 9, 2001, in Riverwood Healthcare Center, Aitkin.

Vernon G. Haagensen, 78, of McGregor died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in his home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Superior.

Walter C. "Buck" Bubany
Walter C. "Buck" Bubany, 84, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Bovey, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home, Grand Rapids.
Born March 20, 1917, in Hector, N.M., he lived most of his life in Bovey and was a 1936 graduate of Greenway High School. He received his associate degree in accounting from Itasca Community College and had been an accountant for the Oliver Mining Co. and U.S. Steel, retiring in 1972.
He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, Grand Rapids. Buck and Florence Hughes were married
July 1, 1939, in Bovey.
His parents; his wife, Florence, on Dec. 6, 2000; and brothers George and Emil preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Ronald (Rita) Bubany of Bloomington, Minn., and Edward Bubany of Blaine, Minn.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sisters Liz LaFond of Marble and Dolly Hodge of Baltimore.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. service Saturday in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine, the Rev. Peter Nord officiating. Interment in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.

Peter Thomas Grandish, 86, of Ozona, Fla., formerly of Herbster, died Monday, June 25, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Enid; a son, Richard Michael (Cheryl Ann); grandchildren Weber Thomas, Rob Warner, Adam Ross and Harrison Todd; and three sisters.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Herbster Church. Burial in Herbster cemetery immediately following the service. Frost Home for Funerals is assisting the family with arrangements.

Viola I. "Babe" Monson, 71, a longtime resident of Beaver Bay died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center.
She was born July 5, 1930, to Melvin and Irene Kellogg in Hayward, Wis. She grew up and attended school in Hayward. She married
Donald H. Monson in 1949 in Butte, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and a son, Donnie.
She is survived by her daughters Donna (Ron) Weavil of Jeffersonville, Ind., Darsie Nelson (Jim) of Little Marais, Debbie (Al) Nelson, Dawn Monson, Denise (Joe) Jamnick and Delsie Johnson, all of Silver Bay; a sister, Betty (Virgil) "Prunie" Scanlon; a brother, Lloyd "Buck" (Carol) Kellogg; grandchildren Sky, Jamie, Jeremy, Nicholas, Donnie, Alex, Cory, Katie, April, Kenny and Karlee; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred Simon Barney
Fred Simon Barney, 86, of Cloquet passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in his home.
He was born Jan. 4, 1915, to Frank and Mary (Ruttle) Barney in Cloquet. He was a member of the Fond du Lac tribe of the Lake Superior Band of Chippewa. Fred married
Angeline DeFoe July 18, 1940.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1979; sons Warren Barney, Frankie Barney and Fred (Skeezix) Barney; grandchildren Michael, Stephanie "Lola" and Carolyn; a great-grandson, John; brothers Adam, Jim and Antoine; and two sisters.
Fred is survived by his sons, Leslie (Bonnie) Barney, Robert (Shirley) Barney, Norman Barney and Edwin Thompson; daughters Loretta (Ferdinand) Martineau, Catherine (Donald) Follett, JoAnn Barney and Ruth Anne (Edmund) Two Stars; 42 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Margaret DuFault and Ruth Peterson; a brother-in-law Ed DeFoe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
