Robert M. Pintar
Robert M. Pintar, 67, of Ely died Friday, March 2, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
He was born in Hibbing on Nov. 13, 1933, to Michael and Anne (Jaksha) Pintar. He was a heavy-duty equipment mechanic and worked for Ring Power in Florida, Reserve Mining Co. in Babbitt and LTV Mining Co. in Hoyt Lakes, retiring in 1998. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War and a member of the American Legion in Babbitt.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ileen E. (Olson) of Ely; daughters Lynne (Ted) Nielsen of Ely and Debbie (John) Foy of Eveleth; sons Kenneth and James (Sonja), both of Babbitt, and Larry (Debra) and Michael (Carolyn), both of Nashwauk; sisters Florence Rocchio and Katherine Gillian, both of Nashwauk and Lolly Magayne of Wisconsin and Betty Calaqurie of Nashwauk; 18 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. service Wednesday in Praise Fellowship Church, Ely. The Rev. George Wick officiating. Spring burial in Ely cemetery. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.
Norman R. Bourdage
Norman R. Bourdage, 81, of Two Harbors died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at home.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1919, in Hartford, Conn., to Rodolphe and Maude (Favre) Bourdage. He grew up and attended schools in Quincy, Mass., and married
Hattie E. Carlson there on Feb. 15, 1942. During World War II, he served in the Navy. After the war, he and Hattie returned to her hometown of Two Harbors. Norm worked for the City of Two Harbors for two years, then worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway as a carpenter in the bridge and building department from 1948 until his retirement in 1980.
Norman was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed golf, bowling and wood working, and he was especially dedicated to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie in 1998; his parents; and a sister, Doris Bourdage.
Norman is survived by sons Normand of Two Harbors, Raymond (Sharon) of Delmont, Pa., Armand (Diane) of Vancouver, Wash., and Rollie (Sharon) of Duluth; a daughter, Arlys (Richard Johnson) Bourdage of Tomahawk, Wis.; sisters Jeannette Duffy, Theresa Meaney and Rita (James) Walsh, all of Massachusetts; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 5 until the 7 p.m. Rosary service Tuesday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors. Mass of Christian burial 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.
John I. Mammen
John I. Mammen, 94, of Grand Rapids died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Leisure Hills Health and Rehab, Grand Rapids.
He was born Nov. 26, 1906, in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1924. He had lived in Iowa and several years in Proctor and Milwaukee, Wis., before moving to Cohasset and Grand Rapids. He had worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway, managed Hampton Gardens Apartments in Milwaukee and worked for Merchants Police Security in Milwaukee. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Grand Rapids.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1970; several brothers; and a sister.
He is survived by his children, Joseph (Barbara) of Cohasset, John "Jim" of Cedarburg, Wis., and Judith (Jan) Bruns of Greenfield, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Fenna (Harm) Evarwein in Germany.
Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine. Interment in Lincoln Memorial cemetery, Milwaukee.
Lorraine A. Lampi
Lorraine A. Lampi, 71, of Ely died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital.
She was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Altura, Minn., to Elmer and Frieda (Preshel) Solie. Lorraine was a 1948 graduate of Altura High School.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, Elmer; and a brother, Leslie Solie.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence "Clank" of Ely; her mother, Frieda Solie of Spring Grove, Minn.; a son, Larry (Nancy) Karsten of Ely; a daughter, Laurie (Orren) Young of Ely; beloved granddaughters Kristy (Christopher) Marks of Lindstrom, Minn., Linda (Eric) Ludwig and Jennifer (Andrew) Seliskar, both of Ely; great-grandchildren Brian, Alexis and Collen.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grace Lutheran Church, Ely. Pastor William Fossum officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home, Ely.
Fred G. Niemi
Fred G. Niemi, 51, of Eveleth died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Virginia Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; stepsons Ed (Michelle) and Ron (Gail) Putzel; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; a sister; and two brothers.

Edward L. Holmstrom
Edward L. Holmstrom, 67, of Forest Lake, Minn., died Saturday, March 3, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Albena; daughters Joan and Jean; a sister, Dorothy (Charles) Nelson of Kerrick, Minn.; a brother, Harold (Shirley) of Wayzata, Minn.; sisters-in-law Dora Holmstrom of Circle Pines, Minn., and Gen Auger of St. Paul; brothers-in-law Ted (Norma) and Raymond Stelmach, both of Scandia, Minn.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in Mattson Funeral Home, Forest Lake and 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Wednesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Forest Lake. Interment in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery, Willow River. Memorials preferred.
Ruth S. Larson
Ruth S. Larson, 98, of McGregor died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Riverwood Extended Care Center, Aitkin.
She was born July 25, 1903, near Palisade, Minn., to Joseph W. and Emma (Goff) Sarff. She was the last surviving child of the pioneer Sarff family. She attended country schools near Palisade and then attended school in Duluth, graduating from Morgan Park High School. She then attended Teacher Normal School in Duluth. She taught rural schools in Jacobson and Balsam Township. Ruth married
Herbert W. Larson June 21, 1928, in the Methodist Parsonage in Aitkin. They enjoyed 55 years of loving marriage before Herbert's death in 1982. Ruth had been employed by the Klondike Lodge and Sathers Store for many years. Her expertise in baking was rewarded in the early 1950's when she was a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake Off at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
Ruth was a member of the Round Lake Presbyterian Church and was active in the church's ladies groups, served on the Pioneer Villa Residents Committee, had been active with Savana State Park and was quite a local historian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert in 1982; a daughter, Judy; four brothers; four sisters; and a son-in-law, Norman Kuehne.
Ruth is survived by daughters Betty Kuehne of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Marilyn (Paul) Sather; a son, Richard (Donna) of McGregor; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Ron Smith of Centerville, Minn.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. today with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service in McGregor Funeral Home, McGregor. Visitation continues noon until the 1 p.m. service Tuesday in Round Lake Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert Munneke officiating. Burial in Round Lake cemetery.
Theresa A. Constans
Theresa A. Constans, 88, of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Two Harbors, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Bloomington Care Center.
She was born June 18, 1912, to Andrew and Josephine (Antoni) Trotet in Duluth. She grew up in Duluth, graduated from Central High School, and married
Neil Constans on August 18, 1942. She was a homemaker through the years, and made her home in Two Harbors from 1951 until moving to Bloomington in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alfred Trotet; and her husband, Neil, in 1977.
Theresa is survived by daughters Marlene (Gary) Lundquist of Richfield, Minn., Suzanne Galster of Bloomington and Jane (Brian) Miller of Telluride, Colo.; grandchildren Lisa Vierling, Michael Lundquist, Joshua and Stephanie Galster; and great-grandchildren Nicholas Lundquist, Alexandra, Brianna and Cristin Vierling, and Taylor Galster.
Visitation: noon until the 1 p.m. service Wednesday in Cavallin Funeral Home, Two Harbors. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Two Harbors.
Wilfred McGregor
Wilfred McGregor, 88, of International Falls died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Carr) McGregor; sons Edward, Richard "Mingo", Freddie (Laurie) and Donald McGregor; a daughter, Mary Lynn Boyd; sisters Margaret Johnson, Ellen Farman; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth McGregor.

Raymond Joseph Bertie
Raymond Joseph Bertie, 76, of Babbitt passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in North Fort Myers, Fla.
He was born April 20, 1924, to Joseph and Burnett Bertie in the Norway Hospital in Norway, Mich.
He attended Vulcan High School in Vulcan, Mich. He married
Elaine Juntilla Feb. 5, 1948. He was an Army World War II veteran. He attended Michigan College of Mining & Technology in Houghton, Mich., receiving bachelor of science degrees in mining and metallurgical engineering. He worked for Oglebay Norton Co. as a mining engineer at the Montreal Mine in Montreal, Wis. He moved to Babbitt in 1951 to work for Reserve Mining Co. on the development and construction of the Babbitt Mine & Crusher. He also worked as chief mining engineer, assistant mine superintendent, mine superintendent and as assistant mine manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Bertie; and stepfather, Charles Robbins.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Babbitt and North Fort Myers; sisters Burnett (David) Hojnacki of Duluth, Eleen (Paul) Gottwald of Springstead, Wis.; sons Dennis (Sharon) Bertie of Silver Bay, Gerald (Mary) Bertie of Eagan, Minn., Joseph (Jerri) Bertie of Apple Valley, Minn.; daughters Eleen of Carrollton, Texas, Karen Bertie (Joe Radke) of Superior and Ann Marie Fiega of Apple Valley; eight grandchildren; five step grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five step great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass Tuesday in St. Pius 10th Catholic Church, Babbitt. Burial in the spring in Norway Township cemetery, Norway, Mich. Arrangements by Kerntz Funeral Home in Ely. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
