Joseph Devorak
Joseph "Joe" Franklin Devorak, 82, of Fergus Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 17, 1922, in Madison, Minn., to Joseph Franklin and Hildred (Thompson) Devorak. When Joe was two years old his father died, and the family moved to a farm near Richville in the Dead Lake Area. He attended School District No. 256 until 1936, when Joe and his brother returned to Madison, where they farmed together. He graduated from Madison High School in 1940. After schooling, he moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he took an aircraft mechanics course and then began working at Douglas Aircraft Company in Santa Monica, Calif.
In July of 1942, he enlisted in the United States Air Force qualifying for pilot training. He attended Cadet Classification Training at San Antonio and Uvalde, Texas, also basic flight school in Waco, Texas. In November of 1944, he was sent to Lesina, Italy with the 325th fighter group flying missions over Munich, Vienna, and Berlin, Germany, during World War II. He was honorably discharged Dec. 9, 1945, and then enlisted in the Air Force Reserves for 20 years, earning the rank of Captain.
When he returned home in 1945, he attended the University of Minnesota, and in 1946 began working at West Central Airway of Fergus Falls. He assisted with building the large hangar and also the restaurant which open July 4, 1947. In 1948, he established a flight school in Wheaton, Minn., and continued to work at West Central Airway for 29 years until selling the business in 1975. From 1948 to 1988 he was a crop sprayer. He logged 29, 000 hours of flying time during his career of flying.
On Feb. 4, 1950, he married
Evelyn P. Opatz at the church parsonage in Battle Lake. After their marriage, the couple resided in Fergus Falls.
He was a member of the Federated Church of Fergus Falls. He also served as president of the Minnesota Aviation Trade Association and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 30, V.F.W. Post No. 612 and the Elks Club of Fergus Falls. Joe enjoyed flying, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Debra Jo (Mike) Nelson of Dilworth; three sons: Timothy Mark (Margaret) of Pine River, Thomas Allen (Mariko) of Fargo and Joseph Franklin Jr. (Angel) of Fergus Falls; eight grandchildren: Mike (Sarah) Liljestrand Jr., Nicole Grayce Nelson, William Joseph, Mary Ann, Joseph Franklin IV, Adam James, Emma Jo and Hayden Hobbs; great-grandson, Zachariah; two sisters, Hildre McBride of Baton Rouge and Jeanette (Herbert) Smith of Dallas; a half-brother and sister, Donald (Betty) Sjolie of Mesa, Ariz., and Joy Ann (Lyle) Busch of Dent. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Reynold; and a sister, Blanche
Landsberger.
Memorials are preferred to Lakeland Hospice of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: Friday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. with a 5 p.m. public prayer service at funeral home
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Federated Church, Fergus Falls

Hannah Borowski
Hannah Rochele Borowski, 14 months, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Children's Hospital of St. Paul.
She was born May 15, 2003, in Fargo, to Heather Nicole Borowski and Jonathan Matthew Rogness. She was baptized May 27, 2003, at MeritCare Hospital by Rev. Matthew Rogness.
She is survived by her parents, Heather Borowski and Jon Rogness; grandparents, Dr. Wesley and Sheila Borowski and Rev. Matthew and Judy Rogness; aunts and uncles, Emily, Matthew and Timothy Borowski and Andrea and Jeremy Knick; cousins, Jaxon and Jonah Knick; great-grandparents, Roger and Kay Borowski, Richard and Agnes Rogness, Morris and Lorraine Vold and Dennis and Patricia Wodele; and great-great grandparents, Lila Manor, Bernice Strand and Catherine Wodele.
She was preceded in death by great-great grandparents, Erwin and Erma Borowski, Lenard and Emma Huss, Edward and Kristina Lomeland, Lyman Manor, Oscar and Lillian Olson, Henry and Luella Rogness, Harold Strand, Hans and Bertha Vold and Ralph Wodele.
Visitation: Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Arlington Strinden
Arlington Grefsrud Strinden, 86, of Fergus Falls, formerly of rural Pelican Rapids, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Pioneer Retirement Community of Fergus Falls.
He was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Pelican Rapids, to P. Conrad and Emma (Grefsrud) Strinden. He attended rural School District #78 in Trondhjem Township and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1937. As a child, he was active in 4-H and also Luther League, which was at his church.
Growing up he farmed with his father and later purchased his uncle's adjacent farm. He continued to farm and lived in Trondhjem Township until health problems caused him to move to Pelican Rapids in 1996. In 1998 he entered Pioneer Retirement Community of Fergus Falls.
He was a lifelong member of South Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He served in various offices within the church council, including president.
He is survived by his sister, Gertrude Strinden of Roseville; sister-in-law, Arlyss Strinden Bjornson of Fargo; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, C. Edmund Strinden.
Visitation: Sunday from 1 to 3 p. m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Esther Trigg
Esther Trigg, 89, of Pelican Rapids died Thursday, July 29, 2004, at MeritCare of Fargo.
Esther Marie Neuman was born July 17, 1915, in Geneseo, Ill., to George R. and Mary (Lewis) Neuman. She was baptized and confirmed at Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Dell Rapids, S.D. On June 2, 1934, she married
Howard Trigg in Flandreau, S.D. After their marriage, Howard and Esther lived and farmed in South Dakota. In 1955 they moved to Pelican Rapids. They farmed on the north side of Prairie Lake until 1975. In addition to being a homemaker, Esther was a test-baker for Pillsbury.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Church circle, and Homemakers. She enjoyed reading and baking and also enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Frankie) Trigg of Denver, Colo., and Terry (Dee) Trigg of Vergas; 2 daughters, Joanne Trigg of Moorhead, and Janice Trigg of Spokane, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters: Edna Mae Johanknecht of Long Beach, Calif., Marie Auseth of Fergus Falls, Beverly Wakeman and Juanita (Robert) Nesje, both of Flandreau, S.D., and Dorothy Jean (Art) Schueske of Fertile, Minn.; 2 brothers, Robert Redwing of Flandreau, and Don (Delphine) Neuman of Battle Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; grandson, Gregory France; granddaughter, Skye Marie Trigg; 2 brothers, George and Harold; and sister, Garna Clark.
Visitation: Sunday, August 1, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and to resume one hour prior to the service at the Church

Idella Bredeson
Idella Bredeson, 93, of Fergus Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Broen Memorial Home of Fergus Falls.
She was born May 26, 1911, in Polk County, Fosston, Minn., to Ida Anderson. She graduated from high school in Battle Lake. She was a registered nurse, attending nursing schools at St. Lukes Hospital, Fergus Falls, and University of Minnesota with clinical training based at Minneapolis General Hospital. She worked at Dr. George Jacobs office in Fergus Falls for several years.
On Nov. 25, 1950, she married
Chester Bredeson. They lived in Fergus Falls and at Jewett Lake. She worked at Fergus Falls State Hospital for many years and retired in 1974.
She was past president of the 7th District Nurses Association and secretary of West Otter Tail County Home Extension. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Chi Professional Women's Sorority; ARC, Lioness Club, AARP, Grace United Methodist Church, Lake Region Hospital Auxiliary and Jewett Lake Homemakers.
After retirement, she was a hospital volunteer working as surgical receptionist and a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile. She traveled extensively throughout the United States.
She is survived by her husband, Chester of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law.
Visitation: Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and at the church one hour prior to the service

Florence Moen
Florence Janette Moen, 87, of College Station, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, two days short of her 88th birthday, at Scott-White Hospital of Temple, Texas. She was formerly of Seattle, Wash., where she resided for the previous 11 months at the Sheridan Care Center on Rock Prairie Road in College Station
She was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Rothsay, Wilkin County, Minn., to Tollef E. and Emma J. (Holte) Moen. She grew up and attended Rothsay Public School and graduated from Moorhead High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College for two years and began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in the area. She taught in Minnesota for four years, Clarkston, Wash., for one year and spent the rest of her teaching career in Seattle, for a total career of 40 years.
She was confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Rothsay and was a member of Crown Lutheran Church in Seattle. When she moved to College Station in 1996, she joined the First United Methodist Church in Bryan.
Her love was the music of all of the choirs and was their best cheerleader. Since 1962, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Society that unites women educators and has traveled extensively. Her children were all of her nieces and nephews and all of the school children she taught. She was loved by all.
She is survived by six nieces; two nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Lucille Fowler of Whitehall, Pa.; Kathy Braman of Washington, DC; Sybil Hibbard of Minneapolis; Susan Moen of Detroit, Mich.; Jerrie Kolle of Richville, Minn.; Norma Henry of College Station; Richard C. Bergerud of West Bend, Wis.; and Ricky Moen of Topeka, Kan.
She was preceded in death by seven sisters and five brothers.
