William C. Olson
William C. Olson, 78, of Grand Rapids died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
Bill was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Cohasset to Charles and Eva (Frank) Olson. He grew up and attended school in Cohasset and attended Itasca Community College, where he played football and basketball. During World War II, Bill served with Marine Bombing Squadron VMB 611 as waist gunner on a B-25 bomber and was awarded the Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. Following military service Bill returned to Grand Rapids ad married
Jeanette Aultman. He worked as a steamfitter with Union Local 589 in Virginia and retired in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Disabled American Veterans. Bill loved the outdoors, especially golfing, fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert, Charles, LeRoy Sr., and Floyd; and sisters Margaret and Dorothy.
Bill is survived by his children, William C. Jr. (Karen) and Linda (Charles) Ward, both of Grand Rapids, Kim (Dayton) Jahn of Andover, Minn., Daniel "Hoss" (Gail) of Coleraine and Brad (Kim) of Remer, Minn.; grandchildren Billie Jean and Abbey Olson, Taylor Ward, Amber and Corey Jahn, Josa and Gabe Olson, Neil, DJ, Kendra and Angel Roberts and Jeremy Olson; and a brother, Don (Lois) of Grand Rapids.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Solid Rock Church of God, La Prairie, Minn. Burial with military honors in Wildwood cemetery, Cohasset. Arrangements by Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, (218) 326-4000.
Lewis Dodge Shipman
Lewis Dodge Shipman, 77, of Pengilly died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in his home.
He is survived by a daughter, Sherri Nason; sons Lee and Lewis Jr.; a special friend, Doreen Stratton; a brother, Donald; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. March 9 in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Coleraine.
Fern May (Jones) Olson
Fern May (Jones) Olson, 80, of Cloquet died peacefully Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 29, 1920, in Deer River to Arthur and Gertrude Peck. Fern graduated from Deer River High School and married
Woodrow Jones on July 18, 1939. She worked for the Carlton County Historical Society as archivist for 20 years. She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1274 and Our Savoir's Lutheran Church. Fern enjoyed reading, sewing, collecting "chimes," spending time with her family and watching her great-grandchildren grow.
Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; her parents; a grandson, Christopher Jones; a granddaughter, Melissa Weme; and a great-grandson, Jaycob Weme.
She is survived by her children, Woodrow Jr. "Woody" (Bonnie) of Mahtowa, Robert (Louis) of Cloquet, Karen (Charles) Ness of Duluth, Gregory (Cecilia) and Cindy (Ronald Sr.) Weme, both of Cloquet; a brother, Richard (Phyllis) Peck of Deer River; a sister, Eva Walsh of Cloquet; grandchildren Wesley (Lorie) Jones, JoDee Grundmeier, Tracy (Scott) Solheim, Holly Ness, Wylie Jones, Ronald Jr. (Carol) Weme, Shane Jones, Robert (Shelly) Weme and Lynn (Ethan) Prosen; and great-grandchildren Mitchel, Hayley, Bryan, Brady, Marissa, Seth, Shelby, Lindsey, Justin, Lucas and Anna.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today in Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet and 10 until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cloquet, the Rev. Dennis Morreim officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Spring interment in Olivet cemetery, Deer River.

Helen M. Amborn, 83, of Grand Rapids died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Itasca Nursing Home.
Helen is survived by her husband, Bob; her children, Kristin (Rod) Dimich of Grand Rapids, Reid (Pam) of Salem, Ore., Mark (Lori) of Elk River, Minn., and Michelle (Brad) Smith of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Carroll) Worlan of Iowa.

John C. Cazin
John C. Cazin, 80, of Aurora died suddenly Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in White Community Hospital, Aurora.
He is survived by brothers Frank, Joseph (Lorraine) and Carl (Peggy) Cazin; sisters Katherine Malley, Frances (Robert) Schroeder, Mary (Robert) Baumgartner, Phyllis (Roy) Johnson and Clara (Steve) Perpich; and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Aurora, at John's request. Burial in Forest Hill cemetery, Aurora.
Evelyn R. Kussatz
Evelyn R. Kussatz, 60, of Hibbing, formerly of Keewatin died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in University Medical Center-Mesabi, Hibbing.
She is survived by daughters Sue (Clarence) Hamilton and Debbie Johnson; a son, Raymond; a brother, Ed (Kathy) Lambert; six grandchildren; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Friday in Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing. Burial in Nashwauk cemetery.
Lee F. Carver
Lee F. Carver, 59, of Grand Rapids died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in Leroy, Minn.
Lee was born May 5, 1941, to Roy and Frances (Bridge) Carver in Michigan City, Ind. He attended schools in Cohasset and Grand Rapids, graduating from Grand Rapids High School. He served with the Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1961. He worked construction in the southern states until returning to Grand Rapids in 1966. Lee was united in marriage to Molly Jetland March 21, 1970, in First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids. The couple made their home in Grand Rapids. Lee worked in Industrial Lube for four years and then for Itasca County until 1994. He became the business agent for AFSCME, Minnesota Council 65 in Nashwauk and was currently the assistant director. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, life member of Moose Lodge and a life member of American Legion in Grand Rapids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and powerboats.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Molly April 2, 2000; and his father, Roy.
Lee is survived by a daughter, Kelly (Tim) Carlson, and a grandson, Casey, all of Anoka, Minn.; his fiancee, Jo Eastvold of Leroy, Minn.; his mother, Frances Pomroy of DeKalb, Ill.; and brothers James Bridge Sr. of Sycamore, Ill., and Richard Beck of Grand Rapids.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, the Rev. Michael Eckert officiating. Military honors provided by Grand Rapids Area Veterans. Rosita Polyner, 77, of Ely died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Ely-Bloomenson Hospital.
She was born in Ely April 3, 1923, to Joseph and Rose (Fallmaier) Terzini.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 2717 in Ely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Oscar" Polyner, in May of 1983.
Rosita is survived by her son, Jack W. (Becky) Tomanek of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandsons Brian and Michael; a brother, John Gradishar of Orlando, Fla.; and half-brothers Joe and Jeff Terzini, both of Phoenix.

Margaret L. Myszkowski
Margaret L. Myszkowski, 80, of Hibbing died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in a local nursing home.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters Mary L. (Craig) Conroy and Ann (Joseph) Drazenovich; a sister, Katherine (Joseph) Freeman; and grandchildren Aaron, Katie, Matthew and Brian.

Owen Douglas Mountain passed away at birth Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Mountain Sr., and great-grandmother, Josephine DeFoe.
Owen is survived by his mother, Maria DeFoe; his father, Warren Mountain Sr.; brothers Cory and Warren Jr.; a sister, Samantha; grandparents Rosemary Mountain and Bonnie St. John; great-grandfather Edward DeFoe; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and other relatives.
