Herbert J. McCall
Herbert J. McCall, 81, of Biwabik died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, in Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born April 6, 1919, in Biwabik to Peter and Margaret (Dormer) McCall. He was a 1937 graduate of Biwabik High School and later attended Virginia Junior College for a year. In 1939, he began working for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway as a brakeman. He retired from there in 1979 as a conductor. On Dec. 2, 1950, he married
Elizabeth Mary Neilon. He was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Biwabik Masonic Lodge, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and was a Meals On Wheels volunteer.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Mary; and brothers Russell and Francis.
He is survived by a daughter, Robin (Fritz) McCall-Ehlers of Shakopee, Minn.; a brother, George McCall of Duluth; and grandchildren Benjamin and Courtney Ehlers.
Visitation: 1 until 2 p.m. memorial service Friday in Community United Church of Christ, Biwabik, the Rev. Susan Faunce-Zimmerman officiating. Burial in Lakeside cemetery, Biwabik. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora.
L. Richard "Dick" LaFave
L. Richard "Dick" LaFave passed away suddenly Thursday, Fe. 15, 2001, in his home in Edmonds, Wash.
He was born Nov. 26, 1929, to Louis and Pearl LaFave in Two Harbors. He graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1947, then attended St. John's University before entering the Navy during the Korean War. He married
Delores Borey in 1950.
Dick had worked in downtown Seattle for most of his career, where he was well-known in the advertising industry, having worked at Larry Smith & Company and Seattle Advertising. Later, as a building designer, he designed homes for a large part of the Puget Sound area. He had served with honor in the Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight.
He was a skilled woodcarver, woodworker and storyteller. In his retirement, he could finally find the time he had wished for to travel with his wife of 50 years and to create works of art in wood.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Caroline.
He will be missed by the many who loved him including his wife, Delores; his children, Linda (John) Clay, Michael (Linda) LaFave and Lisa (Dale) Freerks; grandchildren John (Sara) Clay, Ryan (Lisa) Clay, Nathan Clay, Matthew, Christopher and Jeffrey Freerks and Joshua LaFave; and great-grandchildren Stephanie and Garrett.
Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. today in St. Cecilia's parish, Stanwood, Wash. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Children's Hospital, Seattle.

Margaret E. Otto, 81, of Mountain Iron died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.

Virginia F. Norenberg
Virginia F. Norenberg, 76, of Hibbing, formerly of the Cass Lake area, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in Leisure Hills, Hibbing.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; sons Randall (Gloria), Daryl (Brenda) and Ricky (Valerie); three brothers; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marjorie H. Gunderson
Marjorie H. Gunderson, 80, of Side Lake, Minn., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, in United Hospital, St. Paul.
She was born Aug. 25, 1920, in Carson Lake, Minn., to Joseph and Evelyn (Tippett) Kitchen. She was a 1938 graduate of Hibbing High School and a 1939 graduate of Hibbing Junior College. She was married
to Andrew Karl Gunderson May 16, 1944. Marjorie had been a resident of Side Lake since 1952.
Marjorie was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing, Side Lake Hobby Club, Side Lake Senior Citizens, Women's International Bowling Congress, secretary of the Minnesota Heart Association for three years and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Hibbing, charter member and president for two years. She worked in the family business, "Kitchen's Kitchenette" popcorn wagon, Hibbing Daily Tribune circulation department from 1941 to 1947, was a legal secretary and a secretary for other area businesses and operated Kitchen's Kitchenette popcorn wagon for 10 years in Ironworld.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Andrew in August of 2000; and sisters Mildred McWhirter and Shirley Monacelli.
Marjorie is survived by daughters Carol (Ken) Tharaldson of Blaine, Minn., Cathie (Neil) DenBleyker of Mendota Heights, Minn., and Susan (Jerry) Forsberg of Chisholm; grandchildren Melissa (Tony) Miller, Jeffrey, Sandra and Thomas Tharaldson, Andrew, Janelle and Lynette DenBleyker, Trista (Jay) Pohlman and Eric Torgerson; great-grandsons Anthony and Randy Miller, and Max Pohlman; brothers Robert (Ann) Kitchen of Hibbing and John Kitchen of Las Vegas; a brother-in-law, John Gunderson of Side Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles M. Witte
Charles M. Witte, 85, of Cloquet died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Pharr, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; seven children; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Jacobson.

Laura B. Kleiner, 90, of Littlefork died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in Littlefork Medical Center.
She is survived by sons Ray and Billy Kleiner; daughters Jaunita Leftwich, Joann Boath, Delores Stratton, Ramona Simmons and Dorothy House.

Wilfred "Alvin" Christopherson
Wilfred "Alvin" Christopherson, 72, of International Falls died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in Falls Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Leona; a son, Gary (Cindy); a daughter, Sherry (Ron) Douglas; and three grandchildren.

Dorothy A. Rent
Dorothy A. Rent, 69, of Virginia died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard; sons Clayton and John; daughters Cynthia (Brian) Forsman and Sandra (Anthony) Addy; her mother, Abelona Carlson; three grandsons; three sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary J. Stahovic
Mary J. Stahovic, 76, of Silver Bay died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in Two Harbors after a courageous battle with cancer.
The former Mary Zinzarella was born Nov. 5, 1924, in Iron Belt, Wis. She was the daughter of the late William Zinzarella and Lena DaRonco Herrala. She attended Iron Belt Grade School and graduated from the Iron Belt High School in 1942. She married
Stanley Peter Stahovic July 19, 1946, in Ironwood. In 1947, Mary graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Ind. The couple lived in Ironwood from 1947 to 1955. During that time she worked as a nurse in Rundstrom Hospital. The couple moved to Silver Bay in 1955 and Mary worked as a nurse in the Reserve Mining Company Clinic in Silver Bay from 1957 to 1983. The couple belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Since her husband's death, Mary had been active in the Silver Bay Garden Club, North Shore Golden Age Club and was an avid bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1984; a sister, Geraldine Zinzarella Kaffine in 1992; and a sister, Irene in 1926, and a brother, Bernard in 1927, who both died in infancy.
Mary is survived by a brother, John (Cheryl) Herrala of Iron Belt; a brother-in-law, Donald (Judith Masse-Kaffine) Kaffine of Deerwood; nephews Kenneth and David Kaffine, and Michael and Steve Herrala; nieces Rosemary (Kaffine) Rustad and Melissa Herrala; four great-nephews; a great-niece; and a great many friends in Silver Bay.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors, (218) 834-2952. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Silver Bay, (218) 226-3100. Lunch will served following the service. Alice I. White
Alice I. White, 91, of Chisholm died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001.
She is survived by her children, Roger, Betty (Joseph) Mrkonjich, Joan (Ron) Ortenstone, Clarice (Lyle) Oeltjen, Debra (Jerry) Mullins, Steve (Julie) and Pat (Kathy); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great--grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother.

Jean Marie Lundquist
Jean Marie Lundquist, 68, of Cohasset died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in University Medical Center Mesabi, Hibbing.
She was born Jan. 5, 1933, to Hubert "Herb" and Ruth Mildred (Fuhre) Austin in St. Cloud, Minn. She attended kindergarten through third grade in a one-room school in St. Paul. From fourth grade through eighth, she attended the one-room school in Hasty, Minn. During her high school years, she attended Monticello High School in Monticello, Minn. On Dec. 28, 1951, she was married
to Junior R. Lundquist in Trinity Lutheran Church in Monticello. During their marriage, they lived in numerous places while Junior served in the Air Force. In 1972, they moved to Cohasset following Junior's retirement. Junior died in 1994.
An active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 29 years, Jean taught Release Time classes and was active in the Lutheran Church Women. Jean was active in Cohasset Card Clubs, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Grand Rapids Womens Bowling Association for over 29 years. She volunteered with Itasca Medical Center Auxiliary working in the snack bar and she worked as an election clerk for Bass Brook Township.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, James Austin in 1971; and a son-in-law, Melvin Nelson.
Jean is survived by daughters Mary (Donald) Farnsworth of Hibbing, Susan Nelson and Kathleen (Brian) Birt, both of Grand Rapids, and Karen (Russell) Thomas of Sandstone; sons Steven (and former daughter-in-law, Lori Norgard) of Pengilly and Robert (Betty) of Cohasset; sisters JoAnn (Donald) Bromenschenkel of St. Cloud and Linda (Charles) Blanchard of Seattle; a brother, Larry Austin of Grand Rapids; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
