Vigness, Oscar "Ozzie"
Oscar "Ozzie" Vigness, 81, Elba, MN, died Saturday, February 12, 2000 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Ozzie was born September 24, 1918 in Fillmore County to Arthur and Olga (Swenson) Vigness. He married Rita Kingsley on September 13, 1943 in St. Charles, MN.
They made their home in northeast Minneapolis where he worked as a tool and die model maker for Univac. In 1981 they retired and moved to Elba where Ozzie enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and the great-outdoors. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba.
Survivors include his wife Rita; six children, Barbara Vigness of Austin, TX, Steven Vigness of Elba, Ken Vigness and Mary Jo Vigness, both of Minneapolis, MN, David Vigness of Venice, FL, and Bob Vigness of Minneapolis; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four sisters, Amanda Sullivan, St. Paul, MN, Doris Byboth, Rochester, MN, Jan Wieler of Virginia Beach, VA, and Em Simmons of Orlando, FL.
He was preceded in death by three children, Karen, Michael and Jeff, three brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 19 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Rev. Caesar Dralega officiating.
Hoff Funeral Homes-St. Charles Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
Daywitt, Francis H. "Shorty"
Francis H. Daywitt, age 67, of Dover, MN, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at St. Elizabeth's Healthcare Center, Wabasha, MN.
He was born July 13, 1932 to Lawrence and Theresa (Walsh) Daywitt in Stockton, MN. He married Donna Bluhm on August 2, 1954 in Rochester.
Shorty worked for Olmsted Community Hospital and Olmsted County Courthouse for over 30 years. He was also a Scout Master in Dover and St. Charles, an Olmsted County Sheriff's Explorers Post Advisor and on the Dover Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, traveling and birdwatching.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; a son, Paul (Sonia) of Dover; three daughters, Sue Daywitt of Elba, Karen (Neil) Applen of Rochester, and Barbara (Michael) Johnson of Lake City, MN; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Rita) Daywitt of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 19 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles, MN, with Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester, MN.

Douglas, Freddie
Frederick Marshall Douglas, 62, Fountain City, WI, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at his home following a brief battle with cancer.
Fred was born January 2, 1938, to James and Mildred (Ehmcke) Douglas. He married Beverly Ledden on September 22, 1962 at St. Mary's Church in Fountain City.
Fred was employed as a salesman for H. Choate & Co. for 16 years. Many will remember him from the days he owned and operated Freddie's Fishing Float with his wife from 1980 until retirement in 1996.
They spent winter months in Florida where Fred continued his love for fishing and the outdoors. There he quickly learned ocean fishing and enjoyed biking, boating and the sun.
Fred touched the lives of many people with his continuous humor and sharp wit. His easy-going manner and laid-back style was reflective of the happiness that encompassed his life. He was a true friend and confidant to many people. The two great joys in his life were his grandsons, Marshall and Mason, who adored their "Grandpa D" as much as he adored them.
He was a member of FOE No. 1243, Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post No. 9, and was a part member of the Elks Club, Redmen's Club and the the Athletic Club.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; one daughter, Brenda (Jim) Fischer and two grandsons, Marshall and Mason, all of Prior Lake, MN; his father, James Douglas of Winona; mother and stepfather, Mildred and William Schwanke of Winona; one brother, Gerald (Karen) Lappier of Rochester, MN; and two step-sisters, Sandra (Keith) Burlingame of Carmeron, WI, and Nancy (Richard) Strelow, Houston, MN
Funeral services were Saturday, February 19 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Rev. John Sauer officiating.
Hacker, Sister Hilary
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Sister Hilary Hacker on Monday, February 14, 2000 at Assisi Heights with Rev. Jack Krough presiding.
Sister Hilary, 79, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, who served as Administrator of Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth, OH, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at Assisi Heights.
Born March 5, 1920 in New Ulm, MN, Phyllis Hacker entered the Franciscan Congregation from Holy Trinity Parish, New Ulm, and made her profession of vows on August 15, 1947. She began her ministry as an instructor at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
After further education at Marquette University in Milwaukee, St. Louis University and an internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, Sister Hilary became the Administrator of Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth, OH from 1962-1976, when she was given the title of Associate Administrator. After the consolidation of hospitals in Portsmouth in 1989, Sister Hilary was named Assistant Vice-President of the Southern Ohio Medical Center. Due to illness, Sister Hilary retired to Assisi heights in 1993 and celebrated her Golden jubilee in 1997.
Survivors include her Franciscan Community; one brother, Joseph Hacker of St. Paul, MN; and two sisters, Sister Hilary Hacker, SCC and Sister Marie Hacker, SCC, both of Chicago, IL.
Cleveland, Elaine (Bergler)
Elaine Cleveland, 73, New Hampton, IA, died Thursday, February 17, 2000 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 1, 1926, to George and Helen (Fakler) Bergler in Winona. She attended schools in Winona and was a confirmed member of St. Martin's Church.
She later moved to New Hampton, where she married Felton Cleveland on September 1, 1946.
She was employed many years as a secretary for the Clem Smith blacktop firm.
Elaine enjoyed her family, making crafts and crocheting gifts for her friends and family.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 27 at United Church of Christ in New Hampton. Interment will be in New Hampton Cemetery.
Surviving are one son, Michael (Sue) Magnolia of Texas; one daughter, Kim (Dan) Ovel of New Hampton; three grandchildren, Kaylee and Jon Ovel and Alisha Cleveland; a sister, Betty (Kenneth) Ross, Stockton, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Elaine was a very loving mother, grandmother and sister, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Arns, Norma G.
Norma G. Arns, age 86, of Winona, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
Norma was born on February 4, 1916, in Jordan, MN. Her parents were Dr. Henry and Clara Greenwald.
Norma graduated from the University of Minnesota as a registered nurse and married Edward J. Valentine. They had two daughters, Pat (Don) Tropple and JoAnn (Stan) Hawkins.
For many years Norma was the Administrator of Braewood Convalescent Home in South Pasadena, CA; where she resided with her second husband, Lyle M. Arns. She had two step-children, Janet (Leroy) Humble and Shirley Seales.
She loved to dance, play the piano and travel. She traveled all over the world but Greece was her favorite place to be, returning often. She could drive a boat or fly an airplane and was never afraid to follow her dreams! She was a loving mother and her commanding presence will be tremendously missed.
Norma leaves behind her children and step-children; six grandchildren: Lisa, Kristy, Donnie, Jeff, Dino and Dion all residing in California and 10 great grandchildren: Krista, James, Jason, Cameron, Brandon, Nigel, David, Monique, Krystal and Jade.
Memorial services were Thursday, April 18, 2002 at the chapel at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona with Mary Jo Keiper, leading.
Funeral arrangements were completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
Ledebuhr, Elmer A.
Elmer A. Ledebuhr, 81, of 1635 Service Drive, formerly of 1022 E. 6th St., Winona, died on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Sauer Memorial Home.
Elmer was born September 20, 1920, 1920 in Winona County to Gust and Lillian (Warnken) Ledebuhr.
He was employed at Bay State Milling Company for 40 years as a head miller, retiring in 1980.
He is a member of the Bay State Millers Association as well as St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as an usher.
Elmer is survived by 3 brothers: Raymond (Kathryn), Lewiston, MN, Ervin (Delores), Rochester, MN, Clarence (Joyce), Port Orange, FL, 2 sisters: Ruth (Sylvester) Lilla, Winona, Doris (John) Cierzan, Winona, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Ed, Art, Harold and 1 sister: Laura
Elmer was kind and always gave a helping hand when it was needed. He will be sadly missed by all.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 22, 2002 at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverend Timothy Dost officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and again on Monday from 12 Noon until time of the service at the church. There will be a prayer service on Sunday at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Steve Cierzan, Brian Cierzan, Rolland Ledebuhr, Dick Ledebuhr, Don Prow and Clarence Mueller, Jr.
