Dora Cordes
Dora Cordes, 83, of Rochester, formerly of Henning, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at her daughter's home in Rochester.
Dora Irene Kyt was born April 9, 1921, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Charles and Maria (Honkanen) Kyt. At four years old, her mother died, and she was brought to Minnesota where she was raised by an aunt and family.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Henning High School in 1939. She was married
on June 26, 1939, at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ottertail to Gerhard Cordes. They had three daughters.
She joined the Leaf Lakes Homemakers Club in 1953 and remained a lifelong member. She taught Sunday School at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for a number of years and was a member of St. Paul's Women's Fellowship. She and her husband were licensed foster parents for several years. They retired in 1979 to the site which was their original farm.
She will be remembered by her family as an avid reader, a lover of nature, a woman of quiet, steadfast faith and a generous and non-complaining spirit. She was given the gift of listening, encouraging and lifting others in prayer.
She is survived by her daughters: Fay (Larry) Litman, Plymouth, Minn., Karen (Ronald) Hermann, Ottertail, and Joyce (Terry) Hagen, of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Mara (Harris) and Ryan Litman; Andrea (Rogers) and Heather Hermann; and Jody (Thornton), Briana (Satzke) and Kelly Hagen; five great grandchildren: Zachary, Amanda, Annabelle, Cecelia, and Preston; and four sisters: Vieona Harma, Libby, Mont., Vera Selby, Seattle, Wash., Myla Hertz, New Leipzig, N.D., and Erna Will, Portland, Ore..
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard, in 1992; her parents; an infant brother, Robert; and a sister, Helen Reiger.

Art Jacobson
Art Jacobson, 98, of Evansville died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at Douglas County Hospital of Alexandria.
He was born Sept. 14, 1905 on the family farm in Pelican Lake Township, Grant County, MN to Nels and Amy (Synstegard) Jacobson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Evansville. He attended school through the eighth grade at District 38 and later attended Park Region Business College of Fergus Falls. In his teens, he began his over 50 year career of building roads, first with draft horses and mules, working ten hour shifts. When machines became available, the hours became much longer as they didn't need to stop and rest the horses.
In 1936 he married
Harriet Hoff of Ashby. They purchased a farm near Pelican Lake in 1937. He worked as a job superintendent for several summers at various road job sites in Northwestern Minnesota and North Dakota, including work on the Garrison Dam. In 1945 he began working with brothers, Orville and Leonard, doing heavy equipment work closer to home with their own machinery building roads as well as an outdoor theater, baseball fields and cleaning wreckage off railroad tracks or moving snow following severe storms.
His wife, Harriet, died in 1962 and in1963 he married
Harriet Alstead Johnson of Melby. He was active throughout his retirement with his yard, garden, flowers and friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet of Crestview Manor in Evansville; son, Harlan (Judy) Jacobson of Ashby; daughters, Ramona (Roger) Johnson of Evansville and Bonita (Keith) Englund of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Gilford (Gladys) of Alexandria and Clarence of Brandon and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Harriet; sisters, Nettie and Jeannette and brothers, Leonard and Orville.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Aaram Steinkopf
Aaram G. Steinkopf, 85, Deer Creek, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at his home.
He was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Deer Creek, to Otto and Anna (Scheer) Steinkopf. He grew up in the area and worked for area turkey farms. He worked primarily at the turkey farm at Underwood. In his later years he worked with the Green Thumb Program as a custodian at the Wadena High School. He was also a maintenance man at Finn Creek near New York Mills. He moved into the Deer Creek Manor in the mid 1990's.
He is survived by a niece, Rebecca Philipsek of Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; nephews: Randy Steinkopf of Verndale, Minn., David Steinkopf of Champlin, Minn., Bruce Steinkopf of Wadena, Peter Steinkopf of Grand Canyon, Ariz., Anthony Steinkopf of Genesee, Ill., Matthe Steinkopf of Green Bay, Wis., Andrew Steinkopf of Australia, Timothy Steinkopf of San Jose, Calif., and Thomas Steinkopf of Rice, Minn.; and sisters-in-law, Hilda Van Cleeve, Wadena, and Ruth Steinkopf of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Frederick and Paul.

Corinne Pederson
Corinne Pederson, 83, of Fergus Falls died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Broen Memorial Home.
She was born Dec.14, 1920, to Louis Arthur and Cora Bell (Hall) Vore, in Fergus Falls, where she grew up and received her schooling.
On March 26, 1944, she married
LeRoy Pederson at First English Lutheran Church of Fergus Falls. The couple made their home on the farm in rural Fergus Falls. She retired from Woolworth's Department Store in September 1984. She also worked for several years at the Northern Aire Bowling Alley and Fir Avenue Grocery. She taught Sunday School for many years and was fortunate to have all of her children and some of her grandchildren as students.
She enjoyed cross-stitching, embroidery, sewing, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and playing solitaire. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters: Carol (Russ) Fiskum of Vining, Linda (Bill) Buckingham and Cathleen "Cay" (Art) Stringer both of Fergus Falls; three sons: Larry (Kathy) Pederson of Clear Lake, Wis., Curtis (Marlene) Pederson and Lester Pederson, both of Fergus Falls; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Jeanne Vickerman of Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy on April 7, 2004; a grandson, Geoffrey Rasmusson; a great-grandson, Ashton Finamor and a sister, Margaret Davenport.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Ella Bakken
Ella A. Bakken, 99, Maplewood, Minn., loving mother, grandmothers and great-grandmother, died Aug. 2, 2004.
She was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Dane Prairie, Minn., to Anders Bollingmo and Emma Larson. She is survived by four children: Robert (Diane) Bakken, Duane Bakken, Richard (Gloria) Bakken, Barbara (Donald) Munchow; eight children; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Helen Albjerg
Helen Albjerg, 89, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Fisher, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Broen Memorial Home of Fergus Falls.
She was born July 8, 1915, in Fisher, Minn., to Edven and Gyro Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Fisher High School in 1933. In 1940, she moved to Fergus Falls and worked at Byers Caf/ in Underwood.
On Sept. 10, 1944, she married
R. Alex Albjerg. The couple lived on the home farm by Underwood. Alex died Nov. 22, 1967. After his death, she began working at the Regional Treatment Center, Fergus Falls, then at school District No. 544 in the foster grandparent program, where she worked for 28 years.
She had a great faith in God; loved people and kids, especially her kids at the school, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts in general, birds and her flowers. She will leave a big empty space in her family and friends hearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Allen) Larson of Fergus Falls; two grandchildren, Randy (Lori) Larson of Fergus Falls, and Melissa Larson of Daytona Beach, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Brooke; one sister, Esther Storms of Seattle, Washington; and a special sister-in-law, Gertie Nelson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alex; sisters, Annabelle Horn, and Tillie Teal; and brothers: Nels, Ole, Joe and Clarence Nelson.
Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. public prayer service at the funeral home and to resume at the church one hour prior to the service

Jerome Elrite
Jerome (Jerry) William Elrite, 87, formerly of Herman, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital of Fergus Falls.
He was born July 16, 1917, at Clinton, Minn., to George and Anna (Cook) Elrite. He grew up and attended school in this area. As a young man, he loved playing baseball and going to dances. He married
Elizabeth (Betty) Hippman Aug. 24, 1940.
He worked in the CCC camps in the states of Washington and Idaho before serving in the United States Army during World War II. In later years, he and Betty took a trip back to Washington and Idaho to see the trees he had planted. After the war, he farmed in the Herman-Norcross area. In 1977, he and Betty built a new home in Herman where they lived until their health no longer permitted. They were residents of the Barrett Care Center until Jerome was transferred to the Pelican Lake Health Care Center in Ashby.
Together Jerome and Betty have three children: Kenneth (Joyce), William (Bill) (Tanya) and Katherine (Kate); three granddaughters: Denise (John) Paul, Gina (Jeff) Lenz and Tammie (Jeff) Hanson; and seven great-grandchildren: Christopher and Ashleigh Paul, Haileigh and Lindsey Lenz, and Ricky, Samantha and Trevor Hanson.
He is survived by his sister Dorothy Kaess, brothers Lawrence (Larry) (Lucille) and Richard (Dick) (Rosie); sisters-in-law Audrey Elrite, Alice Dilly, and Elsie Schumann, and brother-in-law Harold (Scottie) (Milly) Schumann.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Margaret Ness, Helen Smith, Marie Bratten and Lucille (Connie) Pederson; brothers, Raymond and George; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Paul; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Thursday morning at the church one hour before services
