John Polenik, 76, of Chisholm, formerly of Hoyt Lakes died Friday, May 11, 2001.
Survivors include sisters Mary Krogerus and Kathern Polinik; sister-in-law, Margaret Polenik; several nieces, a nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Graveside service: 10 a.m. Monday in Chisholm cemetery. Arrangements by Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Chisholm.

Maryann Patricia Spicer
Maryann Patricia Spicer, 48, of Mounds View, Minn., died Thursday, May 10, 2001, surrounded by family in her home.
She was born Sept. 19, 1952, to Edward and Florence (Wadas) Rudzinski in Virginia. She grew up and attended school in Virginia. She graduated with distinction from Hibbing Technical College in 1990. She had been employed by Abbott Northwestern Hospital as a biomedical technician (saving lives). In her spare time, she was an avid gardener and loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward in 1971; a brother, Edward Jr. in 1974; and her mother, Florence in 2000.

Survivors include a son, Jacob (Mary Jo) Belanger of St. Paul; a sister, Josephine (Douglas) Anderson of San Antonio, Texas; significant other, Jim Hawkings of Eveleth; a niece, Nicole Thompson of Houston; a nephew, William Anderson of Mary Ester, Fla.; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday with a 7 p.m. prayer service in St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Blaine, Minn. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Virginia. Arrangements by Range Funeral Home, Virginia.

Charles M. Witte
Charles M. Witte, 85, of Cloquet passed away in Pharr, Texas, Feb. 24, 2001.
Charles was born in New England, N.D.,

Sept. 23, 1915, to Carl and Thelma (Archambeau) Witte. He grew up in Proctor, graduating in 1932, from Itasca Junior College in 1938 and University of Minnesota North Central School of Agriculture.

He and Ethel Stebner were married on Sept. 2, 1940. They had a top dairy farm north of Cloquet. Charles served on many co-op boards and committees. He was instrumental in developing the annual Co-op Rally. He worked as a brakeman for DM&IR; railroad, as a dairy farmer and retired as member service director of Carlton County Co-op Power in 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Witte.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; children Myrna Connet of Apple Valley, Minn., Gene (Melanie) Witte of Stillwater, Minn., Fred (Helen) Witte of Sturgeon Lake, Louise (Gerald) Gross of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., John (Tenley) Witte of Duluth and Jerry (Diana) Witte of Duluth, Mary Kay (Craig) Ferguson of Woodbury, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Evelyn (Helmer) Jacobson of Hermantown; and a niece, Connie (Skip) Jacobson-Sharpe.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial service Saturday in Peace United Church of Christ, 1015 E. 11th St., Duluth.

Richard "Dick" H. Williams Sr.
Richard "Dick" H. Williams Sr., 54, of Saginaw passed away Sunday, June 3, 2001, in St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born March 3, 1947, in Superior to Walter T. Sr. and Margaret (Nelson) Williams. Rick graduated from AlBrook High School in 1965. He married Dorothy Brewer on June 14, 1965. He worked at Conwed from 1965-1967 and then for UPS, up until his retirement in 1999, where he achieved the award for 27 years of safe driving.

Rick was a very proud member of the Local 346 Teamsters Union for 30 years. He was employed by AlBrook High School as a special education van driver. He served many years as a supervisor for the Industrial Township Board. He was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Rick enjoyed camping, traveling and deer hunting. He was especially devoted to his family. Rick was a caring husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Rick is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Carrie (Norman) Neuberg of Culver, Sherri (Randy) Chalberg of Cloquet, Richard Jr. (Katie) of Culver and Jacquelyn (friend Dan) Williams of Saginaw; grandchildren Wade, Lisa, Brittany, Ashley, Kole and Bethany; his mother, Margaret of Culver; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Edna Brewer; his brothers, Russell (Jackie) of Iowa, Roger (Linda) of Culver, Donald (Carol) of Culver, Gary (Lynn) of New York, Wally (Lori) of Culver and Larry (Tammie) of Colorado; his sisters, Diane (Mark) Pemble of Minneapolis, Donna (Tommy) Brewer of Saginaw, Patti (Tom) Gerald of Cloquet, Kay (Mike) Anderson of Esko, Peggy (Larry) Broughton of Michigan and Lori (Chuck) Pattee of Wisconsin; many nieces and nephews; and his companion dog, Chip.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Wefelmeyer-Handevidt Funeral Home, 1506 Washington Ave., Cloquet, (218) 879-6741. Visitation continues at 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge Avenue, Cloquet. Interment in Industrial cemetery, Industrial Township.

Anna Rhoda Bloom
Anna Rhoda Bloom, 84, lifelong resident of Nickerson, Minn., died Saturday, June 2, 2001, surrounded by family and friends, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake.
She was born April 19, 1917, in Moneta, Iowa, to William and Mayme (Baker) Schubert. Anna moved with her family to Hollindale, then later to Kerrick, where she grew up and attended school. Anna married Rudolph Bloom in Carlton on Feb. 25, 1935. She farmed with her husband and worked seasonally at General Andrew's Nursery.

She was a member of Oak Lake Lutheran Church in Kerrick Township. Anna loved gardening and sewing quilts.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudolph; sons Ralph, Ray and Marvin; granddaughters Becky and Dorothy; sisters Lillian, Irene, Mildred, Nelda and Hazel; and a brother, Lawrence.

She is survived by her sons, Walter (Lynette) of Nickerson, Richard (Norma) of Cloquet, Harry (Marilyn) of Nickerson, Loren (Jan) of Nickerson and Lyle (Diane) of Kerrick; daughters Anna (Glen) Johnson of Kerrick, Randy (Jim) Van Guilder of Holyoke, Eva (Bruce) Makela of Meadowlands, Linda (Rick) Hovila of Cloquet and Karen (Jeff) Degerstrom of Hinckley; brothers John (Sharon) Schubert of Little Falls, Harry (Carol) Schubert of Cloquet, Bill (Barb) Schubert of Harsaw, Wis., Gordon (Shirley) Schubert of Esko and Jim (Dot) Schubert of Gilbert; 48 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Thursday in Oak Lake Lutheran Church, Kerrick Township, the Rev. Nathan Anderson officiating. Burial in Oak Lake Lutheran cemetery. Arrangements by Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

Clifford G. Hanson
Clifford G. Hanson, 88, of Aitkin and formerly of Battle Lake, Minn., died Friday, June 1, 2001, in the Riverwood Extended Care Center in Aitkin.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Trefoldighed Lutheran Church, near Battle Lake. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.

Rose M. Kosola
Rose M. Kosola, 89, of Aitkin died Saturday, June 2, 2001, in the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.
Visitation: 1 until the 3 p.m. service Wednesday in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home.

Edna Sacarias
Edna Sacarias, 88, of Deer River died Monday, June 4, 2001.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today in the Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River. Service at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bethany Lutheran Church, Deer River. Burial in Pine Ridge cemetery, Deer River Township.

Cory J. Renshaw
Cory J. Renshaw, 29, of Finley, N.D., died Thursday, May 31, 2001.
Cory was born Dec. 31, 1971, in Moorhead, Minn., the son of Dennis and Deloris (Sundeen) Renshaw. He spent his childhood in Moorhead and in 1990 graduated from Moorhead High School. Cory attended Moorhead State University from 1990-1993. From 1993-1995, he attended Hibbing Tech, where he earned his AAS in law enforcement. After graduation, Cory joined the Millbank Police Department in Millbank, S.D., where he worked until 1998.

He married Lisa Bailey on Sept. 5, 1998, in Proctor. He also worked for the Sargent County Sheriff's Department from 1998-1999 and Mille Lacs Tribal Police Department from 1999-2000. In 2000, Cory joined the Steel County Sheriff's Department, where he worked until his death.

Cory will be missed for his infectious laughter, magnetic charm and outgoing friendship.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Deloris of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; his wife, Lisa, and stepson, Trevor of Moose Lake; brothers Bruce (Val) Renshaw of Fargo, N.D., and Craig (Barb) Renshaw of Lakeville, Minn.; a sister, Sheri (John) Jones of Fargo; nephews Chris, Brett, Quinn and Andrew; a niece, Brooke; and his loving and loyal K-9 companion, Rico.
Service: 10 a.m. today in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Robert P. Denny
Robert P. Denny, 58, of Virginia died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his residence in Virginia.
He is survived by a sister, Phyllis (Philip) Sherek; brothers Raymond (Carole), Gary (Mary) and Eugene (Judy); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Noon until the 1 p.m. service Thursday in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home in Gilbert. Burial in Biwabik Township cemetery. Military honors accorded by the Aurora American Legion Post 241.

Lloyd Hietala
Lloyd Hietala died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the White Community Hospital in Aurora.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Friday at the Biwabik Township cemetery, Pastor Cynthia Gray officiating. A luncheon will follow the graveside service in the Biwabik Township Hall.

Carol Genieveve Batdorf
Carol Genieveve Batdorf, 93, of International Falls died Monday, June 4, 2001.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert and Roland Asleson; her sisters, Ruth "Patsy" Maxfield and Janet Solie; and several nieces and nephews.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith United Church. Burial in the VFW section of Forest Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Green-Larsen Mortuary, Inc., of International Falls.
